Mac OS X (10.7.5) how to upgrade to newer OS X

Hi,
I have a Mac Book Pro Rretina with OS 10.7.5 (Lion) and I need to Upgrade the OS becouse I have to install one new application that needs at list the OS 10.8 or 10.9.
What I need to know is; what I have to do before doing the upgrade beside doing a backup of all my Files?
Can I just do one upgrade from OS X 10.7.5 to OS X10.8 or OS X10.9 or I need to find the Original OS X10.8 or OS X10.9 packages to download them and in the case where can I find these old 2 OS full software packages to download?
It is true and it is possible end save at this point for me to upgrade directly to OS Yosemite (compatibility with different applications)?

I can not find it in the app. store. . . .and at this point I am just finding comments about big problems with Yosemite and since I need all my apps working (Photoshop. lightroom, perfect portraits, On1 and so on) I am realy reluctant to install it directly . . . .I would prefer to have a newer version than my OSX 10.7.5 . . . .like Mountain Lion or Mawerik before . . . . .so I am sure that they should work with all my apps. . . .don't you think it would be a good strategie to do so?

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Any in place upgrade is ever simple. Even some clean install have problem.Getting all the right drivers for machine specific module is also key. Is Lenovo going to package a set of tested drivers to setup current models to factory built spec's or are we left to figure it out on our own? I don't know at this time if a Bood CD for image recovery would work under the existing UFIE configuration either. I received no error message. The application was just trying to find applications unsuccessfully.
I am using MAC OS 10.10.1
I tried to uninstall the application but it seems that a kind of deamon is still installed thus providing me to reinstall properly. Do you know where are the elements to remove in order to get my machine just like before ?
Otherwise I would have to reinstall everything and this would be a pain.

I have an alias of one of my external hard drives in my trash. When I click on "show original" all my external H D 's and my Mac hard drive show up. How do I delete this icon from the trash without loosing all my files?

I have an alias of one of my external hard drives in my trash. When I tried to delete it, it showed that I was deleting 80,000 files and counting. I stopped the delete process and when I clicked on "show original" all my external H.D.'s and my Mac hard drive show up. How do I delete this alias from the trash without loosing all my files? When I tried to drag it back to the desk top, it just made a duplicate and remained in the trash. When I turned off the external H.D., the trash was then empty. Tried rebooting the computer and then turning the external hard drive back on and the alias shows up in the trash again. Much help appreciated.

In Finder's Menu, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes". (no quotes)
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1 or 2 if there are no real files in them, and reboot.

You would need to use one Apple ID for purchases in order to get them across all of your devices and computer. If you want you can use one Apple ID for purchases and the other one to sync personal data. The article below will explain further.

A year ago my MAC just up and died.I have all the music that was on that mac on my iphone.
We couldn't buy a new mac, so we started using an old pc. My kids built a large itunes library on that computer which now has died.
We have another new pc. How do we combine all the music on 1 iphone (last syched for music on a mac) and 3 ipods (last synch on a different pc) onto this new computer?
When I want to sync,it wants to erase what is on my phone!

Apps are 'registered' to a particular account so if they won't transfer this is suggestive of them being downloaded to the phone from another account.
If you are 100% sure they were bought on the relevant account active on iTunes and the iPhone (check in the account purchase history) then you can download them again for free.
If you get charged again, then its fairly certain that they were not bought on that account.

You have to add another email address on one of the two devices that you can use as the "You can be reached for FaceTime at" contact address and then remove/uncheck the Apple ID email address as the contact address on that device. The way you are currently setup is like to trying to call yourself on your on phone - from your own phone.
Using the iPad as the example go to Settings>FaceTime>You can be reached for FaceTime at>Add another email address. Then add a working email address in the next window. Apple will verify the email. Go to the inbox of that email account, read and respond to Apple's email in order to complete the verification process.
Go back to Settings>FaceTime>Uncheck the Apple ID email address and make sure that the new email address is checked/selected (you will see it being verified again) and that new email address will be your contact address for the iPad.

wjosten is spot on. If you really want iCloud, then you will need to acquire a new or second hand MBP that can run Lion.
