Mac OS X Lion bugs

When is Apple going to realase an update to fix the uncountable bugs in Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1? So far I have found the following:
1. In Preview, when visualizing a PDF document in "Table of contents" mode, Preview changes the view mode to "Zoom to Fit" and then one no longer can zoom in. Pressing Command+= will not zoom in. Going to "View > Zoom In" has no effect. The "Zoom out" works fine.
2. When viewing more than one pdf document in Preview with "Table of contents" mode, it is impossible to select one of the documents to be sent to print. Having multiple documents open and then using the menu File>Print will only print all documents together. If you have one particular document being displayed in Preview, with multiple documents open, selecting menu File>Print or pressing Command+P will always show you a window with all the documents to be printed.
3. Safari disables an extension when there is an update.
4. When an email server goes offline, Mail asks for a password.
5. When an email server goes offline, Mail keeps asking for a password indefintely until the user press "Cancel". After that, Mail stops from checking emails on that account forever. Pressing the toolbar button "Check email [in all accounts]" does nothing, even though the user may believe that Mail has checked the account and found no new emails. One is then forced to display the "Mailboxes" side bar, which now will show the account that went offline with a "disconnected" icon, select the account with the issue then open the pop up menu and select "Get new mail from [account]". This is the only way Mail will continue to check for email acounts after issue 4.
These were all in Mac OS X Lion 10.7.0 as well.

Recently, there has been a bug on my Mac OS X Lion, while trashing an iphoto the errant pic does not go to trash bin, but simply disappears! Which makes it impossible to change my mind. The trash remains empty, yet the pic is gone, and I never even emptied the trash (because it never made it to the trash)! How to recover the album I just accidently made disappear in this way?

Sorry - there have been no updates to that system for a long time
Try to backup your iPhoto library and lanch iPhoto while holding the option and cannoned keys down - repair permissions and if needed rebuild the database

Give details of the problem. A statement such as "it doesn't work" conveys no information. If it did work, you wouldn't be here. Instead, you should post something like this: "I did A; I was expecting B; but I got C instead." Include the complete text of any error messages you saw and where you saw them: in an application window, a CrashReporter window, a log, or whatever. Also include the steps you’ve taken yourself, if any, to try to resolve the issue. If the problem is of recent origin, did you make any changes to your setup just before you first noticed it? Is the problem reproducible or intermittent? That is, does it always manifest itself when you take a certain action, or only at unpredictable times?
Before posting, ask yourself whether it’s likely that you are the the only person ever to have had this problem. If not, search the discussions for answered questions similar to yours. If you found any pertinent information, but it didn't help, include details.

  • Mac OS X Lion and Java7 + JavaFX2.1 performance issues

Currently I'm using the JavaFX 2.1 GA Build with Mac OS X Lion (10.7.3) on my MacBook Pro (2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, ATI Radeon X1600 256 MB) an run into some performance and ui problems. The overall rendering framerate is arround ~30fps (which is normally 60fps on my desktop computer) and if I try to resize the main window the window starts to flicker and I get the following exception:
Glass detected outstanding Java exception at -[GlassRunnable run]:src/com/sun/mat/ui/GlassApplication.m:163

For JavaFX applications to take advantage of the new hardware acceleration pipeline provided by JavaFX, your system must feature one of a wide range of GPUs currently available in the market. Table 1 lists the graphics cards that have been tested with JavaFX. If your system does not support hardware acceleration, then JavaFX uses the Java2D software pipeline.
For Mac OS X, the following standard Apple hardware graphics chips provide the required support:
    - Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor with 288MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory
    - AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR5 memoryYour graphics card is not on that list, so JavaFX is falling back to a software pipeline, which does not work that well for you. You may not be able to resolve some performance issues when using a software pipline. You can log an issue at http://javafx-jira.kenai.com to request the NullPointerException be fixed - as that should not occur in any case and is a bug.

  • Mac OS X Lion Server screen freezes frequently

I have recently purchased the Mac Mini Server with 8GB RAM Upgrade and have been experiencing screen freezes frequently. The Mac Mini is connected to a ViewSonic LED Monitor via an HDMI cable and is running Mac OS X Lion Server.
It all started a month ago and I suspected it was due to an external hard disk I had. When I removed it the problem didn't crop up for a few weeks. So I thought the issue was resolved.
Over the past week the problem re-surfaced again and nearly everyday I am experiencing screen freezing about five times a day and the only option is to power down my Mac Mini Server from the power button. This is becoming increasingly frustrating. When screen freezing occurs, everything freezes and I get some small rectangular boxes on screen moving.
The only things that have changed over the past week was that I installed the latest Safari fix and connected the Harman Kardon Sounsticks II to the Mac Mini.
Can't understand what is happening. From various threads I read, many mac users are experiencing screen freezes. If anyone has any resolutions please let me know.

