Mac OS X 10.4.11 Text issue seems to be unresolved for many...

My web-pages and menus (outside of offline) continue to display diacritics (non-english letters with accents)! They're added into words, grammatical punctuation is substituted for these letters. Sometimes I suffer from text overlapping it's frames, divs, text-areas etc. I don't know what the issue is. Websites suggest to find duplicates and resolve them in my font book, but that doesn't PERMANENTLY solve the issue, nor does it resolve the text coming out of it's frames. I would REALLY like someone to give me REAL advice; Preferably, but not limited to someone who's experienced this issue and has resolved the problem permanently.

Download Font Nuke. Close all other applications you may have running.
Run Font Nuke and click on the "Nuke Font Caches" button at the upper left. The panel will fill with other choices. At the lower right, first click "Update Caches List". It will search your hard drive for font cache files and list them. The purpose being simply so you can see what is about to be removed. Click the "Nuke Font Caches" button at the bottom right. Your Mac will restart. Don't attempt to stop the restart. You should always restart immediately after removing any cache files.
Most of the time, this is all that's needed to correct font issues in OS X. If not you may be missing fonts the web site needs to display properly. Read my article, Font Management in Mac OS X Tiger and Panther. It explains the minimum fonts you should have active on your Mac at all times. For web pages in particular, the following fonts get used a lot.

Arial Black
Comic Sans MS
Tahoma
Trebuchet MS
Verdana
Webdings

Incorrect text size in Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Mac?

I am posting this for an older gentleman who is a photographer and uses Photoshop on his Mac. His iMac runs OSX 10.9.3 and he uses version 12.0.4 X64 of Photoshop CS5. I noticed when I was to his place the other day giving him tutoring sessions that his Photoshop has issue with displaying text sizes incorrectly...
For example, we took one of his scanned image files of a slide and changed it's resolution lower so he could send it to a journalist for an article. He wanted to add his name, a date, and a copyright symbol down in the corner of the image....fine. However, the text is showing up as what LOOKS like 12-point, but we have it set to 0.3!!!! It's VERY frustrating! I read many people had issues with this and fixed it by updating, but his Adobe Updater program says there are no newer versions of Photoshop available for him to update to...? Can anybody tell me how to fix this issue for him or point me in the right direction? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!!!

Having type set to the default Points, can be problematic IMO, and I always set it to Milimeters in Preferences > Units & Rulers > Type. That way I know that if my image size is, say 10 inches high, and I choose a Type size of 25, it will be one tenth the height of the image regardless of resolution (ppi).

D11 Unicode Text Issues

There appear to be several text issues in D11 on Mac OSX
10.4.11 and 10.5.2.
First problem being that setting the style of text to bold or
italic doesn't show any change. This occurs in both Shockwave and
D11 projectors.
Second using Chines Unicode font Song the text in fields
sometimes disappears. Its still there since calculations based on
the content of those fields still works but no text is visible
onscreen.
This font also has the problem where the text will not change
to bold.
Anyone else seenig anything like this or have a solution?

IF we are now limited to setting only font styles that are
specifically defined in the font we're in real trouble.
This is NOT the way it worked in all previous version of
Director that I've used (7, 8, 8.5 MX, MX 2004).
The project I'm converting to D11 deals with font styles as I
would expect in MX 2004 on the very same machine with the same
fonts that D11 refuses to make bold.

I've gotten a little further on this. The dynamic select is
working fine. It's the "a href" code that isn't. I'm wondering if
someone can look at this line and tell me if it's okay to build the
query string this way. The storeid comes through fine but I'm still
not getting the employeeid value to pass. Here's line that's not

IPhone 4S on AT&T - texting issues

I'm one of those guys that is having texting problems with the iPhone 4S. I can't send or receive anything. It seems that most people have problems because of the new cap on texting data. However, mine does not say it is full or anything like that. Also, when I send texts, they seem to go but no one actually receives them. I cannot send group or mms messages. I have restored from a back up and as a new phone. Neither has worked. I've also reset my network settings and done multiple hard resets. I don't know what else to do. The only thing that is working is iMessage. It's getting kind of annoying that I can't send or receive and texts so if there aren't any new suggestions I guess I'll take my phone back to AT&T to see if they can help. Thanks in advance.

My wife is having the same issue, *exactly* as you describe it, with her iPhone 4s on AT&T. It's ridiculous, and so far AT&T tech support is totally unhelpful.

