Mac OS X 10.8.3 causes frequent Crash/Reboot
My 2012 Macbooc Pro began to restart frequently after I have upgraded to Mac OS X 10.8.3. Everyday it's getting rebooted twice or thrice after getting frozen/unresponsive for few seconds.
Is anybody else also facing the problem?

Video choppy and causes frequent hard crashes - flash player issue?
Hi there I recently upgraded to 10.6.8 as my old Mac was running slowly. Since the upgrade video playback has been significantly worse - videos freeze, jump and the sound gets out of sync. This also seems to cause frequent hard crashes of the Mac (also occured during a Skype call). I've tried to uninstall and reload an older version of Flash Player but it doesn't seem to have any effect, neither did installing the click to flash extension. Any ideas on how to resolve this? I'll try and run a youtube video to get an eror report from the next crash. Hope you can help!
Hi Don
Chrome was just the same unfortunately. I've put the question in the software folder here, including the error report:

A have new problem that has appeared in my Mac Mail. When I type a frequently used email into the 'To: line' it populates the correct name but with 8 different email addresses not associated with that name. I have gone to the window pop-down to 'previous recipients' and deleted that addressee as well as all the email addresses it is assigning to that name. I have also deleted the account entirely from my address book. I have have run repair permissions and also full defrag in iDefrag. Still the problem persists. Any suggestions?
Hello CarolineLongEaton,
I noticed you posted this problem quite a while ago and wondered if you managed to have it fixed in an alternative way then posting here. It is too bad no one has posted a solution here. I have a similar problem and if you have had yours solved since this occurance how you accomplished it may help me with mine. I am interested to know what you have done about yours.
If you are interested in comparing the problems to see if your solution (if you have found one) might help me also then here is the link to the discussion.
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6116927
If your problem has not been solved then I will comment here again if/when my issue is resolved as it may help you too. My hope here is that we may help each other. To quote you "all ideas gratefuly recieved". I hope your problem was resolved, ernestly for your sake and selfishly for mine also. I wish you and yours a great day!

MAC Elements 12 Organizer frequent crashes
Organizer faces a lot of crashes even when not action on the keyboard or the mouse making it unusable !
I am going to try
You know the following points. When a new photo is added into the library,
usually, the automatic recognition opens the following window:
Suggested, from the database, Organizer provides 3 names which could be
applied (or not) to the selected face.
Sometime there is only one suggestion as below
For both situations, if the suggestion is not a right name, it is possible
to swap it with a new one or another one already in the the database.
That is the nice stage of the process for 4 or 5 inputs (it is not always
the same number of items). After several inputs, Organizer no longer takes
in account name dialed on the keyboard or suggested in both windows as upper
displayed, neither using the left click of the mouse nor the « Enter » key
of the keyboard. It is impossible to enter a name.
And at this step of the issue, for an unknown face, if I want to cancel the
window clicking in the upper right cross, the cancelation becomes
impossible, the window stays on the face.
Solution is to close Organizer and to start it again
But, in case of no automatic window, if we use the Manual recognition tool
window, it always works (enter a name is always possible).
Not easy to explain, I hope I was clear.
Rgds.

So im about to buy a mac pro, I just need help cause im not sure if it's worth paying more for instance, a hi-res screen compared to the stock screen, and will i really miss the .2 ghz and the upgraded video card if I get the 2.0 ghz mbp?

It appears the 15" 2.2 ghz isn't worth spending $400 more for, but you get the 1GB Radeon 6750M that has four times the VRAM than the 15" 2.0Ghz model and about 167% more performance. High settings on all current games with over 50 fps.
If your not into 3D gaming or just light weight, then the 2.0 Ghz (last years performance) will suffice on low-medium settings at about 30 fps.
The 13" is rather poor as it has integrated graphics. 30 fps on only some games.
The high res screen is a excellent choice and the anti-glare is great for viewing just about anywhere.
No messy films to replace at $30-$40 a pop.
A lot of people bring the glossy screens back once they hear about the anti-glare.
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/blogs/2011/05/23/glossy-vs-matte-screens-why-the-pc-indus trys-out-of-touch/
Here's my 17"
In my opinion the extra $400 for another 2-3 years of use out of the computer is worth it.
Quad cores are more than enough for most uses for most people for many years, it's just a slow card is going to make the machine feel slow in rendering graphics in the future. -

Upgrade to lion causes frequent forced quits in adobe software
After recent upgrade to Lion OS I have trouble running Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS 6 Beta. Lightroom 4 frequently crashes upon opening. Photoshop CS 6 is unable to open an image file from Finder, Bridge or Lightroom and also freezes up. iMac no longer recognizes wireess keyboard strokes. Have tried disk utility repairs and various restarts with key strokes to reset but they don't work after a short while. Any suggestions?

