Mac OS X 10.6.8 & outdated browser Safari 5.1.10 help

I keep getting message browser out of date and many websites not working correctly.  Software update says my software is up to date.  Please can someone advise what to do, when searching net I have found there are later versions of Safari but not sure if compible to 10.6.8 or what to do next.  Appreciate some advice please.

Which Mac Pro sub-model do you have? the first two models (MacPro1,1 and MacPro2,1) cannot be upgraded past OS 10.7.5.
You can get the sub-model code for your MP by clicking on the Apple menu and, while the menu is displayed, pressing the OPTION key. The first item, "About this Mac." will change to "System Profiler." Launch it.
In Profiler's opening screen the main pane is "Hardware Overview" and that includes the needed code as "Model Identifier." The example below is from an iMac but the location of the code is the same:
If we know that code, we can better advise you on an upgrade path.

Hmmm...  So you upgraded Firefox and now neither Firefox or Safari will work?  Very weird.  I have no idea what might have gone wrong.  That said, when things start acting wierd, I always try a bit of maintenance first.  About 95% of the time, I luck out and it works.
I use the free program Onyx.  I run all the clean up routines.  Then I boot to the recovery partition (Lion) or the OS X Install Disc and repair permissions and verify/repair the hard disk.
    Hope this helps.

  • Chrome on Mac, Reader X, PDFs not opening in browser

I've found lots of comments on problems with Adobe's Reader in various browsers in Windows.  However, I am thinking of transitioning to Chrome on my Mac, but I can't get Chrome to display PDFs in the browser using Adobe's plugin.  In fact, the plugin does not appear at all in the about:plugin list in Chrome.  I'm searching Chrome forums as well, but thought I'd ask here if anyone had heard of such a thing, and if they had workarounds.
    Thanks,
    Mark

Currently Chrome is not supported in Adobe PDF Plug-In for browsers in Mac. You can view pdfs in Browser window for Safari Browser only in Mac. If you open pdf file in Chrome browser, it will download the file for you to open this through Adobe Reader.
    Thanks,

    Use Shift+Delete on Mac.
*Click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop down list
*Highlight an entry in the drop down list

  • On a Mac, how do you export/download the browsing history (not bookmarks)? Thank you!

On a Mac, how do you export/download the browsing history (not bookmarks)? Thank you!

You can't export the History in Firefox. It is possible to copy History items and paste them to a Bookmarks Folder and export the Bookmarks to an HTML or paste the history items to an HTML editor.

  • Hi guys. Just a quick question. My wife has a Mac Book Pro and when she is browsing the web she can use a two fingered gesture to go back to her previous page (by swiping from right to left). Is there any way to set that up on my iPad Mini. Many thanks.

Not in the Safari browser she can't. That is not supported on the iPad. There are other mobile browsers that do have that functionality - one is iCab Mobile.

  • Outdated Browser Detected, Update Internet Explorer Warning

    Hello,
I still got the Outdated Browser message in Safari and Firefox and any browser, even in MY IPHONE 5! :S I can't access to webpages like Facebook, google, youtube, yahoo, because I got this "warning message" :S
    I've tried:
    1) Reset Safari
    2) Clear Cookies
    3) Run Avira, ClamXav, Bitdefender
    4) Dissable Java
    5) Stop all the extension
    6) I tried to changed the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
    7) Uninstall Firefox
    But problem still not solve..
Somebody solved this problem? Any other ways that I can try? thanks

This almost has to be a corrupt local network caused by your router being hacked.
Please list the make and model of your router and whether you purchased it or rent it from your ISP. Many routers have been hacked remotely either because they still have a well known default loginID & password or because the firmware contains a vulnerable back-door. You need to make sure that such firmware is updated and if necessary WAN configuration is disabled (many ISP's don't allow that).
If you know how to log on, check the DNS settings, otherwise come back here with the above info and perhaps we can try to walk you through it.

