Mac OS X 10.6.8 upgrade compatability to Mac OS X 10.9.1 I am thinking of upgrading my Mac to OS X 10.9.1 Maverick and I want to know first if Adobe CS5 Creative suite has any problems with this upgrade?

Feeling a bit left out in 2 years since I bought my Mac Pro with no real hardware upgrades for my Mac Pro.
Can anyone comment on what they've done to keep their Mac Pro updated with the latest?
- Thunderbolt. I was surprised this wasn't in the updated 2012 Mac Pro. Has anyone heard of any third party thunderbolt cards? I've gone ahead and purchased a Thunderbolt hard drive for my Mac Book Air that also has a FireWire 800 port. I'm planning on using Apple's Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter (intended for MBA and MBP laptops) in reverse and use the adapter on the Thunderbolt hard drive to connect it to my Mac Pro tower's FireWire 800 port. At least this way when Thunderbolt does arrive for us I can just stop using the adapter. - USB 3.0. Has anyone found a good reliable USB 3.0 card for the Mac Pro? Again I was surprised Apple left this out of the 2012 refresh. - Display card. Anyone have recommendations on a better display card than the default one Apple shipped? Apple's original ATi Radeon HD 5770 works like crap with HDMI (mini display port or DVI), especially to my new Samsung 27" HDMI monitor. I'd love to get a new Apple Thunderbolt Display and refuse to buy the antiquated Apple Cinema Display. Seeing Apple's new Mac Mini with both HDMI and Thunderbolt gives me hope, but the Intel HD Graphics 4000 chipset seems pathetic. I did like that Apple gave the new iMac a NVIDIA Kepler GPU so maybe there is hope for the Mac Pro yet.
- Anyone find anything useful to put in the extra optical drive slot? The dream of a BlueRay recorder with Lightscribe support and Mac drivers seems long dead. I'd love to see some innovation like a removable SSD drive bay or something better than the coffee cup holder it has become.
Ramblings on what has and hasn't been working for me...
If there are Mac Pro users who like to work in the dark I would highly recommend the Moshi Luna backlighted keyboard. It works great and allows me to video edit without having to strain my eyes with uncessary room lights in order to see the keyboard. It sure beats the USB powered LED I was using to shine a light on Apple's extended keyboard! I still have to switch from Apple's Magic Trackpad to Magic Mouse when I bootcamp to Windows 7 (the trackpad drivers are not robust enough under Windows unless someone has found a solution).
I also ran into a horrific issue with Paragon's HFS+ Win 7 drivers hosing my Mac drives when I tried to use Sony's PMB software to copy HD movies to my Mac drives (NEVER AGAIN).
Any thoughts you have I'd love to hear!Asus makes a card but it only works with certain motherboards made by them. Doesn't exactly have to be installed 'at the factory' but could be interpreted as such.
Until I start seeing PCIe graphics cards that support Thunderbolt either directly with a Thunderbolt connector on the card or an internal Display Port to Thunderbolt connector I'm not sure I would want a display that connects only with Thunderbolt.
HDMI and Display Port is well tested technology. Many displays are available.
Limited (i.e. none to my knowledge) options at this time for discreet graphics cards that support Thunderbolt. So either you use either the Intel integrated graphics chipset (low performance) for video or a non-Thunderbolt display with a discreet graphics card.
If you daisy chain devices you have to share the bandwidth much like you do with Firewire.
Thunderbolt is great for laptops a small footprint computers because it extends the PCIe architecture outside of the computer giving you the option of using higher data capacities associated with PCIe. But since Mac Pros already have four PCIe slots why would you want to use up 4 PCIe lanes for a dedicated interface that is still in it's infancy? -
Upgrading ram on Mac mini server - different?
I plan to buy a mini server 2011 and upgrade it myself to 8GB.
Is there any reason why some sellers on eBay sates DDR3 specs for a mac mini 2011 specifically for a i5 or i7 ??.... Aren't the specs provided for ram upgrade for my base model the same for the mac server ? I'm asking since I want to order it even before I get the mini server...

You don't use the iTunes Store for your computer. You use the App Store. But to do so you must upgrade your computer to 10.6.8 provided you have an Intel model.

2007 Mac Pro (10.6.8) cannot upgrade to Yosemite?
Hi everyone. first time posting. I've just tried to upgrade my Late 2007 Mac Pro desktop to Yosemite (from Snow Leopard 10.6.8) and got this message:
"This version of OS X 10.10 cannot be installed on this computer."
I dug a bit deeper.... and found this:

So, my question is then how can I upgrade the OS to a late 2007 make and model of Mac Pro? Is there a middle step to upgrade like there was with snow leopard? A quick google search did not turn up much. I've got enough RAM, HDD space, etc. This is the only sticking point.
Is this year model stuck with snow leopard?

