Mac OS X doesn't recognize Internet addresses starting with "lastfm:".

I am running Safari 5.0.2 on Snow Leopard 10.6.4.
I am unable to open my last.fm radio streams in the browser. I receive the message:
Safari can’t open the specified address.
Safari can’t open “lastfm://user/tivorion/recommended” because Mac OS X doesn’t recognize Internet addresses starting with “lastfm:”.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

It seems addresses starting with lastfm:// are opened in the Last.fm Scrobbler.
To listen to my radio streams, I had to go to http://www.last.fm/listen
Problem solved.

  • Mac OS X doesn't recognize Internet addresses starting with "http:"

I have a Mac G5 and I am using Safari 4.13. My problem is that whenever A site I am on has a reference to a document (usually a ,pdf file) the screen goes blank for a moment as if it is going to the sight and then the above message appears on the screen. The message makes no sense to me and I am very frustrated as naturally I need to access these documents. I have tried going back and forth, cutting and pasting with no affect. If I use another browser it works just fine, I only have this problem with Safari. Any suggestions would be helpful.

    Hi and welcome.......
I found a thread that might help you.
    http://www.mackb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/mac/27730/OSX-doesn-t-recognize-http
So from your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferencees then select the Security tab.
Where you see *Web content* if the box next to *Enable plug-ins* is not selected, select that box then quit Safari (Command + Q) then relaunch Safari.

  • Safari can't open a website because Mac OS X doesn't recognize Internet addresses starting with "http:". WHAT??

Today I have been receiving intermittent error messages while running Safari v5.0.6 on my iMac running Mac OS X v 10.5.8 that Safari cannot open internet sites starting with https: or http: because OS X does not recognize https: or http:. It seems to be happening when I try to click on links within pages directing me to other info (on secure web pages).
Clearly there is something very weird going on, as obviously this site is one that starts with https: and I am here posting to the community. Has anyone else seen this?
What is this all about? It worked fine yesterday - I have made no changes to anything. Safari has been running like a slug the past few weeks. I have Apple auto update set to check for updates daily - so I truly have no idea were this is coming from. Any guidance would be apprecited! Thx -

Hello  - anyone have any comments for me on this? Thx -

You are probably going to want to upgrade your memory (RAM). While 2 GB is the stated minimum, realistically 4 GB seems to be the consensus minimum. More is better.
The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a machine supposedly limited to 4 GB.

  • What can I do when I try to access a URL and get the message "MAC OSX doesn't recognize internet addresses starting with "c:"?

I recently tried to download a pdf file from a website in the UK.  Up popped a message saying the website could not be accessed, followed by this message: "MAC OSX doesn't recognize internet addresses starting with "c:".  I was able to access the website easily (its domain was "www") and the page listing the pdfs, but could not download a pdf.  Of course," c:" appears not to be a valid domain name, but why would anyone use "c:" in place of a domain name in their URL?  And what can I do about the problem?  I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.10, but also have Firefox and Chrome loaded.  Thanks.

An address starting with c: wouldn't be any kind of domain name. C: is the drive lettering system DOS and and later uses. By default, A: and B: are reserved for your first and second floppy disk drive. All hard drives are then named C: through Z:, if you have that many. C: is normally your startup disk.
Anyway, their PDF file is incorrectly linked to a file directly on the C: drive of someone's computer. It's not going to work no matter what you do.

  • Why os x doesn't recognize internet addresses starting with "wsytd"

There seems to be an increasing number of web addresses that are not recognised, I'm using safari and my OS X Lion software is current.
I am a complete novice and not very familier with mac problems, anybody knows why evey time I try to use a download button the message comes up OS X doesn't recognize; is it me????

URLs follow a standard pattern that consist of several elements, the most important of which is the protocol used to access the resource (e.g. http:// for HTTP-based requests, ftp:// for FTP, etc.)
In this case you're trying to download a link using the 'wsytd' protocol. This is not a standard protocol at all, but appears to be something related to WonderShare, a third-party app for downloading content from YouTube.
As such, the problem is not with your machine, or Safari at all, it's with some kind of Wondershare app.
Either Wondershare isn't installed on your machine (so the OS doesn't know to pass wsytd:// URLs to it), or the app is broken in some way. A quick search on the net finds this discussion which indicates that you're not alone and alludes to the possibility that YouTube have moved to block this app from downloading content (presumably on some copyright basis). If that's the case then your recourse is to go to the software vendor to look for updates that might work. Either way, it's not your Mac, per se., that's at fault.

  • Anyone know how to fix this ? mac os x does not recognise internet addresses starting with "isytd"

I cannot find any useful info on how to solve this problem. Safari cannot download certain YouTube downloads where it has no problem with others.
In my security tab on Safari settings Plug-ins are enabled. Any suggestions ? Thanks

    Hi
    I had a same problem ( Mountain Lion )
The solution I found is :
Download the software "iskysoft free video downloader" : http://www.iskysoft.com/free-mac-video-downloader.html
    Then install it.
This software integrates himself to Safari ( and other navigators ), and you can download many videos on the web.
BUT for the vids in "isytd", you need to use a different way :
Launch Iskysoft Free Video Downloader software.
copy the URL adress of the video you wanna upload,
then use the "paste URL" button on the iskysoft software
The software will analyse the URL, and automatically download the video.
    That's OK for me ;-))

  • Safari not recognising internet address starting with "aam:"

    Hi,
Any quick fix with my problem?  I have a new Macbook Pro but could not download my creative cloud products/apps for the reason as stated above.  Please help!

You should be able to install the Creative Cloud application from https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud when signed in with your Adobe ID. This new application will handle downloading and installing CC or CS6 applications.
If this does not work direct download links are here:
    Mac OS X: http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/creativesuite/cs/mac/ApplicationManager7.0_all.dmg
    Windows: http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/creativesuite/cs/win/ApplicationManager7.0_all.exe
Once installed the aam link will be recognized by the browser, or you can just use the Creative Cloud application to install applications.

  • Safari doesn't recognize http addresses

    When I input:
    http://www.devon-technologies.com/files/academy/devonthink/videos/videotutorial- 1.mov
to safari, I get the error message:
Safari can’t open “http://www.devon-technologies.com/files/academy/devonthink/videos/videotutorial- 1.mov” because Mac OS X doesn’t recognize Internet addresses starting with “http:”.
Huh? firefox had no problems opening the page.

Thanks for the response. Two questions:
    1. I should know this, but it's been a long time, how do I create a new account? I know the account manager will allow to designate the new account as an admin.
    2. Why is a new account needed?

  • Mac OS X 10.6.8 won't recognize address starting with "macappstores"

I'm trying to go to Mac App Store website, using Safari, to download the software I purchased but my I'm getting the following message:
Safari can't open macappstores://itunes.apple.com (etc) because MAC OSX doesn't recognize addresses starting with "macappstores"
I currently have Mac OS X version 10.6.8
Any suggestions? This is very frustrating!

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Server doesn't recognize email address

I can recieve email, but I can't send email.  It keeps saying "server doesn't recognize email address."

    Ok,
    I have it working finally.
On a whim, I tried deleting the iCloud account (again) and reinstated it.
I set it up using [username]@me.com, and all is well.
This is the 2nd time i set it up this way, so I would suggest trying it again, if you have already.
