  • Which Mac Mini is best for Editing in Final Cut Pro X i5 or i7 ?

Hey guys plz suggest me a good mac mini machine for editing in Final Cut Pro X. Is there any difference in i5 mac mini or i7 in terms of rendering or editing, and what is the use of an SSD drive in terms of editing in mac mini either than its 5400rpm HD, or should i buy imac i5 with ssd ?
Lets see if i buy mac mini i5 with 16gb ram and a ssd drive,  Will it work better than mac mini i7 with 16gb ram but without ssd drive ?
So guys plzz suggest me the best mac specs for video editing
    Thanks in advance

    Your budget?
Take a look at this: http://www.barefeats.com/minivmp.html
The 2012 Quad-Core i7 Mac mini is a real contender when it comes to CPU power compared to our examples of a Quad-Core Mac Pro and Quad-Core iMac. We plan to add some other examples of Quad-Core desktop Macs (including a faster Mac mini) to these graphs in the days ahead but the point is made.
However, the GPU in the 2012 Quad-Core i7 Mac mini is weak in comparison to the Mac Pro (and iMac) as you can see from the "Heaven" graph.
That's going to affect its ability to handle advanced Pro Apps that make use of the GPU for certain types of effect rendering.
These apps include Apple's Final Cut Pro and Motion as well as Adobe's Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects.
The Mac mini's Intel HD 4000 GPU will also hamstring hard-core gamers.
The Mac mini is also weak in support of OpenCL as you can see from the "LuxMark" graph.
It is forced to render the model using only CPU while the iMac and Mac Pro GPUs are able to render the model.
Why does this matter? Because apps like Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Photoshop use OpenCL acceleration for rendering certain effects.

Even a Mac Pro (refurbished special 4-core 2.8 is $1819 and can be upgraded to more RAM, 4x4TB w/o going into Thunderbolt storage) and have multiple SSDs as the choice or need arises.)
Fusion drive + Thunderbolt but I think you are asking too much out of the mini. It is fine for a lot of uses.

  • Just Opened My New Mac Pro and trying to install Final Cut Pro

Just opened up my new Mac. I'm trying to install Final Cut Pro. I put the CD in the tray and it doesn't install. Usually the install icon comes up on the desktop, but it doesn't. I am logged in when attempting to install it.

The answer to your first question is to use the "Finder". That is how you access your storage media, folders and files on a Mac... I assume by this question that you must be a Windows user.
When you open the Disk Utility, you should see both the drive and any media mounted by the drive. You also went to the System Profiler via "About This Mac". The DVD drive is not shown in the overview, but is found in ATA, and the burner in Disc Burning. In ATA you should see the physical drive and also below, any disc mounted by the drive.
Although application CD/DVD discs should open on the desktop when inserted, the same is not necessarily true of music CD's. What Mac OS X does in their case is dictated by settings in System Prefs, CDs & DVDs.
If you need AppleCare, whatever you do, don't just arrive there without a Genius Bar appointment, or you'll be wasting a trip. As far as contacting Cupertino AppleCare by phone, you can find that at the bottom of the Support page under "Contact Support".
...And I agree with the others, that being descriptive is always best.
    Hope this helps.

  • Not quite buyers remorse, but... Mac Mini, final cut pro x

Yesterday I bought my first mac, a late 2012 mac mini 2.3 GHz i7 with 4GB RAM.  I do some very semi-professional video work and for years have been using a PC I built with Sony Vegas and it was time to get mac.
I know I took a chance with the mac mini, considering it doesn't have dedicated GPU, but it's not as snappy as I expected.  To be fair, I've ordered RAM to get this machine up to 16GB, so maybe it will get better.
What I'm wondering is if there's any other mac mini users who have are using final cut pro x and adobe photoshop with similar specs?
I may be returning this and building my own PC again, I don't know.  I really want this mac to be as awesome as I think it can be.  Any experiences is appreciated.

Not FinalCut, but I do use Adobe Premiere, Encore and AfterEffects as well as PS, Dreamweaver and Audition.
PS was terribly slow with the OEM 4Gb. My Mini is a Corei5.
I first bumped up to 8Gb and that helped, but Premiere was still slow rendering. Photoshop worked well.
I have 16Gb now and I can run PS or Premiere with a Virtual Machine running too, and no lag at all.