Frequent Crashes after upgrading to ML (Macbook Pro 15" 2010)
I have been experiencing numerous, frequent crashes ever since upgrading my computer (Macbook Pro, 15", 2010 model) to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard. The crashes appear to be very random; they don't happen at startup and aren't associated with any particular application or action. For example, I once experienced a crash while opening a file in VLC. After restarting, I was able to use VLC without any problems, and instead experienced a crash when opening a bookmark in Safari (which wasn't a problem earlier). In all cases, the screen turns black for a second and then the computer forcibly restarts.
Below I have pasted the details of the error report that the computer wants to send to Apple. I've had nearly 20 of these since upgrading on Wednesday night, and I don't know if they are all the same. But hopefully someone can help me here; I don't know how to interpret this log in order to pinpoint what is causing the problem. This looks a lot like the "kernel panics" that others have reported, but I just don't know what that means or how to fix it.
Also, I ran Software Update and am currently up-to-date.
Thanks so much,
Anthony

I have a client with a Mid-2010 MacBook Pro. He was having crashes with Lion so I upgraded him to Mountain Lion 10.8.2. The crashes did not go away.
I troubleshooted and with the help of gfxCardStatus noticed that every time his machine went to use the discrete graphcis he got the gray hard crash screen and system had to restart. Back then I tried a beta of 10.8.3 and it didn't help.
I noticed that if I created another user account (profile) it would not crash when the discrete graphics card was called upon.
So, I re-installed the OS (to 10.8.2), created a new profile and manually migrated pictures, documents, keychain, mail, movies, music and re-installed the relevant Applications. Everything was working fine and my client went on a trip to Europe and soon the crashes began again. Then he upgraded to 10.8.3 and the crashes got even more frequent (it seems 10.8.3 puts more applications on the discrete graphics list so it switches even more).
I am wondering what could have caused the crashes to begin. It was before he upgraded to 10.8.3. Some application or something he was using must have changed a setting or corrupted something to cause the crashing to begin. I haven't done this yet, but I'm sure if I create another user account it won't crash on it.
Any ideas where to turn my attention to see what is causing the shift from his working user account to a crash-causing one?
He has iLife, Office 2011, Final Cut Pro X, iPhoto Library Manager, VLC, Audacity, DropBox, FileMaker Pro 11, Flip4Mac Player, Fuze, GotoAssist, Handbrake, Skype, iSkySoft DVD Creator, iSkySoft Video Convertor, Onyx and Skype.
I know there are *MANY* others having problems with the automatic graphics card switching and it seems some are having more problems when gfxCardStatus is installed?

