Mac OS X v 10.6.7 and Canon MP560 printer

Hi,
I just bought a brand new iMac and cannot for the life of me connect it to my Canon MP560 printer, I have installed pretty much all of the drivers on the canon support site but I have no idea how to get it working!
Thanks,
Cassidy

Well that certainly is the correct path to the networked printer. So with this queue not printing then this is a concern.
There are several things I suggest you do if you haven't already.
1. Turn off the power to the MP560 and unplug the power cord for 1 minute. Then reconnect the power cord and turn it back on again.
2. Open Print & Fax and delete the MP560 network printer. Highlight the printer in the list and then press the minus button to remove it.
3. With Print & Fax still open, move the mouse to the printer list and Control-click. Click the menu Reset printing system. This will delete all printers and scanners in Print & Fax, so if you have other printers or scanners that are still working fine then you may not want to perform this step.
4. Restart the Mac
5. With the Mac restarted and connected to your wireless network, open Print & Fax and click the + button to add a printer. With the Default view displayed the MP560 should be seen - once as a scanner (showing Bonjour Scanner in the Kind column) and after a few seconds it will also show as a printer (showing canonijnetwork in the Kind column). Select the printer entry and ensure the Print Using menu changes to Canon MP560 series. Click Add to complete the print queue creation.
6. Try to print to this newly created queue.
7. Cross your fingers
8. Scream for joy when the printer starts to print or curse and reply to me when it doesn't....

  • Is it possible to have an HP and Canon wireless printer on the same wireless home network?

I presently have a Canon MP560 printer on my wireless home network. I do not have this printer installed on my computer. I purchased an HP 3520e-All-In-One hoping I could have both on my home network.  My os is Windows 7 64bit. I tried to install the HP 3520e, and received the following error message - "Your printer failed to join the wireless network", and said the issue was that MAC address filtering may be enabled on my computer, which it is not.  It is disabled.  Question:  Is there a workaround to have two wireless printers on the same network, and if so, what is it?  Thank you so much for your help.

    Hi,
I actually have 3 printers from 3 vendors on my home network. I have tested using MAC filter and w/o MAC filter, no problem at all. The MAC filter should be on the router, not from your computer. Have you checked that ? My suggestion: use a computer on the network to connect the printer using USB cable then setup from there. The printer will use EXISTING setup from your computer and you won't need to enter security key.
    Regards.

  • Hello, I currently have a MacBook snow leapord and i'm trying to connect it with my Canon MP560 printer, i put in the CD and installed everything properly but now when i add a printer it says a Queue already exists, i click continue and nothing happens???

    Hello,
I'm using a MacBook Snow Leapord and I'm trying to connect it with my Canon MP560 printer/scanner.
I installed the CD and followed along with the manual and did everything it asked, at the end it told me it was finished.
So then I went to go print something and an error had occured so i went to the file menu on Microsoft Word for
Mac and clicked Print/Add Printer and then i click on the Canon MP560 series-1 as it was the only one to click on.
When I did it stated that I already has a Queue for this printer and if I'd like to add a new one so I clicked continue and nothing
    had happend. PLEASE HELP
    sincerely,
    Laura.

I would recommend to download the driver appropriate for your system from the Canon webiste or, after installing it, to run software update and it will detect it for you.
If you have the last driver appropriate for your system, you may wish to reset the printing system. To do this, go to Sys prefs/print and fax and, upon clicking minus button, also press Option/alt key. You will be asked to confirm, do it. Then, add the printer by pressing plus button, it should work now.
But, before doing this, download the last good driver, CDs usually contain outdated drivers.

I previously had a MacBook Pro that worked wirelessly with my Canon MP560 printer.  I recently purchased a MacBook Air and I'm trying to set up the printer with my new computer.  I tried downloading the driver directly from the Canon website and I tried downloading one from Apple's website.  Both times it installed correctly but when I tried to print it says that the software for the printer I am trying to use is not longer supported.  It's on the list of supported printers but it's not working.  HELP!

Okay, let's try it this way. You've got that dialog box onscreen. Click PRINT (see circle and arrow):
    Then you should see this:
Click that arrow and that window should expand to show you this:
Your actual choices in the last menu may read a little differently but that's the pulldown where you choose.

