Mac Os X - Intel

Ok, so... i want to get onto mac, [i curently use windows xp].
I know that the new Leoperd os X is out soon, witch can run windows.
Since a mac pc, can run windows, can a regualar Windows Pc, [most likly a self bilt one] run os x, i know that the cpu woulnd now be compatible as apple are using intel, but the main question would be, Can u run Os x leopeard [or tiger] or standerd Pc Hardware.
Im completely new to OS X so the help would be apreicated!
Many thanks.
  Windows XP

You can run Windows XP and OS X (Tiger) on an Intel Mac now. Here is one way which will be improved (no longer a beta version) with Leopard.
http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/
The answer to your question is no, not without a hack of some sort and even if successful, much on a PC would not be supported by OS X. In addition, it would be a violation of the OS X license agreement which allows for installing OS X on an Apple labeled computer only.

I have recently purchased a hybred 750GbHDD as an upgrade for my MAC Book Pro (Intell Version) I have a boot camp partition to the original 500GB HDD. How can I expand both partitions to fit the new drive?
I have tried bootcamp and have had no luck due to the fact that boot camp doesn't see the additional HDD space of 250Gb. What am I not doing?

Ouch, well there is a problem.
This is the stack of partitions on your old drive
    EFI (hidden)
    Lion (50GB say)
    Bootcamp (50GB say)
    Lion Recovery Partiton (hidden)
This is the same stack on your new drive imaged from the old one.
    EFI (hidden)
    Lion (50GB say)
    Bootcamp (50GB say)
    Lion Recovery Partiton (hidden)
    Emtpy Space (100GB say)
    This is what you want
    EFI (hidden)
    Lion (100GB say)
    Bootcamp (100GB say)
    Lion Recovery Partiton (hidden)
EFI has to be at the top of the drive and Lion Recovery has to be at the bottom of the drive.
And you only have four partitions.
You can't move the Lion Recovery Partition or Bootcamp partiton, however you can expand the Lion Partition into empty space below it. (but can't delete or move the Lion Recovery partition)
Your Duplicator duplicated perfectly, too perfectly Likely would work with same sized drives/partitions.
This is what your going to need to do.
You need to move the Bootcamp partition to a blank external drive using WinClone and disconnect. This is so you have two backups of it. (one on your old 500GB drive)
You will need a drive enclousre or IDE/SATA to USB adapter cable for the older 500GB drive and option key boot from it. (some enclosures can't be booted from so check first Other World Computing is good place to ask)
Download the free Carbon Copy Cloner, grab any new files off the new 750GB internal drive to the old 500GB your booted from.
Open Apple's Disk Utility and Erase with Zero option the entire internal 750GB drive and let it rip, this will map off as many bad sectors and improve reliability.
Now use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the 500GB Lion + Lion Recovery Partitions to the internal 750GB, it will "fix" things and place Lion Recovery at the bottom of the drive where it belongs, give all the extra space to OS X Lion.
Next your going to have to follow WinClones instructions to restore your Bootcamp, likely you will have to recreate the Bootcamp partition first (in Bootcamp) to the size you want and then clone. Likely Winclone may "fix" Windows to recognize it's in a new larger partition now. I don't know you'll have to check as I haven't used it.
When Bootcamp creates the partition it will place it near the bottom next to the Lion Recovery Partition.
As you know you will have to re-validate Windows with Lord Redmond or it expires as you changed the hardware.

  • My mac has a intel core duo, not a intel 2 core duo, can I still upgrade to lion

My Mac has an intel core duo processor, will I still be able to upgrade to Lion? What do I need to do if I can't?

    I have a similar question.
    I have a 2006 xeon macpro.
Will i beable to upgrade to lion.
I saw this on the website today.
Step 1:Make sure your Mac can run Lion.
Your Mac must have an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor to run Lion. Find out if your current Mac has one of these processors by clicking the Apple icon at the top left of your screen, then choosing About This Mac.
    Here is what i have.
      Processor Name:          Dual-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:          2.66 GHz
Will i be good to upgrade?
    Thanks

  • Mac Book Pro Intel Core Duo 2 overheating and turning off

I've been having this nasty problem with my Mac Book Pro Intel Core Duo 2 (2.8 Ghz, 4 MB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM, bought in August 2009) for quite a while, but recently it's intensifying.
It starts to overheat badly, and then randomly turns itself off if not connected to the power.
When restarted, the clock is set to January 1st, 2001.
Needless to say, the overheating impacts on my capacity to use the computer the way I want, destroying my fps in games and slowing the processor while I use Ableton Live to produce music.
I tried to look around, but I cannot figure out if this is a known issue of some sorts, or a problem related to this very computer: I did read on the forums a suggestion to run the Hardware Tests from the Snow Leopard DVD by booting the system with the DVD in while holding d, but nothing happens if I do so.
    Thank you all in advance!

Why will my Mac 8,1 intel desktop not stay in sleep mode for more than 5 seconds?
Have tried repeatedly and end up shutting down instead of "sleeping:.

Hello, most usually it's some USB device causing that, but...
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. Or an errant process eating up RAM.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

Then it either is a pirate clone or you are misinformed.
Apple Computer has never used AMD processors in its products.
However, the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) is a Radeon unit, which is an AMD subsidiary. Parallels, VMWare, VirtualBox will all work fine with the Intel Core i7 or i5 CPU that powers the Mac, and use the AMD Radeon GPU that drives the displays.

