Mac OS X version 10.5.8 - need an update to run iTunes 7

I currently have a Mac OS X Version 10.5.8. I am unable to use my iPhone with iTunes, since it request version 7. I cannot download it, since my computer is outdated.
What should i do? How can i get my computer up to date?

You need to update to Snow Leopard 10.6 first.
To do that call Apple and order the install DVD for Snow Leopard.

(I can connect directly to my Airport Extreme by ethernet and download the update that way).  Is a later version of A E software available for download anywhere?   Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Download and install AirPort Utility 5.4.2 for Mac OS X 10.4.11 "Tiger" here:
    AirPort Utility 5.4.2
Once installed, launch AirPort Utility. It will tell you if a firmware upgrade is available for your Express.

    Hi
You need to upgrade to the next OS 10.6 Snow Leopard by purchasing the DVD online.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
and once installed, use Software Update
    - to update to 10.6.8
    - and update your iTunes.

No, you can't run that on Mac OS X; what makes you think you could?
If you want to run Windows software on a Mac, you need to install Boot Camp and Windows, or use other virtualization software such as Virtual Box, VMware, or Parallels to install and run Windows.

  • This maybe a dumb question but...If I buy Aperture are the updates already installed into the purchased version or do I need to update them?

Should come updated from the Mac App Store. Obviously, it's tough to keep things up to date when they are sitting in a box on a store shelf.

If you have enough room on the boot drive, head to System Preferences > Accounts and create another Admin Account, log out and into it and try your Software Update again.
If this doesn't work, connect a Ethernet cable to the router or modem (power off/on) and try again.
If this doesn't work then run through this list of fixes.

  • My Mac OS is version 10.5.8 can I update to the lastest OS?

I want to upgrade the OS but not sure if I can go straight to the latest OS or if I need to install another one first?

    Another post mentioned this:....
Your model must have a 64-bit EFI boot ROM. See OS X v10.6- Macs that use the 64-bit kernel
An easy way to tell if you are running a 64-bit kernel is to use the uname command-line program. Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder and enter the command line:
              $ uname -a
    Press RETURN.
The "x86_64" in the excerpt below means that you are running a 64-bit kernel. If the output showed "i386" instead, that would mean a 32-bit kernel.
I did the above and it returned......
    9.8.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.8.0: Wed Jul 15 16:55:01 PDT 2009; root:xnu-1228.15.4~1/RELEASE_I386 i386
but like you say I have no issues running applications
as for cricket....I only follow rugby

  • Have mac book pro OSX 10.6.8 need 10.7 to run dragon what should i do

have a Macbook Pro running  OSX 10.6.8  need to upgrade to 10.7 to run Dragon  What is the easiest way to do this?

Go to Apple Menu / About This Mac / More Info / Hardware Overview.
Check Model Identifier - the second item in the list on the right. If you have MacBook Pro3,1 or higher, and the computer has more than 2 gB RAM installed, you can install Lion (10.7) or Mountain Lion (10.8) by logging in to the App Store. The cost is $20 for either upgrade.
App Store.app is in the Applications folder on your computer.
Use the same id and password as you use here.
Be aware however that some of the Apps you are running now will not be compatible with the newer OS - either one.

  • I deleted an app from my mac but it still says that i need an update but i can do this because i downloaded it from another apple id

    what to do?

Ignore it unless you actually now want the application. In that case redownload it then update it by logging into the App Store with the other Apple ID.

  • Need OS update but old Itunes/pc is dead

I hope I haven't hijacked another thread..I did have a quick look. I have an iphone 3G and desperately need to upgrade from 3.12 to 4.1. My old PC and original Itunes are long gone (the great crash of 09)and I now use my Wifes laptop. It has Itunes sync'd with her Iphone, however It keeps telling me that If I upgrade to 4.0 or newer it will wipe all files from my phone. I can't sync with wifes laptop as I will lose 14GB of music on my phone and a lot of Apps as well...How do I get an OS upgrade and retain my information? The phone really needs it as it is getting quite glitchy..
    Thanks in advance.

If I were in your shoes, this is what I'd do:
First, create another user account on your wife's computer with admin. privileges, for your use. Then:
By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected under preferences in itunes(under the edit menu in Windows).
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in Outlook or Windows Address Book or whatever supported applications you use. The entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect your phone, itunes running, NO NOT SYNC or UPDATE at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline. This process of restoring from backup will also update your phone to iOS 4.1.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go, and if something were to go wrong, your data & content are now on your computer & can be easily restored back to your phone.

The reference to the iTunes update is for your syncing computer, not the iPhone/iPod.

  • Upgrading Mac OS X version 10.5.8 to get to Mac OS X version 10.6.8

I have a MacBook Pro Intel Core Duo 2.4 Ghz, Mac OS X version 10.5.8 and I need to get to Mac OS X version 10.6.8 so that I can install iTunes 10.7 so that I can use my  iPhone 5 – does anybody know the easiest route to get there? Any risk of losing data on the way? Many thanks!

Get SL install disc from Apple's online store's telesales agents: 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775. AFAIK, no data loss risk, since the installer just replaces OS components and basic Apple apps. However, when upgrading, it's always advisable to have a restorable backup. See these for details:

  • I've a ten year-old iMac, with Mac OS X version 10.5.8

    I've a ten year-old iMac, with Mac OS X version 10.5.8 & PowerPC G5 processor
Problem is iTunes, reinstalled recently as 10.6.3; saying needs QuickTime 7.5.5 or higher.

the iTunes 10.6.3 was installed a few days ago by the same tech person selling me the computer about two years ago, when the OS was reinstalled including iTunes.  I've not been able to make iTunes work since the computer was returned.
The tech person is busy and will get back to me eventually, so I'm trying to see if I can do anything by myself.  This shouldn't of happened, though everyone makes mistakes; is what I'm guessing?
