Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Netflix "Watch Now" option.

Just wondering if anyone knows a way to configure the Mac or of a specific download that would allow my MacBook Pro to play the streaming video that is available on NetFlix. Netflix's website makes some reference to DRM problems as to why Mac users can't use the service but I don't understand the explanation. Any solutions or explanations would be very helpful. Thanks!
Currently you cannot stream Netflix videos directly to a Mac. Rumor has it they are working on it. I believe you'll find some information at the Netflix site. DRM is a form or copyright protection (Digital Rights Management.)

hi, we are using mac mini's for our developement purpose. connecting the same through using Real VNC. Mac mini's are late 2009 and 2010. Now we have upgraded them to 10.8.5. after upgrading having display issues after launching the simulators, we are unable to view the icons we need to move the simulator (into different places) to view the icons.
Also we are having Mac book pro's (Late 2009 & 2010) after upgrading them to 10.8.5. Unable to launch the mac, getting only white screen with apple icon.
Let me know is there any specific Hardware (Graphic Cards) we need to use for the same.
Please provide me the early solutions.

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions. -

Read the documentation at the links. They won't hurt your data.
Basically smc reset is shutdown, pull your plug for 15 seconds, plug it back in, wait 5 seconds, and reboot. Harmless to you. Resets the smc.
Pram reset is similar but you need to push commnd-option-P-R after the boot chime. Read what does.

Using VMWare Fusion and Vista for NetFlix Watch Now
Hi, I have installed Fusion and Vista in order to use NetFlix's Watch Now feature on my MBA. The installation was easy and Vista seems to be working fine. However, I can't get the Watch Now movie going. The film will start (after NetFlix determines my internet speed, etc.) and alternate between play and pause. Has anyone used this combination with success? Would a downgrade to XP work better? Or I should just use Boot Camp? Thanks.
I've used WinXP with Fusion on a MacMini and it was fine (but faster in BootCamp). I'm currently running Vista Business on a MacBook Pro in Parallels and while it isn't slow, it certainly is slower than in BootCamp. I expect Fusion would run Vista a bit faster - Fusion does tend to be a bit faster than Parallels but Parallels seems to get along better than Fusion with one of the applications I'm using.
There are advantages to BootCamp and BC isn't incompatible with virtualization. I suggest that you go ahead and install Vista in BootCamp. If you haven't already bought Fusion, download the demo and see how it runs using the BootCamp installation and compare that to BootCamp itself. Then decide. -

Buy a suitably-sized external HD (allow for future increase of your internal data), preferably firewire but a USB drive will work. (Although it used to be that some USBs won't boot a Mac, but my 5-year-old SATA ex-internal in a USB case works OK, as do LaCie drives).
Download Carbon Copy Cloner (search for it). Its free (donations invited). I have used it for years, 100% reliable, and SuperDuper is also said to be good.
CCC is very easy to use. It asks you for the source disc (your Internal system HD) and the target disc (your new external). Press a button and it takes about an hour the first time, less later. Meanwhile, you can continue to use the computer.
The result is a bootable copy of everything (and that means every single thing) of your internal HD. For example, you can specify that copy as the start-up disk, or more commonly, hold the option key down when restarting the computer and when asked, choose the copy. Restarting on the clone can take me back to exactly where I was at 7 am that day. A huge life-saver. The loss of an internal HD without a backup (and it happened twice to me but I had a clone) would cause huge disruption.
I have CCC set to make a bootable copy at 7 am every day. If my HD failed in some way, I could get bace to exactly where I was at 7 am that morning.
I also have Time Machine set up, but it has failed three times and I would only use it to recover a recent file or two.
Another thought: When upgrading the computer's OS, I make another clone of the old system, just in case the new OS installation fails (or better, I install the new OS when booted on a very recent clone, so I can ditch the clone if the installation fails and return to the old OS on the internal). Also, I have a bootable copy of Snow Leopard for the remaining old software that will not run on Lion.

I recently read that netflix' watch instantly option can work on macs. I used a link for the silverlight "opt in" option. The website said "congragulations the new media player is enabled."
When I try to watch a movie though, it says my OS is not compatible. However, according to their Mac Requirements, I am.
I have an intel Macbook Pro, OSX 10.5.5, Firefox 3, and 2 gigs of ram.
These are the requirements on the netflix site:
* An Intel-based Mac with OS 10.4.8 or later
* Safari 3 or higher; or Firefox 2 or higher
* 1 GB RAM
Anyone have any suggestions?My only other suggestion would be to try using Safari to watch something on Netflix. If neither browser works, I would suggest downloading the plugin directly from here:

