Mac OS server 10.4 working on intel based ?

I just bought (a few weeks ago) the MAC OS server 10.4 M9768Z/A, at the moment this is installed on a mac mini G4. I would like to make sure it is going to work on a intel based MAC. it sounds like X server 10.4.7 does but I think the CD I have received are 10.4.6.
Could someone confirm that I am not going to have any problem to install my xserver package to a intel based machine once my testing are completed on my minimac ?
Thanks

Have you actually asked Apple what to do about it, rather than just complaining about what you don't know is a problem?
Since every system comes with up-and-running support I would think your first course of action would be to contact their support department for advice. I'll take a guess that they'll mail out the latest version for a nominal shipping charge.

  • Mac OSX Server VPN Not Working

Heres how my setup is: I have an ATT DHCP Server/Router That assigns my public ip.
I have an Apple AirPort Extreme in Bridge Mode Which hosts the main wifi connection.
I have my Mac OSX Server connected to the AirPort Extreme
On my ATT Router DHCP Server's Firewall I have my computer set to DMZ Plus mode which forwards all ports on the network to my mac.
I am trying to connect to the vpn network via my MacBook Pro and iPhone5 and I cannot. However I can connect to the online wiki page on my server by going to server.djswirkmke.com if you would like to see it. My host name is server.local on the network but on the internet it is server.djswirkmke.com I also have a mail domain setup as mail.djswirkmke.com. My problem is I am not able to connect to the vpn on the client computers can you please help?

In a moment of random frustration, I tried listing the DNS server in VPN settings three times, and it somehow fixed the problem. Even though it is the same IP all three times, it works when it is listed three times but not when it is listed just once.
In other words, in VPN > Settings > Client Information > DNS Servers, I have:
    192.168.100.64
    192.168.100.64
    192.168.100.64
Hope this helps someone having the same problem.

  • SIMS 2 not working on Intel-based Mac Mini

SIMS 2 will not work on new Mac Mini. I contacted Aspyr who said that the integrated graphics card prevents it from displaying graphics and that this was a hardware problem.
Is there any way to make SIMS 2 work on the Mac mini
-update or add on graphics card
    -use in PC mode
    - or ?
Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi Hillview,
If you bought 'The Sims 2' for Mac then it will only run on either a PowerPC Mac or an Intel Mac running OS X, not under Windows with BootCamp unfortunately. This means that you can't attempt to run it in "PC" mode. The Apple Store states that the minimum 'Graphics' requirements to run The Sims 2 are either an ATI 9200 and higher, or a GeForce FX5200 and higher. Unfortunately they don't quite take into account that they are shipping macs with Intels integrated graphics chipset now, and no Intel specific requirements are mentioned in the system requirements. It does however state that a minimum of 32MB Graphics Power is required to run the game, and the GMA950 that is in your mac mini has upto 64MB shared, meaning that technically it should run fine.
It must simply be a problem in the way that the Intel graphics chip processes visuals that are specific to the game its self and unfortunately you can't upgrade the Graphics chip inside your mac mini - it's soldered in! A call to the Apple Care Help Line may be your best bet, because the chances of you being able to get it running, aren't really looking all too good unfortunately =(
Hope that I may have been of help

  • Mac pro server spotlight not working

OSX 10.8.4 -  spotlight has stopped working for my end users. Not sure why. Nothing catastrophic has happened other than my having to re-initiate file sharing (turning the service back on) after a restart.
I've done disk util and repair with no issues there. I re-indexed by opening sys prefs / spotlight / privacy and dragged in several folders they access, then romoved them to initiate the re-indexing. This did not work either.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • LaCie d2 Fire Wire CD-RW Drive...will it work on Intel based iMac?

Had this installed on old G4. Will it work on iMac?

    Addendum to previous question:
Went to LaCie web site to attempt to get answer to this, but site wouldn't even recognize the Serial #...maybe it is outdated.
Think I installed it in 2002.

