Mac OS software for powerbook G4

I bought a retail boxed Mac OS X (Panther) for my desktop. I wonder if I can install it directly onto my powerbook G4 15" (867Mhz).
Or I found a version of OS X for powerbook G4 12", would it work on my 15"?
Thank you

Hi j,
A retail version of OSX will install on any Mac meeting the hardware requirements. The license allows you to legally have it installed on one machine.
Discs which ship with a specific Mac are intended to be machine-specific, so it would not be a good idea to use a set from a 12" PB on your 15", plus, unless the 12" has been "decommissioned" or a retail set has been purchased for it, you'd be breaking the software agreement.

I am looking for a Mac based software program that is easy to use to design kitchens and baths.
    Do you know of any?

"Free" is worth a look, I would guess.

  • What is best mac and software for home video editing and creation

I am about to buy a mac to capture 30 years of photos, film, and video (multiple formats).
I want to then edit a series of videos to make movies to capture our family history.  I know I will have a lot of conversions to make and will use a local video transfer place to do that.
I am not worried about price.
My goal is to make a series 30 of DVD's each about 1.5 hours in duration.
I have a lot of organizing, editing, publishing and storing to do.  I know it will take me a long time.
I am about to purchase the mac and other things needed.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Dave

I do LOTS what you are about to do.
I think I can confidently say I have tried all software and the vast majority of video converters. Here is how I do it.
    Computer:   Mac Pro
Movie editor:  iMovie 06, (more expensive than iMovie 11 but well worth the price) I have iMovie 11, but I would not use it for making DVDs.
DVD authoring:  iDVD 09 / 11  ( iDVD has not changed in a couple of years, just make sure you're using iDVD 08 or later).
You will also need a A/D coverter. (Like the Grassvalley ADVC300)
I've played around with countless other conversion systems, ranging in price from $79 to $399. Short verison, this is the ONLY unit to own. No dropped frames at all, even with questionable quality tapes, no jitter, great color, excellent sound quality. Zero setup with iMovie 06 and iDVD 09/11.
This is a prosumer deck. The time code function is alone worth the price if you have old analog footage. Absolutely NO "Out Of Sync" audio.
ADVC300 is for anyone who wants to do editing and is concerned about quality of color and speed, for the novice it is an incredible gizmo that will restore VHS tapes to a state close to the original fixing midtones, highlights and shadows on the fly. Not only can you simply convert analog to digital you can actually manipulate the signal going in (if you want to).
A bit pricey but it WORKS.
    http://www.grassvalley.com/products/advc300
The program that comes with the ADVC300 has some nice filters that can improve video and audio of the source material.
I also own an Elgato EyeTV,  it's in a drawer somewhere. The ADVC300 gives much better results ESPECIALLY WITH TAPES.
iMovie 06 and iDVD 09 is 100% "lossless" combination and my DVD's look like they came from Hollywood!

  • Mac-compliant software for Dell monitor?

I am in the process of buying a Dell P1913S monitor for my Mac mini because its screen dimensions and high resolution suit my requirements. I have established, from posts in the Apple Support Communities and from online reviews, that, though the software that comes on a disk with the monitor is Windows-specific, the monitor will work on a Mac as soon as it is plugged in, without installing any software. I also understand, however, that the on-screen adjustment facilities will not work on a Mac.
This may not matter, as there are also manual controls, but I wonder if anyone knows of any source of Mac software (driver?) for the P1913S monitor?
Dell are more than tight-lipped about Macs. Their users' forum just directs one to the Apple forum. As the Peripherals forum here seems to be for older devices only, I am posting my question in this more general Mountain Lion forum. I should be very grateful for advice.

MBP = MacBook Pro. I can get all 4:3 ratios, 16:9 and 16:10. I can not get 5:4 ratios and the Dell is a 5:4 monitor.(ie: I can't get 1280 x 1024) SXGA is the name of that resolution and it is rare (see chart) I am simply suggesting that you try this out before you buy one.
If you wish to use the 'screen rotation' feature you wil not be able to as it is in software, which s ony for Windows.

  • Is Logic Pro the Best Audio Recording Software for Mac?

Couple questions. I do a lot of audio production and work currently. I use a gateway with Cubase, and its not bad, but I feel like I need something mroe high end.
I'm looking at the 17 inch Imac. Does anyone record using this computer? How's it sound? Is there any way to put in a new soundcard or something if i don't like the current one?
Secondly, is logic pro the most advanced and best audio recording software for the mac? Are there others as well?
I know about Pro Tools, but it seems like there isn't anything high end enough that is TOO high end.
Does the Pro version have superior mixing capabilties. I am primarily going to be micing a guitar amp and having a mixer run into a firewire port, and also using a preamp for my guitar direct into the computers USB.
Lastly, how are the mixing features on Logic Pro vs. Logic Express? I do a lot of post production mixing as well, and use VST plugins. Speaking of that, will it accomodate using a drum program like BFD through VST or Midi like Cubase will?
    Thanks for your time guys.

Yes, you do indeed need sth more high end.

