Mac OS X Update 10.5.6 Installation's process stopped in about 8%

I have MacBook (intel) with Mac OS X 10.5.1 and i want to install the update.
after download Mac OS X 10.5.6 Update Combo,I tried to install it.
but the installation's process stopped in about 8%,it wasn't really stop,
it said configuring Installation,But i waited it about 2-3 hours, but there was no change.
always like that.."Configuring Installation"...i have tried to install it a few more times, but the same things happen,,Help Me Please,,

I tried Dan's suggestion and thought everything was going to work. The installation began but then I got a message that the installation had failed (yellow warning sign) and this message: "The installer could not locate the data it needed to install the software. Check your install media or internet connection and try again or contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
When I downloaded the 10.5.6 update I received a folder that said "Mac OS X Update". Inside that folder was an alias called "Mac OS X Update. dist" and another folder called Packages. Inside the packages folder are two more packages. One is called "MacOSXUpd10.5.6-10.5.6.dist" and the other is called "MacOSXUpd10.5.6Patch.pkg."
I used the alias to try to install so that could be the problem. Which of the other two should I install first? Does that matter? I'm hesitant to try either without hearing from you guys!

Hold down the option key during start up - you will be given the choice of which partition to use (Macintosh HD or Windows). I am having the same problem - Windows 7 seems to have installed but it goes to a blank black screen and there is nothing to do but force a reboot. I too have an i3 iMac... • Installation of Mac OS X Update combined (10.5.8)

Im trying to do a software update to the Mac OS X 10.5.8... And all is well until it gets to configuration installation, and the download freezes about an eighth of the way across.... any suggestions? please dumb it down for me, i am not that good with computers ... i have version 10.5.5 right now.... thanks

I recently ran Software Update and applied ALL the updates it found, for the first time for an Intel iMac that had been purchased in Dec 2008, originally with 10.5.6. The update included myriad items including Security Updates, Quicktime, Safari and OS updates.
The OS update by itself was more than 675 Mbytes, and the entire set of updates was over 1 Gbyte. This took a little while to download, but the installation took even longer. The "Configuring Installation" for the OS update took a very long time, probably more than 15 min in and of itself. The installation itself was also very lengthy. I eventually brought in reading material and sat there reading for quite a while during this process, which indeed appeared to stop making progress several times, but placing my ear close to the computer, I could hear disk activity (this iMac is very quiet so this was hard to do), and thus did not interrupt it. It finally did complete.
You said "dumb it down" so here are some suggestions:
    (1) Allow the update enough time to complete. Just copying 500 Mbytes to 1 Gbyte of files can take a long time, let alone breaking the update file(s) into pieces and moving them all to where they belong. I'd allow at least 1 hour.
    (2) I have always used Software Update because if you don't do updates regularly, doing them in the wrong order can result in oddities. Sometimes, for instance, a Security Update is needed before the OS update or vice versa. A recent iTunes update required the latest Safari to be installed. Generally, the installer doesn't allow an update to proceed if it won't work, but I wouldn't count on that all the time. So just downloading some update and installing it could mean you are doing something out of order. (By the way, some people NEVER use Software Update and ALWAYS do the installs manually using their own methods, but unless you know what you are doing, there may be pitfalls. I have always used Software Update starting with an iMac 2001 unit through half a dozen subsequent Macs covering 10.3, 10.4, and 10.5 through present day and it has never done the wrong thing for me.)
    (3) It might make sense to run Disk Utility and Disk Warrior to verify and repair (if necessary) your file catalog in advance of a major update like OS 10.5.5 to 10.5.8, which will require many hundred of Mbytes of myriad files and will clearly stress the disk and its file structure -- no problem if everything is as it should be, but if the disk structure needs minor repairs (such as from powering it down by force in the midst of your interrupted update), one of those could trip up the update you tried.

I updated my mac 10.8 to mavericks but after installation the app store ask for the same software update again..i have a slow connection..i cannot install it again and again..what should i do?

In case you are not aware, Mavericks requires a high speed broadband connection.
In the event you need to restore or repair the starutp disk, OS X Recovery also requires a broadband connection as noted here >  About OS X Recovery
You can check your download speed here > Speedtest.net
15Mbps or less, you may not be able to install Mavericks or use OS X Recovery.

  • Unable to Load Mac OSX after update - Urgent! Please Help

I just updated my Mac using System update, which required a start.
I restarted the computer, but it's stuck in the gray apple screen with the circular running bars. It's been now 10 minutes, and it never took so much. I tried to turn it off, then on again, same problem. What should I do? Please, help!
    Thanks,
    richard

    Problem solved.
First of all, thank you all for the advices and links, now I learned something. After panicking, I tried the PRAM reset restart and the "shift" restart and it didn't work. I didn't have the installation disk with me, so I went straight to Tekserve to hear them. They told me that my system got corrupted for some reason and I had two options with them:
    - a quick fix, for US$59, which would erase all my HD content and take 24 hours
    - a fix without erasing the HD, for US$195, which would take 4 business days!
They said those were all the options. For me the money was not major problem. The big issue for me would be not having my computer for many days.
Then I thought: what if I try to reinstall the system myself? And they said: well, you can try that.
That's what I did as I got home. Install disk, restart holding down the "C" key.
One hour later, everything was back to normal.
Now the question: why at tekserve they didn't say anything to me about reinstalling the system myself?
Anyway, this was the first major problem I bumped into since I have turned to apple 3 years ago.
And again, thanks everybody for the help!

