Problem is iTunes, reinstalled recently as 10.6.3; saying needs QuickTime 7.5.5 or higher.the iTunes 10.6.3 was installed a few days ago by the same tech person selling me the computer about two years ago, when the OS was reinstalled including iTunes. I've not been able to make iTunes work since the computer was returned.
The tech person is busy and will get back to me eventually, so I'm trying to see if I can do anything by myself. This shouldn't of happened, though everyone makes mistakes; is what I'm guessing? -

Hi, I have recently got myself a second hand computer MAC OS X Version 10.4.11,Processor 800 MHz PowerPC G4. Have only used windows before. Unfortunately I managed to uninstall Adobe but now can't seem to reinstall as this an older computer and is not compatible with the new versions. Sorry to sound thick but really have never used Apple before. Would really appreciate any help at all. Thanks..
Windows or apple it makes no difference, if you don't have the install discs you can't install.
Did you buy the machine with Adobe (you don't say what adobe program you're talking about) installed? If so the vendor should have given you the discs or else it's technically a pirated copy. If you're talking about acrobat (which is free) then you should be able to find older versions on the adobe site. -
I am trying to get my system current. I am now running Mac OS X, version 10.6.8 (I believe this is "Snow Leopard"). What should I upgrade to?
The current system is OS X 10.8 which is downloadable from the App store, which you can upgrade to directly if your system meets the system requirements. Note that starting with OS X 10.7, PowerPC-based programs will no longer run. So, for example, people with Office 2004 got surprised when they upgraded and found that the older Office programs would no longer run. Newer Office programs are OK.

Are you saying the iBook G4 you have is running OS X 10.5.6?
The next file to get for it would be the Combo update 10.5.8 for Leopard.
And any old archived Flash player for 10.5.8 from Adobe flash site.
A browser such as TenFourFox, iCab, SeaMonkey-PPC, these are OK
but you won't be able to go past Leopard 10.5(.8) in a PowerPC Mac.
All these are free bits, however anything past 10.5.8 Mac OS X
would require a newer Mac with Intel-based architecture. Macs
made in 2006+ can see later OS X versions.

If you're using an Intel Mac, phone the Apple Store and order Mac OS X 10.6.

Can I install Mac OS X version 10.5 on my PowerPC G5 Tan Tower, with a single 1.6 processor, 4 GB DDR SDRAM. I am running version 10.4.11 and want to update to 10.5
I also need to know where I can find the software to buy, they don't seem to have it in the apple store.You really should check things out first before speaking.

You 2005 mini shipped with a PowerPC G4 CPU ranging between 1.25 and 1.5 (late sept 2005) Ghz. PowerPC is not Intel. This mini will not run current releases of Skype for the following reasons:

Just tried purchasing Aperture3 and it said it was unavailable because I only have Mac OS X version 10.6.8. Is there another download that is compatible?
Old apps that run under Snow Leopard will not run under Lion? That's cruel.
Two problems: Snow Leopard has the Roseta-environment, that emulates a PowerPC. Lion does not have this any longer, so you can only run Intel-Applications in Lion (or universal binaries).
My PowerPC Applications look like this in Lion - I see quite a few "ghost busters" - mostly device drivers for my Nikon Scan, Panoramamaker, etc.
Since MacOS 10.7.4 the next generation of Applications is approaching - 64bit-only-applications, and 32bit plug-ins will be left out - all 32bit-only external editors. The newest version of Aperture requires a 64bit Intel processor and will not except 32bit plug-ins- all older NIK plug-ins are a problem.

My first question is how do you tell the flavor of mac os from the build e.g.snow leopard, lion, maverick etc ? The kernel build in system profiler says Darwin, is that what determines the flavor ?
My actual problem is apple tv icon is not showing on the task bar. However, apple tv is working fine with iTunes ?

To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
