Mac os x Leopard for windows

I am downloading windows to my mac. Do I need the Mac os x leopard disk? Or will windows work without it?

The reason they recommend installing Leopard (or OS X in general) is because OS X has Boot Camp Assistant, which makes it easy to set up your Windows partition. However...
You don't actually need Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows. All it really does it create the Windows partition for you, but the Mac is just a computer: you can just boot into the Windows DVD, and make/format the partition yourself.
However, if you want to ensure the best performance, you should have your OS X disc handy when Windows is done installing because the OS X disc contains Windows drivers.

    Hi,
I want to transfer emails from outlook 2011 for mac to outlook 2010 for windows.
Outlook 2011 exports mails only in olm format and there is no option to import olm files in outlook 2010.
I can drag and drop emails from outlook 2011 to a finder folder which saves emails as eml files. How can import eml files into outlook 2010.
    Please help

    Hi,
    Thank you for using
Microsoft Office for IT Professionals Forums.
    Base on the research ,
We can try the steps below to add the registry sub key. This will open all .eml files that are in the file system using Outlook, including *.eml attachments on messages in OE/WLM. Any replies will be sent
    using Outlook.

    1.Type

    Or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Microsoft Internet Mail Message\shell\open\command
    3. Change the command line (here its "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /eml:%1)
to the following line, exactly as shown below but correcting the path to Outlook.exe to match the path on your computer.
    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\OUTLOOK.EXE" /eml "%1"

  • Mac OS Snow Leopard and Windows XP Installation

Recently I got Snow Leopard and I installed it successfully. Then I used Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows XP which also worked fine but when I restarted, by default it was starting in Windows rather than in Mac OS. Secondly, in Windows, I could not see any wireless or internet connections or options for that. Hence I thought of re-installing the OS. When I am trying to do it, first I wanted was to wipe out the Windows partition. To do this, when I wanted to use Boot Camp Assistant, it says, "Update your System Software before using this assistant". Whats this and how to do it? All I want is to just format the whole HDD and reinstall Snow Leopard and then Install Windows XP. But as I could not run Boot Camp Assistant, I cant wipe out the Windows Partition and hence cant move farther. Would one assist me on this?

If you hold the option key down while starting up the machine, you should be able to choose which partition you want to boot from. But before erasing everything, you may just need to install the drivers for WindowsXP and everything will work. Boot into Windows and then insert your Snow Leopard disc into the drive. It should auto-run the installation of all your drivers and get everything running right for you. Post back if we can assist more!

  • Mac Mini stuck looking for Windows Boot Disk! Please help

Hi all, I've been running Leopard on my Mac Mini off a FireWire hard drive enclosure. The 750gb hard drive in the enclosure is a drive I used to have in my old iMac.
When I had my iMac I'd installed Windows via Bootcamp. So when running, the Mac Mini would show a Windows partition on the Leopard desktop. Today I needed to do something in Windows. so I went to Sys Prefs > Startup Disk and chose to reboot into that Windows partition. BIG MISTAKE
Now whenever I turn the Mini on it looks for a Windows partition and tells me it can't find one. I've tried resetting the PMU, booting from Leopard DVD, holding Option, nothing works. The only thing that will work is if I put a Windows XP disk in and it will try and take me through the install process.
How on earth do I get my Mac back booting into Leopard!?

I can't believe it was just the new Apple thin Alu Keyboard causing it! Plugged in an old Apple USB one and I got the Option startup menu straight away, totally bizarre!

  • Trouble converting Mac Quicktime audio files for Windows ITunes

I tried convereting them to AAC files on the import. They seemed to "play" but there was no audio. I then did MP3 conversion and got MPEG files with the same results. Grateful for any help.

quicktime files themselves are compatible between OSs. Unless you are trying to read a Mac formatted disc with a Windows machine. try burning to CD the reading with other system.

I'm trying to setup Outlook on my work machine so I can receive email from my Mac Mail account.  I've just attempted the steps presented here in Outlook using their add account wizard and am running into a problem.  After completing all steps and testing them I'm getting a window that pops up asking me for my user ID and Password repeatedly.  I've tried inputting them and clicking ok but the window just pops up again with no error message.
I would love to download the iCloud client for windows but unfortunately my organizations regulations prohibit me from doing so.  I'm also unable to access the iCloud website due to the same regulations.

