Mac OS X 10.4.11 won't update to latest software.

When i check for software updates, it indicates that there are no latest software updates, and that mine is up to date.
why won't it let me update to a newer version?
please help!

You have to understand the difference between an Update and an Upgrade.
An Update is a free change to add to the base code or as a bug fix within an existing Operating System. Such as the .11 added to 10.4.
An Upgrade is a complete new Operating System that must be purchased. Such as 10.5 Leopard to 10.6 Snow Leopard.
10.5 Leopard was written for Power PC Macs with code added to allow it to run on Intel MacBooks processors.
10.6 Snow Leopard has completely rewritten code and only runs on Intel Macs.
10.7 Lion used some 32 bit which allows it to run on Late 2006 through Early 2008 MacBooks and a lot of 64 bit code.
10.8 Mountain Lion is pure 64 bit, which excludes more systems than Lion did. It can only run on the Late 2008 through Mid 2010 MacBooks. It's not something you can add memory to, for example, as it involves the base architecture.
The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion or Mountain Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

You can upgrade from 10.4 straight to 10.6 with no problems as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM. Any program that runs under 10.4 should run under10.6. And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications

Safari won't load after latest software update

After the latest software update from Apple, Safari won't load. I've deleted the p.list and run OnyX to clean the system. It still won't load. This is a pain as Safari is my default browser and I have to get into Safari to change that. Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?

Actually you can change your default browser from within Mail, just go to Mail preferences and set the default browser to whatever you want. Unless you have cloned your system (before the update)which I heartily recommend,
you may have to use Pacifist to extract Safari from
the 10.4 installation package.

FCP won't update to latest version iteration, 5.1.2

While running software update on my iMac dual core, I noted the automatic download of Final Cut Pro 5.1.2 plus a Motion update. Great... however, on my G5 dual processor, my FCP version is 5.0.4. I run the software update each week, including today, and there has not been a new version update on this FCP in weeks. I went to the software support for FCP and downloaded the 5.1.2 version which, of course, won't update 5.0.4 because the update will only update 5.1 versions. I went to the earlier update sections to see if I could locate a 5.1 update download, to no avail. The only version available in the earlier downloads section is the version I am already running on my G5, 5.0.4. Seems like a catch 22 here... is version 5.1.2 available for dual processor G5s? I updated to the entire studio and to the universal version of FCP several months ago and don't understand why I can't upgrade my G5 installed FCP. Any suggestions?? Thank you.

It looks as though you have the correct version on your iMac, but have not crossgraded on your G5. If you had crossgraded on your G5 the version number for that machine would show 5.1 or 5.1.1. Remember, just because you have a license for your iMac doesn't mean that you can install it on your g5 too. You have to have a separate license for each machine.

ITunes 7.6 won't update my nano software to 1.2

I just bought the Nike+ and I have the black 4GB first gen. nano. The software version that is on it right now is 1.1 and for the receiver to work I know that I need 1.2
I updated iTunes to 7.6 thinking it would also update my nano software but it didn't. When I try to hit "check for updates" in iTunes under my nano summary it says "the iPod software update server could not be contacted". I know that my connection is fine, iTunes store will connect and the support page will connect from iTunes also.
Under the start menu I found the Apple Software UPdate icon and clicked on that. I'm not sure exactly what software it checks for updates, but when it is completed running it says that all of my software is up-to-date.
So I did some searching on Apple's website and found an old iPod Updater from 2006 that would probably update my software but it won't work because I have the newest iTunes and updates have to be done through that.
Without updating my nano to version 1.2 I know that I won't be able to use my Nike+ so if anyone could please help me I would GREATLY appreciate it! Thank you!

With that one, try the following document:
iTunes 7 for Windows: iTunes could not contact the iPod software update server
(If that box is already checked, try unchecking and rechecking, and clicking OK.)
EDIT: Sorry, the link in there to the Vista version of the instructions seems to be broken. Top find that LAN settings dialog in Vista, go "Start > Control Panel", click "Classic View", click "Internet Options", click the "Connections" tab, and click the LAN Settings button down the bottom.

My brand new Mac Pro running Mountain Lion crashes when installing updates or new software.

My brand new Mac Pro running Mountain Lion crashes and re-boots when installing updates or new software. I can only perform these operations while in the safe boot mode. I have reloaded OSX twice. Does not solve the problem. The machine is brand new. It replaced a previous MacPro that would not support the new Mountain Lion. When my new machine came in. I swaped the dirve out of my old unit into the new and ran the new Lion update. The machine has had this aforementioned problem since that time. Also, I had the Legacy version of File Vault running on the old machine/drive, which I also turned off(thinking that was the problem) but that did not fix the problem either.