Turn of the MG and unplug the power cord. Leave it off for about a minute and then reconnect the power cord and turn the power back on. Wait while the device attempts to reconnect to your wireless network - the blue wifi symbol on the MG will flash and then stay on once it has connected. If it keeps flashing then you will have to reconnect the MG to your wireless access point via the control panel on the MG.

  • Unable to set wireless connection with imac and Canon MX860 printer ...

I recently converted to a Mac and bought a Mac Book, iMac, Airport Extreme, and a Canon MX860 printer. i have installed the canon software numerous times on my iMac to set up the wireless connection. yes, the airport extreme recognizes the printer and i am able to connect to my private and guest networks. the signal strength is good. It's the next part that I'm always stuck at. The Printer settings does not display when i choose More Printers and select Canon IJ Network. I called Apple support and we tried changing my network settings to an unsecured network and it still has the same issue. It was recommended this may be Canon driver issue and advised me to contact Canon. I reset the Airport, changed my network name and password .. i think i tried everything and it still does not work. What was I thinking when i said i wanted to convert to Mac? I can't move forward and connect my macbook or pc yet until I successfully connect the imac. Yes, i installed the latest canon IJ Network tool. of course the USB connection is fine but that defeats the whole purpose if why i bought this printer. please advise how to fix. this is getting very frustrating.

"I ran into the same network installation issue that I've seen in other Canon printers. Canon's network setup forces you to connect by USB cable first. Only after you tell the program that you want to use the computer over the network can you remove the USB cable, move the printer if needed, and if you're using a wired connection, reconnect a network cable. The process isn't particularly difficult, but it's more cumbersome than what other printers let you do, which is simply put the printer where you want it, plug in an Ethernet cable, and install the software." source = http://shop.pcmag.com/shop/product/pcmag/84634068.aspx?SB=6&OB=1

If you set firewall at "essential connections only," wireless networked MX860 won't work. You must add MP navigator and solution apps to your firewall enabled list. Then it worked fine on the admin account, but still won't work on users account which required additional permission settings and selections. • AirPort Extreme and USB NTFS External Drive and Canon MP810 printer

The AirPort Extreme works great as a wireless router. And with the additional AirPort Express, I now have a WDS in my house. I can also stream my iTunes downstairs. This is all great, it's working.
    What's not working is:
    1. Adding a USB NTFS-formatted external Maxtor drive to the USB port Extreme.
    2. Able to copy, scan, and use "all" printing functionality of the Canon MP810 USB printer when connected to the USB port of the Extreme. Please I note I can choose File, Print from most applications and it works, but I can't use Canon's My Printer tool to access the printer wirelessly.
I guess I'd like an unofficial confirmation that this is correct. I am a little disappointed that Apple didn't communicate this correctly in any of their specifications.
I will begin looking into the comparable Linksys wireless router, but I have the strange feeling that I will get the same results.
I don't know how Dell is able to do it with it's AIO 966 printer.
    Thanks,
    Frank

    1. Adding a USB NTFS-formatted external Maxtor drive to the USB port Extreme.
Problem arises as OS X can not write to NTFS formatted drives and therefore you need to use HFS+ or FAT32.
    2. Able to copy, scan, and use "all" printing functionality of the Canon MP810 USB printer when connected to the USB port of the Extreme. Please I note I can choose File, Print from most applications and it works, but I can't use Canon's My Printer tool to access the printer wirelessly.
Can I scan using my all-in-one when it is connected to the USB port of an Airport Express or Airport Extreme Base Station?

I guess I'd like an unofficial confirmation that this is correct. I am a little disappointed that Apple didn't communicate this correctly in any of their specifications.
As you can see from this page
    http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/specs.html
    It does state quite clearly
+For shared printing with a USB printer +
If it allowed scanning, I am sure it would have said
+For shared printing and scanning with a USB all-in-one+
    or similar.
If it doesn't explicitly say it will do something I would assume it can't.

  • Color Management and Canon i960 printer

When I go to print from Aperture it says to turn off the Canon color management driver. How do I do this?

