Mac os/z 10.6 for ibook G4

hello,
Pl see the link below:-http://www.apple.co.in/store/software/macBoxSet_retail.html
it says the OS can be installed on an ibook G4 (887 Mhz or higher). Is this snow leopard or leopard? I know that 10.6 is snow leopard and not available for PPC -so this is somewhat misleading.
Pl confirm if this box set can be installed on an iboook with 1.333 Ghz.
thanks
-kamal

There seems to be a typo error in the third line of the text at the top. It says Mac OS X v 10.6 Leopard, but it should say Mac OS X v 10.5.6 Leopard

  • IBooks 1.0 (or later) for Mac OS X 10.5.8 (iBook g4 ppc)

I have an old iBook G4 (12 inches) running mac os x 10.5.8; and I wanna read some e-books from my iTunes library, someone can help me?

Did you acquire the iTunes library content through use of an intel-based Mac running OS X 10.6.x or later? If so they probably won't work. But I could be wrong. At least you don't want a Yes or No answer...
The iTunes player in a PPC G4 iBook computer may not be new enough for ibook branded e-books from the iTunes Store online library source directly; those acquired by an intel-mac with later OS X probably won't work.
There are limits on what G4/G5 computers that run in Leopard 10.5.8, and there are minimum system requirements in effect over the Apps store, that say you can't even get content from there unless you have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installed, so that means an 'intel-architecture' later model Mac that isn't a PowerPC.
A few other readers may still be available, but other branded ones won't generally work with others ebooks.
There are Support pages directly about iTunes questions, specifications, and answers; in addition, the iBooks discussions area may (or not) give additional exposure to this iBooks 1.0 question. The hardware and software of an iBook G4 portable with 10.5.8 Leopard installed is rather obsolete in the ibook apps era.
Are any of your ebooks from 3 to 5 years ago? With an obsolete setup, even that could be a stretch. And then there was a 'kindle reader' for older OS X versions on PPC hardware. Perhaps someone clever has some unorthodox ideas on making the ebooks speak from the depths of modern obsoletism or in holiday tongues.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Anyone have a spare microphone cable for ibook G3 12 inch

Anyone have a spare microphone cable for ibook G3 12 inch? I pulled the wire from the connector when replacing my logic board.

Don't have a spare one lying around, but We Love Macs has a new one for sale:

PowerBook Tech parts out non-working iBooks. Although the microphone cable isn't a part he lists, Daniel may have one available for not much money if you e-mail him at the address listed on his home page.
    Good luck.

  • Need guidance for ePubs for iBooks

I'm a professional formatter and have converted files to ePubs for several years. Now some of my clients want to upload directly to iBooks with an Author account. Since I'm a PC person I don't work with MACs although I myself have an Apple account (I have an iPad and iPhone). Lately several clients have gotten stopped at the upload because Apple says that the file they are trying to upload has spaces (that's the way my conversion software saves ePubs). So my question, should I be sending my clients special ePub files for iBooks with new space-less file names? It's not a problem, I just need to know to do this. All of my ePubs are validated through IDPF.

I found this at p. 46 of the iBookstore asset guide:
"All characters in the URIs must be valid with non-alphanumeric characters properly encoded (e.g., space should be encoded as '%20'). This problem most often surfaces in URIs in the NCX files and is due to spaces included in filenames. "
Via an account at iTunes Connect, you can normally get all the various guides produced by Apple regarding books (BookProoferUserGuide, iBookstore - Publisher User Guide, iTunesConnect_Publisher UserGuide)

  • Other ways to authenticate for iBooks account withouten creditcard?

I Was writing a mini ebook for iBooks. I spended very much time in it, but when i clicked publish, it promted me to make an ibooks account, and sayed it required a credit card. Are there other ways to authenticate? Or can i do requests/suggestions/feedback? Thank you for reading and hopefully answering. More details coming. Typed with my iPod touch 4.