If you click on the "Mac Runtime" link on the right, it will give you the disk image to install the plugin, so hopefully it will bypass the browser when installing. There might just be some issue with the browser thinking the plugin is there when it isn't, or the plugin may be corrupt.
Other than that I am at a loss. I remember having this issue a while back with Firefox and ABC's web player, and I don't recall figuring it out, other than going back to Safari. -
I rented a move in iTunes " rent and watch now not rent now watch later however the movie was not accessible to watch . It sort defeats the purpose of renting a movie etiquette watch right away .
I had the same issue with my apple tv 3rd generation. I rented Sinister and selected the "rent and watch now" option. Half way through the movie I accidentally pressed the menu button. When I looked for the rented movie on my apple tv I could not find it. Not even above the movie pannel where "purchased" and "top movies" comes up on the main menu. the apple tv suggests to go to settings>downloads but I don't have that option. I did go to settings> itunes store> check rentals but that didnt work either. It took too long to even check. Thank you because this SOLUTION worked great.
SOLUTION: How to reset apple tv 3 3rd generation to view rented movies:on the apple tv remote: press and hold "menu" to go to the main menu. Select SETTINGS> GENERAL >RESET >RESET ALL SETTINGS. After the apple tv resets, input all your information again and your rented movies should be visible when you cruise above the "movies" section. THANK YOU!!
Apple needs to solve this issue because honestly it took me 3 hours and a half to watch a movie that only lasted 2 BECAUSE I wast trying to solve the issue, reseting and all. blahh. -
Upgraded to Yosemite. Videos on Amazon Prime and Netflix crash frequently.
First time participant. Recently bought a Macbook Pro (early 2011) with an i5 processor. Laptop is in EXCELLENT condition. Upgraded memory from 4 gigs RAM to 8 gigs. The RAM is Mac certified, but not purchased from Apple. Running Yosemite 10.10.2. This laptop belonged to my son so I know the history of it. He had no problems watching videos when he was running previous OS X, up through Mavericks. It seems that once he upgraded to Yosemite, all **** has broken loose.
I am having a terrible trying to watch videos on Amazon Prime and Netflix. Sometimes it just locks up, and the rainbow wheel spins. Sometimes everything crashes and gives a kernel panic message. Other times it shuts the video down, and says that the plugin (Silverlight and Flash, both) have failed. The most worrisome is the kernel panic shutdown. I have tried everything, including:
Perused just about every discussion of same of similar problems on Google/Bing.
Re-setting the cable modem and wifi router.
Deleted Flash and Silverlight and reloaded fresh copies.
Adjusted settings in Netflix to the lowest quality and tried both Silverlight and Flash on Amazon Prime.
Tried three browsers, Safari, Chrome, and Firefox.
Adjusted the settings in all three browsers to try and optimize watching videos.
Started up in safe mode to see if the problems clear.
Pulled the RAM upgrades and put in the original 4 gig sticks.
Signed out from the owner account and signed in as Guest.
Called Apple customer care and spent over two hours on the phone, only for the supervisor - yup, supervisor! - to tell me he was stumped and would have to kick it up to the technical folks. Still haven't heard back from them.
After all these attempts to fix the problems, and then trying each "fix" individually, it is still virtually impossible to watch videos on Amazon Prime and Netflix without some type of crash part way through the video. None of these things happen on YouTube, by the way, or any other video sites I have tried. The only thing I haven't tried is starting all over again with a fresh install of Yosemite and all of its components. Really don't want to do that because I am afraid of losing the Microsoft Office 2010 Pro I have loaded. Paid a lot of money for a one-time use license.
Please, does anyone have a suggestion I haven't tried? I'm to the point of sacrificing chickens and invoking the spirit of Steven Jobs! Look forward to hearing some ideas.Direct from Microsoft is the only safe place to get Silverlight http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/

Strange problem with mac mini hdmi, denon avr 3310 and itunes

I just bought the new mac mini with HDMI. It is connected via HDMI to my receiver Denon AVR 3310. The receiver shows that it has "multi channel in" on the display.
I made all the configurations so that i can watch dvd an the mac mini. When i play a movie with Dolby Digital the receiver does show that on the display and playback is possible without any problems. I hear sound on all my 5.1 speakers.
The big problem is with iTunes. When I want to watch rented series, for example Dr. House, only 2 speakers of my 5.1 are used. And when I change to surround in iTunes I can only hear static noise.
What is the problem? Did I make a wrong configuration or is something wrong with iTunes?

MAC MINI 2011 2.5 i5 8gb ram
Using a quality audioquest hdmi I have connected my Mac mini to my Denon 1712 Reciever. I have connected this hdmi cable into hdmi port entitled game 2. I have connect my reciever to my tv with a monster 1000 hdx thx certified hdmi cable. It has a transmission sped of 17 gb or so...meaning it can handle transmitting 3d...if only I had a 3d tv.
Okay so that's the gear. Now onto the changes in audio midi. Open audio midi and Simply change it to 48000 hz and to 2 channel 16 bit integer. That's all I did and now it works. Before I had it set to 8 channel 24 bit and when I pulled up my surround sound options I could pretty much only get multi channel stereo. Now I can get several Dolby choices.
The voices are coming out of the center speaker and all the action is coming out of the other speakers....so in other words 5.1 surround sound has been achieved on my Mac mini 2011 which has Lion on it.
I have tested this with iTunes and Netflix. Both are in 5.1 and sound great. In iTunes I have tested both music and digital copies of movies. Both worked flawlessly.
Rejoice Mac mini owners 5.1 surround is now possible over your Mac mini 2011 edition with just an hdmi cable to your reciever. You can throw away that toslink cable becuase now you don't need it!
I hope this works for you. Remember not all hdmi cables and the same holds true for your reciever. If it does not work consider getting either audioquest or monster....everything else is junk. -
What am I doing wrong? I have hi-speed cable internet and N wireless WiFi.
AppleTV and Netflix movies and TV work great - not buffering at all???There's an issue currently that a lot of us are experiencing in that we all get the error message "iTunes is currently unavailable; please try later"

