Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer  -Error

I have a macbook pro with the Snow Leopard system but I wanted to delete everything and reinstall it. I inserted the DVD disk that came with my macbook pro and pressed c .I deleted my Macintosh HD with the disk utility and after restating my mac and trying to install the new system I got an error - A yellow triangle (Install Failed
Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer
the Installer could not copy the neccessary support files . ) the only thing I do is restart which I already did 5 times and I still get this error
I have been looking all over the internet and read everything but nothing worked -HOW CAN I FIX IT ?
Is there any chance that this has to do anything with the fact that I use to have windows which I deleted with boot camp . Before installing it again I tried to make partition to install Windows which for some reason didn't work ?
Thanks

Help us understand what you are about. In your initial post your wrote:

Why? Were you experiencing problems with the installation? Is the HDD in the computer the original drive that came with the computer?
Here is the procedure for formatting:
• With computer shut down insert install disk in optical drive.
• Hit Power button and immediately after chime hold down the "C" key.
• Select language
• Go to the Utilities menu and launch Disk Utility.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
• Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
• Click on Options button
• Select GUID Partition Table
• Click OK
• Select number of partitions in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
(Note 1: One partition is normally preferable for an internal HDD.)
• Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
• Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
• Click Partition/Apply button at bottom of panel.
• Select Erase tab
• Select the sub-volume (indented) under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
• Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
• Click Erase button
• Quit Disk Utility.
Open installer and begin installation process.
If the above step by step directions don't work for you, your HDD may be defective.

You should be able to install Mac OS X 10.7 or later on your 2011 MacBook Pro without issue, if it came with 10.6.3 as your signature suggests.  Mind you, any 2011 MacBook Pro must use the original 10.6 installer disc labelled MacBook Pro if it desires to have 10.6 installed on it.   The retail installer disc will not work on that model, nor will one from another age MacBook Pro, or other model labelled installer.  Also
10.7 came both on USB Flash drive and Mac App Store installer versions.   Both required either 10.6.6 minimum be pre-installed, or no Mac OS X operating system on the drive or partition it was to be installed on.
10.7.1 through 10.7.5 combo could be installed only once 10.7 had been installed.  A combo update is available for installing on top of any version of 10.7.  Otherwise only the preceding version could be updated to the next.
10.8 came only on Mac App Store installer.  It is available only to 10.6.8 and later users.

    Hi all,
my macbook pro became extermily slow for some reason, I rebooted it many times and same problem so I decided to reinstall the Mac OS X lion from the internet.
I tried installing  lion internet recovery, it downloaded it and restarted. I got the "Install Mac OS X" window. then while installing I got the sad message " Install Failed Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer" and the only botton is "restart". Everytime I restart I gor the same message. Now I am trying to start from the harddisk but I does not show when you start the pc, keep clicking the "alt" botton. It only shows "Mac OS X Installer" and "Recovery HD". What Should I do?
    I appreciate your help. Thanks.

    Thanks Baltwo.
I could format it and get the back up from time machine but it is not up to date so I want to leave it at last.
I tried to back it up on external hard drive and got an error, tried CCC for back up and error again.
Just wanted to do an update on the subject. Still trying to get it back.

  • Error: "install failed mac os x could not be installed on your computer"

Wanted to post an error I repeatedly got in case anyone else out there has the same issue. Went to do a snowleopard (10.6) upgrade and clean install on a mac pro (coming from 10.5). After about the "26 minutes left" mark I repeatedly got the following error:
"install failed mac os x could not be installed on your computer
the installer could not copy the necessary support files
click restart to restart your computer and try installing again"
i searched a bunch for this and could not find any definitive answers or help.
the log file was very vague, referring to errors writing package(s).
at first i thought it was a bad DVD drive as it was making a bunch of noise and taking a long time to boot. So i went and purchased a new DVD drive and successfully installed it. nope, same issue. then i pulled out all of my 3rd party RAM. nope. then i tried swapping the RAM into different configurations, nope.
after many many hours of various methods and re-partitioning, etc, just for the heck of it i replaced the harddrive, and it worked!
So, for those of you out there who get this error, try troubleshooting your hardware, try swapping your harddrive.

  • Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer

    Hello guys and girls,
About a year ago I got this problem and never managed to fix it, and bought a new laptop. However my mum wants a laptop and I'm now determined to fix my 2011 Macbook Pro to give to her.
Essentially my macbook was running extremely slow and I figured the most efficient way to fix it was to reset the entire system to factory settings , I deleted Lion (I had done this once before and all went well) and now when I try to reinstall it gets most the way through it before saying:
    Install Failed
Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer. The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail.
I have absolutely no clue what to do about it, which is why I got so frustrated last year I simply gave up and bought a new computer.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

If your Macbook Pro 2011 came with OS X Lion preinstalled, restart into Internet Recovery (Command+Option+R). You will see a spinning globe. Internet Recovery boots into Apple's server and loads their Recovery HD. From there you can use Disk Utility to erase your Macintosh HD, Verify Disk and Repair if necessary. Then at the OS X Utilities Menu select Reinstall OS X.
If your 2011 came with OS X Snow Leopard, you will need to boot from your SL disk and perform the Disk Utility and Reinstall OS X options from there.

