My Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 briefly recognizes my nano iPod and then it disappears from my desktop and devices list, subsequently iTunes doesn't not recognize or sync with my nano iPod, what should I do?
There were a few suggestions that you did not clarify (if you tried them or not). At this point (based on what you have stated), the problem could be on the iPod or it could be the USB connection to the Mac. It could also be the USB docking cable, but since it connects initially, it is probably OK. You should rule out a problem with the USB port on the Mac.
I suggested shutting down (powering off) the Mac. Did you do that, and then start it back up? If the Mac is a MacBook, you may need to do more because it has a battery.
I suggested disconnecting all other USB device (except for standard keyboard and mouse if used), and connecting the iPod to a direct USB port on the Mac (by itself). Did you do that?
You can also try connecting another device, preferably something similar like a USB flash drive, to the USB port you used with the iPod, to confirm the same thing does not happen and it works properly. Does it connect and stay connected?
Those steps will help confirm that problem is not the USB connection (on the Mac side).
To do a Restore, it needs to have a stable connection, so that the iPod appears in iTunes. When you select the iPod in iTunes, the screen that appears is the iPod's Summary screen. But if the iPod does not stay connected in Disk Mode, doing a Restore will not help. In Disk Mode, the iPod should act like it is a storage device.
Try this... Connect the iPod. Instead of running iTunes (quit iTunes if running), run Disk Utility. Does the iPod's disk appear in the Disk Utility sidebar?

Also, I am trying to connect my Mini from the mini-Displayport to the Displayport of my Dell U2410 monitor. The image is very grainy,even though it is set to the correct resolution: 1920 X 1200 at 60Hz. If I use HDMI to VGA input, the image is much clearer. I'm seeing a great many devicemgr and rake errors in my system log. I don't know if they're related. How 'bout you?
If you're unfamiliar with the system log…
Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
If necessary, choose View > Show Log List.
system.log is at the top of the FILES section.
Try searching it for hot words like DEBUG, FATAL, and aborted.
I've found some discussions that would tend to indicate my errors are postGres related – I'm running OS X server.

If you hear a clicking noise, as in mechanical I'd be thinking along the lines of failing hard drive. Especially as you mention other problems.
Boot from another disk if you have one and do a verify disk or use somethinglike Disk Warrior or Tech Tool. -
Hi can anyone help with a mac that had magnet put on it. I turned it on and then off but a white screen appears with a file with a question mark on it?
File icon with ? mark on it means it can't read from the hard drive. The hard drive is now wiped or bad. If just wiped then you will need to reinstall your operating system, OS X. If bad you will need to replace the drive.
Start with booting the computer from the OS X install DVD that came with your system. If the Mac came with Lion Pre-Installed then you use the Lion internet recovery system to reinstall (Hold down Command+r keys or Command+Option+r keys to boot the computer from over the internet to the Lion recovery HD system).

I need help Syncing my ipod to my mac. It has music on the mac currently but I want both my ipod music and the mac music together but it says i have to delete my ipod and only have the Laptop music on it. is there anyway to have both?
I got a Mac and started buying music on it, and My PC has all of my whole Itunes library which is like 1000+. Well I want to put all of my music on my Mac, But everytime I plug it in and ask it to sync all music it tells me that I have to erase my Ipod and sync in with the music on my Mac... Can you transfer hd video directly from an ipod touch to the ipad 2 and then EDIT that video in imovie? I will be on the road and wont have a mac, just an ipad 2 and ipod touch. I want to shoot video on the touch and edit it on the ipad. Thanks!

I know from watching the keynote speech about icloud and iOS 5 that you will be able to cut the cord between the pc and ios devices like the ipad. No more need to sync them via a cord. So will that mean i would then be able to load video directly to the ipad via tha cam kit connector from my ipod? Also i wonder if/when Apple will allow HD video from on Apple devices like a canon dslr to be able to transfer to the ipad via the cam kit connector AND be able to EDIT that footage in imovie for the ipad. Speaking of imovie for the ipad...i hope it gets an update soon as well.
Anyway....with the macbook airs getting updated next week with thunderbolt and new sandy bridge chips....i may just get one of them instead of the ipad 2 for editing video on the road. Still...i prefer surfing the web experience on the ipad. Grrrrrrr. **** youuuuuuu Apple!!! Lol -

I just bought a Canon Vixia HF R300 camcorder. It looks like it gives me a choice of two recording modes AVCHD or MP4. I will be uploading onto a year old Mac Mini with the Lion Operating system and increased ram. I will be editing in iMovie '11 then uploading to You Tube. Which recording mode should I use? Obviously I'd like to get the best quality but I also want it to show well on You Tube. What do you think? Thanks for the help. BillHi

Use this file in iDVD or Roxio Toast™ or what DVD Authoring program You've got.
To make a VIDEO-DVD You must use a DVD Authoring program - to get the right compression format AND Structure - It is a MUST.
There are free alternatives - but resulting DVD hasve been far from what quality iDVD (and Toast™) will deliver.
To get best possibly DVD - also this counts.
- DVD brand used - I only Verbatim
- DVD type used - I only DVD-R Single layer (4.7Gb)
(DVD+R works for many and DVD-R/W usually don't work OK and Double Layer also are a problem to it self)
- BURN SPEED - I set this as low possibly (usually x2)
- Free Space on Start-Up Hard Disk - MATTERS - I never go less than 25Gb

I evaluated the internal temp (using Istats pro) and it is at 86.5 degrees feh (about 22 c*). Is that normal? What tools can I utilize to ensure that the internal system prevents from overheating. I have the Mac running on a cooling fan.

My concern is that the temperature you reported is abnormally low. Thus I would like to see an image of the temperature monitor. In sounds more like Centigrade.
Also post an image of Activity Monitor showing ALL PROCESSES and % CPU displaying values from high to low. This way we can determine if the temperature readings reflect the activity being performed on the MBP.

It's ok to do this even if you are already running v10.6.7.
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed.
Then try the MAS.

I have an iPhone 4 that I am unable to back up to either a PC or a Mac. It's running iOS4 and has never been backed up. I want to transfer everything to my iPhone 4s, but since I can't back it up, I can't transfer anything. Any ideas?

You need to upgrade to Snow Leopard, but don't need to go past 10.6.8 to run the current version of Flash.