  • MAC OS X LEOPARD/Bootcamp/Windows Vista

    Hello all,
Just was wondering some things about the title up there. In Leopard, will we be able to install another OS like vista via bootcamp without the full version of it (in other words with an upgrade version)? Something else I'd like to ask is what about Vista Ultimate, will it be compatible with the iMac...what I mean is, I hear most computers now a days are not compatible with ultimate therefore you have to buy a new darn computer just to run it. So just wondering, but to your knowledge, is it compatible? Also, when exactly is Leopard due out? Thank you for your time.

    Thanks for the reply Hermano
"I'm not sure how anything less than a full version would work. An upgrade version relies on upgrading something that already exists. In the case of Windows, at least on a Mac, there isn't anything to upgrade"
Well, all they ask for in the upgrade process is proof of you having a lower version of windows, which I have. But with bootcamp, there is no way to get the install disc out of the drive to put in the other disc to prove that I am legal as far as the upgrade is concerned.
"If you need to have the top of the line version of Vista, then perhaps you need a top of the line PC on which to run it. Why are you playing with a Mac, if Windows is what you want?"
I got a mac because I was tired of all the crap I had put up with on a pc for the last 20+ years. But I had to be honest with myself and admit that there are just certain things that cannot be done with a mac but they can be done on a pc. I'm not going to spend any more money on any pc's. I would just like to be able to run windows vista on my mac. Because the iMac has the new intel core 2 duo in them, vista should work fairly well in it. I hear that that is the only thing stopping me from running it on this pc of mine. The pentiums are not x64 bit.

  • IPod Nano Sync with Mac, but iPod formatted for Windows

I finally changed to the Mac platform and all my iPods and iPhones were synced with a Windows based computer. While my iPhones were not a problem, my iPod Nano (4GB 2nd generation) seemed not be recognized by my iMac.
I can't seem to get my iMac to show the iPod under Devices to reformat it. Anyone have any advice to give?
I have plugged it in to a my Windows based work laptop and it seems to work fine. However I don't sync with that machine and I have already sold my old Windows based computer it was synced to.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I have three iPods: 40GB iPod photo, 2GB black iPod nano and 1GB iPod shuffle. Each one has it's own playlist to auto sync songs from (technically, the 40GB iPod is synchronized manually, but the other two have playlists to sync automatically from). They each have different names so iTunes knows they're each different. So, you shouldn't have any trouble keeping just two iPods separate with your Mac mini or iMac.

  • Mac disk accidently formatted for windows...

I pulled a mac hard disk from a friends broken Powerbook G4 - formatted with OS 10.x - with the intention of pulling all the info off the drive so my friend could save his files.  After putting the drive in a USB2 enclosure, I could see the files fine, and was about to transfer them to my HD, when my braniac son who builds PCs for fun asked what I was doing.  I expalined that my friend had purchased a windows PC and would not likely be able to view the files on his PC, so I was going to transfer them to my machine, reformat the disk to work with windows, and transfer the files back. Maybe there was an easier way, but I am not aware what it would be.
My son said "no problem dad- windows can read that disk".  BEing the eternal pessimist, I said "OK, show me".  He plugged the disk into his machine and viola- nothing happened.  He was surprised, and started typing furiously- and before I could ask what he was doing I guess he put a windows partition on the drive with windows 7 drivers -  I think it is NTSF. But he still could not see the files.
I stopped him ASAP, and took the disk back to my Mac.  I opened disk utility, and I saw 2 partitions- one 250MB with the windows format.  The other -I think- was "unformatted".   I downloaded Data Rescue 3, and scanned the disk.  That application can see the files I need, but I am thinking there has got to be another way without spending $100.  When I use Disk Utility now,  the drive shows it is "unformated".
What I want to do is somehow mount this on my Mac, possibly rebuild a directory and offload the files.
    Thoughts?

