Mac OS X Lion Issues

I have recently bought and installed Mac OS X Lion on to my iMac, the issues I have been having is mainly to do with speed, my mac does not seem as quick as it used to be with Snow Leopard. This mainly happens when opening mission control to switch to other windows and apps, and then especially when opening launchpad. Another issue is when I go onto an application like Skype it seems to really lag when making a video call, although this issue had never happened in Snow Leopard. I have tried repairing permissions in Disk Utility, updating all of my apps and freeing up some hard disk space, yet nothing has really seemed to help with these issues.
The specs of my iMac is:
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 128 MB
20 Inch Monitor
250 GB HDD
This is also the early 2008 model of the iMac.
Any help with getting my mac running at normal speeds would be great!
Thanks!

I have a MacPro (2007), a MacBook Air (2010), an iPad2, and two iPhones. All have been updated to the current versions of their respective OS's. Everything is working very well. I could not be happier. iCloud is much improved over MobileMe as just one example.
Maybe its the 6 gigs of ram in the MacPro or the 4 gigs of ram in the MacBook Air. Maybe all you guys are short on memory.
Thanks Apple!
Steve: We miss you man; we really miss you!

  • Mac Mini (Mtn Lion) issues

    Hello,
I have a Mac Mini Server (2009) that had both HDDs fail some time ago. When I opened it up, I gave it a new SSD and a new HDD.
I used it just fine for about a year. The thing started acting "funny" like only being able to boot it by holding option and going to the main volume (SSD) and then would work fine. But if I restarted, it would just grey-screen and lock there forever. The only way to boot ti was to option-boot into it, then it worked fine.
Well, I bit the bullet and spent $150 thinking that maybe after a year my SSD had gone bad. A new SSD arrived, and I did a clean install (used the method of making a bootable USB and installed MTN straight from that, not doing the upgrade from snow leopard to lion to mtn lion.
it worked great for about 3 days.
Today, When I turn it on, it starts to boot, goes to the silver screen with the apple, but something new i hadn't seen before appears - a progress bar.
It starts to increase, then the screen goes black and the mini turns off.
I option-booted into recovery, and that worked, so I launched disk utility. Checked the drive, it's fine.
Checked the partition, and I get "Invalid Record Count" - The volume could not be verified completely. Error: this disk needs to be repaired, Click repair disk.
So, I did. Then I get "Disk utility stopped verifying the volume. This disk needs to be repair. Click Repair Disk.
    So I do that again.
I get "Error: Disk utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files."
Here's the thing. How did this happen? How do I back stuff up, remove the drive ? Again?     Is this indicating a bad SSD out of the box? Or is it time to give my mini "the hard goodbye" and drop it off the side of my boat and watch it sink, drink a pbr, and start saving for a new box?

If there's nothing in the card slot, you shouldn't be seeing that message. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to bare metal from any of them.) Don’t erase the Lion recovery partition, if present.

  • Mac OS X Lion and Java7 + JavaFX2.1 performance issues

Currently I'm using the JavaFX 2.1 GA Build with Mac OS X Lion (10.7.3) on my MacBook Pro (2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, ATI Radeon X1600 256 MB) an run into some performance and ui problems. The overall rendering framerate is arround ~30fps (which is normally 60fps on my desktop computer) and if I try to resize the main window the window starts to flicker and I get the following exception:

    2.1 system requirements =>
    http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/system_requirements_2-1/jfxpub-system_requirements_2-1.htm
For JavaFX applications to take advantage of the new hardware acceleration pipeline provided by JavaFX, your system must feature one of a wide range of GPUs currently available in the market. Table 1 lists the graphics cards that have been tested with JavaFX. If your system does not support hardware acceleration, then JavaFX uses the Java2D software pipeline.
For Mac OS X, the following standard Apple hardware graphics chips provide the required support:
    - Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor with 288MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory
    - AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR5 memoryYour graphics card is not on that list, so JavaFX is falling back to a software pipeline, which does not work that well for you. You may not be able to resolve some performance issues when using a software pipline. You can log an issue at http://javafx-jira.kenai.com to request the NullPointerException be fixed - as that should not occur in any case and is a bug.