No, even if you could the CPU isn't strong enough.
However you can install the DVD version of Linux Mint 10.10 (not 11 or 12) then theme it to MacBuntu 10.10 (follow the links in the quote instructions below) and it will look like OS X, plus it's a lighter OS version and runs well on netbooks. I have one myself as Apple doesn't make a netbook.
Don't do this on your only machine, you need a way to get online and ask at Linux Mint for assistance.
    http://www.linuxmint.com/index.php
    MacBuntu 10.10 video
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxODltR8IZY
Note you will not be able to run Windows programs (perhaps a few with Wine) or OS X programs in Linux. But there is lots of free software in the Software Manager and Linux Mint 10.10 (DVD version) installs a lot of useful stuff free, like LibreOffice, software to manage music, Firefox, mail etc etc.
Netbooks are not that powerful anyway, so Linux makes a excellent choice over Windows.
Again 10.10 is the best you can likley do on your hardware.
    Enjoy.
ds store's: Easiest, trouble free way to install Linux I have found yet.
These instructions are for a complete wipe of a boot drive and install of Linux, not a "dual boot" / "partition alongside" Windows which is a more risky and involved affair.
Once you do this, unless you have a FULL Windows install disk and valid product key, your PC Vendor version of Windows, it's factory recovery partition, your files and programs, will be totally removed and unrecoverable.
This will NOT work for Mac's as they use EFI and no BIO's, only generic PC's with BIO's can this work.
Linux overwrites the entire drive with a new EXT drive format, recovery of data is not possible. If you do this to a machine that doesn't belong to you, you will likely be facing serious charges of the destruction of private property.
1: Download PenDrive Linux, USB Easy Installer (Windows), stick in a empty (or soon to be empty) 2-4GB USB drive.
    http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/
2: From the first menu you see there, pick a distro (my advice for your first Linux, is Linux Mint 10.10)
If you want to look like OS X then pick MacBuntu, if Like XP, then "Like XP 10.10"
All three of these ARE based upon Ubuntu, but much, much better.
3: Check the box to download the distro, go get a beer and have a sandwich.
4: Browse to the finished download, Set the correct drive letter for the USB. Format the drive. Leave rest alone. Create.
Stick the USB in the target computer, for towers you need to use the BACK USB port.
Hook up a Ethernet cable to your router or modem to download wifi and other drivers, important!
Now you need to find your BIO's boot key on this page.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/a/biosaccess_pc.htm
5: Enter the BIO's and set the USB as the first boot and save. Reboot off the USB key.
6: Your in the installer, choose to erase the whole disk and install Linux. Make sure you have a wired internet connection for drivers/updates. (Linux formats the entire drive, all data will be lost)
That's it, it's very, very easy. Your machine should be fast too.
Get sick of one distro, there are others. You can even turn Linux Mint into MacBuntu at this link
    http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/326
I would go this route if your interested in the OS X look, because Linux Mint is the best desktop for newbies. Everything is there, then you take that with you with the OS X theme switch.
Also if you have a powerful machine, you can install VirtualBox and run a distro in that as well, like Ubuntu.
    Good Luck

  • Mac PPC vs Intel?

Just a quick inquiry to anyone who may have done hybrid
    projects lately.
I develop on Windows and only have an Intel Mac Mini for
testing. In fact, everyone I know (
all 2 of them) with a Mac has an Intel machine and not a PPC
version. We are only concerned with OSX 10.3 and higher due to the
fact that one Xtra has that as a minimum requirement, so I only
need to know about that target. Even the city libraries and schools
all are running Windows it seems.
Our project runs properly, thus far, on Windows (all 32 &
64 bit bit flavours, including Vista) and it also runs on Intel
    OSX.
My question is whether or not there would be any reason it
    would not function on PPC?
All the Xtras we use are either native to Director MX 2004 or
are xtras that have been around since before the Intel platform
    existed for Apple.
The 3rd party apps we are using are : BuddyAPI, OSControl,
INM Vizion DB, and Webviewer Xtra
As I said, we have no issues on the Intel side of the
equation, so I just want some assurance that the app should work on
PPC as well since it has to be sent off for duplication soon and I
seem to have nowhere available to test it.

I have not seen any issues with PPC Macs not working when
    their
counterpart Intel do work. In fact, the Intel Macs are having
    to run
all the PPC code under Rosetta, so you should find in almost
    every
instance that the PPCs will run the same programs faster.
    Especially if
    you use 3d.

  • Mac OS X PPC to Mac OS X Intel - cross upgrade?

Hi, I just switched from a PPC Powerbook to a new Macbook, I bought a copy of OS X Tiger a couple of months back for my Powerbook (I like to have the actual OS X disk to make bootable partitions of my external backup hard drive)... is there a cross upgrade program so I can switch my PPC OS X DVD for an Intel DVD?
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Presently the Intel version of OS X is only available as the distribution DVD that came with your Intel Mac. You cannot boot an Intel Mac using the retail distribution of Tiger nor can you boot a PowerPC Mac with the Intel version of Tiger.
Also, Intel Macs require a different partition scheme than PowerPC Macs. In order to boot an Intel Mac a hard drive must be partitioned using the GUID partition scheme (an option in the Intel version of Disk Utility.)
Although this is purely a guess at this point, I would expect that the next revision of OS X, Leopard, will be made available both in PowerPC and Intel versions (and perhaps may even be a universal binary release.) However, this is purely speculative on my part.

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
