Welcome to Apple Discussions, PandaJin.
This is a sensitive question because it is both unsupported and violation of the license agreement.
There are hacks that allow OS X to install on a pc. However, even if you do install 10.5 on your HP, it will be fraught with problems. Mac OS X is built to run on Mac hardware. You have different specs, different hardware, different drivers. And AFAIK, you will be unable to run updates.
In short, if you do get the job done, you may have some bragging rights but little of anything else of value.

  • Snow Leopard Compatability of Third Party SW Question

I'm considering getting Snow Leopard OSX 10.6
However I do use the applejack cleanup utility and Disk Warrior a lot to maintain my system.
Can anyone tell me if these third party SW tools are compatible with Snow Leopard if they work OK with 10.5 Leopard?
Does anyone have a list of things that DON'T work with 10.6 Snow leopard?
    Thanks,

  • How can I find out if my mac has a trojan with out third party software?

I'm trying to find out if my mac has a Trojan on it. I got a pop from a tech support site warning my computer security could be compromised. I did not click any of the links in the site but did call the number. I got very suspisious when they told me the were certified microsoft tech support and told me there was "something band inside my computer". I'm pretty sure they were bogus and just going to try to sell me junk. But after much research I'm very concerned about the ramifications if I do had some kind of Trojan. I have done a bunch of research, most of the content I have found is from 2012/13. Don't want to purchase apps-sounds like there not that great, even ClamXav which can get stuck in a loop as stated on their site. I don't know much about DNS but sounds like it is may the fix. Does anyone know a good source for current info on Trojans and how to detect them. I'm running OSX 10.7.5 and an older iMac.

That's mostly been fixed for a long time now and can easily be avoided by following the instructions.

  • EFilm Lite for Mac OS X or a freeware third party viewer to view DICOM medical images?

    Hello.
Does anyone know if there is an eFilm Lite software for Mac OS X (10.5.8 and 10.8.4)? One of the medical doctors gave my client a burned CD with scanned X-rays, but we were unable to read the encrypted(?) 522 KB DCIM X-Ray image(?) files [Terminal showed "file IM000000" showed "IM000000: DICOM medical imaging data" and none of Windows, Mac, and Linux can view them] and run Windows software (want to avoid installing Windows dual boot and running a virtual machine to make things more complex for him).
I was unable to find any Mac downloads on http://www.merge.com/ web site (e-mailed [email protected] and currently waiting for a reply/response [probably not until next regular short USA work week], but probably won't get a good answer).
    Thank you in advance.

FYI. 10.8.4 was perfect, but not for 10.5.8.
    http://www.osirix-viewer.com/OldVersions.html says
    http://www.osirix-viewer.com/OldVersions/OsiriX4.0-Int.pkg.zip is 10.5 compatible, but
running its unzipped pkg file tells me it needs 10.6 or higher.
I also tried http://www.osirix-viewer.com/OldVersions/OsiriX4.1.2.pkg-Int.zip to see if
the web site got the files swapped. Nope!
I have contacted the support through its e-mail address and Yahoo! forum about this.

  • Third party spam filters

Mail's adaptive junk filter is being overwhelmed by the flood of email I'm getting at my email address. I can't abandon the address any time soon because I advertise it, and get new customers by email reply.
Is it possible to route my email to a commercial third party server, which will do a better job of identifying spam (with a minimum of false positives and false negatives) and then route it back to my usual mail server, or some similar arrangement?
If so, who do you recommend? Does it work that much better than Mail's adaptive junk filter?
    Thanks in advance,

Third party message handlers like MessageLabs do a very good job at filtering mail, catching viruses, etc. , but I'm not sure how many of them offer services to individuals.
You might want to look at installing SpamSeive first. http://c-command.com/spamsieve/.
It gets good reviews and at $30 would be less expensive than paying a monthly fee to a service company.

  • Third-party optical drives

I had a Mad Dog CD/DVD burner sitting around, so I decided to throw it into the second bay. It worked at first, but it quickly stopped responding, and any program that tries to access the optical drives freezes up. Is the Mac Pro just not compatible with third-party drives?
Both drives are set to Cable Select. I'll try setting the first one to master, and the second one to slave and see if that makes the problem disappear.

When you say programs freeze when they try to access the drives do you mean both drives? And do you mean even to use them to read? If it's both drives that does sound like a problem with how the drives are jumpered, although cable select should work. Maybe the problem is with the Mad Dog drive not liking to be set that way.
Any drive you put in the system should work as a reader under 10.4.10, Patchburn is generally used to allow a newer drive to work with an older version of the OS and with the I-Apps to burn. But you are already running 10.4.10, which should see that drive - and we know it did see the drive. Under System Profiler, what does it say for the drive About this mac > more info >hardware >disc burning. It may not say Mad Dog, since they put their name on other people's drives, but I'd be curious as to what it says under burn support. That will give us a good idea to what degree the system is going to work with the drive.
There is always the possibility that the Mad Dog is dying. If symptoms return in the master/slave configuration that may have been the problem all along.
Let's hope that's not the case.