It's not a virus. It's a JavaScript scam that only affects your web browser, and only temporarily.
Some of those scam pages can be dismissed very easily. Press command-W to close the tab or window. A huge box will pop up. Press the return key and both the box and the page will close. If that doesn't happen, continue.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and uncheck the box marked Enable JavaScript. Leave the preferences dialog open.
Close the malicious window or tab.
Re-enable JavaScript and close the preferences dialog.
If the Preferences menu item is grayed out, quit Safari. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. From the menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server. Open your Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.

Happy to report that iTunes Match has returned to working like normal on iTunes 10.7 on my computer today. If any iTunes engineers read this thread, I really appreciate the fix.

Black Screen Mac OSX Yosemite (though not the common issue)

Hi all I've read a lot of posts already about the black screen that seems to be plaguing people lately, but my issue seems to be slightly different. Nothing loads, playlists are blank, and nothing can be selected to be played: http://i.imgur.com/wFNWMpe.png Before long, however, I reach the final stage of blackness: http://i.imgur.com/I9uQotr.png All I can do by this point is use the play/pause button on my mac, which will continue to play Mark Pritchard's 'Elephant Dub' (which, don't get me wrong, is not a bad thing--could have far worse tracks to get stuck on). I've tried reinstalling Spotify multiple times with no luck. I have noticed however that there is no Spotify cache and no folder in Application Support, and reinstalling does not bring these back. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm running OSX 10.10.4 if that at all helps. Thanks in advance!

LAN and WAN share the same MAC address -- could this be a security issue?

When I bought the AEBS(n), I was a bit surprised to see only one ethernet MAC address listed (on bottom of unit, or was it in config utility?), in addition to wireless MAC. My main router has two ethernet MACs.
So last nite, I investigated. I confirmed my suspicion that both the WAN port and the LAN ports share the same MAC address! My setup has the AEBS WAN port plugged into my home LAN's main router, and a Linux machine plugged into a LAN port of the AEBS.

I tried to provoke some leakage between the two sides (for example with broadcast packets), but haven't been able to do it so yet. Perhaps the switch in front of the eth MAC has enough smarts to keep the two subnets separate? Still it sort of worries me, if I used the AEBS as my only router, that both WAN and LAN go thru the same ethernet MAC (same h/w). I browsed here but found no discussion on this.

for ethernet and wireless, they are physically
different networks. In the case of the WAN/LAN, both
are ethernet-type networks but are physically
distinct (this is the purpose of a router like the
AEBS), so having the same MAC address on both sides
won't cause any sort of collision nor should it be
possible to leak across networks. MAC addresses can't
be used for routing beyond the physical network.
If it is indeed two different NICs sharing a single MAC, then indeed it is not an issue as you would never want to connect these two NICs together. But is it really two NICs?
My worry is that these two subnets are on the same physical network, with some magic going on to keep them separate anyway. Do we have some picture of AEBS internals? Maybe that would answer the question...

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you are not able to locate the Messages application on your daughters iPod touch (4th generation). The good news is that this application cannot be deleted or restricted. The first suggestion I have is to try and search for Messages using Spotlight to search the iPod touch for this application. If Messages is located in Spotlight, then it has probably been moved to a different page of applications or even possibly a folder of applications on the device. Searching all pages will help you locate it.

For them to read/get your iMessages, they would have to activate iMessage, using your Apple ID/password, on their computer...requires a Mac running Mountain Lion. Highly unlikely. If they did try to do such, you'd get an email, from Apple, telling you such had been done. You can prevent this by simply changing your password.
As to whatever is in your backup, now on their computer, there's nothing you can do about that. But, doubtful they'd go through the trouble of trying to extract anything from that backup...again, requires third-party software, as it is not directly accessible.

8350i texting issue (telus) please help!