Mac OS X 10.6.6 won't update to 10.6.7

Hey, all. I'm trying to update my MacBook Pro from 10.6.6 to 10.6.7, and it's not letting me do so. The update isn't showing up in the Software Update list, and when I try to run the installers manually it comes up saying "Mac OSX Update can't be installed on this disk. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update." For those interested, this is a mid/late 2010 15" MacBook Pro, model identifier MacBookPro6,2 (4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7). It's currently running OSX 10.6.6 build 10J3210. I'm not really sure what to do, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

that's exactly what I do: I have ONE source image for all my installation. If a new version of machine is approaching (here: MacBook Pro Early 2011) I update the image to the new machine (here built 10J3210) and create a new updated image from the newest machine - this was working in the past without problems.
It's no problem for me, to create a completely new image, which works. But than I have to manually transfer all personal data from the machines.
So I am still searching for an intelligent method to get 10.6.6 built 10J3210 updated to 10.6.7 on a NON MacBook Pro Early 2011...
Is there any trick to avoid the updater to check the hardware of the machine?
I think of modifing the "special updater for MBP early 2011 10.6.6. to 10.6.7" to an other model?

My mini mac with osx 10.8.1 won't update to 10.8.2

I hit update but nothing happens.. Restarted my mini mac and tried again.. Hit update and nothing happens..

So after restarting 3 times it now will update to 10.8.2 all fixed.

I did. In my download file, it shows all of the times I've attempted to download adobe. I double clicked on one of them, it opened the file that says "Install Adobe Flash Player". Tried it once again, still didn't work.

Bold 9900 won't update using desktop software

hello,
I have mountain lion on my Mac - using desktop software to update my bold 9900 to 7.1.0.2061.
It gets stuck after backing up third party applications and I get the error message - The device data could not be backed up, ensure that you can backup data on your device and try again.
I have done a factory reset and still same message. What is the problem? It won't run the update at all. Have backed up using blackberry protect as desktop software won't back up.
Any ideas?

This could be caused by a third-party application. Have you tried to uninstall non critical "exotic" apps before launching the backup process?
Secondly, do you have enough space available on your computer hard disk?
The backup function works as expected on my Mac for 3 different BB devices.

App won't update...Software updates says "

I have been trying to update my 1Password through Software Updates but I keep getting this window thatr says, "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." And, "There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (null)" There is no other app that I use more on my Mac. None! This is my most valuable app, recommended by many Mac Experts and resalers. I can't even find the receipt for it even though I CAN find the receipt for the mobile unit that I also purchased and don't even use.
I believe my Mac to have ben hacked and comromised or something. But I STILL have the app in question except that it will not update.

Please test after each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes. Keep in mind that no one here represents Apple or can help with customer-service issues.
Step 1
A purchased app can only be updated by signing in to the App Store with the same Apple ID that was originally used to buy it. There's no way around that limitation, which also applies to free apps. If you can't sign in with the buyer's ID, delete the app and reinstall it. You'll have to pay for it again, if applicable.
Step 2
From the App Store menu bar, select
Store ▹ View My Account
Enter your Apple ID password at the prompt. At the lower right corner of the window that opens, click the Reset button. Close the window.

BUG: Flash Pro CC 2014 won't update to latest

I have a CC membership and have updated to Flash Professional CC 2014 on both my desktop and laptop, however whenever I open a FLA saved from my Dekstop, opened on my laptop, Flash Pro complains that the FLA was created with a newer version of Flash Pro! I have checked many times to see if maybe i forgot to update it, but nope... the Creative Cloud downloader app says it is up to date.

My desktop version of Flash Pro CC 2014 is 14.1.0.96

My iCal won't update to latest version and can't get to go to mobile me!

Okay I have been banging my head over this one. I need my iCal to sync via mobile me to my iphone 4 and ipad.... but it won't go to mobile me at all and the only way i can copy it to my other places is by directly hooking it to my computer and synching. ANYWAY I think that maybe this is because my iCal is version 3.0.8 and needs to be 4.0.4 right? but i go to system updates and see no update for it.... how do I get it updated? Everything I read says it should be in the system update? Help I have way to much to manage to not be sharing my calander on all my devises. Regretting ditching an old school planner.

IPod Classic 120GB - iTunes Won't update my iPod software to version 2.1

I have a 120GB iPod classic with software version 2.0.1 bought in 2009.
I want to upgrade the software to version 2.1 so I can have the voice memo feature on my iPod.
I am running iTunes version 10.0.1
When I ask iTunes to check for a software update for my ipod it says, "This version of the iPod software (2.0.1) is the current version."
This is obviously not true.
I've tried to download the software update directly from apple.com ( http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120229 ) but it gives me a full download of iTunes 10.0.1 which I already have installed.
I don't understand why iTunes will not update my iPod's software. I don't understand why the iPod didn't come with the 2.1 version already installed. According to the download page, this version was released in 2003.
Can anyone please explain to me why or more importantly, HOW I can get the ipod software updated when iTunes fails to do it?

Sorry, but that firmware update is for a different model iPod, which would explain why its release date was from 2003 and not something more recent. The firmware on your 120 GB iPod is actually the most up to date version already.