  • Cannot Install Mac OS Server X

Hi, I am trying to install MAC OS Server Tiger on an IMAC intel core Duo but I am getting a message saying the MAC OS Server cannot be installed on this version of MAC. Is there a work around to this or I would have to by a Mac Mini instead?
    Thanks!

Sounds like you may have a PPC server install disc. You cannot install PPC Server onto an Intel chipped machine.
    Somewhat of a side note.
We had to reinstall on of our machines, so I booted a PPC G4 into Target disk mode, inserted the OS X PPC disk into my Mac Pro (Intel) and got the same message...even when I wanted to install it on the target machine, not the Mac Pro.

  • Mail, iCal Server and iChat server will not work over VPN

I have an Airport Extreme Base Station at the office running the network. Behind it sits a Mac Mini Snow Leopard server running 10.6.3. The ports necessary for Mail, iCal Server and iChat work fine through that external connection. I can also connect with VPN from my 10.6.3 clients.
HOWEVER, when I connect with the VPN clients, I am suddenly unable to access the Mail, iCal Server, Wiki server and iChat server. All connections time out. I can ping the server and I can do other things that do NOT work on the public Airport like ssh or VNC. ssh and VNC are closed at the airport extreme.
So it's pretty odd. When I'm connected via the VPN, all ports that are forwarded to the Snow Leopard server time out over the VPN.
I've tried various and sundry configurations with the VPN client. This includes trying to send all traffic over the VPN, moving it up in the service order, etc. etc. Nothing fixes it. DNS resolution is working fine, however when I do a wireshark capture of ppp0 traffic, I notice that SSL and TLSv1 handshakes appear to occur on the public IP address instead of the private network IP address... and they're all resets.
Has anyone gotten this to work successfully? Like I said, all ports that are NOT forwarded through the Airport work fine over the VPN, but will not work when connected to the VPN. It's really bizarre.

New data: any ports that are normally forwarded on the Airport Extreme to the Mac Mini server will not work when connected to the VPN.
For instance, if I have imaps/993 forwarded from the Airport Extreme to the Mac Mini, it works fine over the Internet. If I connect to the VPN, I can connect to all OTHER services on the Mac Mini, but Mail, for instance, will not work.

  • External hard-drive only for Intel-based macs?

I have an iMac G5 powerpc (without the camera). Today I bought a Western Digital: My Passport- Essential 250GB external portable hard-drive. I will be using this to back-up my iMac's hard-drive. Before I opened the packaging, I decided to see if Apple.com sold this product in their online store. They do, but one of the 'one-star' reviews posted on this product stated that "it will only work with Intel-based macs." I can't seem to find any more information about whether or not this statement is correct. I was hoping somebody could help me out and let me know the answer. If it doesn't work with the powerpc imacs, do you know of a brand or model that does? I plan on leaving it in the packaging until I know for sure just in case I need to return it to the store. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

You can order them online from [macsales.com] and have them sent to your college. You can look in Staples or go online and see if they carry LaCie - the OWC ones are only sold on macsales, as far as I know.

  • 2010 Mac mini server remote install OS X failure

I tested re-installing OS X remotely to my 2010 Mac mini server. It worked the first time. I got to the installation process, and abandoned it without actually doing anything.
But when I tried again, it failed, and I have not been able to get it to work ever since. I went to a local Apple shop and tested at its Genius bar. People there cannot figure out the problem. They exchanged my unit for a new one.
I took the new unit home, tried, and it failed again. Then I called Apple Care. They cannot pin-point the problem, but suspected that, since I failed with two units, the problem may be with the computer that has the DVD. I am not sure about his. Here I post my story for help. The details:
    1. The OS X Server installation DVD (which came with the mini) was put in a 13" 2009 Macbook Pro. There I ran the Remote Install OS X application. Selected the Installation DVD.
    2. Then I started the Mac mini server, holding the down Opt key. The Installation DVD appeared from my local network. However when I selected the DVD and clicked the arrow sign under it, things went wrong. A circle with a line segment appeared briefly (indicating a problem, I think). Then the mini simply went to boot from its own hard drive where the original OS X was.
Help and suggestions are very much appreciated.
    Additional information:
Remote Disc works fine. From my Mac mini, after booting into the original OS, I can see and open DVDs in the Macbook Pro.