I'm really getting tired of hearing about a fix in the works for the texting issue of the 8350i on the telus network. i still can't send a text or determine the sender of a text. its been a couple of months with this otherwise great phone, but I'm getting close to throwing it in the garbage. has anyone actually heard or know of a specific date when this texting issue may be resolved? I still can't believe that telus and or rim can't solve this issue, do they not understand that there are contractors out there that use the mike and need a smartphone? maybe if they actually made one that worked well they would be surprised at the overwhelming sales of such a device.

it has not been resolved .. Telus told me RIM had solved it with a 5.0.?.? ver of OS but it was pulled because it was messing other stuff up.. I don't know that this is true, this is what Telus told me.. I called RIM and they couldn't release anyinfo on the issue to me and directed me to the press release area of the site where I found SFA. I have the latest software 4.6.1.294 on my 8350i and it isn't that old maybe a year if that. There is no way I am spending 600 bucks so I can text ... there must be a fix .... someone please help

Mac book pro 10.5.7 sleep issue..... not even sydney genius bar can help me

ok hey guys, this is my first ever post on a support forum so please help me out!
I'll give any specific hardware info if needed later on but this is the basics:
i have had my mbp for over a year and 6months into it my mbp started going into sleep mode for no reason ...and no im not simple the energy settings are set to never sleep so its not that. Since then i have tried and tested everything under the sun to resolve the issue i have been to the genius bar and booked it in several times, each time they tell me they can not find any problem. I have had the logic board replaced - i have tried removing the p.list files, resetting pram thingy the battery test thing....everything...i have looked on endless forums for a resolution but nothing works!, it will go to sleep at random times generally when im doing alot of things on it it can run fine for days maybe sometime weeks but then its starts playing up again. When it does sleep the screen goes blank and the power light pulses but worst it cuts the internet connection which is terrible coz i have a time capsule and it cuts that link as well and messes that up entirely! sometimes it will just keep cutting out every 20-40 seconds untill i wake it by tapping the space bar or moving my mouse sometimes it just shuts down completely - i have done a compete erase & reinstall but ill b honest i still reinstalled some programs from my backups that cant be downloaded anymore (isquint etc) coz the genius guys said maybe a program is corrupting the hardware but if anyone has any ANY ideas or has the same problem please! tell me - im sure i could add more info n stuff but if u want 2 ask me specifics then i will answer anything to help

i should say at this point the only relief im getting to stop it from sleeping is if i disconnect the power adapter and use the battery that seems to stop it, but it has crashed(slept) on battery power as well but as of today doing this seems to help ....hasn't crashed since writting this! LOL

if not these softwares then im convinced im dealing with a power issue.
I would be doubtful (although not completely dismissive) of anything like these being the source of your problem.
the genius bar has said it may b an enviromental issue. this also may be the case, tho not so much recently. They said perhaps magnectic fields may cause it 2 go 2 sleep and its true moving my MBP around does seem to settle it for instance if i move it out of my room im yet to see any of my sleep issues occur
The movement sensor might be involved, as also louie's excellent suggestion of the temp sensor. It is difficult to know how to test these effectively and might need more tools than the GB can muster.
But i dont live in a electricity tower and i did move my MBP to the other side of my room where it worked for a good month - and then started again with the sparatic sleeping.
It is hard to disprove a negative. The only way to bring some sort of evidence to the table if there were some such interference would be to use the computer for an extended period away from where you are using it now. If it works without problem in (say) Starbucks or some other neutral area, and then fails within a few minutes of returning to your home, then there is something stronger to work with. Then you can start to track down some external source, I would guess.
So i will try a safe start as graham had suggetsed as this seems as a simple enough fix - but i do run a time capsule, ext 1TB HD, Wireless mouse etc ..which i presume will not work in safe mode .... and is the idea to just keep safe mode on untill it does crash again or will just starting up on safe mode then restarting solve the issue?
Time Machine ought to work in Safe Mode; and I would not suggest working that way for a lengthy period of time: just to start it up perhaps to clear something that is interfering. But what you write here is of interest: (A) The HD -- what is it (brand, etc, and how formatted) and how connected; plus the wireless mouse? What brand is that (and I presume you mean Bluetooth)?

Right. I couldn't either, and most shops won't: they would just replace the board. There is a shop here . . . but that is too far for you.
i think the battery is ok ..as i said it performs better at this point when i disconnect the power...but not always... i had a terrible day yesterday when it would keep going to sleep everytime i reconnected the power, if i try 2 persist it will keep going back 2 sleep ever 30 seconds untill i eaither just leave it be for a while or untill it just turns off completely!
That suggests, as I mentioned earlier, something awry with the battery/power combination; especially if the performance is not consistent. A battery should deteriorate gradually, not come and go.
If it does turn off when i turn it back on it wont even get to the grey apple logo it just keeps turning off after 2-5 seconds (turning off not sleeping)
so im at a loss why that is!
No power. You have to wait a while until the power level is brought up to a workable level.
The power cord seems fine all the pins spring out - the middle spring is smaller than the others tho.
