Mac OS X install failed

i went to disk utility and erased Macintosh hd. after that I installed OS X lion. Everything went smoothly until the last part. During the final installation I recieved a message saying install failed. Now I'm stuck on the install failed screen and i have no idea how to return to the disk utilities. I have the option to restart and try installing again but I have tried several times with no luck.
Has anyone else encountered this problem and has anyone found a solution?
I was using OS X Yosmite 10.10

First, see the heading "What to do if the installer warns that no Recovery System can be created" in this support article. If you use Boot Camp, back up and delete the Windows partition using Boot Camp Assistant. Try the installation again.

Can't delete Airport Utility and reinstal from scratch as it is, “AirPort Utility” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X.

I reinstalled AirPort 5.5.3 which worked, but the app still won't launch but iTunes now recognizes my AirPort Express, I just hope I don't want to change its settings.

Mac Office 2011 Install Failed: The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail.

Here is what I've tried (from the Microsoft support pages):
Safe install mode
Custom Install (deleting norweigan and other languages)
New User "test" account install
free trial download (also failed)
I've installed this three pack home and student software on my Mac Book pro at home running OS Lion.
I need it for my work computer, the 10.6.8 too. (student use)

The problem is commonly associated with expired signatures.
To fix the problem set the clock to a date prior to March 23 and try installing the software packages again.

Acrobat Pro install fails on OSX Yosemite 10.10.1

I have a license for Acrobat Pro XI. When I try to install, the intstallation terminates with Installation failed.

1. /Library/Preferences/
2. ~/Library/Preferences/
This file might be already present on your machine if you have any other version of Acrobat installed. You need to rename this file or move it to some other location and then try installing Acrobat 11 again. Please let us know if you are able to install after following these steps.
It’s only there in /Library/Preferences
I deleted com.adobe.PDFAdminSettings.plist from /Library/Preferences/ with admin privileges
still the installation fails
Any other suggestions.

Absolutely - but I had no idea there were two versions. When I got my new laptop I just went to the Adobe site to download and install LR5. It never asked if I had a license; it just directed me to install CC to start a trial which I thought I could license after downloading. Several sessions and many hours of looking through the forums and Google for an answer I never ran across anything that made this distinction. I still haven't found a path from www.adobe.com that would get me to the standalone download page (it's probably there, wasn't obvious to me) and looking at the download page it doesn't make any CC/standalone distinction.
There are many places I could have gotten a hint - for instance the license could be tagged "stand alone edition", the CC-version could recognize the stand-alone key and either accept it or produce a more meaningful error message, or the download site or the CC app could ask if I had previously purchased a key, etc.
It was my error to assume this was a deactivation problem, but it looked the same as a previous deactivation problem with Photoshop.
In any event, thank you for your help.

Currently Installed and up to date:

InDesign CC
Illustrator CC

Adobe Air (installed by recommendation of Adobe Phone Support)
Would like to know to get past this error and complete the installation.

mike.buckhout is right, i had the same issue and had to install Adobe Bridge first.

Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Install Failed

Trying to upgrade a Power Mac Dual G5 from Mac OS X Tiger to Leopard 10.5. When I try to install the Leopard Disc, I keep getting an "Install Failed" message. This is what is said:
Install Failed
Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer
The source media you are installing from is damaged. Try installing from a different copy of the source media or contact the manufacturer for a replacement.
Click restart to restart your computer and try installing again.
Now, I've used this disc once before for an upgrade on a laptop and worked fine, just started to fail when used on the G5. The disc is not scratched, nor looks damaged. Not sure why it's saying damaged? Any insightful knowledge would be appreciated.

The install disks I have are the ones he got with his Mac Mini. Are there different install disks for iMacs? On the disks themselves, it says "for Mac computers."
Do I have to buy an OS which is specifically for iMac?
The discs that came with his computer have only the necessary software pieces needed to run his computer--it lacks the drivers that would be needed run your iMac. (In addition, installing the same copy of the OS on two computers would be a violation of the license, even if it worked.)
You need to buy a retail version of Leopard or Snow Leopard. Since your iMac has an intel processor, you can buy the cheaper Snow Leopard ($29) from the "Store" tab at the top of this page or anywhere that sells Mac software.

The first time I attempted to install ML was on a late 2011 MBP. It ran for three minutes then gave me the error message: Could not install OSX due to an unexpected error. I was using the original ML install app, not a USB or other drive.
After a couple of restarts wiht the same result I saw a message to the effect that the install was trying to close open apps. I closed apps manually a few times to no avail. I shut down instead of restarting then booted into Safe mode (hold down the shift key when starting) and that did it. The install went smoothly after that.
I since installed ML in two iMacs using a cloned copy of the install app on a USB drive. This time I shut down the computers and booted into Safe Mode first and there were no problems.
I don't know if this issue is the one causing you these problems but it is a simple enough solution to try.