  • Final Cut Pro X and Mavericks

I am running Lion on my iMac. I have a lot of videos on an external connected harddisk.
I want to buy AppleTV to show my videos on my HD TV.
My iMac from midt 2010 has a 3,3 GHz Intel Core i3 prosessor  and 4GB 133 MHz DDR3 memory.
    OS X Lion 10.7.5.
Will Final Cut work with Mavericks or will Mountain Lion do?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Final Cut Pro X will work without any problem in your Mac. Note that the most recent Final Cut Pro X version (which is the only one available in the Mac App Store) is only compatible with OS X Mavericks, so you should run OS X Mavericks.
The only problem you have is that your iMac is "too old" (in case you are a professional user that needs the best performance) with an "old" GPU. This means that you should not expect the same experience as on a Late 2013 iMac or the Late 2013 Mac Pro.
Note that you do not need Final Cut Pro to watch videos, because it is an app to create videos and movies. I tell you this because you only mention that you have a lot of videos, in case you thought you need Final Cut Pro to watch them

  • Motion and Final Cut Pro Problem

I recently updated my computer and went with the new Quad-Core Mac. I had to reload the Final Cut Pro Studio software, and I've got a problem that is vexing me to no end.
I can import a Motion template (one that I've designed and even the Apple produced templates), but I try to view it in Viewer or when I place the Motion template on the timeline it won't work. Nothing visible on either the Viewer or the Canvas when I try to playback. I can right click and open the template in Motion and have the elements appear and work properly, but nada once it comes back into Final Cut.
    What gives?
    John

I find the roundtrip to Motion to be less than useful when there are a lot of layers involved. What works better for me is to export a movie using the same settings you're using in FCP and then import that. If the settings in Motion match the FCP settings, no rendering should be required. Unfortunately, you can't then use the "open in editor" function to fix anything... but must reopen the Motion project and export again.

  • Can Final Cut Pro 606 work in Maverick

Im running Final Cut Pro 606 OS 10.6.8 and want to know if it works in Mavrick?

    Hi there avcreations1,
It looks like Final Cut Pro 6 is not supported in OS X 10.7 and later. The article below states that only Final Cut Pro 7 and X are compatible with Mac OS X Lion (v10.7).

  • Final Cut Pro 4 won't work on my new Macpro

I just bought a brand new Macpro and loaded Final Cut Pro v4 that I used successfully on my G4. It came up with a message that said, among other things, that I need a AGP Video graphics card for this software to work, and my computer did not have it.
Is it necessary to upgrade to the new Final Cut Pro 6 by buying the Final Cut Studio 2, and will that software work on my MacPro? Or is there an AGP Graphics card I can buy and install?
    Thank you.

If you do a search in this forum, you'll note that there are many posts regarding problems with FCP 4 and Intel Macs. Primarily, FCP 4 was released before the Intel transition and was written specifically for the Power PC processor. In order for a program to work natively on an Intel Mac, it needs to be Universal. Final Cut Pro 5.1 is the first Universal version.
There are also a number of reports regarding incompatibility with FCP 4 and Quicktime 7.
Final Cut Studio 2 works really well on our MacPros here, so it may be worth the upgrade for you.

  • An Excellent Tutorial for Final Cut Pro X

I am fairly new to Mac and I am learning Aperture and Final Cut Pro X.
Just wanted to share an excellent video tutorial for Final Cut. Its free but there is an "extended edition" of sorts for a reasonable price.
    http://www.izzyvideo.com
    Cheers!

I thought there would be some plugins for Quicktime, like Final Cut studio, which made from Quicktime---> Quicktime Pro. And under Final Cut Studio there was also some Protoolkit installed. No longer necessary?
I just want to be 100% sure, that FCP X and Motion 5 is a completely self-contained app, that need no installation. But up to now, nobody can tell me  100% if it really is so.
I thank you for your answers and hope that you understand my thoughts, about having a Dvd where I can install it from or where I can save the self-contained app, if it is so.

  • Final Cut Pro drop frames on timeline playback

i have Mac Pro Dual Xeon 2.0Ghz, 3GB Ram, 2 SATA IIHDs 1 for system and other for Final Cut.
But when inport any video to timeline and try to play back the only think i get is dropped frames. I have to render and render anyting i put in timeline.
I am using Mac OS X 10.4.9 and Final Cut Pro 5.1.4
    Help me!
In my school i have power mac G4 DP with 768 ram and final cut 5.0 with no problems, just rocks.
Mac Pro Dual Xeon 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

If you have to render... it's a mismatch.
Check your video files again... AGAIN!
Scroll across the video file in your browser window and see what EXACTLY the codec and size and frame rates are.
IF they don't match your sequence you'll have to render.
Now -- sometimes if the windows are overlapping or your video isn't set to Fit-to-Fill for the windows you'll get some dropped frames... make sure that is good too.

  • Use other codecs like DivX or mainconcept with Final Cut Pro

    Hello,
I'm trying to use DivX and/or the h.264 codecs from mainconcept with Final Cut Pro X (10.0.2). Both tries failed...
Do I have to do something special to activate these codecs with Final Cut and Compressor?
    Thanks in advance
    Sascha

Ok, but neither DivX or the codecs from mainconcept appear in Compressor. Reinstalled everything but had no luck...
Can someone acknowledge that the DivX and Mainconcept codec ( http://www.mainconcept.com/products/apps-plug-ins/plug-ins-for-mac/movieexport.h tml ) are compatible with Final Cut Pro X?
