Mac OS X (10.6) - deleted applications not staying in trash

HI guys,
hoping you can help me out with something. I've been having a bit of a clear-out of my Applications folder and for some reason when I try to drag an application to the recycle bin (for example Google Earth)it disappears for a second and then just reappears in my app folder!
Any ideas? Thanks!

If you see deny delete, then you need to change the ACLs. If you're not the owner, then deleting them should bring up an authorization window. Those things are described in the document that pops up when you enter this in the Terminal and hit the return key:
**man chmod**
If this is beyond your ken, give up the clear out routine.
BTW, there are only accounts on a Mac. Profiles are for graphic thingys.

Restart the computer in safe mode. Certain caches maintained by the system will be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to start up than normal.
When the login screen appears, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.

  • My Mac mini with 10.6.8 will not stay asleep.

My Mac mini with 10.6.8 will not stay asleep when I click sleep or use the key command. It wakes up immediately. But when I leave it go to sleep on it's own (Energy Saver) it stays asleep. I've set it at approx. 8min. Is their any fix so it will stay asleep from the comand?
Thanks for the suggestion. Didn't figure out what the probelm was, butin disconnecting every thiing and putting it bck it,s working now.

Just a suggestion: In System Preferences, in Energy Saver, under the Power Adapter tab, if "wake for network access" is checked try unchecking it. Probably isn't what the problem is, but worth a try.

  • Deleting applications not in applications folder

I have download a small program called TVU player and wish to delete it but it is not in the applications folder where I could simply drag it to the trash but it seems spread around. It seems to be mostly in User/shared/TVU networks. How can I safely delete it?

According to the package, it installs in a tvutuneworks folder in the Applications folder and a webplugin in the /Library/Internet Plug-ins folder. There is also a library added to support tcl in sqlite, but you can leave that alone.
If you say the tvutuneworks folder was in your Shared folder, that is likely because you chose the Shared folder as the install location.

  • Mac 10.5.8 browsers crashing – applications not responding

    Hello,
I'm having big problems with my Mac 10.5.8. I tried verifying the disk on Disk Utliity but no errors showed up.
Basically, my browsers (Safari, Firefox, Google Chrome) crash as soon as they are opened. Some other application stop responding as I'm using them and I have to force quit. The computer as a whole is very very slow to respond.
If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it. I need this computer for work.
    Thank you!

I am having the same problem. It's been happening for several months. Firefox, Safari and Chrome all crash. I've avoided updating them and in fact went back a couple versions in Firefox, but no change. I can be working on Firefox for an hour or for 30 seconds. Either way, it just crashes. I can immediately restart it, and it will work for an hour or 30 seconds.
No visible pattern, and it is not website specific.
    I am running a MacBook with 10.5.8 2.1 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 667 MHz
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Deleted Files Not Retained in Trash

For some reason beginning today, when I move a file to the trash a pop-up window appears stating that the file will be permanently deleted and cannot be undone. Then when I answer affirmatively, the file is gone. It is not retained in the trash. How do I undo this?

Click on the item in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon and verify that you are able to write to this folder in the Ownership & Permissions section of the Get Info window, and that it isn't locked; if it is already set this way and you get that error, open the Terminal in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run the following:
    mkdir ~/.Trash
If you get a message stating that the folder exists, run the following:
    sudo chown $UID ~/.Trash
    chmod u+rwx ~/.Trash
The first command in the second set will prompt you for your administrator password; nothing will appear in the Terminal window while it is being typed. In either case, click on the Finder icon in the Dock with the Control and Option keys pressed, and relaunch it.

  • Delete application list

Anybody know how to delete application lists using the APEX API?
For my application I need the ability to generate pages and navigation lists using the APEX API.
I know there are the functions wwv_flow_api.create_list and wwv_flow_api.create_list_item
to build a list but I can't seem to find any similar functions to remove them in the first place.
I can access the tables they are stored in directly and delete them from there but then I need
to specify the table owner (in my case FLOWS_030100) as there are no public synonyms or
    key-preserved views on those tables.

    >
Let's see some things about the APEX API, from the official Oracle docs:
"The APEX_UI_DEFAULT_UPDATE package provides procedures to access user interface defaults from within SQL Developer or SQL*Plus.
You can use this package to set the user interface defaults associated with a table within a schema. The package must be called from within the schema that owns the table you are updating.
So, after all, we are allowed to use the Oracle API!We do provide some API's that are documented / supported and safe to use by developers, and the APEX_UI_DEFAULT_UPDATE package you mention (although it bears no relevance to this discussion) is a package that contains API's that we support. This package allows the developer to update UI Default information (not actual components eg lists), so to re-iterate, there is no supported API for the purpose of deleting an application list or list item. For a full list of supported API's take a look at the documentation:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10513_01/doc/apirefs.310/e12855/toc.htm

For example, I have an enviroment that automaticly udpates the aplications (let's say I have 1000) to their lastest version. I will use a batch, of course, wich sould delete the applications and then import them all over again. Hmm, so, you would say that this is possible only from the GUI? Maybe one of you, gentlemen, will care to do this manually every night? I didn't think so ...
So I ask again, maybe someone will answer me correctly: is there a procedure/function in the public APEX API to delete an application? Or a script of somesort that does this?
This again bears no relevance to this thread. You are now talking about deleting applications, not deleting lists within applications. I would suggest starting a new thread for your new question.
A few points to get you started:
    - An application export is just sql script which you can run outside of the APEX UI. See Scott's post here with details:
    Import application manually
    - As Scott says, if your importing applications in this way, you'll need to make sure the workspace ID of the target workspace is the same as the workspace that you exported the application from. (Easiest way to do this is by exporting the workspace from the source and importing it to the target).
    - If you import an application that has the same ID as one which already exists in a workspace, then this will overwrite it anyway, so you don't need to actually delete anything.