  • Reinstalling Mac OS X Leopard

I need to reinstall Mac OS X leopard, which came with my laptop, to Erase & Install, due to various things, I wanted to know if iLife is on those DVDs that came with the computer, or do I have to buy them. I hope I don't, but I really need to reinstall by Erase & Install. Can someone help?

No - Yes - It depends...
Did your Mac come with Leopard? Then YES, all of the bundled applications are on the original setup discs that came with your computer.
Did you upgrade from Tiger? Then NO, the applications are not on the Leopard disc, and you will need to reinstall them by using your original discs and running the "Bundled Applications" installer after you have reinstalled Leopard.
I'd use SuperDuper to make a bootable clone of your OS to an external drive before you flush everything with an Erase and Install, just in case... of anything else you're forgetting

  • Third party software updates wont open on leopard

I've recently downloaded two or three third party software updates (Neooffice and VMware fusion examples). After the large downloads disk utility seems to mount a disk image successfully after which you usually get a new page containing a 'upgrade software' yellow and orange cube, a read me file and an uninstall option. When I double click the 'upgrade software' cube it starts to expand as if its going to do something and then nothing, nothing at all ! Normally on Tiger hitting this update cube will initiate the upgrade but on my Leopard I seem to be drawing a blank on third party software. The apple software updates seem to function correctly.
    Any ideas ?

I would first try redownloading the software updates. If that fails, I would make a backup of your system with Time Machine and do a clean install of Mac OS X, though I really don't think this is a system issue.

  • Third party network software to connect SnowLeopard Mac Pro to OS 9 G4?

Since Apple pulled AppleTalk from Snow Leopard, I'm wondering if there is a third party bit of software out there that would allow me to connect a MacPro running Snow Leopard to a G4 running OS 9.
In the meantime I will be going back to 10.5, but I'd much prefer to have my MacPro running the latest greatest...

It doesn't work. From what I can gather, Snow Leopard requires AFP 3.0 to connect. Mac OS 9 only went to AFP 2.2. This has nothing to to with AppleTalk, which hasn't been used for file sharing in some time. It's just an incompatible version of AFP.

  • Custom Leopard boot DVD with third party apps

I am trying to create an boot DVD single layer of Leopard in order to boot from another source than the Macintosh HD and use third party applications to do some maintenance on my new mac.
How can we create a boot image to be burned on a DVD with extra third party apps on it which will be available after having booted from that DVD. For example, I might want to add a few extra application like iDefrag, TechTool, etc... I do want to have the choice of putting what I want and not use their boot disk utilities to create the DVD.
I could not find anything regarding add such third party apps, but I do not how to create a slimmed down version of Leopard that fits on a single layer instead of a dual layer like my original.

    Thanks,

Ok then if I follow these instruction to create a clone on iPod (http://lifehacker.com/338574/install-leopard-with-your-ipod), then removed the extra stuff, could I add a few apps or I will still be stuck with the installation interface of Leopard when I boot from this?
I know coriolis CDMaker can do a quick bootable DVD of Leopard with its apps on it, but it is pretty customised to their application and only see their app, no options to browse through the content of the bootable DVD.

  • I am going to upgrade from leopard to snow leopard ( I just purchased the snow leopard disk today).  Will I be able to keep my data and third party programs after installation?

    Hi Apple Community,
This is my first time using the Apple Support Communities.  After installing/upgrading to snow leopard from disk will I lose my data and my third party programs like Adobe Indesign?
    Thank you in advance,
    John

    John... welcome to ASC,
You could if you don't backup everything to an external drive first. Always backup your important data before upgrading from one Mac OS to the next.

  • Formatting music from windows to a mac using third party app

i used a third party app so that i could download music from a pc onto my os x formatted ipod. initially it worked when i moved the music into my itunes library on my mac, but for some reason now a lot of the tracks won't play and my computer freezes if i press play on any track that originally was downloaded onto a pc. is there a way to identify where the songs came from and then delete then from the library without going through each one a seeing if it will play and then having to force quit itunes because it freezes?

From what I know, windows will not recognize the complicated data of a mac formatted device; hence not recognizing it. Macs can recognize a windows formated ipod though, so if you decide to reformat it on windows, then you can use it on both computers. If you dont though, looks like you are out of luck, sorry.
    Hope I helped.

  • Is there a way to have MSOffice-Mac on my MacBook Air sync wirelessly (and non-manually) with iWork on my iPhone without a third-party app?

I purchased a MacBook Air after hearing that it can sync wirelessly with all iOS devices. I then purchased the iWork office for my college courses and found out that the school requires online students like me to use Microsoft Office for Mac. An Apple phone rep explained that this software syncs in read-only mode with the iPhone. Is there really no way - besides third party software like Dropbox, Windows Live SkyDrive, or Docs To Go - for me to sync my homework between iWork on my iPhone and MS Office my new MacBook?

Go through this article: How to back up your data and set up as a new device or do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.