It's not an iMac, but a faithful PowerBook G4 that I am using. Apples Core Audio is awesome. Your sound, however, will depend on your interface.
Secondly, is logic pro the most advanced and best
audio recording software for the mac? Are there
    others as well?
That's why we are here, and that's why you ended up in this forum as well
To me personally, Logic sounds warmer and bigger than any ProTools system I've ever heard. From what yopu described as the work you need to do, there is no comparable application. Logic also offers you many more features above and beyond what you currently need to do.
I know about Pro Tools, but it seems like there isn't
anything high end enough that is TOO high end.
Everybody is using PT, and you should maybe get a Light Edition version of it. However, as stated above, Logic offers by far more possibilities.

capabilties. I am primarily going to be micing a
guitar amp and having a mixer run into a firewire

For your purpose, Logic does have superior mixing capabilities. In my humble opinion, only the popularity of PT made it become the choice of studios and engineers, but things are turning...
Lastly, how are the mixing features on Logic Pro vs.
Logic Express? I do a lot of post production mixing
as well, and use VST plugins. Speaking of that, will
it accomodate using a drum program like BFD through

If you do post production mixing, forget about Logic Express altogether and go for Logic Pro. LP will accomodate tons of plug-ins, and it comes with a bunch of great one's as well!
The format for the plug-ins is called A(udio) U(nit) and works flawlessly. Many VST plug-ins are also available in AU format and the development of those is moving fast forward.
In other words, yes, you will be able to use BFD in Logic by means of the AU format.
    Thanks for your time guys.
    You're welcome.

  • Mac software for Cisco Aironet 340

I have a Cisco Aironet 340 PCMCIA card that I want to use with an old PowerBook. But I can't find the download for the Mac software for this card. This page tells me to go to "http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/aironet-utils-mac." but it just redirects me to the normal software download page. Where can I download the Mac sofrware for this card?

It was never supported on a mac and this is end of life and end of support... your not going to find one especially on Cisco's site.  Maybe search online and someone might have it on a file share.
    Thanks,

  • Is downloadable software available online somewhere for Powerbook G4

I would like to install some basic word processing software on my Powerbook G4.  I know it's an obsolete machine but what options do I have to find downloadable software for this machine?  I got the machine clean without any software other than the basics.

Try Googling for it, but as most software versions that can run on a PPC Mac would have come on CDs or DVDs, try looking for older versions on eBay or Amazon.
Good place to look for software:
    http://www.macupdate.com/
And for free alternatives to some popular software packages:

(If you see an ad there for something called MacKeeper, ignore it and on no account install it - it is malware.)

  • Audio editing software for a G4 PowerBook 1.5

Hi I've been given a G4 PowerBook to see if I'm tempted to move away from windows PC's to apple.
I'm looking for software that will work on the PowerBook that will let me edit all audio files and multitrack edit too, the current software I use on pc is adobe audition, any pointers?

Deciding whether or not to switch to the Mac by test-driving a six-year-old Mac with a four-generation-old processor is like deciding whether to buy a new car based on test-driving a six-year-old model. You won't get any useful information that way except an absolute certainty that you don't want to buy a six-year-old Mac. But it's more likely that, knowing nothing of how different your experience would be with a current Mac, you'll simply jump to the unwarranted conclusion that Macs aren't for you, and that would be a real shame. If you're interested enough to consider a Mac, give it a fair shake: try one that will give you an accurate idea of what you can expect from today's models.

  • Mac 10.9.5 software for laserJet CM2320 FXi MFP

    Hi,
Help!!  is this printer ( laserJet CM2320 FXi MFP )  supported for the Mac 10.9.5 OS? If so, where can I get the drivers and software for this printer, as I can only find the firmware update on the HP Website for this version of the Mac OS.
I have downloaded the software of MAC 10.7, but the Mac won't install this version of the software!
I have been able to print on the printer, but it prints 1/4 of the text onto a A4 sheet. It seems to think it's set to A3 orA2 when it should be printing to A4.
Also, I can’t use the scanner as it needs the appropriate software.
Will this printer not work with Mac 10.9.5?
    Any feedback would be appreciated
    Thanks

  • Mac Pro stuck on gray screen after installing software for a new keyboard

I am having a huge issue with my very important work computer! For a few weeks, my Mac has been freezing on the gray screen during start up. Since I had two external hard drives plugged in, I would unplug one of them and the Mac would always restart correctly once one was unplugged. Well today I was installing software for a new keyboard and the mac prompted me to restart. Once I restarted, the gray screen came up again and no matter what I did it would not start up correctly again. I tried unplugging everything except the keyboard and monitor and nothing works. I tried ejecting the crash-causing CD with the keyboard using all of the commands I found on this forum board and nothing worked. I saw forums about manually ejecting the CD by pushing a pin-hole but I cannot find that pinhole anywhere! Then again, the CD might not even be the problem but since the computer gave me the gray screen of death right after using the CD I am thinking that it is the problem. I use this computer for editing a TV show and creating websites so there is a ton of files on it and I need to get it up and running again ASAP. Any suggestions would be appreciated and I am sure by now you can tell that I am not a Mac expert so please dumb it down for me. Thank you!!

I would start by breaking your thoughts and sentences out from one long paragraph.
    Start at the basics.
    Always have backups.
One at least that is a spare boot system you can use.
Clone your system. SuperDuper does a great job for only $29
Boot from another hard drive or last OS X DVD
Repair your drive with Apple Disk Utility along with 3rd party disk maintenance and repair
Hold Option key until the boot manager, then hold mouse to open optical drive.
You can hold mouse on startup and it will eject also.
Hold and continue to hold Shift key during startup to repair the boot drive in minimal fashion.
What device and driver? hint: never use CD, just go online as the CD is usually out of date anyway.
Fill in Mac OS X version and more about hardware would help in posts and in your profile signature.