Have your son cough up the $100. You broke it. You fix it!
    Try:
"TestDisk is a free data recovery utility. It was primarily designed to help recover lost data storage partitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by faulty software, certain types of viruses or human error (such as accidentally erasing a partition table)."
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TestDisk
The more you mess with the disk, the greater the chance of trashing the disk.  I'd say TestDisk is too risky.
    Mess with a virtual hd.
Use disk utility to create. Not shown in the example.
I think if you rename the created file to .dmg, it will just work.
    Do a  bit-by-bit copy
In Mac OS 10.4, you can use the following command to display all the partitions:
    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
    # This is a little deep.
#It is  best to do the pdisk command before you eject the external hard drive. Now, eject the external hard drive.  Do another pdisk command to see what drive name has disappeared.  The disappearing name is the name of your external hard drive.
    sudo pdisk -l
    #for details...
    man pdisk
#The syntax is different for Mac OS 10.2. I do not know about 10.3.
    # Do a  bit-by-bit copy.
    #eject the partition
    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
    dd if=/dev/disk0s10 bs=4096 | gzip | dd of=~/disk0-s10 bs=4096
#this can take awhile. Open another window and do ls -l ~/disk0-s10
    # Here is  how to restore the partition.
    dd if=~/disk0-s10 bs=4096 | gunzip | dd of=/dev/disk0s10 bs=4096
Remember to erase the large zero data file before backing up.

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 activation issue on MAC running Parallels Desktop for Windows 7

I have a MacBook Pro laptop running both OSX and Windows 7 (using Parallels Desktop). I installed the MAC version of Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 when I booted in the MAC OSX mode. I also Installed Adobe Photoshop 10 in the Windows 7 mode (running as a virtual machine using Parallels Desktop). Both programs indicate that they are activated. If I boot the computer in the Windows 7 mode (not using Parallels Desktop) and start the Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 program it indicates that it is NOT activated and that I "already have two copies activated".
Question: Since I only actually have two copies activated how do I get the program activated for the Windows 7 boot operating mode?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Mac user locks files for Windows users on NFS shares

    Hi Everyone,
We run a mostly Windows environment here at my school and have two AD servers which also do our file shares for AD users. Every user has a network drive mapped to L on Windows, and this is mounted on the dock of our Mac users (all Macs are bound to the AD for auth and the OD for management). We also have shared folders for different groups of people, such as admissions or art (where the issue is). Most of these divisions are only Windows, so file sharing isn't and issue - but this is not the case in our Art department.
We have a shared folder (T on Windows) setup for users of the Art department with mostly Office docs in it. Windows users can write to the share just fine, just as the Mac users can. The issue comes up once a Mac user edits and saves the file (all to the share) - Windows users are now locked out of the file because the permissions are reset. What can we do to fix this issue? It's obnoxious having to go and reset the permissions after every edit from a Mac user.
    Thanks,
    -MRCUR

We also have that same problem. We don't actually solved the issue but we what we do did is just unlock the files once and even they are edited or opened in windows or mac, it does not lock the file. We use windows pc and connect to the drives and just simply right clicking the file then properties a button will show in the properties window saying "unlock". After we did that, those files was never locked out again.

  • Can I connect a Mac running Snow Leopard to Windows Small Business Server

I'm running the OSX 10.6.8 and want to connect to applications running on Windows Small Business Server 2008.  Is this easy or difficult or impossible?

Most Applications intended to run in that fashion would provide a Mac client, a Windows client and a Server component, designed to interact and keep a Master database on the Server up-to-date. Custom database software could also be written for that environment. Perehaps there are options for your package to be used in that fashion, but it would have to be designed-in from the beginning.
A web Application could also run in that fashion, with only a Web Browser on each computer interfacing to the Server software, which would keep the Master database and allow multiple access over your local Network.

  • Serial Number for CS5.5 Production Premium that I received for Mac download not working for Windows

My ProductionPremium CS5.5 serial number for my Mac is not working when I download and install ProductionPremium CS5.5 on my windows machine. Do I need to deinstall on my mac or get another serial number issued?

This is expected. Serial numbers are platform specific and platform swaps only apply to current versions. You need to upgrade to CS6 and make the switch.

    Dear Friends
I doubt I have several projects done on my old Windows 8 operating system and Windows 10 with Adobe Muse, saved projects in .muse and now wonder if there is possibility to use this design on a Mac OS system if there is any difference and what procedure to take or is only run the muse file on MAC OS without problems know I am not in doubt?
    grateful
    Anderson Couto

    HI Anderson,
The .muse file will work with windows and mac both. So if you design site in Windows and open this .muse file in Mac,or vice-versa, it will work without any issue.
Do let me know if you have any question.

my Company was mistakenly sent CS6 for Windows.  May I download CS6 for Mac and use serial # for windows?

Unless things have changed, there are separate S/N's for the PC and the Mac versions.
I would immediately contact Adobe Customer Support (not Technical Support), and explain the error. I feel that they will be able to help you with replacing the PC version.
