You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications (including Safari) first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
After installing, reboot your Mac and relaunch Safari, then in Safari Preferences/Security enable ‘Allow Plugins’. If you are running 10.6.8 or later:
When you have installed the latest version of Flash, relaunch Safari and test.
If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then in System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser, but check this also:

Mac OS X 10.6.8 Blocked plugin message - Adobe Flash player update???

I am running on a MAC OS X 10.6.8 . After downloading successfully an adobe flash player 11.6.602.180 update for my MAC ( Safari). I now get an error message of Blocked plugin when watching MOST youtube videos. It will play some youtube videos occasionally. My system was working perfectly before this update and I am not able to trouble shoot this on my own.
Also I can use fire fox on my Mac and it plays everything perfect. The problem is with my safari browser. Please advise on this.

Can you go to Safari's help menu and select the Installed Plug-ins menu item? What version is reported under "Shockwave Flash" in the page that is displayed?

You may have to uninstall it (see Adobe's site and follow directions exactly) and then install the latest version (again, follow directions exactly).

I can't download/install Adobe Flash Player update version 11.7.700.169.

I have tried several times to download and install Adobe Flash Player update version 11.7.700.169 without success. My OS is Windows XP with SP3 and my web browser is Internet Explorer. My current Adobe Flash Player version is 11.6.602.180. In the Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player IE window I unchecked the checkbox "Yes, install Chrome as my default browser and Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer - optional" and clicked [UpdateNow]. Then I followed the installation instuctions. When I tried to run the installer I got an Internet Explorer Script Error dialog box.
I then clicked yes on the Scrippt Error dialog box and it closed. The new version did not install. I still have the old version.
What am I doing wrong?

Could be the OS X version is too old for the later recommended Flash player version.
So this is where knowing what your computer really is, and the exact OS X version running in it. There is a hardware limit to upgrading the OS X in a PowerPC Mac with a ceiling of OS X 10.5.8 at the latest. This also limits the upgrade to a later version Adobe Flash player.
If the computer is not an older PPC-based Mac, and instead has an Intel core-duo or core2duo, an upgrade to OS X 10.6.8 is possible through purchase of the retail Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD and after installation, run Software Update to get the 10.6.8 Combo update v1.1 for Snow Leopard. This will not work on a PowerPC based Mac.
Should the computer be able to run a later OS X, a newer Player could be installed.
If the ceiling as suggested above be the case, and the workaround possible.
The question posed by Klaus is a minimal request for basic info.

You should not be connecting a computer running 10.4 to the Internet.
It has not received security updates, and is vulnerable to attack through Java and Flash exploits that have been patched ... in later versions.

I can't update old Firefox 2.0 on my older Mac iBook (OSX 10.3.9), because I keep getting a mounting failure message.

I realize I need to upgrade with newer Mac/OS, but I don't have money to do so. But I'm trying to update my Firefox browser. I've tried several times with the newest Firefox update and several older versions, 3.0 and newer. But I keep running into the same error message when I try to install: mounting failed. Adobe Flash Player Update Crashes Firefox 34 on Mac OSX6.8..Suggestions?

Kind of sad. All was working well last week. Now very little is.
I have OSX6.8, Firefox 34.0.5 on iMac.
Downloaded and installed Adobe Flash Update yesterday. It appeared to install okay but Firefox hung up (whirling globe of death) on an Adobe Tab and nothing could be accessed on Firefox.
Ultimately had to uninstall Flash. Still Firefox hanging up...wouldn't reset or safe start. Ultimately had to trash Firefox app. and drag over an earlier version (19) from a back-up drive and let Firefox update itself overnight.
Today I installed an earlier version of Flash 11.5.502 from an old saved installer.
Firefox and tabs now open, but there are still many problems with accessing common websites, logging in, commenting, and watching videos.
Anyone have any suggestions? Can Adobe/Firefox get together on this problem??
I am stuck on OSX6.8 due to regular and necessary use of Rosetta. I really liked the way everything worked prior to this latest Flash Update nonsense.

Thanks for getting back. Yes, as I mentioned, I did uninstall all other Flash Players and restarted because I had read about that tip. I also tried downloading it from the .pkg and no luck there. Also from Safari instead of from Firefox. Is this Flash Player 10.3.183.7 a stand-alone plug in or is it an update to one I should already have? Also, what is the Flash Player Debugger for. I am a mac OS 10.6.8, intel based. Any other suggestions are appreciated.

I attempted to install the FlashPlayer 11 update today and the installer crashes during the installation. I am using Mac OS X 10.8.5 and Safari 6.0.5. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall a fresh installation of FlashPlayer but with the same end result the installer crashes just a few percentage points into the install process.

Admittedly you know a lot about computers, but it seems you are using that AGAINST people. I openly admitted I'm a "stupid user," but you seem to want to PUNISH "stupid users" (I'm the top user in a company of 800 people, but by no means as good as you--I just mention that because it should be obvious to you that most people AREN'T as knowledgeable about computers as you are. Should we all just stop using computers? Would you like us all to never use YouTube again because we made a stupid mistake?) Since YouTube stopped working after I and hundreds of others installed the Flash update, the Adobe forum was a logical place to go first.
And yes, I know that not everybody has TimeMachine, but most Mac users do, and egon1984 and I gave them something to work with. For a couple of days, there was nothing. Users without Time Machine can of course reinstall the OS as another way to get mach_kernel back. Or maybe they can get it from another machine with the same OS.
I suggest zen meditation to settle yourself down a bit.

Keep getting "General Install Error" when installing Flash Player 13 on Mac OSX 10.9.3

For about 2 weeks now I've been getting software update notifications for Adobe Flash, Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat X. Every time I run the update install I get an error that will not allow it finish. For Flash specifically that error says "General Install Error". I've uninstalled all of these programs to try to correct this error, now they are unable to be reinstalled due to this error. Please help!

To confirm, did you actually terminate the Safari process, or simply close the Safari windows? If you closed just the browser window, the Safari process was not terminated. Please refer to How do I quit Safari (or another browser/app) in OS X.
