Mac OS X 10.8.3 random red pixel

there's this red pixel the shows up when i'm using chrome or safari (haven't tried other browsers yet). the pixel only turns red when the browser window crosses a certian point on the screen. the pixel also shows up when i open up any program. with certian ones open, the pixel is dimmer and will get brighter depending on the location of the window. i hope this isn't an issure with the screen. i've only had this computer for about 5 days. not sure if this helps but, the location of the red pixel is 875 px from the left and 271 px from the top. thank you so much for you're help! wish i could explain it more clearly lol
i just tried snaping a screen shot for you to see but, the pixel wont show up in the picture. that makes me think it's not a dead/dying pixel. I could be wrong.
here's my computer specss:

  • Random red frames appearing in CS3

I've been using PP CS3 for a few weeks now and I have encountered a strange problem that I didn't see in PP2: random red frames appearing in the project.
Sometimes the red frames are visible when reviewing the project on the timeline (before rendering), and sometimes they show up only after exporting the project to AVI or to flash via Adobe Media Encoder. I'm using MPEG files from Sony hard-drive cameras.
At first I thought it was an issue with my new laptop, but the problem is also occurring on my desktop computer. Both computers have duo-core 2.2 ghz processors and 512mb dedicated memory video cards and 2 mb of system memory.
I am quite disheartened because I feel I wasted nearly $300 on an upgrade to CS3. I have Googled this problem extensively and haven't found a viable solution. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Not counting HD material, my general understanding is that Premiere is designed to work with SD material where each video frame is complete, not the type of file where 1 frame is complete, and several following frames are simply code which describe changes from the preceeding frame (ie-DV AVI Type 2 files... and not the Type 1 files produced by Windows Movie Maker, and certainly not the AVI files using the divX codec)
    Read here to see
Why NOT to try and edit an MPEG
Whatever Premiere does with MPG on the timeline is simply an afterthought... not a design feature (again, this is MY understanding, from reading this forum, and is not based on any inside knowledge of Adobe programming)
If you simply must edit MPG files, you might look at different products
    Edit MPEG with
    Premiere Elements
    or
    WOMBLE
    or direct from DVD with
    Movie Edit Pro
Otherwise, do as suggested and convert the files to DV-AVI Type 2

To get rid of the red box, click the Viewer window to select it, then press Shift+Z.
As Jim pointed out, the red box is to help you navigate when zoomed into the viewer.

  • Line of red pixels

I got a MacBook Pro 15" less than a month ago and today a streak of red pixels appeared in the middle of the screen. Anyone else has had this problem on the new Mac? I have an appointment for next Monday at the Genius Bar, I would like to have some feedback, perhaps is a defectous line of screens?
    Cheers
    PS

I sent it in for repair once already. I don't remember what they did; something with software. Nothing huge, because when I got it back my invisibleSHIELD case was still completely intact. I guess I should just send it in again? Think they'll just give me a new one?

  • RANDOM 'DEAD' PIXELS CONSTANTLY CHANGING ... ?

I first noticed this on starting up my new iMac from the box ...... I thought I had 'hundreds' on random dead pixels .......
It disappeared, so I thought it was jusr 'the screen warming up'
Since then it happens randomly .. some times the pixels move, like when I take a screen shot of them ... I can also take a screen shot of a plain blue screen and as I draw a box to take the screen shot, the random black pixels appear, even though there was non actually there beforehand .....
Often they appear on 'wake from sleep', sometimes like this morning on booting from cold .. but ONLY on new 'white' Mail windows, not the plain blue background of the Mac ..
I guess it must be a video issue ?

Sounds like a hardware issue to me. Since it had this problem right out of the box, you should contact Apple ASAP for service or replacement. (The latter will only be an option, I would bet, if you bought it recently, not if you've been sitting on this problem for a while.)

  • Disturbing red pixel mosaic in dark areas.

In PowerMac G4 MDD with ATI radeon 9800, the LCD display shows red or blue pixels in a places which should be dark.
If there should be black in the video, in the screen, there is some kind of cubical fractal pattern of red pixels in opacity of 15 %.
    Like this:
    http://koti.welho.com/tsuonio1/LCD-DISPLAY-PROBLM.jpg
When the same displays is connected to old B&W G3 black shows out black, and if the display is connected to be a PowerBooks external display, the image is fine.
So my suppose is that the problem is in graphic card...
...any idea what might be the problem and how to fix it?

I have very similar issues with red and green pixels, dots and lines that seem to halo any change from light to darker areas of the screen, often fringing those gradations. It is especially bad in any movie that I play. I have a PMG4 dual 1.25Ghz with an upgraded ati radeon 9600 pc & mac edition card running a dell 30" lcd. I've done all the usual suggested, but I am seeing this online as a widespread ati/30" phenomenon as well on ACD 30" and Dells both. About every report I've seen about this is about an ATI card. The only "cure" is to reduce colors to thousands which I don't like and won't allow me to run iPhoto slideshows etc.
I hope someone has an answer, I have a few days before returning these two items and coming up with a new solution.

  • Turquoise and Red Pixel streaks while browsing

I'm hoping someone can help me with this (thanks X 1000 if you can!)
I've had my Macbook for a little over a year NEVER dropped, always handled with the utmost care.
Recently noticed blotches of red pixel on my desk top (with a dark screen saver) when I browse the internet with a mostly white page I see blotches of turquoise pixels. (THE RED AND TURQUOISE BLOTCHES STREAK WHEN I SCROLL, OR CLICK THE WINDOW AND DRAG IT AROUND THE SCREEN)
I've THOROUGHLY tried to research this on my own - THIS IS NOT A DEAD PIXEL ISSUE -DEAD PIXELS DONT MOVE!!!
It almost seems like a refresh issue, because if I scroll down further, or (click-drag) highlight the effected area it goes away until I scroll again.
    * I ran a hardware check (reboot, and hold down D') and it came back clean...
I'm at wits end and when this laptop was purchased it was close to 3 grand! I dont want to shell out another cent until I know (or at least have a pretty good idea what the issue is)
    MAC GODS PLEASE HELP!!!

NO ONE has any real suggestions to what this could be?? I thought mac users helped each other....
Unfortunately, we aren't magicians. We can only make suggestions based on our personal experience.
For the record, I said: It sounds like your video card is having problems with the RED channel.

  • Screen froze while starting up and red pixels appear

I was watching a YouTube video when my screen froze and started glitching. After a few minutes i shuted it down completely. Now it will not finish starting up and a white screen appears with red pixels on it. What is this and what should i do?

    Welcome Victoria!
iMacs has been in continuous production since 1998 in four broad families based on different hardware configurations. Therefore need more info to effectively help you. Although more details may be needed later, a good place to start is for you to tell us your processor type and you Mac OS version, both easily available by doing "About this Mac..." from your Apple menu at the left end of your menu bar.
Of the two iMac forums, this is for the old one made before 2006. If you have a newer model we can ask the Hosts to move you to the more active forum.

  • Is there a dark-red pixel in the middle of my ipad 2 screen, Apple Staff ignored it with rude manner.

Is there a dark-red pixel in the middle of my ipad 2 screen, I 've just it for 6 days. After that I went the store (Thailand) to turn it, they told me that it's a dead pixel and Apple won't replace it to the new one - there must be more than 3 to claim.  How can I do?
The store guy told me I should go Apple Service Center. The Center's staff kept my ipad and told that replacement depends on Regional office at Singapore.
She also blame me that "Why don't you look for dead pixel before you brought?"
What !!! Dead Pixel is the fault of Apple Factory, but she said like I'm so stupid to brought a dead-pixel ipad.
"If you want me to do something on your case call to Singapore by yourself" she said.
After I called to Singapore, I found myself the staff there treated me so bad and confuse.
    1. The first guy at Singapore said  "Because you 've just brought it for 6 week you can choose between replacement or refund, but leave me your numbers we will call you back."
    2. Shortly, a rude guy called me - said to me about Bright and Dead Pixel - then said "It's not our authority to replace ipad for you, you paid your money for our dealer (Store in Thailand), so you must ask for resposibility from them. "
What !!!!! He treated me like I'm not a customer. Store and Care Center in Thailand told me it ups to Singapore, but Singapore told me not.
Who lied? However, I'm still Apple Customer. Whatever country I brought it, I paid for Apple product. Where are thier responsibilities?
I hope, Apple U.S. is my last resort.

Given that you can return/exchange it for any reason within the 14-day window after you bought it, you shouldn't have any problems.
Do you live near an Apple retail store? That may be your best bet. It certainly worked for me: I ordered mine online and when I noticed an air bubble embedded in the glass, I brought it to my local Apple Store and 15 minutes later walked out with a replacement. No fuss whatsoever.

  • T510 Random Stuck Pixels?

I received my T510 FHD Thinkpad about a month ago and over the last few days it started to display random stuck pixels (always on - white).  I say random because they eventually go away when I open and close windows or reboot the computer.  Mysteriously reappearing later at random (not in the same spots if I recall correctly)???
After doing some internet research, I ran JScreenFix (http://www.jscreenfix.com/) for about an hour on full screen.  The problem persists.
My son suggested this could be a driver issue (supported by the fact that the pixel becomes "unstuck" when shutting down Windows XP and doesn't appear until Windows finishes booting up).  I am using the most recent Nvidia drivers so I'm hoping this is not isolated.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciate.
    Thanks,
    Stephen

    Update
This is apparently an issue exclusive to Windows XP.  I used a separate HD and installed Windows 7 - no temporarily stuck pixels.
Have to assume this is a driver issue.  Hopefully, Lenovo/Nvidia will release a fix soon.
Any other ideas/fixes would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Strange, red, pixelated images

    Hi,
I recently purchased Lightroom 5 and I've been really enjoying it so far.
One issue I've found however is that occasionally Lightroom creates a weird, red pixelated effect on edited images in library module.  I've posted a develop view, and library (loupe) view example below.  It tends to occur on under exposed images that I've used noise reduction on.  Sometimes, this persists in develop module too.
    Develop module: http://i.imgur.com/G7hROKv.jpg
    Library module: http://i.imgur.com/nSmp72T.png
Any ideas about what is causing this or how to fix it?
    FYI, it exports fine.
    Thanks!

    Frank,
Actually, they were all similar enough to be able to crop, lift and stamp, so the viewable versions are all in working order. Problem solved. At this point, I'm just seeing if there are any other answers as far as fixing the Masters? I do not have any known backups of the originals before they were corrupted. The only thing that comes to my mind is to export all of the cropped versions and then to reimport them as Masters, but I really don't know what I would be doing. I mean, I know how to do that, but don't know if doing it somehow diminishes the image quality. The strange thing is, when I export the version, it is almost 4 times the size in MB of the Master (after exporting the Master). I don't fully understand image size as it relates to image quality, but I was always under the impression that the larger the file size, the more data stored and the higher the quality of the image. Therefore, a 5MB JPEG is of higher quality than a 2.3MB JPEG for example. Since the originals were JPEGS, I would assume that by exporting versions of the Master, I would be compressing an already compressed image? I don't really know, so I am not going to do anything about this unless someone can shed some clear light on what it all means, and what the ramifications of these types of actions would be.
