Mac OS X Server Print Sharing Issues With Server Admin

Hello,
I have a fresh install of Mac OS X 10.6.5, with just PaperCut and network printers added. When I open Server Admin (on the server itself) and select the Print service I can see 'servermgrd' and 'cups' using 60%+ CPU each for about 3 minutes. Then when I click 'Queues' tab the 'servermgrd' and 'cups' using go back up to using 60%+ CPU each and even if I leave it running for 12 hours it continues to stay like this, until I quit Server Admin.
I currently have 45 shared printer queues.
It sounds like the same issue discussed here:

Any help would be great! Thank you.

• [Mac OS 10.7]SMB sharing issue with IPv6

Hi, Folks,
I knew there are some big changes about SMB server and clients, the SMB sharing on IPv4 can work fine for me too. But the SMB sharing on IPv6 cannot work fine.
After checking the TCP ports with IPv4, the port 139 is closed, and I only can telnet with port 445. For IPv6, both port 139 and 445 are all closed.
Could you give more detail information about it? Or any solution to fix it?
Thanks & Best Regards!

• Any fix for the PC based network printer communication issue with Mavericks?

Any fix for the PC based network printer communication issue with Mavericks?

I just signed up for FIOS and am not experiencing your problem (had enough other ones instead).
Go to mail preferences ~ click on a mail account ~ click on the advanced tab. The only settings that worked for me were: port 110 SSL OFF, authentication: Authenticated POP (APOP). If I remember correctly when I first set this up another window opened and I typed in my password and never had to do that again.
Hope this helps.

• New to Mac - File sharing issue with windows PC?

Good day
I have a win7 pc with all my movies storred on.  I shared the folder on the network, and can access the folder from my windows pc and my MacMini.
The problem is that my MacMini does not pic up all the files/folders on the shared folder.  I would guess it only picks up about 80% of the files/folders.  When I connect to the shared folder from the windows 7 pc it picks up everything.
More info:
Win7 Home (all updates done)
3tb drive (not sure what you call it, but it was formated with NTFS guid table)
Full read Write share enabled to everyone
MacMini Latest hardware and OSX.
Shared folder shows in shared part of finder.
Already did a restart of both PC and Mac
Already did a clean-up on mac.
The mac connects via wi-fi and win pc via ethernet
Please help me on what more I can try

I've seen this a long time ago, seems SMB on the Mac was limited to the number of listings, if you Share an inner folder, does OSX show more files in that folder?
No idea if this works in 10.8, but will mention it...

• Strange Print Sharing Issue from Leopard 10.5.1 to XP machine

Hi,
I'm experiencing an issue with sending a print job from an XP-based PC to a Leopard-based PC which has a printer attached to it (Xerox Printer).
The software that's used as a print server is efi Splash Server which routes a non-standard IP address to the printer (169.x.x.x)
I am able to send print jobs from the print server itself correctly.
I am not able to send print jobs from an xp based PC which is connected to the print server by the LPR port.
I've sniffed the network traffic and the job seems like its travelling through port 9100 and makes it to the print server but then it loses itself from there.
I can see the printer statistics from the Windows-based PC but I can't seem to successfully print to it.
We have standard user accounts setup for running the efi Splash Server software so I've ensured that the CUPS config file has been modified to allow standard users to use (a) the lpd service and (b) provided with read/write access to the Splash Server folder for everyone to ease future maintenance.
I'll (a) double-check the firewall and (b) install separate drivers and then try connect that way but do you have any other suggestions I could try so I can resolve this issue?
If I'm communicating across port 9100 as a standard LPR port then do I need SAMBA or Bonjour switched on?
Regards,
SG

Can you explain your network to us again? What's connected where? Is the Splash server a black box type device or just software on the Mac?
A 169.x.x.x address usually means self-assigned (IE, the router didn't respond to an address request). A different subnet address usually won't work, because routers look outside the local net (IE, the internet) when trying to connect to that IP address.
Or, you can just wait until someone here with Splash Server experience comes by.