It would help to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard.
The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion.
You can upgrade from 10.4 straight to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.4 should run under10.6. See this list for compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/

A retail 10.5 Leopard disk will run you around $200
The Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD should still be available at this time from Apple for $20. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list. The App Store which is required to download 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion is part of the 10.6.6 update.
If you wait to long and they no longer have any in stock you will have to buy it from eBay or Apple resellers that still have stock. But you will have to pay a premium since the DVDs are no longer being made. Snow Leopard DVDs are already up to $100 on Amazon.

I am working in a small media business office with 2 Mac Pros and a Powermac G5
One Mac Pro is newer and is currently on OSX Leopard
The other Mac Pro (a 2007/Jan2008 model) and the Powermac G5 are on OSX Tiger
Now the problem is likely a common one, I increasingly am finding i cant install or run anything as they are no longer compatible.
What are my options?
I looked at the latest OSX (Snow Leopard) and the compatibility is: Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) which i assume means the new one started after the last one ended in Jan 2008... whcih appears to rule out an upgrade for both the older macs.
so.... im guess im hoping somone is going to tell me that i dont need to buy new macs, because they are good powerful macs which arent that old...
Whats my options?You should be able to run Snow Leopard on them, but Snow Leopard isn't the latest OS X. Mountain Lion is the current one and will not run on your Mac Pros. I'm pretty certain Lion will work on them, but I'm not sure that would be useful to you.
If your Macs are that old, I would imagine you also have PowerPC software which will not run on Lion or later. PowerPC is the chip that is in the Power Mac G5. In 2006, Apple switched to using Intel chips and has been slowly eliminating PowerPC code from the OS. In the interim, the OS supported what were called Universal applications that would run on either PowerPC or Intel Macs. Snow Leopard was the first big step towards eliminating PowerPC, but it still has an emulator that will let it run the legacy PowerPC-only code.
Given the hardware you have, I would say Snow Leopard would be as far as you want to upgrade until you are ready to invest in new hardware and new software. If you are running Tiger, do you run anything in Classic mode?
Classic refers to the old OS prior to OS X. Those won't work in Snow Leopard.
The Power Mac G5 can only go as far as Leopard (10.5).

You can purchase Snow Leopard on the Apple Store website, but I have no idea where you might get copies of Leopard for the PowerMac G5. You might try calling Apple to see if you can still purchase that. I don't think the installer that cam with the Mac Pro would work on that PowerMac G5. -
I have been using a Lightroom 5 including recent upgrades on my Mac Pro laptop for the past 1 year. This was purchased as an upgrade from Lightroom 4 for which I have a serial number. Today I purchased a new Macbook pro and loaded my Lightroom 5 however it is asking for my serial number which I have misplaced. I am unable to trace my serial number anywhere. I have even checked my adobe membership to locate my serial number but it does not seem to have any record which is strange as I have been using this software for over a year now and the previous versions since 2009. Could someone help me in my predicament.

I have a G5 mac using ver 10.4.11 and a newer mac using ver 10.8.4 these are networked. using the new mac i looked up my my photo on the old mac. It then said you need to upgrade your library which it did. Now the old mac can not open the photos and say that I need to upgrade my I photo to a newer version. The old mac has no more support from apple in software update so I am not sure where I should go from here. can I use new soft ware with the old mac
The other part of the upgrade message was a warning that once you upgraded you would no longer be able to open the library with the old version which is exaclty what you did and what happened when you choose to continue
The iphoto library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iphoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library. Cancel or upgrade.
So now your choices are to not use iPhoto with the previous version using it onky with the newer version, restore your backup from before you did this upgrade or purchase iPhoto Library Manager and use it to rebuild the library using the older version of iPhoto (instructions are on their web site) thereby downgrading it (without projects)

I have a IMac G5 A1058 that was running Mac OS 10.3.8 I upgraded to 10.4
I have a IMac G5 A1058 that was running Mac OS 10.3.8 I upgraded to 10.4, shortly after upgrading the system would no longer boot so I booted from the 10.4 Tiger upgrade disk from which I had upgraded and disk utility found errors on the HD file system that it said could not be repaired. I removed the HD from the system and connected it to my other IMac G5 A1312and ran disk utility and found the same errros. I re partitioned the HD put it back into the G5 and atempted to reinstall the OS. I keep getting a grey screen with a circle and a line through it.It does this with OS 10.2 and 10.3 when I tried 10.4 tiger upgrade it says it need their to be a system all ready installed. My Q's is do I need Mac OS 10.3.8 disks since that is the system that this computer was released with?
Any idea why it will not let me install 10.3 and work my way up?

Since I upgraded to 10.9.5, my macbook no longer recognizes my external hard drive. How do I fix this? External hard drive is a 1TB Toshiba formatted for mac. Worked fine until latest upgrade.
Solved the problem by dumping my external HD onto another computer. Re-formatting and re-installing the data. Not what I wanted to do but it solved the problem.
