Mac OS X 10.4.9 Fixes Wireless Problems?

A few months ago, I had to downgrade from 10.4.8 because when I left the wireless on overnight, I would find it would be disconnected in the morning, and unable to reconnect without turning AirPort off and on again. This also happened when I was generally working away - first I would loose connectivity, and a few minutes later, the AirPort status icon would show I was disconnected. I'm now running 10.4.5 after noticing the problem starts with 10.4.6, but I was wondering if the latest version, 10.4.9, fixed this problem? So basically - does anyone who used these other versions and had the problems find that they are now fixed? If so, I'll finally download the update - but for the moment I'll stick with what I've got.
Thanks,
Robert

The wireless problems are not operating system specific, contrary to popular belief. They are specific to issues of bad firmware on the access points, loose wireless cards, or interference from external sources, or third party software that plays havoc with the wireless drivers. Here's my guide* to attempting to resolve most wireless problems. While I titled it 10.4.8, it has been found to affect not just 10.4.8, by every version of Mac OS to some extent and Windows too when certain issues are happening.

  • Cannot insert disk into drive. How to fix this problem?

    Hi,
I have a mac Mini and have had it since August last year. The disk drive has been working fine, until today. Cannot remember the last time I used the disk drive, but it couldn't have been more than two months ago. Anyways, the problem that has occured today is that when I try and insert a disk into the drive, it does not except it. The is no usual sound of the motors being activated by sensors to feed the disk into the drive. maybe the sensors are dirty? If so, how can they be cleaned? Have tried to insert the disk as much as I can into the drive until reaching a point where it will no longer physically go into the drive. This reaches half way on a standard size CD/DVD. Have tried many disks and have checked to see if there is any damage to any of these disks before inserting them into the drive. I am also very careful with taking disks out of th drive as soon as I am done with them as I am a bit cautious of these disk drives as it is the first time I have used them since August rather than a tray disk drive. I have also checked Finder to see if there are any disks curently in the drive to which there are none. Under the heading 'DEVICES' are the following:
Machintosh HD (Hard disk, as I am sure you all know)
iDisk (Am not sure what this is and haven't used it before)
Remote Disc (Again, not sure what this is and haven't used it)
BackUPHDD (This is my TimeMachine Hard Drive)
Film Work (This is my film Hard Drive with my work on)
Time (This is just another back up Hard Drive as my Mac Mini gets full quickley)
If you would like any more detail then feel free to ask.
Thank you for your time and effort to reading this post and hopefully responding.

Sorry for the late reply. Have been out of the country. Have figured an App for the iPod touch/iPhone/iPad and for Macs called 'iTeleport'. Am sure there are many others like this out there but it is amazing and lets one control the mac from their iPod touch/iPhone/iPad. Am still under warranty with about 60 days left apparently. Have been to the genius bar and they think that there is a small square object stuck inside the disk drive. =s Have no idea how that would have got in there. We tried fishing it out with a credit card but no luck. They advised to book the Mac in so that they can fix the problem. It will take 5-7 days but maybe sooner. Am currently moving everything from the Mac onto another HD just in case. Thank you for your responce towards this thread. <3 Apple and everyone on these forums for helping out with our problems. Thank you.

  • Mac mini and Snow leopard wireless problems

    Hi,
I got mac mini running snow leopard to our office from another branch, this is recently brought mac mini with snow leopard installed,
But the problem is I cannot connect to internet using wireless connections. Reading other posts i found out that there is a snow leopard issues with connecting to wireless network, but this problem seems to unique. When i connect to wireless network it shows me that, mac mini is connected to wireless network but doesn't take ip address from dhcp , its show some self assigned ip which is 169.254.226.163, but my network address are 192.168.1.*, ethernet works fines, but in wireless even when i gave manual ip , it connect but i cannot connect to internet neither i can ping to router.
I tried various methods suggests in forms, like deleting network preference files in /Library/Preferences and ~/Library/Preferences and also deleting network connection and adding new one, even updating to 10.6.3 but nothing works for me,
My macbook nicely connected to wireless and get ip, even PC connect nicely this issue is only with Mac mini
Could have suggest me how can i fixed this, Thank you very much,
    Best Regards,

Thanks DaddyPaycheck for your initial response. Before I jump onto the phone with Comcast couple of questions that I have for clarification purposes:
    1) Are you implying that I must link my blabla.com address to that static IP address through my Domain Provider? See following example:
Record Type Record Host Record Answer TTL
    A *.blablat.com >>Static IP<< 300
    2) The current IP I have been given 60.172.151.254, why is that not static or how do you know it is not static?
    3) When executing the command host in terminal for this IP address it returns the following: c-60-172-151-254.hsdl.co.comcast.net which coincidentally is the same as primary DNS it recommended during the initial configuration of the Mini Server. What does this mean? When I enter this in Safari it results in 'Safari can't connect to server'.
    4) Executing the same command for my domain name 'blabla.com' it results in my 'internal' IP address '1.0.10.9'.
Thanks in advance for any clarification you can provide,
    Tiest.

  • MAC strange wireless problem

I think I might have a rather unusual issue.
The problem is that my Macbook Pro (Lion osx) is not able to connect wirelessly to my Photosmart B109n. I can only connect via the usb cable. I am sharing the printer with two other laptop users(both windows), but they are able to connect wirelessly. I've reinstalled the driver multiple times and tried to setup the network configuration again and again but nothing works. This problem already exists for a while, also before I upgraded to Lion.
I am quite sure the problem is not caused by my router. At school, I am not able to use the HP color laserjets as well and I can only print via ethernet. In other words, there is something wrong with my mac. I seriously have no idea what it could be.
Our 'home network' is called 'Fitz'. Whenever I try to setup the network printer configuration, the printer asks for the network key and tries to connect to 'Fitz'. Every time the printer is able to connect to the network. After that, the config. assistant tells me that I can remove the usb-cable to continue the setup. Then the trouble happens. At the moment that I remove the usb-cable, the laptop immediately tells me that it isn't able to connect to the printer, because I am not connected to 'Fitz' (I always am) and I can only use the printer wirelessly if I am connected to 'Fitz'.
Resetting the print/fax list doesn't work either!
Please please can someone help me?? Thanks!
    This question was solved.