I suggest that you start all over again, using Setup Assistant after restoring the new iMac to factory original conditions, & migrate only the user account(s) you want to keep on it from any older Macs you have.
There are several good reasons Setup/Migration Assistant will not do what you want:
    1. It is undesirable for privacy & security reasons -- there would be no point in having separate user accounts protected by passwords if someone could use the utility simply to copy whatever they wanted from another user's account into their own. As far as the computer is concerned, each user account is a separate entity, entitled to the same level of privacy & security.
    2. Each user account has its own user preferences, application settings, & so on. There can be several thousand of these items for each user account. There is no way to merge them into one user account, so at best an account merge function would tediously have to ask which of these you wanted retained & which ones you wanted discarded on an item by item basis.
    3. Many popular apps (among them Mail, iTunes, iPhoto, & many browsers) save user data in application-specific master files or databases rather than in individual files. Again, there can be only one of these (at a time) for each user. (For example, while iTunes stores song files individually, user ratings, notes, & other user-specific items are stored in iTunes database files, one per user.) Since each application that does this has its own unique methods & formats, Setup/Migration Assistant would have to know about all of them to somehow merge them into one user account's master or database files, assuming that would even be possible to do without conflicts.
The tips Pondini provided are the best you can do.

  • HT201209 Can I use iTunes gift cards for iBooks?

Can I use iTunes gift cards for iBooks?  How?

Yes, I've used them to buy from the ibookstore, app store, iTunes and the Mac App Store. They can be used in the ibookstore in the iBooks app (or via your computer's iTunes) in the same way as you use your account's balance to buy music or apps - so you first need to redeem a gift card so that it gets added to your account, and you can then buy things from the stores with it.

What is the default OS for iBook and iBook G4?

You can check the specs of ALL iBook models (G3 + G4) at everymac.com

If your iBook has a processor less than 867MHz it won't be able to run
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, though methods exist to allow it unofficially.
Old first model colors iBook G3 (not white dualUSB) have other limits.

  • AppleCare for iBook

I realize that this is not directly an iBook question, but I could not find a topic for AppleCare for iBook...
What EXACTLY does the AppleCare warranty cover? I have another 340sum days left, and today I had a little incident. I had my iBook in my laptop backpack, and when I went to swing it onto my shoulder, the shoulder strap broke, making the laptop fall 6 feet onto the ground. I opened it up, found the Combo drive door stuck, and the iBook no longer boots <Floppy w/ ?>. I have tried booting while holding option, but it does not give me selections other than the HD icon. I am in dismay! Lost all my purchased Lost and Desperate Housewives shows and my schoolwork! I just need to know if my AppleCare warranty will cover accidental drops, or if it is broad enough to blanket that subject?

No. AppleCare does not cover "accident or abuse."
Rachel R has written a great FAQ on Is phone support and warranty service free?, which you may want to check out.
Download the PDF's on AppleCare from this page.

  • Very simple fix for ibook backlight 30 or 90 degree blackout

My ibook G3 backlight goes off when I open it beyond 30 degrees which makes it hard to work on it to type with a half open ibook. After reading all the posts, i understood that the problem is in the hinge related to the cable.
So what I do is, I firmly press on the right side ( the side where the CD drive and power cable connection), with my right thumb and forefinger (just next to the power button, thumb on the speaker output and the index finger on the rubber foot) while carefully opening the ibook with my left hand all the while holding the side very firmly. Now the back light stays on all the way to 90 degrees. If I push it far beyond 90 degrees the back light goes off but I am happy now beacuse with 90 degrees open it is very comfortable to type than at 30 degrees. I don't think I will send it for repair if this continues to work at this angle.
    I hope this information helps.

    ibook G3   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   ibook G3 700 bought in 2001

    Hi, Steven. to Apple Discussions.
Thanks for posting your solution. This may not be helpful to everyone because it's possible that others' cables are pinched in a different place than yours is.
I'm glad that you've found a solution for your own problem, though, and there are certain to be a few other people out there who will benefit from your discovery, too.

  • Headphone compatibility for ibook?

I need to buy a pair of headphones to listen to music on my ibook G4. Are all headphones compatible with ipods also compatible with the ibook? If not, what compatibility parameters do I need to know about? Does anyone have recommendations for ibook-compatible headphones sold through the Apple store?
    Thanks for your help.

Are all headphones compatible with ipods also compatible with the ibook?
Both the iPod and iBook have standard headphone jacks that will work with standard headphones.

I've had MS Office:mac 2011 on my imac for around 18 months now.  Outlook has just disappeared and when I find the file and open it it tells me that there is a problem and I may need to re-install it.  I've just done this using the installation disc which, then said the installation had been successful.
Outlook is still not working.  Can anyone please advise me on what to do next.

Remove MS Office 2011 completely (here are instructions) and reinstall it.
It's not a simple or fast process but it is important to follow all of the steps in order to get all the files that Office scatters around. This will not affect your data files, only MS Office and its preferences.