Target disk mode method works fine. I can boot my mac mini from its installation DVD placed in my macbook pro, connected to the mini through firewire. So I don't think there is any hardware problem.
I played with a few other things. First I used another DVD, this time the one that came with my 2009 macbook pro, a non-server version OS X. When I tried to remote install it to my mini, the mini can still see the DVD but it hung after I chose to boot from it. It just showed a big circle with a line segment. It did not revert to boot the OS on its own hard drive.
Next I again ran remote install on macbook, but booted the mini to its own hard drive. From there
I changed its start up disk to Network Startup, and rebooted. The mini can find nothing on the local network.

  • Is firefox 5.0 compatible with non-intel based mac systems?

I downloaded 5.o previously this year & it wouldn't work because after downloading I discovered that it would only work with Intel based Mac systems. Has this changed? I don't want to go thru the download process again if it won't work.
    Thanks.

No. as of Firefox 4.0 and newer from Mozilla you need both OSX 10.5+ and Intel.
Either you can still use Firefox 3.6.18as you are using (3.6.19 will be coming in some 5 weeks) http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Or use a third party version built for the old PPC.

  • Adobe Digital Edition - Can´t be installed on Intel based Mac 1.7.2

    Hello!
I´ve bought a ebook and have to use Adobe Digital Edition. After the download of Adobe Digital Edition 1.7.2 x86 the program can´t be installed.
Directly after starting the installation the program says "The programm will only work with Intel based Macintoshees".
The problem is, I am definetily using a 15" Macbook Pro 2010 with Intel and this problem occurs.
I am also sure, I have downloaded the correct version.
I could not even download the ADE on the adobe page because my system doesn´t fulfil the requirements which could not be.
Is there an official problem with the current version or anybody who could send me an older version?
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Henning

10.6.8 is Snow Leopard, not Lion.
    10.5 = Leopard
    10.6 = Snow Leopard
    10.7 = Lion
    10.8 = Mountain Lion

  • Getting AHT to work on Mac mini server

I have a intel core 2 duo Mac mini server (macmini4,1), and I'm having sporadic freezing/locking issues. I am trying to run the apple hardware test but it doesn't work, holding down the 'd' key does nothing. If I try single-user mode startup it works fine so there doesn't seem to be an issue with the keyboard. Since this is the server I also don't have an optical drive to go to to boot from the install disc. Why doesn't this work? Is there an alternative way to get this to run that doesn't involve the install disc?

Actually, this problem is only partially solved. I still get "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock..." when I type 'mysql'. I can access mysql by typing 'sudo mysql', but still get the socket error when connecting via php, so I think I still need to get to the point where I can type mysql without sudo.
Also, I went ahead and installed MySQL 5 with the tar package.

  • Does Server Monitor software work with Mac Pros?

Last time we were purchasing a new server we noticed that Server Monitor doesn't work with Power Macs. Is this still the case with the latest Intel-based Mac Pros?

    Hi again Christiaan-
Just to clarify, are you saying that OSX Server is running on the Power Mac and you are using another computer to connect?
If so, which version of each software and which Power Mac?
I am curious as I've had no problem with said configuration.
    Luck-

  • Mountain Lion Mac Mini Server Ethernet Port Not Working

I have a Mac Mini Server and once I upgraded to Mountain Lion Server the Ethernet port is unresponsive. It worked before upgrading. Is there something with Mountain Lion Server that is causing the Ethernet port not to work properly?

Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