Curious how many of us are having the same problem---design defect? software bug?
I have done the following over the past few days (repeatedly, not in this order):
    1. Turned off and restarted printer, Mac (OS 10.6), Airport router
    2. Reset the printing system in System Preferences (at least 30 times in last 5 days); usually followed by restarting printer
    3. Removing power cord, waiting 30 seconds, restarting holding # and 6
    4. Turning bluetooth off and then on
    5. Turning wireless radio off and then on
Sometimes these fixes work, but only for 1 or 2 print jobs, then back to "Connection Failed. Unknown Error." And we start all over again, trying to guess which fix might work *this* time.
Sometimes I get a message on printer to remove USB device...when there is NO USB device connected. Nor has there been a USB device for at least 2 months (only USB device I have ever used is a flash drive for saving scans).
Printer is Photosmart All-in-One C309a, bought November 2009. Wireless issue appeared out of the blue last week. I have always had HP Printers but unless I can fix this problem for good this week (I am under deadline!) I will buy from another company.

  • Mac OS X 10.4.4 fixes shadow and colour issues in PDFs?

Apple's release notes for the Mac OS X 10.4.4 Update state:
Shadows within a PDF document created in Mac OS X 10.4.4 or later are visible in Adobe Reader as well.
Resolves an issue in which some PDF files could appear with inverted colors in Preview or other applications.
These two fixes might rid us of Pages' PDF issues.

  • 10.5.2 failed to fix wireless connection dropping problem

10.5.2 did not fix wireless connection dropping problem. I lose wireless connection whenever my MBP restarts or wake up from sleep in the building where I am and have to retype password about 10 times a day. I had not had this problem when I used Tiger. Everyone who has upgraded to Leopard or has it installed on their Mac is experiencing the same problem. Is there any solution or trick to resolve this problem? Thank you.

    Amularya,
Please read the post I made in this thread earlier. No less than a dozen solutions are offered in the link I provided for wireless issues. Troubleshooting wireless issues requires individual attention because of the plethora of issues which can't be tested for. So please start a new topic thread here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1225&start=0
So you can get a wider audience, and won't confuse the original poster with solutions that don't apply to them.
There literally hundreds of different WiFi adapters.
Dozens of different virus and firewall combinations.
Possibilities for damaged WiFi cards and routers, as well as routers whose firmware is not to spec with the latest wireless standard.
To top it off, bad RAM, hard disk being too full, and bad preference, cache or or logfiles can make various aspects of the operating system misbehave, and/or even the directory leading to those files.
Until each person starts their own thread looking for solution individually, chances are they won't find one. Yes, 10.5.2 addresses WiFi for some people. Obviously it doesn't for everyone. The point is, there are some people, like myself who have never had a WiFi issue either with Intel or PowerPC Macs that they couldn't resolve without a little bit of troubleshooting. I'm happy to help you walk through it, but only if you start your own thread asking for help.

  • Wireless radio is not functioning on C7250. Reboot didn't fix. #6 didn't fix, wireless light is on

Wireless radio is not functioning on C7250.  Reboot didn't fix. #6 didn't fix, wireless light is on, Vista 32 bit, Win 7 32 bit, D-Link DIR-625 router. Worked great for 2 years. Diagnostic says Contact HP support.  Other functions work fine. Prints via USB all right.

Thank you for your suggestions.  I appreciate your help.
I had previously verified that the wireless radio was on.  The wireless radio test report confirmed it was on.
I had not used the network settings reset function as I was focused on looking for a "printer reset" capability.  Based on your suggestion I used the network settings reset and then printed the HP Network Configuration Page.  This confirmed the settings had been reset.  However this test also checks for all available 802.11 networks.  The report shows the number of networks discovered as 0.  Based on this, I'm assuming the wireless is still not working.

  • Mac OSX 10.5.7 and GMAx3100: NO UPDATES!! Why Apple don't fix this problem?

I update yesterday to mac osx 10.5.7 my macbook with gma x3100. Exposè in VERY SLOW since 10.5.0 (on tiger will work perfectly), opengl performance are very poor respect gma950 and it is incredible!!!
why apple ignore us? why gmax3100 users can't use exposè because is very very slow and not fluid?
Apple fix this problem, it is RIDICOLOUS.

Man... gmax3100 have a POOR opengl performance under Mac Osx Leopard in 2d. It is NOT my problem but it is a known problem. Try to run some benchmark with gma950 and gma x3100.
    Macbook c2d 2.2 opengl performance x3100: 23.28
    MacMini cd 1.6 opengl performance gma950: 184.76
    it is a know problem:

    ecc.
exposè make 40fps and it is NOT fluid like a nvidia or ati card. Exposè is a simple animation, under arch linux and geforce3 (2001) is more more fluid respect leopard... and respect to tiger.
    with this hack:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver Compositor -dict deferredUpdates 0
exposè is much MORE fluid so it is a driver problem (because with tiger there's no problem!!)
I have NO problem with my macbook.

Easiest way with Acrobat pro, is save the Word document, then convert the document to PDF with Acrobat, rather than doing a "save as" in Word itself to PDF.
Do you have Acrobat full version or Pro?
