  • Mac OS X Leopard v10.5.1 on PC

    Hi everybody ..
i read that Mac OS X Leopard v10.5.1 OSx86 can be installed on PC.
    is it true ?
and what are the requirements ?
    Thanks.

Aside from the legal & moral issues involved, there are technical ones as well. OS X is designed to support the specific hardware in Macs, not any generic "X86" hardware you might happen to have in your PC. This includes not only things like graphics or wireless cards but also the particular variants of CPU's & support chips that are the heart of the computer.
It is often assumed that Apple uses the same off-the-shelf Intel chips that PC makers use when building Intel Macs, but this is not true. The chips are the result of a collaboration between Apple & Intel, & are not available to any other vendor. They are similar to the generic parts (if they weren't, Intel Macs could not run Windows) but there are enough differences to affect the stability of a non-Mac system, even one that is constructed with the closest off-the-shelf match to the Apple parts.
So even if you manage to tweak the firmware, the installer, & the OS to get the PC to run some version of OS X, & somehow manage to find compatible drivers for all its hardware, you are not going to get a stable, full-featured platform. (The effect is much like using out-of-spec RAM: timing issues can cause seemingly random errors that result in poor performance, crashes, or data loss.)
Aside from that, each time Apple updates the OS, you have to figure out some way to apply it to your system, which would likely mean more hacking. If you don't apply the updates, not only do you not get the other benefits they provide, you don't get the fixes that close security holes in the OS ... ones that any malicious hacker can then read about from public sources & attempt to exploit.
IOW, if you are looking for a secure, stable platform for any serious work, this is not for you. At best, it is a hobby project for those who just want to prove it can be done but aren't too picky about legality or complete functionality.

  • How do I update Mac OS X Leopard v10.5?

Is there a way to update Mac OS X Leopard v10.5 on my old MacBook? When I check for new software, it says there are no updates available. The updates available online require 10.6 or better.

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks/Yosemite- System Requirements

             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory

  • Mac App Store needs real System Requirements for Games

After reading about the 2011 Apple Design Awards I decided to download Anomaly: Warzone Earth from the Mac App Store. The system requirements listed are "Mac OS X 10.6 or later".
My 2006 MacBook Pro runs 10.6.7 fine, so I thought I would be able to play, but my 2 GHz Intel Core Duo, 2 GB ram, and ATI X1600 graphics card are apparently nowhere near fast enough to actually play the game. Sure, the app launches, but the menu interface is jerky and the actual gameplay is completely unplayable. Instead of even laggy lo-res graphics, the screen is just a blank grey field with no visuals.
If the App Store told me more specifically that a faster graphics card, more video memory, or a faster processor were required to play, I would have not bought the game (or at least waited until I upgraded my computer).
I was tempted to try the game on my Windows 7 partition via Bootcamp (since Windows seems to have better graphics drivers and can often run the same games faster) but I don't feel like shelling out more money for another version that likely won't run.
    TL;DR
I wish the Mac App Store listed real system requirements, instead of just assuming that nobody would keep using the same computer for five years.

I have a dual processor 500MHz G4 Mac. the requirements for Leopard state >800Mhz for a G4 machine. Does a dual processor at 500MHz qualify? If so will I see a performance hit vs Tiger?

Bobbbo, I have a G4 GE with Leo and it installed and runs just fine. However, I have a processor upgrade, a video card upgrade and the ram is maxxed out. There are issue with some applications ( Time Machine, Front Row, iDVD, etc) if installed without the CPU upgrades.

My Mac Mini (v10.6.8) does not acknowledge my iphone as a device in iPhoto, Image Capture, iSync or Preview although, iTunes does.  I am at a loss for importing photos other than emailing them to myself. Same problem with my iphone 4, iphone 4s, ipad2 and New iPad. Is this a problem with OS X 10.6.8 as I read some posts claim? Please help.