  • BROWSER TROUBLE . . PLEASE HELP

I have a complicated problem, so hope someone can help. But have to warn you in advance that because it is complicated, you're going to need a little patience to wade thru the facts:
    1) Safari is my primary browser, but there are a couple of instances in it does not work well for me. e.g., While I can browse thru eBay listings, it's been totally useless to me the few times I've tried to list items for sale myself. It's fine for filling in "the blanks" that apply to everyone, but when it comes to describing specific items, not only are the formatting tools unavailable to Safari, but the description requires the use of HTML, which I do not know.
    2) The only way I could do that was by switching to FireFox, which I downloaded to my iMac. Although I don't think it allowed the full range of formatting tools, at least I could input data and switch between half a dozen fonts and reasonably full spectrum of colors.
    3) Since yesterday, all that changed. Initially, it was just one of the drop-down menus that did not function properly, but minutes later, when I tried to log in again, it did not recognize my password (although it worked if I logged in from Safari . . . or even an old version of IE on my spare Mac). After that, it insisted FF was not accepting cookies. No matter how many times I cleared the cache and cookies, and verified that "accept cookies" was on, it insisted I was wrong.
IN all I probably spent close to 4 hours communicating with eBay's Live Help reps, each of whom . . . after thumbing thru their manuals and occasionally speaking their tech team, returned to say the problem must be with my Mac and that I needed to take it in for service.
Meanwhile, while groping for an answer myself, I found over 20 alerts and messages in FF's Error Console — all referring to eBay's site. Thinking their tech team might find a clue in them, I offered several times to forward them, but was turned down each time. Instead, they advised that I try IE.
    4) Having heard that IE is fraught with viruses and spyware, I had been avoiding that for months, but finally gave in and tried to download it. But according to the download site, MS had stopped supporting IE for Macs several years ago, when Apple switched to Safari.
    5) Recalling that my old Mac already had IE on it, I gave it a try, but discovered it relied on HTML for descriptions, too.
    6) My last hope was Netscape, which lo and behold does work. Just one problem: according to their website, they will officially stop supporting the program tomorrow (2-01-08)!
    So I have 2 questions:
    1) Does anyone have any ideas on how I can restore FF?
Even if including the error console alerts would be helpful, I can't do that anymore because they disappeared when I deleted the cache, cookies and personal data. But as I recall they all referred to being unable to read the parameters for height and width (whatever that means). I don't recall anything about the "original" final warnings, and their are only two up now (no alerts). Most recent one says: ""Error: ebay is not defined
    Source File: https://secureinclude.ebaystatic.com/js/e547/uk/features/signin/signinfootere5472uk.js
    Line: 28".
(And yes, I was trying to list something on eBay's UK site.)
Question #2: Is there any other free, downloadable browser that does not require HTML for user input?
Sorry for taking up so much space and time, but I figured you probably would be asking me for some of the info anyway.
I consider myself lucky (and pat myself on my back each time my husband complains about the problems his PC gives him) because in general, every one of the Macs I've owned over the years has made me look like a pro, by comparison. But when I have run into problems I could not solve on my own, I've always been able to count on these discussion groups for a solution. Sure hope you can come thru for me again today.

    Hi C S!
As you posted in another Thread, that you can't recall how to Post a New Topic, here is the scoop!
If you have a question, or suggestion, about using Discussions, from this page Feedback about Discussions, click on Post New Topic. This is where you mistakenly posted this Topic.
If you have a Technical question about Apple Hardware, Programs, Services, Technology, Software, Applications, Products, etc, from this page Discussions - Forum Home, select an appropriate Category from one of the sixteen divisions.
For example, under Mac OS X Related Software, choose the Category Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger.
On the page that opens, select a Forum, such as Installation & Setup, or Using Mac OS X Tiger, for example.
Most Category pages, have numerous Forums within them.
But some may have only one, two, or three.
For example the Safari Category page has four choices listed under Forum / Category, but only two of them, are Forums:
Safari 3 Public Beta for Windows
    Safari for Mac Support forum.
And the Apple Remote Desktop Category, has only one Apple Remote Desktop Forum.
On Forum pages, there is an option to Post New Topic.
More info here How Is Discussions Content Organized.
It can be confusing, but explore the different areas, and you will acquire a better understanding of the hierarchy.
It isn't necessary to repost this Topic, as I have requested that a Host move the Thread, to an appropriate Forum.

  • Filters show in edge, not showing in preview in browser ( safari)

I am doing a lynda .com tutorial edge animate cc. "animating filters" everything is working fine untill i "preview in browser" then it is just the original static graphic with nothing.  I default to Safari....., I have tried to just do the same thing as a new file with my own png....same thing nothing in preview..... i have even tried to isolate each filter and preview. HELP!

    Hi, Stac4-
Which version of Safari are you using?  If you're on Windows, Safari was not updated past 5.x, which does not support CSS Filters.  If you're on Mac, you should ensure that you're using Safari 6.x+.

  • "You are using a browser (SAFARI 4.0.4) that is no longer supported"

I have a iMac (20-inch, Early 2009). I am currently running Yosemite OS X 10.10.2, and my Safari is the Version 8.0.4 (10600.4.10.7).  My question is this, when I log into various secure accounts I get the following message "You are using a browser (SAFARI 4.0.4) that is no longer supported by its vendor.  Beginning in October 2014, PenFed will no longer support this browser version.  You are strongly encouraged to update your browser to ensure your data is protected while using the Internet."
Since the Lion release. all my updates have been on line through apple.  Any thoughts and advice?
    Thanks
    <Re-Titled By Host>

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

It sounds that you are running the same iCloud account with two phones.  I recommend you to create a different iCloud account and you should be all set.