• File and Printer Sharing Problem with WRT54G

I am currently having problems sharing files over my network. My setup consists of:
3 laptops (wireless)
1 desktop (wired)
WRT54G V6.0 router with firmware version 1.00.9.
All of the computers have File and Printer Sharing enabled, unique names, and are on the same workgroup. However none of the computers can see one another. When I try to view workgroup computers for my network places, the explorer window stops responding for about 30 sec. and then spits out a dialog with the error:
"Workgroup is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."
I think that this problem has something to do with the router, as I have been successfuly sharing files and a printer with these settings using a microsoft 802.11b router for over a year. After purchasing the linksys and swapping it out with my old router, filesharing no longer functions.
I have spent a little time browsing the forums and have seen other posts from people with simmiler problems, but was unable to find any solutions.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

I'm having the same problems as you are, I have 2 computers on wired the other wireless the router is in between and I can't access from either side, although I can ping and remote connect but just cannot share files across the network. I have looked all over the forums too and there saying to ditch linksys and do something else.
Its not you thats caused this it is the firmware and the router that have the problems.
My Specs:
WRT-54G
v5.0
That new firmware update 1.00.9 just isn't working right. I might downgrade my fireware to fix this problem.

• Mac Book Pro 13 inch Graphics Issue with Yosemite

I have a major graphics issue with my Mac Book Pro mid 2010 after upgrading to Yosemite. I have a 2.66ghz with 8gb memory and 320M 256 MB NVIDIA graphics card. Since upgrading to Yosemite (after a clean install) I have had the following issue that are driving me crazy;
When I use more than one program my screen displays large blocks of unrecognisable fuzziness. I have two screen working off my Mac Book Pro, one is the Apple 27 inch theatre screen.
My system works slow despite have ample free memory available on my disk (over 150gb)
It is becoming an increasing concern as this issue builds up over the day to the point where I need to reboot to fix, however as soon as I use Photoshop the system almost grinds to a halt. Other issues that are bearable but ned addressing include;
Keyboard often does not work on startup and requires you to pull out the keyboard and reconnect (intermittent).
Lost email when sent (intermittent). I had hoped that this would be fixed in this updated release.
Laggy behaviour in general.
I am hoping someone has an idea to fix these issues or are also sharing my frustration. Can someone suggest  fix as this is not a workable situation for Mac book Pro users and 2010 is not that of an old computer. Apple???

So you erased your drive and installed  10.10 and then 10.10.1 and everything else was t hrough Setup Assistant, through reinstalls, or through TimeMachine restore?
A four-year old laptop may be at the point where that small older gpu and processors have more trouble.
you might want to hold off and go back to Mavericks or whatever you had - hopefully you cloned that system before doing clean install, upgrade to 16GB, maybe throw in an SSD... or save and get the next MacBook Pro to come out.
And you checked your apps at http://www.roaringapps.com for compatibility.
Might help just to see what if anything shows up in output from Etrecheck.
Probably thought this was laptop MacBook Pro, it is not, probably best moved to Yosemite forum.

• E3000 file and printer sharing issues

Yes, there is at least one other thread on this but it looked a bit stale.
Last Friday I replaced my BEFSR41 router and WRT54G wireless access point (which had gone brick on me) with an E3000.The E3000 is configured as a DHCP server at 192.168.168.65 with a scope of 66-115. The only other non-default setting is that I opened up the custom port for my slingbox.
Prior to making the switch, I had several network shares on an XP desktop that I used frequently from my Vista laptop. Now, however, I can no longer even "see" any other computer from any of the computers on the network, much less access their shared folders. In other words, if I view the network from any of these machines, the only machine that shows up is the machine itself. Everything else (internet access, slingbox, a print server) is working just fine.
One of the suggestions in the other thread was to turn off Norton Internet Security, which is of course not a viable option. However I did check the settings, relaxed the network default to "Shared", and raised the XP desktop to "Full Trust". This had no effect.
I pinged the various computers, and was able to do so by their IP addresses, but not by their computer names (that worked with the old router). On a hunch, I tried creating a mapped drive, and that also worked when I used the IP address, but not when I used the computer name.
So - there's nothing wrong with the network configuration, or with how the shares are set up, and Norton isn't the problem. The only problem seems to be that names aren't being resolved, which could be affecting windows discovery, too. Did the BEFSR41 provide some local DNS functionality by default, and the E3000 doesn't? Is there an option I need to enable? If so, I can't find it. Perhaps I should explicitly add the E3000's internal IP address as a third nameserver??
A note on the "support" I tried to get before I turned to the forums: The "Chat agent" asked a bunch of questions, misunderstood my configuration and my problem, and once he finally did understand said "we don't support file and printer sharing". It took me several more questions to learn that he really meant that the Chat facility isn't the place for these questions - I had to call the 800 number. I did that, and after several minutes on hold, reached an agent. After going through everything again, and with the rep going on hold several times to "speak to his supervisor", he said it was "beyond his competence". I was eventually told I had to call another FEE-BASED service. I told him that was unacceptable.

Ok, another update and possibly some clues.
I was curious why at one point, when all the computers were in Workgroup2, that "Workgroup" still showed up in Explorer under the list of networks, but only on the two XP machines. Netscan showed this group association as well, which I then realized was the E3000 itself, in its role as a potential NAS server. However there was no storage device attached.
Could this in itself cause the access error? If so, should users be advised that if they don't plan to host any storage, that they should to go to the E3000 Storage Administration page and change the workgroup name to something other than their actual workgroup name?
In my case, I changed it to "Workgroupx", though perphaps something like "StorageGroup" would be more meaningful, especially if the Workgroup computers could still access any storage I might install in the future.
Anyway, I repeated my original approach (after the above change and a router reboot), and at least got my original Workgroup reestablished to the point where the XP machines not longer get access errors, and most machines can access the shares on the XP desktop. The steps I used on each machine were:
remove any shares I had set up on any folders
uninstalled the File and Printer Sharing service
Accessed Computer Name properties page to change the workgroup name
Shut Down
After all 4 were done, I reversed the process:
Started computer (now coming up in new Workgroup)
Reinstalled File and Printer Sharing service
Checked visibility
At this point, the XP machines could see each other, and the Win7 and Vista machines could see each other, but initially these two cliques wouldn't interact.
Next I re-added the shared folders on the XP desktop, and the XP netbook could see and access them. After about an hour, the Win7 machine joined this clique, and could also access the shares. But six hours later, the Vista machine is still clueless. Netscan shows everything of course, and I used it to set up a mapped drive on the Vista machine to one of the shared folders.
Other possibly relevant facts:
The was all working fine with the BEFRS41/WAP54G combo
I can ping all machines by IP address, but not by name
On the Vista machine I can set up mapped drives to the XP's shared folders, but again, only by IP address.
At one point I removed NWLink from the XP desktop. Now, nbtstat -r only shows the printserver's name being resolved.
The two XP machines, being SP3, lack the LLTD responder.
So,
Is it possible the NetBIOS in NWLink was providing some kind of name caching? If so, should I reinstall the protocol driver (I don't think it is available on Win7)?
Should I request and apply the KB922120 hotfix to get LLTD onto the XP machines?
Perhaps in the morning, "by name" access will have returned, as it did on my first go-round. Needless to say this has been a real pain, what with all the reboots required. At least now I remember to hit F8 so I can select Safe Mode with Networking...

• Mac OS X 10.6.8 Issues with storage

Hi All,
Be merecefull, first time posting here.
Have got a server with Mac OS X 10.6.8 Server, which is profiding following services:
• Open Directory
• DNS
• AFP
Issues is with AFP more specifically with shares on Drobo box which is connected over FireWire. It serves as Share location and FileMaker server file database. Users reported issues with performance while accessing files and are unable to save some of the files onto it.
I performed Verify Disk form Disk Utility and it reported "Invalid sibling link. The volume Drobo was found corrupt and needs to be repaired." Repair Disk isn't fixing the issues and stopps performing repair after 20 min.
I had same issues on the same server while back, but back then we had Hive drive attached on FireWire and it had exactly same issues. We changed it to Drobo and restored files from backup.
Could please someone explain why these issues are occruing in first place as this starts to appear a regular problem, and what could be a way to avoid this in future.
We are planning to attempt disk repair from install media or Single User mode. Any better sollutions are wellcomed!
All bes,
Aigars.

My questions are: Was the problem with iTunes playing slowly an iTunes issue? Or was the root problem from the upgrade to OS X 10.6.3, and therefor an OS problem?
Even if a user has access to the beta, and knew of an issue they are working on, he/she would not be able to comment on it here. This forum is only for OS's that have been released and is covered by a Terms of Use agreement.
Sounds like you got an unintended update in some sort of fluke accident, and since you've removed it, there's no way of telling what caused the problem or if it was the OS or program or both.