Lion has a screen refresh bug it is just the screen going to sleep and the the screen updating only where the curser moves.

  • PDF edits with Mac OS X Lion Aperçu don't show up on iPad: anyone with this issue?

I am using a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Lion, and an iPad 2 with iOS 5. If I edit PDF files with Aperçu, the drawings or texts I have added do not display on the iPad 2. Is this a known Apple bug? Does anyone else have this problem?

Actually, it is in iBooks that I have this problem with PDF files that have been edited with Aperçu. With iPad Safari, the PDF edits are displayed correctly, through Google docs PDF viewer; I have not tried with iPad Safari independantly from Google docs, but I think it won't work. It does not work in iPad mail for such edited PDF files that are attached to a message.

  • Firefox 5 Crashes Repeatedly in Mac OS X Lion

I have been using Firefox 5 on the Mac OS X Lion developer preview for a few days now, and Firefox crashes over and over again.
If I have more than 2 tabs open, Firefox can't last more than 20 minutes without crashing. I have submitted multiple crash reports.

    Hi John99,
Thanks for TRYING to help, but you're not really helping by telling us to try a version of Firefox that is 2 down from the current (and SHOULD be stable). This support board is supposed to help the developers to fix the bug and release a NEWER (not 3.6.X) version of the browser.
I am also running Lion GM with Firefox 5 and I do have the same problem as reported initially. Apple fixed/broke something in Lion that caused this problem. Mozilla needs to figure out what that is and fix their software.
That is all. '''Please escalate this bug because Lion will be out in a week or two.'''
    Thank you!

Apple seems to be naming their operating sytems usability based on the respective turd size of the feline in question. Lions are big, very, very, very big.
I had a system that served me well for 2 years until I mistaking bought a new machine which runs mega-turd (Lion). Foolish me, now nothing works properly, its a daily struggle to get anything working smoothly using my NEW mac mini. All my other machines work fine, even the windows machines and my Android tablet see all the network components and can talk to each other.
My Internet service is over 3g which I share to the house using internet sharing via my brand new €800 mac mini running POS Lion, everytime the service is interrupted, Kaboom, the mini resets the DHCP server, but doesn't seem to refresh any of the components so connections drop everywhere.
Its amateur hour at Apple folks.
There are several posts alone relating to internet sharing, I have submitted a bug report relating to the non user controllable DHCP server (which may be at fault), but the response / solution from Apple was lacklustre and ultimately didn't work.
    See this, there are some work around's in there;

  • Lion - Changing Custom Website File Location - Potential Lion Bug

I had an interesting problem while setting up and transferring my custom website from a Windows 2003 server to my new Mac Mini 2011 Lion server.  I was able to get the site transferred and working correctly.  Took a bit of manipulating /etc/apache2...* files but good to go.  Now for the interesting part.
I decided to RAID 1 my two intertnal drives so I used SuperDuper (not affiliated with them ... use it if you want) and cloned my boot partition to a MyBook drive I had laying around, rebooted, Raided and cloned back.  All good there.  For some reason I had the bright idea to move my custom web site files to the MyBook.  Did that and all good.
I later came to my senses and tried to move the custom site files back to the RAID 1 partition.  Could not do it.  Neither through the Server.app interface or via manual entry of /etc/apache2...* files.  The solution appears to be due to a potential bug in Lion and Lion Server.app.  I found that under directory /etc/apache2/extra the file httpd-vhosts.conf was not being updated by Server.app.  Once I changed the file location there all is well.
Hope this helps any of you with the same problem.

    Hello, James here.
The reason why you can't find the "System Sounds" folder is because Apple have hidden it in a slightly different location in OS X Lion 10.7.x
To get to the directory with the "Volume Mount" file you need to go to...
Macintosh HD > System > Library > Components > CoreAudio (right-click and show package contents) > Contents > SharedSupport > System Sounds > system
    Hope this helped!

  • How to install the mac os x lion???

i have installed the mac os x lion developer review. now im trying to install the offcial one but it doesnt work.
it says :"this disk cannot be used to start up your computer".
    please help!!!