It depends on the printer driver. My Epson driver has a special, color section. However my simple Canon pixma doesn't have this. It either automatically turns color management off (in PS and Aperture) Or you have to use a workaround (when printing form e.g. Illustrator) By selecting the sRGB profile in the colorsync tab.
So you're best option at this point is to contact Canon support: Luckily for you, they describe how to print using ICC-profiles on their website:
How to use custom profiles in printing
For printing using a custom, user-made or third-party profiles, follow the procedures below. ColorSync color processing based on the custom profile can be performed by the application, or by the printer driver.
    1. Specifying an ICC Profile within an Application
    2. Open the image you want to print in an application. Edit/retouch the image as needed.
    3. Check that the correct ICC profile has been assigned, select the item that allows the application to manage colors, then specify the profile for printing. For example, from the Print or Print with Preview screen of Adobe Photoshop, select 'Photoshop Manages Colors', then select a profile as the printer profile. At this time, please clear the 'Black Point Compensation' checkbox.
The ICC profiles installed for Canon photo paper appear as follows.
Note: The profile names for other manufacturers' papers will appear differently.
    (For example: Canon Pro9000 PR1)
    (1) Printer model name
    (2) Media type
Each letter pair represents its respective Media type.
PR = Canon Photo Paper Pro and Pro II
SP: = Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy
MP: = Canon Matte Photo Paper
SG: = Canon Photo Paper Plus Semi-gloss
GL: = Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II
PT: = Canon Photo Paper Pro Platinum
Note: If your printer does not support one of the above paper types, the corresponding profile will not be installed. Please see the on-screen manual of your printer for supported paper types.
    (3) Print quality
The numbers correspond to the numbers on the print quality slide bar in the [Quality & Media] dialog box opened from the Print screen of the driver. The lower the number, the finer the quality.
    4. Select the command to print from your application to bring up the Print screen.
In Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6, select Color Matching from the drop-down menu, and then select 'ColorSync'.
Note: If you are using Adobe Photoshop CS2 or newer and have selected 'Let Photoshop Determine Colors', the 'Color Matching' from the Print Options pop-up menu is automatically set to 'ColorSync.'
Using earlier versions of Mac OS X, from the Print dialogue, select Color Options from the drop-down menu, set 'Color Correction': 'None'.
    5. Select Quality & Media from the drop-down menu. Set the Media Type and print quality settings to the same parameters as those in the custom profile.
    6. Click 'Print' to print your image.

  • 10.4.10 and Canon MP500 Printer - Doen't Work

The pre-installed drivers didn't work so I loaded the MP500 drivers - both with the installed disc (didn't work) and downloaded from the Canon site. Followed all directions and tried to "Add" the printer but recieved "Error: -9672". Any thoughts?