• Potential Solution: Home Sharing issues with iTunes 10.6

TL;DR: On a hunch, I changed the power settings of the ATV to never sleep. Since then, I have not had any issues. Granted, it's only been a couple of days, but it seems to have done the trick.
Folks,
Wanted to share my experience with Home Sharing issues after upgrading to iTunes 10.6. These forums a rampant with reports of the issue, so I'll defer to the search field above if you don't know what I am talking about. In short: iTunes 10.6 seems to have busted Home Sharing.
For those who do, here's what I found:
For some reason, is saw a very large number of established sessions from my Apple TV (ATV) into port 3689 on my Mac. This is the port that ATV uses to query iTunes to see what's available via Home Sharing (e.g.: what movies, songs, pictures, etc are available for display on the ATV).
A sniffer cap and some observation of the power indicator on the ATV indicated that while it was sleeping, the ATV was querying iTunes. It would power on for a sec (wake on LAN, maybe?), issue some queries, then sleep.
When this happened, the TCP sessions created were never town down. As such, I would eventually see 200+ established sessions on port 3689. I don't know exactly how many it took to make this happen, but when I saw this, iTunes stopped accepting new connections.
Of course, bouncing iTunes would remedy the issue for a while, but it would return.
On a hunch, I changed the power settings of the ATV to never sleep. Since then, I have not had any issues. Granted, it's only been a couple of days, but it seems to have done the trick.
I would be interested to hear if it works for others.
Happy viewing,
Chris

Thanks for posting this.
I've been searching for an option of how to approach this problem.
I picked up the new AppleTV when it was released, but it has made iTunes fairly useless from a Home Sharing standpoint.
I also observed the massive number of TCP connections being opened against iTunes, but never closed.
As expected, I could manually kill a few of these connections, and then could connect again, even without closing iTunes.
I performed most of my testing with Windows 7, but while troubleshooting I had the same issue with iTunes on an old Mac Mini I had sitting around.
I will try your solution, which makes a lot of sense, but it would be nice if Apple fixed the real problem.
Thanks again.

• Weird printer sharing issue

I have an iMac running 10.4 and a MacBook running 10.5. The iMac is connected to a printer and set up to share. I successfully printed one document from my MacBook to this shared printer. The next one wouldn't print; it just got stuck on "looking for" the printer. I messed around with it a bit, reinstalled the driver, nothing.
Finally I deleted the printer from my MacBook's list. Maybe a mistake, because now it can no longer "see" it. If I try to re-add that printer... I click on the + button and the shared printer appears on the list for a fraction of a second, and then it's gone, so I can't add it.
Tried restarting etc., all the usual stuff. I'm stumped and desperate. Anyone?

Sometimes printer manufacturers use different print drivers for different versions of Mac OS X and this prevents printer sharing from working properly between, say, 10.4 and 10.5. Like EPSON's drivers for their printers may say they work with "10.3 - 10.5" but there are different versions of the driver in the installer package and the appropriate one is used at install time based on the system you're running.
I went through this too, and found that printing to a shared printer worked from 10.4 to 10.4 and 10.5 to 10.5, but not 10.4 to 10.5 or vice versa. Make sense?
Now I'm just having trouble in general with printer sharing (I think the 10.5.6 update hosed it).

• Home Sharing issues with iPhone 6 Plus

Hi guys,
I'm having problems with streaming music and video on my iPhone 6 plus from my Macbook Pro (mid 2010 model) using iTunes' Home Sharing . I am able to stream without any issues using my iPhone 4S and my Apple TV, however.
I am using iTunes version 12.0.1.26, iOS 8.1.2, and OSX 10.9.5.
Using my 6 plus, I am able to connect to my iTunes library, both music and video. Album art shows up for music but no cover art for the videos. So, all in all, I am able to see the contents of my library.
However, when I try to play songs, a couple things may happen. First, nothing plays for about 10 seconds; then a second or two of the song plays followed by silence again, appearing as if it's buffering. Second thing that may happen is that a second or two plays immediately followed by silence. If I press next to play the next song, what usually happens is that nothing plays, although the song title does appear.
As seen in this video, I don't have any issues with my WIFI connection or internet speed, as demonstrated using the iPhone 4S and Apple TV.
I have no clue as to why this is happening.
Hopefully someone could shed some light with this issue. Please feel free to comment. I'm open to and appreciate any suggestions while Apple tries to find a solution. Thanks.

UPDATE
So, after working with the guys at Apple, they we were to provide a solution.  Now I have no problems using Home Sharing with my iPhone 6 Plus!!!
(I should add that I have the Linksys Advanced Dual-Band N Router (E2500))
The issue was fixed by giving one of the wi-fi channels a different name, thus splitting the channels into 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.  Then, I connected my iPhone to one channel (2.4 GHz) and my MacBook Pro to the other channel (5GHz).  In this configuration, I have had no issues streaming my music and video.
It seems that the problem is some kind of interference between both devices when using the same channel (i.e., when both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channel share the same name).

