MAC OS X 6.0.7. & Win XP + Office

I just picked up the macbook pro- my first mac. I understand parallel should work nicely with XP (hopefully). So, I picked up XP. I will be transferring (hopefully) files from an old PC running Win 98 (not 98SE) with Office 2000. Should I attempt to move MS Office files into Office running with XP or Office for Mac (I assume the one NOT for virtual PC)? Also, my understanding is that I should load the parallel first and then the XP. Is that right? What are the comparative weaknesses of running Office for Mac v. running XP/Office on the Mac? (I'd rather do most new work in the mac environment, but do need to access all my old stuff from the PC.
Also, I understand that I should be able to export Outlook address/calaendar files into entrouage OK, but may have problem with the emails from office 2000. Is there a good solution for this? Also, what about an older version of Eudora (I think 4.2)?

You can't install Windows unless you install Parallels first.

Running it through Windows/Parallels will be slower.

Hi - I have the exact same model as your MacBook and had a few questions as mine is acting up. I upgraded the ram to 8gb (2x 4GB ram) and ever since then my computer has not been running as smoothly and the start up time is horrendous. Have you encountered this problem? And if so how did you fix? What would you advise me do?
I was thinking of reverting back to the original factory 4GB then rebooting the entire computer. Any suggestions?

I understand that much. On my MAC Mini, if you look above at original post, I CAN see both OS while in the Windows 7 partition or the MAC OS. This is NOT the case on my iMac. Again, when in the MAC OS I can see the windows partion and move information between the two that way. When in the WINDOWS partition, the only one that shows is the Windows OS from my computer or network. The only way you can tell its even a MAC is the bootcamp icon in the bottom right corner of toolbar. Both have same version of MAC OS so both should work same way.. When i double click on my computer, it should show both the Windows drive AND the MAC (as does my mini and another iMac 21.5 that i have). This iMac does not do that - only shows windows.

But still it doesn't work. There are no errors, no popups. We turned on the logging and in the logs, it says a error of -3259. We are stuck and any help will be really appreciated.

I have a customer experiencing exactly the same issue. Their computer is running Windows 7 Pro with Office 2007 SP3. After seemingly exhausting all troubleshooting options, I backed up their data, formatted the hard drive and performed a clean install of
Windows and all their applications. It didn't solve the problem!
What's strange is the customer also has a laptop computer, running the same version of Outlook, and that doesn't experience any problems connecting to Office 365 on the same network.
My next step is to send the customer a new ADSL modem/router to try.
I have another customer on Office 365, also running Outlook 2007, and they also experience issues with emails sitting in the outbox while Outlook displays the status message “Outlook is trying to retrieve data from the Microsoft exchange server outlook.office365.com.”
In this case Outlook doesn't freeze/stop responding, like it does for the first customer I mentioned.

How do I stop Mac Mail from sending an unauthorized "Out off Office" reply to several, not all, of my associates emails? Only happens with me.com mailbox, not Earthlink. Am not getting some important e-mail from brokerage and business associates.

If Earthlink is unaffected it is probably a settimg in me.com. Log into me.com account in a browser such as Safari (will get icloud.com) and select the settings (gear) icon bottom left, and then click on the airplane icon. Make sure vacation setting is unchecked.

I'm running MS Office 2011 on Lion and it runs just fine. No "Full Screen", but it runs just fine. There may have been an update to install (I know there was an iWork one anyway), but even before I installed any updates Office '11 worked just fine.

There is no normal upgrade path, all usual purchases stay in the same platform. So you could upgrade to Acrobat Pro 11 for Windows.
However, there is such a thing as a "crossgrade" to cross platforms. If you had Acrobat Pro 11 for Windows, and contacted Adobe they MIGHT sell a crossgrade. Equally they MIGHT sell you a crossgrade from Acrobat Pro 9 Windows to Acrobat Pro 11 Mac. They will not sell, so far as we hear, a crossgrade from Acrobat Pro 9 Windows to Acrobat Pro 9 Mac; licenses for unsupported versions are never sold.
You might also want to look at volume licensing.

Once you purchase the Mac version from your Friend, you can go ahead and request for a swap platform to Windows.
Make sure your friend does a "Transfer of License" through Adobe. Once the "Transfer of License" is complete, the serial number will be registered under your account and you will be the current Owner of the license. Later, you can go ahead and request for a Swap for your product. To know more about the transfer of license, follow the below URL:

Control a TDS3032b over tcp/ip from LV602 MAC OS9x? It works from Win 2k.

I am attempting to control a Tektronix tdsd3032b osciloscope via tcp/ip (gpib interface is optional) from a Mac OS 9.x running LV 602. Visa has not been able to connect to the instrument whereas the same vi works well from a PC Win 2k with LV 602. Does VISA has limitations on Mac platform?

