Mac OS X v10.5: How do I turn off Voice Over?

Somehow I did something that now results in a voice telling me everything that is being done on screen. Every window that opens, file that is clicked on, etc.
How do I turn this feature off?
Thanks.

Open System Preferences>Universal Access, click the Seeing tab and the turn Voice Over off.

  • How do I turn off voice-over service on ipad?

(Please read this all the way through to avoid confusion)
When I watch certain channels On Demand on my ipad, there is a voice-over for the visually impaired .. a narrator that describes every single little thing the characters are doing (which is amusing when it's a sex scene). I cannot find any way to turn this off. It's mostly on USA network. I have looked everywhere and can't find a way to shut it off. It has nothing to do with the closed-captioning, or the audio/secondary audio function. Can anyone help?

See this Apple doc -> iPhone: Configuring accessibility features (including VoiceOver and Zoom)
    VoiceOver
If VoiceOver is on and you want to turn it off from the device instead of from iTunes, remember that a double-tap acts like a single tap and you need to use three fingers to scroll when VoiceOver is on:
    Press Home.
    Tap Settings. Then double-tap Settings.
    Tap General. Then double-tap General.
Use three fingers on the screen to scroll to Accessibility.
    Tap Accessibility. Then double-tap Accessibility.
    Tap VoiceOver. Then double-tap VoiceOver.
Tap "On"  next to VoiceOver. Then double-tap "On" to turn it off.
You can configure the device to display options for VoiceOver, Zoom, or White on Black when you triple-click the Home button. This feature is off by default; to enable it, tap  Settings > General > Accessibility > Triple-click Home.
If VoiceOver is on and the screen is black, but you can still use the device by pressing volume up and volume down, you may have screen curtain on. Try triple-tapping using three fingers on the device display to turn off screen curtain. Or connect the device to iTunes (see above).
You can also turn it off from iTunes, that document goes over that too.

  • How do I turn off voice control for ipod features?

    HI,
I'm having an issue with my iphone 4, when using with a 3rd party set of earbud headphones that include an inline microphone, wind and ambient noise cause the voice control to go haywaire.  I've found the option to turn off voice dialing for the phone, but can't find a way to shut this off in iPod mode. Help?  Please?  It's driving me crazy...

I have the same problem with my ipod touch 4th generation.  It only started a few days ago after I finally updated it ios 6.1.6; I never knew Voice Control existed on my ipod before then.
It has not happened when I had headphones plugged in, only when it was sitting by itself on a table and I wasn't touching it.
The first time it happened, it was sitting on my night table at 4am while I was sleeping.  The second time it happened, it was sitting on my desk at work while I was quietly typing; I had to apologize to my coworkers while I tried to figure out how to make it stop.  Just now it happened again, sitting on my kitchen counter while I was on the other side of the room.  It has happened about four more times while I was sitting here at the computer researching the problem.  I even checked to make sure the case (Otterbox) wasn't pressing on the Home button, and it's not.
I HATE IT!!!!!!  It makes me so angry!  If I can't figure out a way to make it stop, I'm going to have to stop using it altogether.  Is that what you want, Apple?  And no, I won't upgrade and buy a newer model; I'll get an Android version.

  • 6300 - how do i turn off voice tags - SO ANNOYING

Now i've got my new Nokia 6300, (of which i must say is NOWHERE near as good as the 6230i & REALLY regret buying this phone).
Anyway, does anyone know how to turn off the voice tags when connected to a bluetooth headset?

You guys must have a very different 6300 than I do. Although it is not perfect in every way, I simply love mine. I find it to be incredibly refined with very few flaws. Of course I am running the latest version of the firmware (v.5.5) and mine is unbranded. I think that might make a difference, especially if you are running an early buggy firmware version. Also, I don't use the voice dialing function at all so I can't comment on that. It is true that many people have reported problems with that function, however, I haven't had any need to turn it off or deactivate it.
Of course it would be better if the phone had more internal memory but I haven't found that to be much of a problem since one can expand the memory up to 2 gigs with micro SD cards. The 6230i's expandability I believe is limited to 512 meg if I recall correctly and its screen is pretty bad to put it mildly. Anyway, I simply store and move most apps and everything else I can over to the card memory, thereby freeing up as much internal phone memory as possible which leaves me with over 3 megs free internal phone memory. Hasn't caused me any inconvenience yet, although I imagine if I tried to transfer a file larger than 3 megs via bluetooth to the phone, that might not be possible. I don't see that as being a major problem though.
There are so many things that are new, different and BETTER on this phone compared to older phones (even the 6233 which is not that old), that I really love. For example, the fabulous display that displays 16 million colors and about 14 lines of very sharp text in Opera Mini, and that doesn't turn off too quickly and can be read when the back light is off; the cool flashing notification lights that alert you to unread messages, missed calls, voice mails, unviewed reminders, etc; the way the radio auto tunes itself to available stations; the ability to have flashlite animated wallpaper and screensavers which allows for the display of some great stuff, for example, a variety of nice large animated clock wallpapers (available for free download from the web); the way almost every menu and function is so much more refined than on previous phones; the solid stainless steel case and slim form factor; the overall great build quality (except for the rattling power on switch, which is a very minor issue); the standard mini USB connector, (instead of the horrible proprietary pop port); and I'm sure I could think of more things but these are just some of the things that occur to me quickly.
Try browsing the web with Opera Mini 4 beta 3 on the 6300. It is just amazing what that little screen can do.
    Currently using 6300 & 6233 (backup)

  • Out of no where, voice over seems to have taken over my phone.  can't enter password. how do I reset or turn off voice over?

Out of no where my phone suddenly showed enlarged numbers and letters.  Voice Over has taken over the phone.
The phone is unresponsive when I try to enter the password to gain accesss to the phone.  I can only power on and off and that does not stop Voice Over.  Any ideas as to what could be wrong and how I correct it?

    Greetings midgiesmom58,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that VoiceOver is enabled on your iPhone and you are having a hard time turning it off. In this situation, I would recommend reading over the Managing Accessibility features using your device section in the attached article and use iTunes to help you disable VoiceOver.

  • TS2755 How do I turn off voice auto complete suggestions?

I've turned off SIRI, but continue to get loud and annoying auto complete suggestions when I'm trying to compose a message. This is particularly irritating when I'm in a meeting or the library.

Check accessibility and VoiceOver to see if it is turned on and what features are active (Settings app > Accessiblity > Speak Auto text (also look at VoiceOver))
