Mac OS X Mail compresses TIFF photo attachment

I'm trying to send an uncompressed photo (tff file, 5mb) as an attachment to a mail message -- but mail seems to automatically compress the file (to about 400k) -- how do I stop this and send the original file?
Thnaks for your help!

John, on the new message screen after you have attached the photo, look at the bottom right where there is an option to send the original size or reduce.

How do I stop mail compressing my photos? I have set 'Actual Size' in Mail and still the photos are compressed to thumbnail size.
    I'm using Mavericks 10.9.2 on a 2011 iMac.

The best way is to use the Contextual menu application PhotoTool CM to losslessly rotate the photos before importing into iPhoto. Or use Xee, a free image editor with lossless rotation capability.
If your camera has the auto rotate feature turn it off and then follow the suggestion above before importing. That will rid iPhoto of the modified version rotated to the correct orientation.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How do you compress a Tiff photo image on a mac so that it can be sent in an email?

How do you compress on a mac a Tiff photo file so that it can be sent in an email?

I don't believe .tifs are a web compatible format. Two options:
    1. You either have to compress it, where it becomes a .sit  or .zip file that is emailable. Your receiver will need to be able to decompress the file.
    2. Change it to a .jpg or .png file which are emailable.
Like Mr. Perkins says your ISP may limit the size of files that can be emailed.
I don't see where web compatibility relates to this issue in any way.
I'd be shocked if any computer whatever is unable to decompress a zip file.  However, as Mr. Perkins and I have confirmed via testing, the amount of compression can range from negligible to significant, depending on the original TIF file.
As far as changing to JPG or PNG, I don't know if that helps the OP.  The question was specifically related to TIFs.  Personally, I still prefer the MobileMe or Dropbox solution.  The recipient receives exactly what the sender wishes to send and email is not clogged up in any manner.

  • Problems with photos attached to a mail

Normally a photo attached to a mail arrives at the addressee as a separate file which can be detached and stored separately.
Since a couple of days it does not work this way, when I use the Apple mail program to send messages from my iMac (OSX 10.5.3). Now they are embedded into the mail as very large pictures. I think there must be something wrong with the settings of mail.
Does anybody know what I can do in order to get back the "normal" state?

    Sogar Microsoft hat so was...
(Hoffentlich hat das jetzt auch einer von denen gelesen - und verstanden!)

  • Photo size reduced when attached to mail app, from PHOTOS APP in OS X 10.10.3

When I try to attach a photo from photos app to mail app, the photo size is reduced, even 'ACUTAL SIZE' is selected in mail app.
I have tried out to solve this issue, but could not find any way out. Is this a bug in PHOTOS app? Previously it was happening with iPhoto also, which was subsequently rectified by an iPhoto update.
Pl. help, if anybody has any solution

I made a mistake, sorry. I meant something different than  I wrote.
When you share the photo from Photos to Mail, there are no quality settings in the Share dialog at all. The email window will only have the the options "Actual size", "Large", "medium", .... but no compression settings.
Actual size send the actual pixel size. But it is not clear, how badly the quality will be reduced by the compression.
That is why I compared the result to the file sizes that I get, when I use "File > Export", where I can select the quality.
I found that the compression and quality in "Share > Mail > Actual Size" is similar to "File > Export" with the JPEG Quality setting "High".

  • Mac mail export to "Photos," not iPhoto

I use an iMac running OS X 10.10.3 and have the new Photos software.
I'd like Mac Mail to "export" a photo attached to an email to Photos, rather than iPhoto.  But the dropdown menu in the little line between the address and the email still only lists "Export to iPhoto" and doesn't give an option to export to Photos.
Is this a glitch?  Am I doing something wrong?

True, but if you right-click (control-click) on the photo, the context menu does contain "Export to Photos" along with "Export to iPhoto" and others.

  • How do i resize photo attachment in icloud mail

How do I resize photo attachment in icloud mail. The resize button does not appear as it did  before.

Using iCloud mail online via a browser does not offer the option to resize the photo.  It's only available when emailing from iPhoto so iPhoto can do the resizing as it adds the image to the email.  Safari or whatever browser you're using doesn't have that capability.

  • Mail photo attachment changes format after being sent?

When I take a photo using the iPad camera and send it as an attachment in mail, how can I ensure the photo will maintain the same format after sending it, as it did when I took the photo? Recipients of my email with a portrait photo attachment, will receive the attachment in landscape format. This also happens to photos I've taken and saved previously in photos on my iPad2.
Does anyone know why this happens or how I can prevent it from happening?

    Denis-
I have seen this effect on photos received from an iPhone camera.  I suggest you let Apple know so they can fix it in a future iOS update.  Go to <iPad Feedback>.
When  saved, the side-ways photos seem to end up right-side-up, if that is any consolation.

  • When we attach photos to an email in the Apple Mail app, the photos appear tiny on gmail accounts.

When we attach photos to an email in the Apple Mail app, the photos appear tiny on gmail accounts. They are unable to download the file as the size sent. We have tested this in multiple gmail accounts and we have tried sending as different sizes and actual size with no difference. Other photos attached in other ways come through fine. This seems to be a a result of the recent iphotos to photos app update.
Please advise on if this is a bug with how mail is ending the photos or how gmail is receiving them.

Try using Mail as the email client for iPhoto and see if that will fix the problem:

My mother has an iPad and so do I. I have successfully sent photos and videos to her.  She took a photo with her iPad and sent it to me.  I receive her mail with the word, "attachment" and with the paper clip symbol - but there is never an attachment!  No photo!  How is this possible if she is doing the exact steps that I do when mailing photos?   Is something locked?  Thanks for help.

Scroll down to the bottom of the email. Is there a message there to download the rest of the email?
Quit Mail and try again. Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it jiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then restart the app and see if it works normally.

  • What is the easiest way to transfer multiple photos attached to a TEXT message to my MAC?

What is the easiest way to transfer multiple photos attached to a TEXT message to my MAC?

    @randers4
That is exactly what I've been doing.
I get dozens of photos from a job site every day and it just takes forever.
I had hoped there was an easier - or at least more direct and simpler way.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Photo attach using attach or Photo Browser in Mail not seeing events Folder

Recent upgrade on MacBook to Leopard and I now mail does not see photos synced from iPhone into iPhoto. Is there a way to refresh the folders displayed in mail when using the attach button?
Also, when I use the Photo Browser Button in Mail, I can see the photos sync'd from the iphone but can't get any attached to an e-mail?
    Suggestions?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

If you purchased about 2 years ago new I am sure it is a Intel iMac. To find out what type of iMac you have just click on the Apple menu item in the finder and select about this Mac. I would check the ISP mail site and get the correct outgoing mail server info.

I just bought a new Mac Mini and I'm sending photos from I Photo thru my g Mail acct. in I Photo not under Mail...anyway, I know you can delete recipients under previous recipients in E Mail and I've done this before, but when I'm in my G Mail account in I PHOTO I don't have the window to give me this option.. I put the wrong E Mail address down for one of my recipients and want to delete it.. it is correct under ALL my E Mail accounts under Mail and the incorrect one was successfully deleted in them, but it still remains as an option going under I Photo.  If you have the newest version you should be able to follow what I'm talking about...

try to mention what exactly happens when you click that attachment icons and so on. Did you tried to restart FF in safemode (search how). maybe try disabling FF (firefox) addons, Clearing cache