NI-VISA on Mac OS 8/9 does not support TCPIP, nor will it in the future. However, when LabVIEW releases on Mac OS X, you will find that NI-VISA 3.0 will support TCPIP there. That part of the NI-VISA code base is basically the same as on Win32, so it should work seamlessly.
For Mac OS 8/9, you will need to use GPIB for that instrument. By the way, some Tek scopes also support serial communications, which NI-VISA on Mac OS 8/9 does support. That might be another option for you.

Boot Camp Mac Book Pro Can Boot to Win 8.1 but not Mavericks

My Mac Book Pro Mavericks partition is damaged and I cannot boot to it, I can boot to Windows 8.1 without any issues. Disk repair did not fix the problem, any suggestions? I also tried using Migration Assistant to from my iMac to the Mac Book pro, had no luck there either, since Migration assistant being run on the iMac could not find another Mac.

You can upgrade to Windows 8.1 for free. Just open the Windows Store in Windows 8 and you will see an option to download Windows 8.1 update. The update may take several hours.

Homesharing worked great in the past but my Mac OS 10.6.8 won't allow this operation nor will my MacBook Pro (A610) allow an upgrade to Lion. The Single Sided DVD Burner is not really fuctional anymore in terms of reliable loading and ejecting w/o CC.
My wife has a brand new MacBook Pro but HIPA/Hospital Policies would frown upon a massive data transfer. My occupation forces me to used the Lenovo and I would like all my music available on iTunes on all my media.
I have searched and tried everything. I am not adverse to paying a token amount but I am in no way buying a 128 gb flash drive.
I have a 400 gb hdd created in Leopard Also not sure what format.

PP CC (Mac) not compatible with PP CC (Win)?

I have a Premiere Pro CC project that was saved on Mac. I brought it to my client's place, which also uses CC but on Windows, to show him the project but was unable to open it for edit. The error message was:
"The project was saved in a newer version of premiere pro and cannot be opened in this version."
I'm not sure specifically what minor version of CC the client was using and am aware of CC/CS6 incompatibilities, but this being professional software I can not reasonably expect files to work across different minor versions of CC?
It would be quite ridiculous if otherwise.

adobe updated premiere cs8.1 to a new project version and didn't bother telling anyone. they are treating these updates like an mmo game, rather than a professional work environment. you will need to update to 8.1 or latest version 8.2 to be able to open the project. can update from help menu in premiere or from the adobe creative cloud app.

Can't print member in Mac projector made with MX 2004 Win

I have been using a homemade educational app for years made in D8 for Windows, but need to make it available for the Mac now. I also own 8.5 and MX 2004, but never needed any of the features until now. MX 2004 can create a Mac projector, but I have been having one problem after another with this conversion. I had been using POM lite in D8 WIndows, but it will not work in the MX 2004 Mac projector. After spending hours looking for the free POM lite for Mac, it seems that it now costs $150? For such a basic feature that should be native in Director, I need a solution to print members that does not require an extra. Can some please help me?
There is apparently a way to do it using a Flash object http://dasdeck.de/staff/valentin/lingo/flash_print/, but after spending several days trying to port the applicable code to my app, I could not get it to work. I do not work in Flash although I have tried, so it was a miracle that I got the flash_print as far as I did. If anyone has a working example using just the print member portion or could tell me why I was able to get it to work in author mode but was getting a Director Player Error in the test projector on Windows:

OK, I removed the Flash Agent and Flash Options and the include in projector box is now showing checked. Yes, I am authoring this in Dir MX 2004. I am using the Flash Asset xtra that came in Schmidt's demo. It is newer and the size is different from what I had installed. The Flash Asset in my Dir 2004 installation which is version 10.1 (I seem to have the 10.1 update, but not 10.1.1) is dated 9/9/04 and is 804 KB. The one in the flash_print demo is dated 2/7/06 and is 1560 KB. When I run one of the .dir files from my app with the 9/9/04 Flash Asset I get an error when I click Print. I can't remember the exact error message, but it sounded like something was missed. So, I thought maybe I needed the newer Flash Asset. After, replacing the original Flash Asset with the newer one the error went away and the Print dialog box pops up. When I create the projector - you both are right something is not there. Could it be the .1 update that's needed? Is the Flash Asset in Schmidt's demo Xtras folder not the right one for MX 2004? Could something else be missing?

Mac Pro with Second HD for Win and Mac

Hello Everyone,
I just purchased a new Mac Pro 3.2 Ghz. I have two 500 GB HDs. One is partitioned for Mac OS X and Windows Vista 64. The second HD I want to use as storage for both Mac OS X and Windows and be able to share files. Everyone I talked to says I should format to FAT 32, but there are file size limitations with that format. Is there any way to get the second HD to NTFS format and so that Mac OS X and Windows can read and write to it. Also it would be great if there is a way to unlock my Windows partition on the Mac side so I can write to it. Also are there any good solutions for backing up files using an external RAID with large file formats such as a 1TB or more. If there is anyone who has a similar set up I would welcome any suggestions.

You can use the convert command in Vista, or just delete the FAT partition and create NTFS.
