Mac OS X 10.5.7 bug

I have found a graphical bug with finder's windows. To have the bug you must do this: Select a file, press "Get Info", in the info menu mark the option "Stationery Pad", and now open the file.
Its only happens with icon's view, and in every folder that I test less the root directory.
I have a MacBook4,1 and Mac OS 10.5.7 (9J61).

Hi, I was able to reproduce your post. I opened the finder window, selected icon view (I prefer to use column view) and selected a small .rtf document file and then command I and clicked on stationary pad and then opened the file. What happened to me is that in the finder window the green, yellow and red buttons and icons at the top of the finder window get messed up just like your second picture. I also notice that I had a copy of my original document after doing this. In column view the finder window is not messed up but I still got a copy of the original document. I have no idea what the stationary pad box in the get info window would be used for. I never use that check box, so I can live with this bug as this is the only time it happens. I also have 10.5.6 on another drive for trouble shooting and the same thing happens when I boot up on that. So it is not a 10.5.7 issue only, at least for me.

  • Mac Mini 2014 Airplay Display Disconnect Bug?

I have a 2014 Mac Mini running OS X 10.10.1 connected via HDMI to a 32" Panasonic TV model TX32LZD80. I can also connect using Airplay Display to a 40" Sony TV Model No. KDL 40V5810 via an Apple TV. The Apple TV and Mac Mini are both connected to a Time Capsule via Ethernet.
When I switch on AirPlay Display to mirror the screen on the Sony TV everything works okay.
When I subsequently disconnect the Airplay Display the screen is no longer mirrored on the Sony TV as expected but the drop down menu for Airplay Display on the Mac Mini is as follows:-
Whereas I would have expected it to be as follows:-
Trying to Disconnect Airplay Display has no effect.
If I go into Display Preferences and set AirPlay Display to Off it immediately reverts to Apple TV.
Is this a bug? Should I report it to Apple or am I doing something wrong?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I set up a call with Apple Support and after about 2 hours the problem was tracked down to my Sound Settings in System Preferences. Once I selected Internal Speakers the problem was resolved.
I hope this might help someone else.

  • What should Mac users do about the Heartbleed bug?

I've been reading about this new Heartbleed bug where you should change all your passwords. It seems these days that quite frequently something like this appears, and the first thing they tell you is to change all your passwords. I would just like to know from someone who knows what they are talking about how Mac devices are affected by Heartbleed. do I need to make a mad dash to change all my passwords?

The short answer to your first question is - if you're worried, change your password. Better safe than sorry. If it's just a few sites, it shouldn't be too onerous a task, hopefully.
Gaining access to one site does not allow an intruder to access other sites.
When you say "log into" Youtube or Google - just to clarify:
    - If you use your web browser to go to youtube.com, and view videos, or you go to google.com, and do a search for something, technically you're not logging in. You're just visiting. This poses no risk to you.
    - However, if you go to youtube.com, or google.com, and click "Sign in", and enter a user name (usually an email address) and password, then you're logging in, and your password and other information may be at risk.
When you visit Google, look at the very top of the screen. If you see your name there, you're signed in, and you DO have a Google account. If you don't, you're not signed in, and from what you say, you probably don't have a Google account.
The only way that email might be affected is if you regularly access your email through the web (ie, you log onto http://comcast.net), and your mail host (Comcast) tells you that they were susceptible to Heartbleed. Accessing mail through a mail application (the Mail app on your Mac, for example) is not affected by this issue. It's really all about websites. Most applications, such as iTunes, are not affected. (I say "most" because some may have used OpenSSL to access services, or are linked to sites which use OpenSSL - such as Dropbox.)

  • [MAC: InDesign CS4] Export to Dreamweaver bug

    Hi,
I have InDesign files with graphics (.eps, tif, ai, psd) linking but the original grapics are missing. I have to do xhtml conversion without graphics and to keep the original graphic file name linking in the xhtml. Earlier when I export the CS3 file to xhtml via "Export to Dreamweaver..." and check the option "Copy Images" as "Original". InDesign stored all the file names in the xhtml file whether it is missing or not.
    InDesgin CS3 (xhtml output)
    <img src="00_99cent-web-images/99%20cover%20text_illus.ai" alt="missing image file" />
The problem is nowadays we are getting InDesign CS4 files we have upgraded the software to InDesign CS4, with latest path 6.0.5, but when generating the xhtml via "Export to Dreamweaver..." it doesn't give the graphic name.
    InDesgin CS4 (xhtml output)
    <img src="00_99cent-web-images/" alt="missing image file" />
Could you please look into this and do the needful.
    Thanks,
    Anil Yadav

    Hi Peter,
The strange thing is, I just come to know, it is working well on InDesign-PC.
This is really strange that something is fixed on PC plateform but not on MaC. Anway I have log the problem at bug report form

  • Chess game in Mac OS X is there a bug fix for it

This is not a major issue but I have noticed it on all the Apple computers I have played the Chess game that comes with the Mac OS X and it seems to only involve the Pawn making an illegal move when capturing another piece. As we all know the Pawn can only capture by one space in a diagol move yet the Mac OS X supplied Chess game a Pawn will and can often capture an opponents piece that is directly next to it, yet still moves in diagnol fashion and for the same token this illegal move can is sometimes offered to me if I ask for a move hint. This is very frustrating as I play the supplied chess game often is there a fix for this bug

    Hello again Daniel...
I found a thread where "cornelius" suggested corrupt preferences as a potential cause for Chess problems...
His solution was to go to your Home > Library > Preferences and drag your com.apple.Chess.plist to the DeskTop and Restart your computer and reopen the Chess game...see the link

  • Logic 7.2 and Mac OS X 10.4.6 bug?

I just updated to Mac OS X 10.4.6 and noticed that Logic will only play at some random sample rate around 25000. I have it set at 48000 (like it was before the update). The audio midi utility says it's at 48000 too... I have an Echo Layla 3G, which hasn't had a driver update in eons, so may be that is the problem. Anyone else notice any problems?

as the jump to intel progresses, so too will incompatibilities between PPC and intel mac. this will force us all to buy more apple.

  • The bookmarks bar is really wide on the Mac version. Is this a bug?

Surely this is a bug. The bookmarks bar is ''huge!''
On a related note, is it possible to get rid of the favicons? It's really ungainly.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See [[Basic Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting&#58; Make a new profile]]
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
    See also:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Testing_pre-release_versions

You can hide the favicons on the Bookmarks Toolbar with code in userChrome.css
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Editing_configuration#How_to_edit_configuration_files
Add code to [http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserChrome.css userChrome.css] below the @namespace line.

  • Mac OSX  10.5.5 update bug

Has the bug in the 10.5.5 update been fixed yet? Is it safe to download and install?
I use Log and Transfer for my P2 data and I know that in previous posts some people have had problems with this not working after updating to 10.5.5
    Thanks.
    Weenie

There have been a lot of posts on this and I think that James R came across the cause (of at least my problem) in a different post
In my case - I had had the problem in 10.5.5 with Perian installed. I was in the process of reinstalling and I removed Perian and it seems to work fine. I'm not sure that it's the cause but it might be worth looking at.

  • Mac mini and mouse: Curious bug

My Mac mini shows a quite curious bug. When I move the mouse while logging off an user - whether an admin or one with restricted rights - the mouse freezes. I have to log in and off again to make the mouse move again. I changed the mouses and re-installed the OS. It didn't fix the bug. Has anyone an idea how to solve this problem?
    Message was edited by: Malah

    Hi there,
I am also having bizarre freezes of the mouse (wireless USB Microsoft (yuk) which had been fine. The mini, however, has been weird anyway lately. I had to "zap" P RAM something not done since golden days ) to get the external firewire drive to mount again...I am now running a 7 port hub(firewire and Usb) (iogear) and all is working well . Mouse , however is plugged right into the USB port on Mac Mini . It also seems to not be playing well with Firefox version 2 (disn't do the FF 3 update yet because I was already having problems)...
I'd say I'm getting mouse freezes every time I leave the computer for more than 10 minutes. There seems to be some relationship with "sleep' too...running 10.4.11 and have it set NOT to sleep because of this, but it does anyway and then freezes and won't wake up (after left on for a while). I have run all the utilities including Onyx & they say all systems GO.. I do plan to work on it via Disk Warrior by connecting it to the G5...
Any ideas? I use a satellite ISP...This started to happen about a month ago...all of this sleep, freeze, missing port behavior...I have a lot of plugins for firefox as I'm an active twitterer (using TWhirl). so there are a bunch of new apps and online apps I'm beta testing too...there may be something here !
    Thanks so much.
    best to y'all

  • Modal dialog bug in Illustrator CS3, CS4 (Mac)

Using the latest point version of Illustrator CS3 and a newly installed copy of Illustrator CS4, I have noticed a consistent bug on at least two different Macs (10.5.5). This bug pops up when you have a text item with optical kerning, and you try to manually adjust the kerning between characters. The value in the kerning field of the Character Panel has parenthesis around the numbers to show that it is a calculated value. If you change the numbers, but accidentally leave the parentheses, a modal dialog pops up saying, "Invalid numeric value." It is not possible to dismiss this dialog, and it is necessary to force quit the program.
When the text is Auto-kerned, and one makes the same mistake, the parentheses are automatically removed for you.
Using Illustrator CS3 in Windows, the "Invalid numeric value" dialog pops up under the above scenario; however, one is able to dismiss this dialog and resume working.

I wasn't quite sure where to submit bug reports, which is why I posted here. However, I finally did find the bug report form on the Feedback tab of Adobe's Contact page. So I just reported this bug.

  • 68k Macs & "2038 Bug"

I did a test on my Macintosh IIsi to see how many years the operating system can handle prior to year 2038. To put it in simple terms, the 2038 bug means any non 64 bit CPUs can handle years on or close to year 2038 because of the way the computer processes mathematics like years and days.
The Mac runs OS 7.1, and the d-day is December 31st. 2019! In less than 5 years, this particular Mac will fall back to 1920 and dates forward.
My questions to the old timers are:
What Macs are impacted by this "2020 bug"?
What CPUs (the processor) are impacted?
    What operating systems are impacted?
Are all Power PC-based Macs can be workable for date records up to 2038? (my B/W G3 can run up to December 31st, 2037)
If there is a limitation to all, what Macs starting with OS and systems capable of handling dates to that year?
I do know that G5 Macs, Intel Macs, apps written in 64 bit and OS X 10.5 forward are capable of recording dates after 2038 as they are 64 bit based systems.

    Hi Lastmile,
I cannot provide you with an old version of LabVIEW, but hopefully I can help you find some useful documentation.  Take a look at the Manuals search on our website to try to locate specific manuals.  When looking for older versions, I suggest searching by the year of release.
LabVIEW for Macintosh Upgrade Notes (version 4.1)
LabVIEW Release Notes for Macintosh (version 4.1)
LabVIEW Function and VI Reference Manual (version 4.1)
LabVIEW User Manual (version 5: should be very similar)

  • Mac Mini and thunderbolt/vga to LCD TV

    Hi All,
    Here is an interesting one......
I have just taken delivery of 5 new Mac Minis which have the thunderbolt port on them.  The Mac Minis each connect using displayport tb/vga adapter to a switch then on to 5 LCD TVs.
    The HDMI/DVI is not used.
In this config, if I start a Mac Mini the display will not route through the Thunderbolt/vga adapter to any of the TVs (even though I have selected them on the switch). The display seems to want to go through the default HDMI port.
If I connect a standard PC monitor to the tb/vga adapter and reboot, the screen shows correctly on the monitor.  If I then change cables without a reboot, the LCD TVs show correctly!
I can add the PC monitor as a second monitor using HDMI/DVI and ensure that the outputs are mirrored AND that the VGA display is the primary.  However, on reboot it's as if the details are all forgotten!
Searching around it seems that there are issues with Mac Minis and VGA connections to LCD TVs.  That said, I wanted to put my environment out there and see if anyone had an ideas.
Interestingly enough, with older Mac Minis (without the tb/vga) it works perfectly well, indicating a problem with the new Mac Minis.
    Thanks for ANY ideas!!!!

    Hey Spost!
You have explained exactly what happened to me last night.  I was afraid it was part of the 10.8.3 update or the latest ATV software update that hit this week.   I tried from my macbook pro and the airplay from 10.8.3 and the atv software worked fine.
Previously my mac mini was connected to a monitor in my basement but last night i made it "headless" and moved it to my "server closet"  airplaying prior to the move worked great ... then last night 4:3 Green Screen.
My guess is the computer needs to be connected to a external display in order for airplay resolution to figure itself out.   Via Logmein i could see that the Mirror mode wanted to use the resolution that fit the mac and not what was best for the Apple TV ... Even forcing the change made the setting go right back to this mac.
Looks to be a bug in a plist file that apple would need to fix as many people run headless mac mini's and now wish to AirPlay to their Apple TV's without the need for a external cable run.
