Mac os x 10.4 to 10.6, will I lose the programs on the computer?

If I have mac os x 10.4 and I switch to 10.6 will I lose the programs on the computer? If so how can I save them?

An "Archive and Install," one of the OSX install options, preserves apps and your settings. However, Adobe uses some pretty tough copy protection schemes, so I can't say DC3 will be OK in confidence. Best to use the Adobe Knowledge Base for older versions of their products.
Some disk sets cannot upgrade 10.4 to 10.6 without having 10.5 installed. I believe the version of 10.5 that came in the box set with iLife would work.

Need more information to help you, but I am providing some suggestions.  Sorry if you are past these type of basic things.  But didnt really have much to start with and understand your technical level to start with.
Have you got into Settings > Computers > Turned on Home Sharing (Note: You must use the some Apple ID used by the iTunes library on your MAC for them to see one another)
How is your MAC connected to the network vs the 720 ATV2?  Is one WiFi and the other Ethernet?  Have you tried switching the ATV2 to WiFi if Ethernet?
Has the MAC been restarted since this started happening?  Same with your Router and any other networking device being used?  Sometimes an IP conflict can arise in your networking and most consumer networking equipment does not know how to "self heal" without a reboot.
Make sure you have given those things a whirl and share back your results.  Any other information you can provide, such as how you connect to your network from each ATV and MAC.

  • Trying to sync a new iphone 5 to my mac to get my music over it keeps telling me that the computer is no longer authorised for purchased items but it is . I have tried de authorising and then redoing it but nothing works

Hi all I am trying to swap my music over from my mac to phone but not having any luck . Although my mac is authorised it keeps saying that its not. I  have de authorised it then re done it but still the same . Not up to doing anything drastic and have heard some horror stories about loosing all contacts while messing about with back ups and cant afford to have that happen to me . Ideas anyone ??

    Hi leefromwoodford,
The following article will tell you how to transfer purchased music from your iPhone to the your Mac -
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
    Specifically -
    Transferring purchases
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod has your purchased content from the iTunes Store, you can transfer the content to a computer that is authorized for your Apple ID.
Note: This option only works for content you purchased from the iTunes Store (as opposed to content from other sources, such as CDs you may have imported). For content you did not purchase from the iTunes Store, synchronization occurs in one direction only. This means your content can be copied from a computer to your iOS device, but cannot be copied from your device to a computer.
    Open iTunes.
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer.
Enter your Apple ID and password. Then, click the Authorize button.
Connect your device your computer. If it is synced with another iTunes library, you may be asked if you want to "Erase and Sync" or "Transfer Purchases."
If that alert appears, click Transfer Purchases.
Important: Clicking Erase and Sync will delete any existing content currently on your device. The content would then be replaced with the content that is on the computer.
If you were not offered the option to transfer purchases:
After connecting your device to the computer, its icon appears in iTunes. Click the icon.
From the File > Devices menu, choose "Transfer Purchases from 'Your device name.'"
Note that the computer must be authorized for the Apple ID under which the purchases were made.
You may also want to download the music directly from the iTunes store, rather than using the iPhone. See this article -
    Download past purchases

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Will I lose the music files on my IPhone when I sync with my new Mac Book?

I have music files on my iPhone that I fear will be lost when I first sync with iTunes on my new Mac Book. When I try to sync a msg pops up saying that all music on the iPhone will be deleted and replaced by the selected music from my Mac Book.
Is there anyway to overwrite the computer iTunes with the files of the iPhone. The option to overwrite the iPhone is there but the other way around??
    Appreciate all assistance.

I'm afraid you're asking in the wrong place. iSync is only for syncing Contacts & Calendars to non-Apple mobile phones.
Try the Using iTunes for Mac or one of the iPhone forums.
What you should do is transfer your iTunes Library from the old computer to the new one, then continue syncing as normal.

  • If I format my WD My Book 6TB so I use it on my Mac will I lose the WD Drive Utilities?

Hi, If anyone could help me, it would be much appreciated. I've just bought a 6TB WD My Book and wanted to start back up to it but then realised I couldn't access it on my mac as it needs formatting. If I format it will I use the WD utilities? I really want to be able to password protect it. Any help would be great, thanks!

    Hello Natasha,
first of all you have to deactivate/activate by using Activation & Deactivation Help
After that you best install a try version from Adobe's website and change it with your Adobe ID's aso. into a "real" version.

  • Formatting iPod on MAC....then PC...will I lose my music?