Take a copy of the article with you when you go for service. They need to run a SPECIAL diagnostic to decide whether you have this problem. Do not leave until they run the special diagnostic. The "overnight run" does not detect this problem.
If they confirm you have the problem, they will replace the graphics chip, which is part of the motherboard. be prepared to hand over your Mac for depot repair. (Your backups must be up-to-date). -
Frequent crashing when opening projects
10.5.8, LP 9.0.2, Mac Pro 8-core 6GB RAM
Logic frequently stalls/crashes when opening projects. This happens most often with projects that have lots of sampler instruments (primarily VSL), but some of the time with no samplers at all. The loading window generally hangs on Vienna Instruments with projects that have them, and on Space Designer with projects that don't.
The project this happens most frequently with is an orchestral template I'm creating. It has about 25 instances of Vienna Instruments (totalling 1.34GB worth of samples), a few channel EQs and one instance of Space Designer. Other projects that have caused the crash include about 10 native software instrument plugins, 1 Akoustic Piano and 10-15 native effect plugins. I consulted VSL tech support who said the problem was most likely with Logic. I'm inclined to agree, since the problem happens with and without any Vienna Instruments, and Vienna Ensemble Standalone has no problem loading templates with a lot of samples.
Does anyone have any suggestions to troubleshoot? Has anyone had similar experiences? Thanks.Well, this has happened to me too. To the point where I've lost all the work, because Logic can't open the original project or the "crashed" copy it creates. Happened again with a new project I'm working on, albeit on a much more modest laptop system.
Annoying. Makes me think about switching DAWs...what else can you do if Logic can't be trusted. -
Bought a used 13inch Macbook uni body, looks exactly like the new pro… system came with after market ram and hard drive, I am a new user to the Mac platform.
Issues;
*Slow boot*
- displays white spinning wheel for 1 hour, loads partially then freezes for 15 mins.
*Frequent crashes*
- Crashes randomly … mostly when doing too much … even crashes when only running one of any browser… viewing finder … or searching anything.
*Will not load some utilities*
- cannot load users, disk utility ect
*Won’t reboot*
- wont reboot, just displays background image with not icons … shows mouse, sounds quite.
*First noticed;*
- I first noticed an issue when I saw a update, … walked away during the process’s and noticed the system was stuck (see wont reboot) … decided after some time to hard boot … then system hung for 40 mins in white screen.
*Other information;*
- Luckily enough the used computer came with boot camp, I am a gamer when then system first ‘hung’ in OSX … I could still game ect … but the issue got increasingly worse … made me think it was hardware … but in boot camp I can save, install play half life to my hearts content with zero issues … boots fast ect.
*Solution / question;*
- Fix issue without reinstalling (down time is bad) or reinstall osx… if re-installing OSX … could I backup my existing installed software?
Message was edited by: West Coast Design Co.Everything that is going on with your MacBook makes me think you have a bad ram problem except for bootcamp behaving normally which makes me think it is a hard drive corruption problem, but it could be both.
If you can get it to stay up long enough to run Disk Utility from the utilities folder under applications, I would start there. Run it in repair mode under the first aid mode and it may solve some problems.
If your system is too unstable, you may need to use an external bootable volume or bootable DVD. The original OS X installation disks would be one option and you may have a TechTool Deluxe DVD if the original owner got an Apple Care plan and passed the disks along.
You can boot from an external volume or DVD by setting them as the start up disk in the system preferences under the apple menu if your system is stable enough for that, or can force to boot from the DVD by holding down the C key while you boot.
If you boot from the the installation DVD you could connect an external USB hard drive and install a fully functioning installation of OS X on the external drive. If the system remains unstable when booting from DVD or external hard drive, you have a hardware problem, possibly the RAM if it has been replaced. If you are stable from another boot volume, I would then run Disk Utility, TechToolDeluxe if you have it, and probably Memtest which is available as a free download from the internet.
The RAM could still be the problem as MacBooks are somewhat notorious for acting funny if they have the wrong RAM installed. The unibody MacBook has 2 RAM slots and takes 1066 MHz DDR3 SO-DIMMS. You can select about this mac under the apple menu to get some of this info and then select more info to get the system profiler and select memory to get more details. This model officially supports up to 6GB of RAM (one 2 GB and one 4 GB) but I have been running with 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) with no problems. If the RAM is the wrong speed and is not 1066 or 1067 MHz when listed in the system profiler, or is not fully seated when installed it can cause some funny behavior. -
I have files that are freezing my programs (adobe; after effect and photoshop, as well as maxon cinema 4d). Whenever I try to import ANY file from within the program it doen't even let me select the file I need before freezing. I have moved all files off my desktop and into my dropbox, and it now allows me to import files/search for files on the desktop but NOT dropbox, once I go to dropbox it freezes again. I am assuming there are files within dropbox now that are crashing my programs. The problem is I have a lot of files in there and would like to remove the corrupt ones so that I can use my programs without freezing. Is there a way to find the exact files causing the crash?
This has happened a couple of times and each time I have to move all my files off my desktop, so there must be a type of file doing this, I just don't know what files they are.
Mac Book Pro 15" running OSX 10.9
Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel Iris Pro 1024 MB
ANY help would be greatly appreciated! It is making it really hard to get work done. THANKS!This error sounds to me like you have/had BootCamp Windows installed and then removed, posible ?
If so (and even if not so), try restating your MBA while holding down the alt/option-key until you get to the Boot Selection Screen.
Choose to boot OSX.
Once in OSX go to System Preferences then Startup Volume and set your OSX to be the default.
Hope it helps