My mac mac book pro w retina display will not stay asleep when I close the lid or put it to sleep.
I put the computer in my bag and when I open it again the machine is so hot I can almost not touch it.
I am affraid that the hardware is allready fried.
Also when I press a key to restart after it has been idle for a few minutes it often takes up to a minute to wake back up.
    This machine is bran new..
    What should I do?

    Try a SMC reset:

If no success, then use your warranty and bring it in to the nearest Apple repair facility for rectifying this problem.
    Ciao.

I have the same problem, they never told me that, just that the newest version of Java "locks" up streaming quotes.

  • Impossible to delete applications on Mac OS X

I'm having frustrating issues with trying to delete applications from my MacBook.
First of all, where is the Applications folder suppose to be stored on the Mac? I find my apps folder located in "My Computer" along with Systems, Library and Users.
When I drag an app icon into the trash can it gets removed but reappears within a few seconds. I then purchased two applications that claim they "zap" apps complete from your Mac: AppZapper and CleanMyMac. When I use both those apps, the actual application icons disappear for a few seconds and then reappear back where they were in full working order. I get all the trashing action sounds but then the applications stubbornly reappears.
It is driving me crazy why I can not delete apps from my Mac. Are some permissions messed up?

Yes and it shouldn't be touched or re-arranged in any way. Other than to install or uninstall apps

It sounds like what you are dragging to the trash may be aliases. Any item in your Dock or Sidebar of Finder is only and alias.

  • Two part question 1) what happens if you  sign into messages beta on os x lion 10.7.5 after it expired? does the whole application not work or just imessage? 2) does installing messages beta on os x lion 10.7.5  delete ichat?

    Two part question
    1) what happens if you  sign into messages beta on os x lion 10.7.5 after it expired? does the whole application not work or just imessage? can you stil use AIM, jabbar, google talk, or yahoo?  if you open messages beta does it immediately tell you that messages beta expired?
    2) does installing messages beta on os x lion 10.7.5  delete ichat or just transform ichat into messages beta giving the illusion that ichat is deleted?

    Hi,
It was never completely clear whether it was just hidden or whether Apple ran a download page for iChat 6.
As the Download for Messages Beta was separate and "Deleted" iChat it would seem it would be another download for iChat 6.
iMessages will not function as it is only an Account type within Messages and iChat 6 does not have it.
Therefore messages on the iPhone will not sync to the Mac. (until you get Mountain Lion and Messages in that OS X version).
Mountain Lion and it's full version of Messages will not sync the iMessages that have happened in between the 14th December 2012  (end date of Messages beta) and the Install of Mountain Lion if you decide on that route.

Mac 10.7 failed - upgraded to Mac 10.9, CS 5.1 did not transfer from external HD. How do I reinstall - do I delete what I coped from external HD, then reinstall from disks?

Adobe applications should be installed, not transferred.  If yoiu have the disks then yes, use them.  IF you do not you can download from:

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Beta 4 ver 6 installed on Mac Snow Leopard 10.6.4 will not run, will not delete, cannot reinstall any other version of mozilla, also mozilla help is useless and too confusing, is there not just a simple email address to ask for help?

Firefox tries to run, mac says name too long. It will run only when mounted but will not run from Applications. It refuses to delete and stays in trash, must use combinations of DropNuke2 and Trash to get it to delete I think! Then when trying to put any other version of Firefox in Applications, Finder states name already exists then refuses to move the Firefox application to APplications! Never had problems with Firefox until installed the stupid beta 4 ver 6!

It turns out that there's something wrong about permissions.
    Here's the fix:
    (1) log in as the +root user+
    (2) type +chown -R Michael:staff ~Michael+
    (3) log out the +root user+
    (4) log in your account
    (5) done!
Hope this thread will help those who encounter the same problem as me!

There is a problem in updating iphoto and iMovie, read a response here from a certain Dahveed if I'm not wrong to try this, however I'm a first time mac user, how do you delete this ... /Mac HD/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/adoption.plist

It says 'To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it.'
However I only have one account. I've tried to sign out and in several times. But it doesn't work. I do remember changing my password recently. Secondly I'd like to add that I got this macbook air 3 days ago. I'm a first time mac user. It had three updates initially. Mountain lion 10.8.2, iphoto and the imovie. I updated the mountain lion, thinking I'd get the iphoto and imovie done later. However now this problem has come up. Thanks for responding. Hoping to hear from you soon again regarding this.