  • Mac OS X lion 10.7.3 Wi-Fi connection Drop Issue

    Hi All,
I've iMAC OS X Lion 10.7.3 latest version desktop. For couple of months, I'm dealing with dropping wi-fi connection during working. I've look at all the forums and discussions and tried many things to solve the issuse, however, issue still exist.
Every a few minutes, even during surfing though internet pages, wi-fi connection drops. When you look at the signal level etc.. everything is seems to be fine, but it is not possible to connect internet after close-open wi-fi.
For a while, connection drop happens again.
I do not understand why Apple does not give a fix for this while most the customer having such an issue.
Any one having any idea how to solve this ?
    Regards
    Gokcer

I have a similar problem.  My Macbook Pro won't keep a constant wi-fi connection, becuase it continues to seek alternative networks even after locking onto a strong signal.  I've reset preferences and started from scratch with all the settings and let the Mac set them by itself, but still it does the seeking.  At home I used to have a direct LAN into my Airport Extreme, but now I use wi-fi on 4G/LTE and I've tried the computer with and without the Airport Extreme, with and without a Cradlepoint, and with various channels and security levels.
As has been document probably hundreds of times in these forums, Macbook Pros (my model) and some other Macs have had this issue from either 10.7.2 or 10.7.3 (I've got 10.7.4 right now).  I'm glad you found a solution to your problem, but for the hundreds or thousands of us who've had this problem since last August with no solution from Apple, it's quite frustrating.  I know it's not politically correct to blame the computer when it's been given a defective upgrade with Lion, but let's call it what it is.  I'll side with the numbers.  Either a sudden batch of defective routers showed up from Taiwan, and a group of late 2008 and 2009 Macbook Pros bought them all en masse, or it's the software.
So if you still have problems after you get a clear signal, start sending messages to Apple to get it fixed for all of us.  I bring this up for you as an alternative, as I noticed you were running 10.7.3, and the problems started somewhere around 10.7.2 or 10.7.3.  Something to keep an eye on.

  • Focus issues in Mac OS X Lion

In my air application we are getting lot many issues related to focus in Mac OS X Lion. In other operating system we dont have any issues of Focus. Any solution?

Thanks for the additional info. Your setup is different to this thread and more like the other scenario that you posted in, so the steps above don't quite apply.
But fear not, I can give you what you need to know.
The first thing is that the method you used to add the printer previously, ie select to Add via Print & Scan and select Windows, was the correct method for connecting to Windows shared printers. What would have been stopping you from printing was Windows. The authentication pop-up you saw was a request from Windows asking for user credentials to permit the printing. At this stage, if you entered your Windows user name and password the printing should have completed. Note that if you don't have a password set for the Windows account then this can cause errors with shared printing. So I suggest you do set a password for Windows (you should do this by default if this computer connects to the Internet) and this can help with getting the printing to work.
If you were entering the correct details then the second thing is that there are known issues with using Mac drivers when printing via Windows shares. Many vendors do not make printer drivers that work with this type of connection and when you do you can get these authentication messages. So if you were entering the correct Windows user name and password then it could have been the driver rather than Windows causing this pop-up to appear. In this case you need to look at using an alternate driver suite, such as that offered by Gutenprint, although without checking I don't know if your model of Epson is supported. Anyway, the web site will show you if it is.
If Gutenprint does not list your RX500 as a supported printer then there is a way that you can use the original Epson driver and that involves enabling Unix Print Services on the Vista PC. There is a bit to this so I recommend you try to get the above procedure working before you look at this alternative.

  • Mac OS X Lion WiFi issues

Ever since I have upgraded my late 2009-iMac to Mac OS X Lion 10.7 I have been experiencing issues regarding my WiFi. I'm actually loosing connectivity, as in AirPort seems to keep "refreshing itself" for no apparent reason, and disconnecting my WiFi intermittently each time. It's almost like my WiFi card can't keep a stable connection to my router anymore. This problem is not occuring on my iPhone, which is also connected to the same home network on the N Router. It's constantly halting downloads halfway through, or near to the end, and they have to be restarted and this is infuriating when the download has taken ages!
Even reaching this page now took several refreshes, as Safari keeps coming up with blank pages every now and then telling me I am not connected to the internet.
Has anybody else had problems with Lion dropping WiFi connection constantly?

    Hi Guys,
My issue more serious than dropping connections. I CANNOT CONNECT!! I keep getting connection timeout from our all office access points. But anywhere else , i can connect decently.
I joined this company for 6 months now and had no problem whatso ever until 1 day after updating to lion. I HAVE NO IDEA , is it software or hardware!! In boot camp also my wireless is not connecting to routers...I cannot believe it is hardware issue because i can connec to all other networks.
Changing the wireless router config is IMPOSSIBLE. it take me 10 days to get appointment to see the IT guys and they are not going to change anyting on router. I end up buying a wireless usb adapter. It is ******* me off. Any help?

  • PDF edits with Mac OS X Lion Aperçu don't show up on iPad: anyone with this issue?