• Mac Pro 6,1 STILL having issues with Open CL (4K scaling and SpeedGrade direct link grades)

I've seen the staff responses to the issues of the new Mac Pro GPU saying that 10.9.4 fixes everything. For me, it has fixed my export issues, so I'm glad. I'm no longer getting lines and artifacts on my renders.
That's great.
However, I'm still having several issues, and they seem to be linked to Adobe and Open CL.
Here's a video that shows what's going on:
mac pro issues july 7 - YouTube
Issue #1
Like most of you probably, I'm doing 1080p exports of most things I'm working on. The first project shows a 1080p timeline with a mix of 4k, 5k, and 720p footage. Because zooming in so much on a 720p file in a 4k timeline looks so crappy, I'm doing 1080p timelines and scaling everything to the size it needs to be. I started in a 4k timeline then switched to 1080p because the 720p footage looked so terrible. However, in the 4k timeline, I didn't have any of the issues I'm showing in this first part of the video.
When I switched to the 1080p timeline, I discovered a weird quirk: When I resize the 4k (or 5k) footage to the size it needs to be (which varies based on the frame I want), it goes back to the 100% view when I'm scrubbing through it. When I pause, the size of the video goes back to the way I set it. I show this in the video. Then I show what was my working solution for the time being: "scale to frame size", which brings all the videos to the size of the sequence frame size and works fine. Later, I turn off OpenCL in premiere and when I scrub through the video, it doesn't zoom back in or only stay at the size I set when stopped. For some reason all of these issues only happen at 50% scale or smaller. It doesn't happen at, say, 60%.
I've tested this with raw R3D files and other 4K (or 5K) clips (even clips exported from After Effects) and the same thing happens. It doesn't seem to happen with 2.5k footage or 1080p footage.
Issue #2
This is the second project you'll see in the video.
After grading in speedgrade (through direct link) I open my project back up in premiere and start playing it back. The video plays back with delays and frame drops. Now normally, this would be expected. But this is 1080p pro res footage, and this is just an effect added, and the yellow bar appears indicating that open CL should be accelerating the playback and it should do so smoothly.
Maybe I was just wrong in assuming that a simple grade from speedgrade would be able to playback smoothly. I turn off the grade, and it plays normally.
But then, when I turn off open cl and leave the grade on, the video plays back without ANY issues.
So to me, it seems I'm still having issues with Open CL and adobe. I've found fixes that make it work temporarily, I don't need that kind of answer. However, I would like this to work. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Something I need to do to get this to work?
Here are my specs:
Mac Pro 6,1 (Late 2013)
3 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon E5
64 GB 1867 MHz DDR3 ECC
AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB (x2)
OSX 10.9.4
Firmware: 2.20f18
What you're seeing is latest version of Premiere (CC 2014, v8.0.0 [169] Build)
Everything here is ProRes 422, running from a Promise Pegasus2 R4 RAID (drives: 4x Seagate Desktop HDD 4 TB SATA 6Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive ST4000DM000) (that's thunderbolt 2).
I've done everything: I've restarted my computer hundreds of times, I've reset NVRAM and PRAM and done power cycles.
This isn't just some issue that started with 10.9.3 of OSX, the 4k issues happened when I first switched to a 1080p sequence back in February (2014) or so, which means it was an issue even with 10.9.2 and the previous firmware release.
I've reported this issue to adobe.

That crash appears to be casued by the Facebook plug-in.
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts or Users & Groups on 10.7 and 10.8), make a new Library in that account, import some shots  and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

Thre has been a longstanding issue with missing icons of CS6 in the Mounatin Lion. Has the issue been fixed now with  Mavericks?

Thank you, it was brief enjoyment. I just about got it set up as I wanted it. Wednesday evening as I was browsing the internet with the Mac Mini, and re-formatting the HD's of my G5 ready for eBay, the new Mac Mini died on me, less than a week old.
Returned to seller, they confirmed it was dead. I should take delivery of another new unit tomorrow, (Monday). I have lent the technician a paint scraper, so he can fit the new RAM without marking the bottom this time...
Second time lucky hopefully. It could have been the power supply? I will probably never know.