Just curious — are you trying to add a Canon printer that's on a Firewire connection? I ask because I too have reinstalled the latest Canon printer driver for my Canon i9900 tabloid photo printer, and I've discovered that it is anything but "plug & play". I am using a Firewire connection that worked fine under Classic, Jaguar and Panther, but under Tiger my printer can only be added successfully if connected via USB. After losing a lot of sleep the other night trying to solve this issue — which is the inspiration for this tired rant, LOL— I have come to the conclusion that Canon's OS X/Tiger drivers just don't work. It's like they threw something together and just posted it, without warning their unsuspecting customers that these were basically BETA (untested) drivers. They didn't even update their troubleshooting sections to deal with these sorts of issues. Meanwhile, I know from what I've uncovered so far that there are too many of us who have lost plug & play functionality under Tiger in conjunction with various Canon models.
Since Tiger is not a new OS and the Canon driver I installed after updating to Tiger was posted THIS YEAR on the Canon Web site, it would seem that they've had more than enough time to either work out the bugs, or at least come on the record to admit that their drivers are not fully supported under Mac OS Tiger. I've read Canon "Read Me", and it places no disclaimer on Firewire plug & play functionality. The only thing the documentation discloses is a loss of functionality for things like banner printing, which were supported by the Classic drivers and earlier versions of OS X.
In my case, I cannot add my printer at all when connected via Firewire. If I try, I get a bunch of Gimp-print BETA version 5.x choices, none of which contain my model number, and none of work work in the slightest. Even so, I know that the Mac can "see" my printer via Firewire because it shows up in the System Profiler, and also because the standalone Canon Printer Utility app continues to function correctly insofar as I can clean the print heads, print test pages, etc.
With the current Canon OS X driver, I can ONLY use the printer via USB. Trying to get my Firewire connection back up and running, I added it that way and then disconnected the USB cable so that I could reattach the Firewire connection. I then restarted the computer. Yet Tiger's Printer Setup Utility, under preferences, still lists it as a USB connection and won't "see" it via Firewire. So it would appear that Tiger is not auto detecting the switchover, and there is no way that I have found to cause Tiger to "refresh" the connection, either.
When I attempt to manually add my Canon i9900 while attached via Firewire to the OEM Firewire ports, I see only "BJ_LUNO" listed TWICE when the list of available printers pops up. I Googled BJ_LUNO and I found one site in the UK where a user reported the exact same problem. A friendly poster who stepped into help advised the person to hook their Canon printer, which was a different model than my own, up via USB instead of Firewire. It was subsequently reported that the Canon printer began to work correctly under USB. Unfortunately, the user who had received this advice never came back to say if they were ever able to get the Firewire functionality back again. As such, I am assuming they decided to live with USB and left it at that.
Because I work with huge picture files in Photoshop and my Mac doesn't have USB 2.0, if I want fast, I have to connect via Firewire. Meanwhile, my Firewire iPod connection works fine. My Firewire Epson photo perfection scanner runs fine. So it would appear that Canon is at fault by releasing what appears to be Tiger-compatible driver from all available documentation, but which, in fact, is not a plug & play driver when connecting via Firewire under Tiger.
As a last ditch effort, I visited the Guten(?)Gimp Web site and was about to install their newer Gimp print drivers, when I discovered that my model, a Canon i9900, isn't on the list of printers the Guten Print drivers support. By contrast, when I visit the Apple document that lists which drivers are pre-loaded by Tiger, my model, supposedly, IS supported (but only plug & play via USB, which is the caveat Apple has seemingly left out).
Ironically, I finally upgraded to Tiger only because I was having funky problems under Panther wherein my Apple laserwriters were not being seen (EOF errors and such). I also upgraded to Tiger because under Panther my iTunes would display the dreaded beach ball and would not complete startup with the sole exception of when I rebooted Mac and immediately launched iTunes without anything else running. Even at that, under Panther, I could never let iTunes go idle after I launched it fresh from a reboot because if I did allow iTunes to run in the background while using other applications it would eventually crash (and again if the computer went to sleep).
All this is to say that the only version of OS X that didn't give me grief was Jaguar, which everyone said was so buggy but worked fine for me & all devices I own and use. With all these problems it might sound like I am a grumpy newbie, but the truth is I am a Mac OS user going back to the Apple II days. The first Mac I purchased ran system 7.x running on a PowerMac 7500. Those OSes were stable and but for a few extension conflicts in the early days, I was able to find my way around in relatively short amount of time. Not so with OS X. For every problem I solve by upgrading my OS, I create 10 more problems that are even more puzzling and or obscure than the first. I'm not too proud to admit that I'm totally lost…
    Any advice?

  • Snow Leopard and Canon Printer Drivers - significant unhelpful change

Is there any work around for the following? I have a new mac book pro
with snow leopard. Which means I downloaded the new Canon driver for
Pixma 9500. And am now using Lightroom 3 rather than 2.
An option that used to exist no longer exists. It used to be when I
chose a paper profile (say Canon Premium Paper Pro) I could still
manage color options in the driver. I could adjust slightly the reds
or if it were black and white I could change the tone (warm tone/cool
tone). Now, which I chose a paper profile, those options are "blanked out." I
can't use them. Is this because of Snow Leopards CUPS functionality rather than the IJ.
Given how many variables there are with printing and getting the right
image, I really wish I had the option of adjusting my printer output even when I'm using a paper profile.
The options exist if I let the printer manage the colors (as opposed to
using the profiles) but the image is much farther off to begin with and
requires much more experimenting. I have not reloaded Elements 6 and Canon Easy Print Pro. I wonder if it will let me fiddle with color options? Or Elements 9 with an updated Canon Easy Print Pro.
I'm disappointed that I've lost this option by upgrading my hardware and software. I'd be grateful for any advice or feedback.

I don't have Lightroom to confirm this but maybe the application is contributing to your issue.
Looking at the menus of the v10.36.2.0 driver, which is the latest version of the Canon driver you would be using with the Pro 9500, there is the Quality & Media menu and the Color Options menu. Through the Q&M menu you can select the Canon paper types and then via the Color Options menu you can adjust the colors.
But if you open the Color Matching menu and change the setting from Canon Color Matching to ColorSync and then select a paper type you then find that the sliders in Color Options are not available. Maybe Lightroom is set to use ColorSync and thus the adjustment in the Color Options menu is not available for you.