I am using a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Lion, and an iPad 2 with iOS 5. If I edit PDF files with Aperçu, the drawings or texts I have added do not display on the iPad 2. Is this a known Apple bug? Does anyone else have this problem?

Actually, it is in iBooks that I have this problem with PDF files that have been edited with Aperçu. With iPad Safari, the PDF edits are displayed correctly, through Google docs PDF viewer; I have not tried with iPad Safari independantly from Google docs, but I think it won't work. It does not work in iPad mail for such edited PDF files that are attached to a message.

  • Flex application rendering issue in Firefox on Mac OS X Lion (10.7)

    Hi,
I am facing an problem to render an Flash Builder 4.0 application on Mac OS X Lion (10.7) with Firefox latest version and also with latest version Flash Player. I had tested the same application link on Mac OS Snow Leopard (10.6.8) & Windows OS with latest versions (FF and Flash Player) is working fine.
Tried to run sample application created using Flash Builder 4.0 and Flex 3 and after hosting it, trying to run on Mac OS X Lion (10.7), but facing same problem. Additionally, I had tried to run different application (for example, http://www.pxldesigns.com/adobecrm/) to test the scenarios but facing the same problems.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 "Private" Folder Issue

I'm running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5, and I have a 250GB HDD on my Mac Pro Tower. I'm down to 4GB, and after looking through the forums and running sudo du -x -h -d 1 / I can see that a folder called "private" is showing that it is 189GB in size. Can I clear it down as I'm almost out of space?
I have run a Omnidisk Sweep and it shows the Private Folder at only 4GB..... Any help appreciated.

What direction do you wish to change? Backwards to 10.6 or advance to 10.8 or 10.9. All of these choices depend on the model of Mac computer so any advice will need that information. It is always advisable to have your data backed up before any change in OS X system.

  • Mac OSX lion issue sound [Audio Stops Work]

    Hi.
I have a mac book pro with mac os x lion, and something make my sound stops WORK!
i unninstal the mac keeper but the problem was nor solved [I read this in another forum]
When I play some sound a red light on the mini-jack port is turned on.
The Sound/Mid Configuration on Applications/Utilities doesnt abble to change Volume.
When I try to Up de Volume its indicates a forbidden icon.
    Anybody can help me please?
    Regards.
    Eric.

Had a similar problem with sound just disappearing and non selectable in Sound Preferences.  I thought it was the OS (Snow Leopard), but later discovered that the headset port somehow thought that it was in a different state like (headphone or optical or someplace inbetween).
By just plugging and unplugging a headset, it reset the port and now I had sound from the system, and the various output sound choices were again available in Sound Preferences.
    Hope that helps
    Cheers
    Chris

  • Adobe WebForms issue running MAC OS X Lion

I require the Adobe PDF plug-in to function in order to use web forms that I need for work. Since I run MAC OS X Lion and have Safari 5.1, I cannot run my Adobe web forms. Any thoughts on a fix?

Well still no solution. It's unfortunate that a company as innovative as APPLE always seems to fall short in the most basic areas. Never will understand it.
At this point I've given up. I got a copy of virtual box and Windows 7 for the one task I use every day, which worked in Safari 5.0.6.
Thanks all for the help. If anyone comes across this and has other suggestions I'm open to trying anything. As frustrated as I am with Apple and the Mac it's still my OS of choice.

  • Mac OSX Mountain Lion crashes randomly.

I've made a clean install of Mac OSX Mountain Lion in my 15" Macbook Pro late 2009 laptop. I kept reciving these intermittent lock ups and then the Macbook pro reboots (while thankfully saving whatever it needed to save before it reboots) by itself with a message saying that the macbook pro had a problem and had to restart automatically. updated my mac to mountain lion 10.7.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install saying that I need to see developer. Whenever I try to open my appstore, mail or facetime it says that the programmes need to be installed and might not be compatible with this version of mac operating system. Can anyone help me?

It's not a bad install of Mountain Lion. I've had the same thing happen to me, but it affected not only Mail, but a variety of other programs including iPhoto and MS Office, where I had to delete preferences, caches, and reinstall the OS as well as the program itself. I'm still having issues with Mail, so I've gone to another program.
Everything was fine upon the initial install. I restarted my iMac about two weeks after the install, and that's when the issues began to happen. I've reinstalled Mountain Lion twice, but the same issues arise.
As I mentioned above, you'll need to figure out which preferences are causing the issue, then reinstall the program, as a fresh reinstallation will do you no good unless you wipe the drive completely.
Here's a thread that helped me with iPhoto:
