Mac OS X Version 10.5.8 Leopard
I have an Imac from 2007 that I haven't used much of for a couple of years. It still is Leopard Version 10.5.8 Build: 9L31A. I have tried to install Snow Leopard but wont let me because I dont have 10.6. I need to upgrade my computer because I'm trying to upgrade my Imovie which is still version 5. Does anyone know how I can either A) get I movie 9 or better without upgrading my computer or B) know how to upgrade to snow leopard, lion, or mountain lion? Thanks!

fter upgrading to Lion i can't instal the face time app its type ( FaceTime can’t be installed on “Mac” because the version of Mac OS X is too new. ) can anyone help me please .
notes : on snow leopard the face time was work normally but i delete it the app i thought it will work after i reinstall itLion comes with FaceTime. Look in your dock or in the Applications folder.

The current system is OS X 10.8 which is downloadable from the App store, which you can upgrade to directly if your system meets the system requirements. Note that starting with OS X 10.7, PowerPC-based programs will no longer run. So, for example, people with Office 2004 got surprised when they upgraded and found that the older Office programs would no longer run. Newer Office programs are OK.

The Mail version for your machine is 4.6 (1085) You can get it via the Combo updater. Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
Then follow with software updates to pick up the most recent security and iTunes updates. -

My mac is a version 10.5.8. I just downloaded ios7, and it is telling me I need to download iTunes 11 to connect to my phone, but I don't have a new enough version. What do I do?! I think snow leopard was the last update I purchased. Is there a way to convert my phone back? I need to be able to update it, but don't have the money for a new computer.. Help!
10.5.8 is Leopard, not Snow Leopard. Leopard ran on both PPC and Intel Macs, but Snow Leopard runs only on Intel Macs. iTunes 11 will run on Snow Leopard, though I'm not sure whether iOS7 requires a higher system (Apple seem to specify only itunes 11 and not an OSX system so you may be OK). However if your Mac is a PPC you cannot proceed; if it's an Intel one you can purchase Snow Leopard in the Online Store (search for Snow Leopard to find it quickly) - it's not expensive. It's not possible to roll your phone back to iOS6.

ITunes 11.1.1 Update Error - Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard

I've been reading about the non-descript error message that Windows users are getting when attempting to update to iTunes 11.1.1. It appears to affect Mac OS X as well in that I too am getting the same error. I'm running a 20" aluminum iMac with Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. What's interesting though is that when I checked iTunes to make sure it still functioned correctly and took a look at "About iTunes" it shows version 11.1.1 (11). So it appears that the update actually occured, but somehow did not finish-up quite right??? Is there any cause to be concerned, or do I just keep it the way it is? I ran the update twice and it still shows-up as an available update in Software Update.
I'm beginning to suspect that there may be a problem with the update.

Based upon a recommendation from a friend who is an authorized Apple service provider, I downloaded the iTunes installer directly from the Apple/iTunes website and ran the install. I worked perfectly and iTunes is working normally... I think.
FYI, one problem I encountered with the Software Update version of the installation is that iTunes didn't "see" my iPhone 4S. The new installation resolved that issue.
I hope this helps anyone else out there that is experiencing the same problem. -
....desperating trying to install itunes 10.7, but it asked me to install Mac OS X 10.6.8. I did, but then it said that I needed to install Java for Mac OS x 10.6. I did that and now it keeps saying 'this update requires Mac OS X version 10.6??

No Mac can install an older Mac operating system than shipped with it.
The only minor exception is Macs which shipped with Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X, but those ones only could run the Mac OS 9 that came with it and newer one, and Mac OS X that came with it and newer one up to the limitations of the hardware.
Also no Mac can install an operating system disc from a different Mac that is different either in model or vintage.