I have a Mac at work and a PC at home. My new iPod was formatted and its iTunes content downloaded from the Mac. However, when I plugged it into my PC to either charge the battery or download iTunes from that computer, it asked me if I wanted to "format the iPod for a PC."
My question is, if I say "yes," will it then wipe out all of my music from the Mac? Can it be formatted both ways or must I choose one or the other? I've searched similar topics on this board but couldn't find an answer. Thanks!
    20" iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I guess I'm out of luck then since I originally formatted it to the Mac instead of a PC.
No. Just Restore it on the PC and uyou can use it on the Mac and the PC.
If you Restore the iPod, it will do nothing to the music on your computer.
It will erase everything on the iPod.
If you want to use it on both computers, Restore it with iTunes on the PC. Then you can just reload the music from the Mac.

  • HT2471 How do I recover my Mac Book Pro back to the day I purchased it? Will I lose the apps that came with this Mac Book when I recover it?

How do I recover my Mac Book Pro back to the day I purchased it? Will I lose apps that came with the Mac Book if I recover it?

Press the command and r keys when turning on your Macbook.  Do not release those keys until you see the apple logo...
Disk Utility will pop up.....Your choices are to reinstall, you will not lose anything....
if however, you decide to format/erase your drive, then reinstall, you will lose everything...
suggestion - back everything up and do a clean install.
    good luck

  • Place Mac Mini next to Castle Bastion Center speaker, will it kill the HD

    Hi,
I just bought a Mac mini as replacement for my Apple TV. The Apple TV was right under the TV, sitting on it's stand, and about 7cm below was the center speaker. Now I want to place an external HD and my Mac Mini right next to my Castle Bastion Center Speaker. Will this damage my Mini's HD or the external HD drive. I don't know if this center speaker is shielded or not.. I've also read pc mag article that there is nothing to worry about, but what are your experiences? I'd rather be on the safe side then not... but there is more than enough room for Mac Mini next to the speaker, so why shouldn't I put it there... help!!!??

I notice you mention being limited to a 4:3 resolution with the VGA connection. If you use composite or S-video you will be using an SD signal, which will normally just be 640x480, which is a 4:3 aspect ratio. The VGA and component connections should offer the highest resolutions. What is the model number of your projector, as I can find very little information about the Illumina series - and what I can find relates to 4:3 only.

  • Mac os x 10.3 or later cannot be found on the computer

i have a mac g5, but i dont know what OS it is. When i turn it on it just goes to "mac is starting up" and just stays there. but i have a os x Triger disc and when i try to install it it say " mac os x 10.3 or later cannot be found on this computer" i and that i need to have 10.3 or later to upgrade to 10.4. can any one help?

On a G5 (iMac oder PowerMac) you can go up to Mac OS 10.5 Leopard. Unfortunately Apple is actually only selling 10.6 Snow Leopard, which didn't work on your computer. So the best thing is get a used 10.5 full install disc.
Be aware: There are grey installations discs that comes bundle with a new Mac. That disc only works with the model it was sold with. (iMac -> iMac, iMac ≠ PowerMac, PowerBook ≠ iMac ....) So when you buy a 10.5 installation disc be sure it's not a bundled grey installation disc, instead get a separate sold one.
Or: you can have a look if you find the 10.3 install disc, that comes with your G5. Install that 10.3 and afterward update to 10.4 with the drop-in disc you have.

  • I have a mac laptop and when i plug my ipod touch (fourth generation), the computer does not even know its there. I look for the little box where the devices usually are and there is nothing showing up. I need help.

    Additional info.
This computer is a computer handed out to us from school that we use throughout highschool. We are allowed to sync our itunes accounts so theres no problem there.

  • HT4889 Will I lose my programs on one mac if I transfer it through another with Migration Assistant?

I want to transfer Microsoft Office Word from my father's macbook to my macbook.
If I transfer it through Migration Assistant, will the program get deleted off of his computer?

When you use the Migration assistant, the information is copied (not moved) from the "old" computer to the "new" one.  Keep in mind that if you continue to run it on the "old" computer as well as on the "new" one, you will most likely be in violation of the EULA for that software (aka performing software piracy).  You will need to check the license agreements of the software, and quite possibly buy new licenses, if you intend to use it on both computers.

  • Changing my iphone 4 from a pc to a mac will i lose my numbers and texts

Changing my iphone 4 from a pc to a mac will I lose my contacts and texts

One computer can sync to multiple iOS devices (iPods, iPads, iPhones). That won't be a problem.
Currently you need a computer to act as home base for an iOS device however that will change when iCloud comes out and - in theory - you will be able to get by without having a computer and everyting will sync via iCloud.