Install MAC OS X always fails

It just says To setup the installation of MAC OS X, click continue then agree to terms and conditions select which dick to install to MAC it starts installing then comes up Mac OS X lion could not be installed, beacause the disk MAC is damaged and cant be repaired What can i do to fix this

If the disk cannot be repaired then that means:
1. The disk has failed and should be replaced.
2. The disk is badly corrupted and needs to be reformatted.
I assume you are running Snow Leopard, so you need to do the following:
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
     1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
         with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
         After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
         a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
     2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
         button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
         After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
         size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
         partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
         and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
         (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
     3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
         with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
     4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
         Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
         username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
         Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
         install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
         Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

Install Failed on Mac Leopard

I'm trying install Lightroom 2.1 on Mac OSX Leopard. Lightroom has never been installed on this computer. I am on a Macbook Pro 15'' and my computer meets all the requirements. It's giving me the following error:
Install Failed! The following install step failed: run preflight script for Adobe Lightroom 2.1. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.

Mac OS X 10.5.7 Update - Install Failed

I can't install the 10.5.7 update. I've downloaded it both through software update and downloading it directly from the Apple website. Any ideas how I can get this to work?

Well, then, you may have some sort of corruption on your hard drive. You might try repairing the hard drive then downloading the software again, but there's little else you can do.

I Have mac osx 10.5.8 and have tried to update to mac osx snow leopard 10.6.3, but I constantly get the install failed message. What could be the problem?

There are several reasons for this:
The Apple method performs a check of the DVD's integrity before starting up from it. This can't be done if you start up directly from the DVD.
The Apple method "phones home" using the current OS's network settings to check for updates to the incompatible items database included on the DVD & writes a lot of pre-install data (the 'Mac OS X Install Data' stuff) to the HD before restarting automatically from the DVD to finish the installation. This may not work as expected if you start up directly from the DVD.
The pre-install data on the HD speeds up the installation process (because running the OS from the HD to build the data is faster than doing that while running from a DVD).
The Apple method makes it possible to "gracefully" cancel the installation before the automatic restart occurs without leaving the existing OS on the HD in a corrupted, "half-installed" state unable to restart the Mac. This sometimes happens if the installation process hangs & one has to force-restart the Mac to recover. As long as this occurs during the "pre-install phase" before the restart, the existing OS should remain untouched & intact.
Also note that the Snow Leopard installer is quite a bit more sophisticated than the previous ones like for Leopard or Tiger. It automatically performs the equivalent of Disk Utility's Verify Disk step before beginning the installation & performs more checks during the installation process (including checking the pre-install data for errors). It is usually not necessary to remove the "Mac OS X Install Data" folder after a failed installation, which may just cause the process to take longer on subsequent attempts, but if nothing else helps it is certainly something worth trying.

HT4718 infinite loop error installing lion internet recovery "Install Mac OS X" window. " Install Failed Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer - Restart"

Hi all,
my macbook pro became extermily slow for some reason, I rebooted it many times and same problem so I decided to reinstall the Mac OS X lion from the internet.
I tried installing lion internet recovery, it downloaded it and restarted. I got the "Install Mac OS X" window. then while installing I got the sad message " Install Failed Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer" and the only botton is "restart". Everytime I restart I gor the same message. Now I am trying to start from the harddisk but I does not show when you start the pc, keep clicking the "alt" botton. It only shows "Mac OS X Installer" and "Recovery HD". What Should I do?

I could format it and get the back up from time machine but it is not up to date so I want to leave it at last.
I tried to back it up on external hard drive and got an error, tried CCC for back up and error again.
Just wanted to do an update on the subject. Still trying to get it back.

Error: "install failed mac os x could not be installed on your computer"

Wanted to post an error I repeatedly got in case anyone else out there has the same issue. Went to do a snowleopard (10.6) upgrade and clean install on a mac pro (coming from 10.5). After about the "26 minutes left" mark I repeatedly got the following error:
"install failed mac os x could not be installed on your computer
the installer could not copy the necessary support files
click restart to restart your computer and try installing again"
i searched a bunch for this and could not find any definitive answers or help.
the log file was very vague, referring to errors writing package(s).
at first i thought it was a bad DVD drive as it was making a bunch of noise and taking a long time to boot. So i went and purchased a new DVD drive and successfully installed it. nope, same issue. then i pulled out all of my 3rd party RAM. nope. then i tried swapping the RAM into different configurations, nope.
after many many hours of various methods and re-partitioning, etc, just for the heck of it i replaced the harddrive, and it worked!
So, for those of you out there who get this error, try troubleshooting your hardware, try swapping your harddrive.