I would submit the bug request to the Developer feedback mechanisms.  Your action of running the Developer preview is under a non-disclosure agreement.  Hence any issues with the Preview should only be submitted via the channels you got the Developer preview from within.  One that is known to all is http://bugreporter.apple.com/ If you got it without ever getting a non-disclosure agreement, you are in violation of Apple's agreements and should erase it from your machine, and start over again with a licensed 10.6 that either was first used to install 10.6 on your machine, or a newer retail edition.  10.6 came in 10.6, and 10.6.3 retail editions.  If your Mac was new after March 1st, 2010, it came with its own Mac Mini 10.6.3 or later installer disc which must be used to install 10.6.  Otherwise the retail 10.6.3 should work, as long as it doesn't say Upgrade, Dropin, OEM, or any specific Mac model.  Finally, apply the 10.6.6, 10.6.7, 10.6.8 combo update before upgrading to Lion from the Mac App Store if all your applications are ready for Lion.

  • Should I upgrade to Mac OS X Lion?

Seeing as the new iCloud integration by Apple requires Mac OS X Lion (10.7.2 specifically), I was thinking about upgrading from Snow Leopard.  My main applications are Lightroom and Photoshop CS5 (latest versions for both).  I saw a document from Adobe describing some Lion bugs and also noticed some posts in this forum.  Can someone who is running Lion and Photoshop CS5/Lightroom give me an overall impression of whether it is worth it to upgrade from Snow Leopard?  In daily use, will I run into many issues?  I want iCloud but I don't want to introduce problems with the Adobe apps I use the most.  Thanks.

    Hello Howie,
If its a production machine, and you have no back-up combo? This is my experience:
I'm a professional photographer. I run Photoshop CS5 on a new Mac Mini Server running Lion. I find it difficult to get a professional workflow with this combo because i have big issues with brushes not working properly, as mentioned in these threads: (and in threads on the Apple Forum)
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3913459
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3943355
I contacted Apple here in the Netherlands (phone helpdesk) and lead them to these threads. They said they had never heard of it (not even their technical second line). Even though an Adobe employee in these threads aknowledges the problems?!
I contacted Adobe here in the Netherlands, they said it was an Apple issue and should be solved with 10.7.2. Dowloaded 10.7.2. yesterday but that didn't fix it.
People here at the forum suggest that it has to do with the Apple driver for the Intel HD 3000 Graphic Card. Looks like Apple engineers are so bussy with getting even the basic stuff working with Lion that the problems with (third party?) applications have to wait.
(I haven't even mentioned al the other big bugs i experience: wifi dropping constantly, sleep problems, wake problems, external screen wake-up problems)
This is the worst upgrade i ever did. I've been using Mac for 20 years now, always was like an ambassador for them. I like the new Mail for the rest I'm verry dissapointed. . .  .
    Jerry.

  • MacBook Pro crashing with Mac OS X Lion

After upgrading my MacBook Pro (15" mid 2010 model) to Mac OS X Lion, it frequently crashes. What happens is : the display turns black without any previous warning or error message and then my notebook restarts. Has anybody experienced the same bug?

Lion will come pre installed. Move your Data over with Set-Up Assistant on initial boot.

  • Restoring a Time Machine backup on Mac OS X Lion

I planned on doing a fresh install of Mac OS X Lion — and clearing the hard drive and applications — rather than simply updating and keeping all my data. I figured a clean update could limit any bugs or issues I'd have.
I currently have a Time Machine backup from my computer running OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I wanted to ask if I could restore this backup onto the wiped machine once I've installed Lion. It's important for me to restore the Time Machine backup not only for my files and accounts, but also applications like the Adobe Creative Suite 5 where I only have licensing to download one copy. Is this possible, or is there any better way to do this? Thanks!

Unless you're having problems you can't fix any other way, there's no reason to do that.   In most cases, just upgrading is the easiest, quickest, most reliable way to go.

If you do a full system restore, that will restore Snow Leopard.
Without a second partition or external HD, there's no easy way to erase your system, then install Lion, since you need Snow Leopard to do the download.
You can, if you really want to, download Lion, but don't install it directly; instead, copy the installer to a DVD, USB stick, or partition on an internal or external HD.  See Making a Lion Install disc or partition for instructions.
Then erase your internal HD and install Lion from the copied installer, then when your Mac starts up, use Setup Assistant to transfer everything else from your backups.  You may, however, have to re-enter purchase keys or serial numbers for some 3rd-party apps.  See How do I set up a new Mac from an old one, its backups, or a PC? for details.
But in most cases the result will be exactly the same as simply upgrading.