I've posted a topic in regards to this after having a long conversation with Apple support this morning and will be receiving a call from their tech team tomorrow to run through it further
As it stands iTunes cannot be accessed via ATV's and nor can it be streamed via AirPlay from iTunes to the ATV
However I can access all films/iCloud content via my Mac Mini with no issues! -
Airport Express and Netflix streaming movies
Problem: When a Netflix movie streams to my BluRay wireless-capable DVR, I get maybe five minutes of the movie, then an error message saying "can't connect to Netflix".
The TV set is in a room about 70 feet from my original Airport Express, which I use in a home office as a wireless network between my two computers (Mac mini running 10.4.11 and a Windows Vista laptop). Through AE the two computers share an internet connection and a printer.
To get Netflix movies, on Apple's advice I bought a second AE to extend the signal range and placed it about halfway between my home office setup and the room with the TV. The distance, as I said, is about 70 feet across four rooms.
Neither Netflix tech support or LG tech support has provided a solution despite several calls to each.
Any ideas?I just bought a newest Airport Extreme, because the AirPort Express would drop to my newest MacBook Pro using WiFi and viewing a NetFlix instant/streaming movie. My Airport Express would only cover a small part of my house. At work, we have an older Airport Extreme and it covers a huge area! So, I was thinking I'll buy a newest Airport Extreme and get great coverage throughout my house and NetFlix will stream perfectly!
Unfortunately, I get pretty much the same results with the AirPort Extreme as my old AirPort Express!?!?!? I don't get good coverage throughout my house and NetFlix drops!?!?!? THe error is something like (from NetFlix), "dropped internet, testing and will reset to lower quality for uninterrupted viewing".
So, the Airport Extreme didn't help at all? I see a strong signal, but still get dropped Netflix.
Funny thing is, If I use an old Xbox wireless adapter and connect to my Motorola modem/WiFi router, the movies stream fine and I get a good signal throughout the house!?
I would much rather be able to use the built in Airport card on my newest MacBook Pro and the Airport Extreme....
Any ideas?
What settings should I change from the default Airport Extreme settings?

I have recently purchased MacBook Pro with Mac OSX 10.7.3 Lion and I would like to install Final Cut Pro 6 Studio2, and it came up with this error: 'you can't open application FinalCutProStudio.mpkg because PowerPc apps are no longer supported......Is there a way to run FCP6 on lion withoput this error? Any help would be appreciated.....

I read ICloud has a program you can download to be able to use it for messages on a Windows machine but it still requires that you already established an account on an Apple device with Operating System 5 on higher and I prefer an option without installing anything to have easy access when going to a cyber or internet cafe. The ME site refers you to ICloud but that fails to help me.
My Mac Mini is basically new with a one year warranty with free support ( ??? ) and maybe I can call a technical support center but international calls could be costly from here so this is my last resort.
A Apple store is nowhere to be found in this country so I hope to gain as much advice as possible from here.I appreciate your reply Ralph but I got no way of using an APPLE device with operating system 5 or better because the internet cafe and hotels here use Windows computers as mentioned the first time. The Icloud instructions for a Microsoft machine still require you to initialize the account on a Macintosh prior to being able to use it on other electronics.

I've had MS Office:mac 2011 on my imac for around 18 months now. Outlook has just disappeared and when I find the file and open it it tells me that there is a problem and I may need to re-install it. I've just done this using the installation disc which, then said the installation had been successful.
Outlook is still not working. Can anyone please advise me on what to do next.Remove MS Office 2011 completely (here are instructions) and reinstall it.
It's not a simple or fast process but it is important to follow all of the steps in order to get all the files that Office scatters around. This will not affect your data files, only MS Office and its preferences. -
I have seral email accounts on my Mac. One does not work on the Mac but works on my iPad and iPhone. The account information was added on the Mac. I keeps rejecting my password.
You don't input the information in manually for iCloud mail. It is automatically set up for you when you sign into iCloud via System Preferences and choose the Mail checkbox. Sign out of iCloud or deselect Mail in iCloud preferences. Open Mail's preferences and choose accounts tab. If iCloud account still exists in the list, delete it. Sign back into iCloud or check the box for mail. The account will be auto created for you.

ITunes match storage full error on I devices