  • Install failed Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer

    Hi,
I have a new SSD. I encountered an error twice and it says:
The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
I have used the same SSD as an external drive and it worked fine.
When I went to disk utility the drive was visible and had one partition, the one I used to start up. I tried deleting the partition but it says disk could not unmount.
    Could anyone please help me
    Thanks

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

    help, sos
    thank you.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
When booted from your install disc, navigate to Disk Utility and see what it says. It's possible you have a failing hard drive or something along those lines. If so, there should be some messages in red letters, and you can post back with what these are.
If this is a new replacement drive, did you format it properly for OS X?
If you want to try again, here is a link you might find useful:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1885474&tstart=60
However, if the drive is actually failing, it will need to be replaced.
    Good luck!

  • Os x could not be installed on your computer undefined error

After carefully following instructions to create a bootable USB drive with Yosemite and running disc utilities to erase the drive, I received the message "os x could not be installed on your computer undefined error 0." I see thousands of people have run into the same problem and jt appears Apple left out key details about what needed to be left on the root of the USB. This is unacceptable and, in fact, is fraud and misrepresentation under consumer protection laws.
I've been using Macs since they were first introduced, but Apple has strayed so far from its roots, it's now a corporate rogue. Apple is going to envy Radio Shack's stock price when I get through with them. Executives and board members will now find their properties attached and face criminal--not just civil--penalties. Its jail time now for the criminals at Apple.

Thank you for reading my comment. I ran disk utilities off the USB and erased the hard drive, aiming for a completely clean install. It appears the installer made per Apple's instructions omitted key install files.

  • OS X could not be installed on your computer File system verify or repair failed

Downloaded OS X Yosemite update through Apple Store and attempted to install it on my mom's 2013 21" iMac running OS X 10.9.5.
However, a few minutes into the process I received this message:
OS X could not be installed on your computer
File system verify or repair failed. Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again.
Tried restarting several times to no avail. Ran disk utility and saw:
    Invalid node structure.
File system check exit code is 8.
Error: This disk needs to be repaired.
Repair disk button not available for Mac HD, but is available for 1TB Apple HDD. Is there any way to abort the OS X Yosemite installation?

TThe Disk Utility cannot repair the disk it resides on. The way I get around this is to use an external hard disk as my startup disk and run did utility from that. Most time then the primary disk on your iMac can be repaired.

    Please someone help,
I tried to install this on my MacBook Pro 13 inch (mid 2009) and this message has came up! I haven't backed anything up so does this mean I've lost everything? What should I do? Is it possible to cancel the whole installation and just go back the old software?

    Hi tklfc --
So, you have a 2009 MBP, right?
I'm not sure which version of OS you have on there, now.
10.9 failed, so what was running before?
    Hopefully this will work:
Boot into the Recovery volume (hold down the Command + R keys and boot), OS X: About OS X Recovery, and repair the disk and permissions from there. Then reboot normally.  (From "OT")

  • Install Failed: OS X could not be installed on your computer.

So my Macbook was bought last December 2012. It's specs should be able to run Mavericks.
I've downloaded the software already, so far so good.
When installation starts, it fails and I get this message:
"Install Failed: OS X could not be installed on your computer. OS X can't be installed on the disk because a recovery system can't be created. Visit www.apple.com/support/no-recovery to learn more"
Now it tells me to go to this page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4649
Then I find the message above and tells me to go here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3926
Then I try the solution in the 2nd link and still the installation fails.
Please note that I have a Windows 7 BootCamp Partition that I would as much as possible not delete or reformat as I have too many important stuff there.
    Any ideas?

I have an External Hard Drive here but it's currently being used as storage space for some of my media. Is it possible to backup to a partition of an external hard drive?
I've never done it but it should be possible.  Don't forget that a "partition" acts like a real drive and it is a real drive in every sense of the word except that it shares a physical disc with another drive.
Will try that once I get home from University later. Should I back up both OS X and Bootcamp into the hard drive or just one of them? Then reinstall Mountain Lion, then install Mavericks? Did I get that right?
I don't see any reason why you need to reinstall Mountain Lion.  It's been a long time since I've done any partitioning but, if I remember correctly, you can enlarge the main partition provided that there is no data in the secondary (Boot Camp) partition.  If I'm correct, you'd need to first back up Boot Camp, then erase the original BC partition, then resize the partitions and finally load Mavericks.

  • OS X Yosemite installation 'OS X could not be installed on your computer'

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro. Was on OS X Mountain Lion. Decided to install OS X Yosemite everytime I try it eventually comes up with a warning message - OS X could not be installed on your computer. File system verify or repair failed. Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again.'
Clicking retry just repeats the process.
If I try to go back to the old system by quitting the installer and then clicking startup disk and try to restart I get a message saying 'You can't change the startup disk to the selected disk. Startup disk could not gather enough information on the selected disk.

How large is your HD and how much space do you have left?
    Run OS Recovery
Boot up from your computer by holding down the command+r keys.  This will take you to the recovery drive.