I was able to import photos in iPhoto and Image capture when I was running SL 10.6.8 on my older MacBook.
Did you try quitting everything, restart the Mac and then try again?
Are there any updates at all for the Mac? I was helping one user not all that long ago and there were updates for her Mac software that had nothing to do with the OS and when she downloaded the updates - the iPad was then recognized in iTunes.

  • Sony e reader prs 600 not showing in bookmark pane on my new Mac with Snow Leopard

I have a brand new sony e reader prs 600 it is supported but I am unable to see it on the bookmark pane in my new Mac with Snow Leopard is it something to do with Snow leopard?  Or why can I not see my sony e reader?  thank you

According to the Adobe website ADE 1.7.1 is compatible with Mac if you
look at system requirements and with the Sony reader if you look at
supported devices.  Though it doesn't mention Macs latest O/S.
and if I download an Adobe digital editions book, can I then move it
to Sony's ebook software, or is the format unsupported on the Sony
    Ereader?

  • Can't upgrade my PowerBook G4, now at 10.4.11 to 10.5. It meets all system requirements!

I need to upgrade my PowerBook G4 to 10.5 so that I can use the current version of iTunes. When I talked to the Apple tech guy he said my PowerBook specs indicate that it can run OS 10.5. Specs are: PowerBook G4 15" 1.5Ghz 1 GB memory plenty of disc space, Firewire and attached screen. All listed on the install disc for 10.5. When I start up the install, I select English and two seconds later a window pops up saying it can't install on this computer. Doesn't state why or what is missing! ARGGHH!! I double checked everything, ran disk utility, opened the battery compartment to verify (1.5GHz/1GB/80G/SuperDrive/BT/APX/Backlit KB). So all hardware requirements are met.
The disc says Mac OS version 10.5, AHT version 3A137, Disc version 1.0, 2Z691-6150-A.
    Can anyone help?
    Mike

Leopard, OS 10.5.x is the last OS X version that you can install on a powerPC procesor Mac.

  • System requirements 10.5

Thinking of upgrading my Powerbook G4 1.25 Ghz running Tiger 10.4.11.  What are the minimum hardware requirements for Leopard 10.1 - 10.5.  If I buy an early version, like 10.5.1 will the upgrades for Leopard become available after installing?  The prices I have seen for this OS are all the way from $30 to $200. Why is there such a range?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Apple's price is $129. Due to the limited supply, some seller charge more. The $30 installer may be a gray disk which will only work on specific models. A retail version is black with a gray X. You need a retail version that can be used on any Mac.

  • System Requirements for program

There is a program I want to install onto my Mac, but one of the system requirements is running it on OS X 10.1.5-10.3. I have OS X 10.5.7, so will it be able to run on my version?

The chances are it will - Apple has very good backwards compatibility.
It's unusual for any developer to be so specific about OS versions. I'm guessing that 10.5.3 was the current version at the time they released their application and they didn't think about later versions. Most vendors say "10.5.0 or later".
Or maybe they did think about that and just said 10.5 through 10.5.3 just to cover their own butts.
Either way there's no harm in trying. Or ask the developers themselves. There's no way anyone here can advise you any different (e.g. say that it definitely will work or it definitely won't), especially since we have no idea of the application in question.

My operating system is Mac OS X 10.6.8 and when I'm surfing the web, it tells me I need to update my browser however when I check for updates, nothing comes up. What do I need to do to get Mac OS X Lion v10.7?

Software update will only bring you up to the current level of the system you are using - you are at the maximum for Snow Leopard. To get Lion or higher you will have to go to the Mac App Store in Applications and purchase it there (Yosemite is free). You will need to check that your Mac meets the requirements and you should particularly note that PPC programs such as AppleWorks will not run in Lion or above.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price (though it's reported to have been removed from sale in some countries so may well cease to be available generally) but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Yosemite (10.10.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Yosemite are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Yosemite is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications). Mountain Lion can be obtained the Online Apple Store. (Mavericks is no longer available.)
If the problem is only with Safari and you are otherwise happy with Snow Leopard you could switch to FireFox (free) - the latest version of that will run in Snow Leopard.