  • The update "Mac OS X update combined (powerpc)" can't be installed?

I recently upgraded from OS X 10.3.9 to Tiger (10.4.6) and encountered a weird problem. My system is a Dual 1GHz G4 (mirror drive door) with 768 MB RAM.
When I try to launch iTunes, I get an error telling me that "iTunes requires Mac OS X 10.4.7 or later..."
That never happened before, so I assume that the Tiger installation (or a Software Update I was unaware of) sabotaged iTunes by imposing this new requirement.
Now here's the irony: I can't install OS X 10.4.7! When I run Software Update, it tries to install Mac OS X Update Combined (PowerPC) 10.4.10-- but it fails every time with the message:
The update "Mac OS X update combined (powerpc)" can't be installed.
The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by "Apple."
So this seems to be a transmission error, or something wrong with Apple's server. I've tried this repeatedly over the last few days, but nothing changes.
Any suggestions? I tried downloading the installer from Apple's download page, but it results in the same error. Is there perhaps a clean version of 10.4.8 I can download from somewhere?
It's really frustrating not being able to run iTunes because of an OS "upgrade."

Then, stop using Software Update, click the Downloads link at the page's top, and manually download the COMBO update. As for iTunes, apparently you installed a later version. With 10.4.6, your quite a few updates behind: OS, security, iTunes, and QuickTime, just to name a few. Before you update, be sure you make a bootable backup/clone. Any clues on why my Mac won't update the OS to the newest version?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
That's because OS X 10.7 Lion is a paid upgrade that you can't get from Software Update. The most recent version is OS X Mountain Lion.
First, see if your Mac is supported > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs If it's compatible, make a backup of your data, open App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion. Then, Mountain Lion will start downloading, and when it finishes, the Mountain Lion installer will show up. Just follow the steps to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
Also, check if your apps are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
If your Mac isn't compatible with Mountain Lion,  you can try getting OS X Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4949 If it's compatible, call Apple to get OS X Lion > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

Why do I have 2 versions of the program pages on my mac after the update?

Do you have both the old and the new version? If so, you must have purchased Pages via the retail DVD (iWork) - the installer does not update in this case, but installs a brand new version separately giving you the choice of which one you want to use.

  • Mac OS X Update Combined v. 10.5.6 wouldn't install

I have a MacBookPro Mac OS X 10.5.4 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 2GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM memory, I installed the update to the Mac OS X Update Combined 10.5.6 version, it worked, I click install in the Software Update app., it tells me to restart, I click "restart now" and so far so good.
The installation begins, and it gets stuck at around 10%. I thought maybe it needed time, so I kept it all night, for about 7 hours, the next morning it was still stuck where i left it, it didn't move a tiny bit. So i'm not sure how to get the installation for my update to work, or where am i going wrong (all the other updates were installed successfully except this one)?
    Any suggestions, please.
    Mark

I'm left confused by this discussion... and, I would hate to add to the confusion of others. But here is my problem: If you've downloaded the combo update from the Apple website, there is no need to utilize Software Update to install the program!
Software Update is useful only to the extent that it can alert you to the existence of an available update. It is up to you whether you wish to proceed with the update (via Software Update). My preference, however, is to do as you have done: download the Combo (if available) update from Apple website, then restart your Mac in Safe Boot and install the dmg/pkg that you now have waiting in your "downloads" folder.

  • Mac OS X Update can't be installed

I am trying to update Mac OS X for my computer (from 10.4.6 to 10.4.8), but I keep getting an error message saying:
"The update 'Mac OS X Update Combined (PowerPC)' can't be installed.
    Sorry, an unexpected error occurred.
The installer package has been moved to the Trash. To try again, open the package from the finder."
There have also been problems in the past with installing other programs.
    Has anyone encountered this problem?

    Hi Jenny,
Did you repair permissions before trying to install the update?
There may be a problem with the hard drive's directory that needs repair. Put the install disk in the drive and start while holding down the "c" key. Once started, select Disk utility from the menu, click on the hard drive on the left and then click Repair Disk.
If Software Update can't install it, go to the Downloads area of S the Support site and download the Combined updater for 10.4.8 and install it outside of Software Update.

  • How do I remove Mac OS X Update Combined?

After updating to 10.6.8 I began having problems. One with my NVIDIA driver (9400M). So I installed the current update from the NVIDIA site. That didnt seem to solve the problem. Unable to revert to my former setting I tried to re-install 10.6.8 in an attempt to restore my driver. After downloading the Mac OS X Update Combined the colors on my screen were slightly out of hue, the mouse was flickering once it entered the dock, and a game I frequently play, World of Warcraft, would no longer run. How do I remove the Combined update or restore my setting? No I do not have the Installation disc, the store where I purchased my Mac Book Pro did not supply me with one. Im begging for the communities help, I need a solution to this.

Since this update and my browsing went down the sink, it takes any page 30 second to load, either on Safari Firefox or Crome. My IMac is the only computer affected so I know it is not network or ISP issue.
I hope there is away to revert it, I'd hate to reformat because of an update, and still there is no guarantee this problem wont happen again after reformating and installing the OS again and do the update
Is it time to start worring from the Mac updates not from Viruses?

  • 10.5.3 error: 'The update "Mac OS X Update" can't be saved.'

    Hello,
When I run Software Update (on my iMac - no problems on the MacBook Pro) and try and download the 10.5.3 update I get the following messages in the error window"
