Mac OS9 Driver for Sony Handycam DVD-DCR100

I recently purchased an iMAC and want to start making movies with my Sony Handycam (USB device, no firewire). The apple support team directed me to the Sony support site to get a driver. Sony wanted me to pay for the driver and did not indicate if the driver was for Mac OS or not. I'm stuck. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I would appreciate it.

I purchased a Sony Handycam Camcorder (DCR-SR82) and have a MacBook. I had recorded several videos and was anxious to transfer them on to my computer and then burn DVDs. I opened the camera box to find that the software provided with the Sony Handycam is for PCs only---there is no Mac installation disk. So, I began doing research and with some major help from a Mac genius, was able to get it all ironed out. My mission is to spread the word so that no one feels the need to return their Sony Handycam just because they are Mac owners! The first step is to make sure that the processor on your Mac is Intel, as I believe that is one of the requirements for all of this to work. Second is to buy iLife '08, which is around $80. Next, you can import your videos into iMovie without any difficulty and enjoy all of the editing features that iMovie provides. Once you have imported your movies, you can open iDVD and burn DVDs without difficulty. If you have an external DVD burner, which I do, you need to download one program which is free and is called Patchburn. This program will enable iDVD to recognize an external DVD burner. Then, you are all set to enjoy your Sony Handycam + all of the joy of editing movies with your Mac. Have fun!

    Thanks,

Will a Mac play back video from a Sony Handycam DVD-R? 60 Min - 2.8 GB DVD?
If the Mac supports that format. If it's a standard video DVD except for its physical dimensions, yes.

Mini disks can be inserted into a drive with a carrier tray safely. If put into a slot-loading drive, they may get stuck.

  • How do I get a small (Sony handycam) DVD out? from my iMac

In order to see if the iMac would import Sony Handycam DVD (small size) I put in such a small DVD... it's still there, it not recognized, and it will not come out. What can I do?
    /Lars

This happened to a family members macbookpro. A mini-cd inserted, couldn't be mounted or ejected by the drive.
I cut a rectangle from a cereal box about two inches wide and 6 inches long. About an inch and half from one end in the middle I cut a notch and bent it down a little.

I then inserted it slowly into the drive notch down and slowly pulled out. I did this few times and caught the mini-cd and removed it. The drive has worked flawlessly for several years
A few days after this happened I was in BestBuy and an Apple rep was there displaying new Apple products. I asked him about it and he said they have a tool that vacuums it out.

  • Sony Handycam DVD camera

    Seasons Greetings to everyone
I received a Sony Handycam DVD camcorder today. It is very nice (from what I can see - it's my first) but I don't see a way to download the data on the disc to my iBook for use in iDVD. It uses the mini-discs and I know I can't use them in my computer. I thought there would be a USB cord to attach between the two devices (like I have for my digital camera) but there isn't one.
I really want to be able to use the editing features of iDVD. Do I need to get a new camera, a new cord or am I just missing something!!??!!
    Thanks - and goodnight!

    Hi Aunt Kack:
That is a nice camera, but it is not the camera you want if you are using iDVD or iMovie.
You will need to convert your footage into a format that the Mac can use.
    Using Mpeg (DVD) footage

    some helpful tools:
    MPEG StreamClip:

    Apple MPEG2 PlayBack Component:

So, really, I would try to return it and get a DV camera that uses a firewire.

  • Getting video from Sony Handycam DVD 403

    Hello everyone.
I'm hoping somebody has experience getting video from a Sony Handycam DVD 403 into iMovie6. I'm having troubles getting what I expect to happen to actually happen.
I hooked up my Handycam to my PowerBook which the OS recognized as a DVD recorder. The disc I had in the camera at the time had about 20 minutes of video stored in a unfinalized state. Finder showed an empty folder.
I tried entering iMovie and seeing if there were any tools in there that would help me but I couldn't find any. Nothing I did would show me the various clips that made up the 20 minutes of footage.
I was ultimately able to get the video in a round-a-bout way by Finalizing the disc, extracing the resulting VOB from DVD, converting it to mpeg4 with VideoLAN, and then adding it to my clips in iMovie. However, this has two aspects I don't really care for:
    1) It took a couple of hours to do this. (I wasn't paying attention the whole time, but definately more than 90 minutes and less than 180 minutes).
    2) It made one large mpeg4 file. I would rather have had multiple smaller files that were originally on my camcorder.
Does anyone have any tips or links to help me get the video straight off of the camcorder and into iMovie without resorting to VideoLAN and mpeg splitters (I haven't tried any mpeg splitters yet, but I'm guessing that is what I need to do to get my video clips into reasonable sizes).

    Thank you for the reply.
This makes me sad, of course. When I bought the camcorder 6 months ago I had know real idea what I'd be using it for... just knew I wanted to record family gatherings, etc and have a DVD to watch when I was done. If I had planned ahead a bit more I would have got advice from the message boards first.
Until I can find somebody willing to buy this device from me I guess I will have to make do with the long way around.

  • How to transfer a Sony handycam dvd footage to mac?

    Hey Folks,
My friend from Florida just sent me a DVD of some footage he would like me to edit - now I thought he actually sent me a DVD but it ended up being a small mini dvd disk for a Sony HandyCam. Now Im left with figuring it out how can I get this into my mac - it's very small I don't want to insert it into the DVD drive incase it screws it up. So let me know what to do here is a snapshot of the DVD i got so you can see what i mean. I put my hand in the image to show you how small the DVD is and hoping someone on here would know what to do it's the size of my palm (and I big person or anything).

    my best,
    Joey Dee

I've had to do this a couple of times. The first time I did it the convoluted way. Still have an old G4 with a tray-loading DVD drive. So I put the DVD in that. Copied the Video_TS file to my current computer (17"MBP) where the application DVDXDV resides and used that to convert to QuickTime DV-NTSC or DV-PAL in your case, since I don't like working with MP4 in Final Cut.
The last time I did this, I simply put the miniDVD in my $25 Cyberhome DVD player, ran S-video and RCA audio cables to my DSR-11 as a thru device and did Capture Now while playing back the DVD. I used DV-NTSC coded again in FCP and the quality was actually very good.
If I had to do it again, I'd do it the second way, with a consumer DVD player and setting some kind of analog to digital transfer.
P.S. The first time, before resorting to the old G4, I had the miniDVD jammed inside my 17" PowerBook for an hour before I managed to get it out...not recommended.

  • Transferring VOB files ex Sony Handycam DVD

    OK it's my turn.
I bought the newer model HD Sony Handycam- you know, the one that likes mini 8cm. DVD discs. Great camera- when I learn how to use it properly.
The BIG problem is- how do I transfer the VOB files on the 8cm. DVD disks to iMovie ??? APPLE, in their wisdom, don't allow dubbing of VOB files- illegally copying of commercial DVDs.
I have use SnapzProX to get around this- with limited success. I lose High Definition as I can't get a high bitrate HD requires. When I try, I get stuttering and intermittent sound loss if I try to GRAB at full picture size- "slow" eMac ?
PS can somebody try this method on a "super" dual Mac ?
Well, I have tried MOST of the utilities that convert VOB and VIDEO_TS to some QT file- all either give unacceptable "streaking" and/or video-sound not synchronised! So dimiss ExportToQT,Handbrake. MPEG Streamclip and even VLC (plays excellently, impossible to SAVE QT file) and a few others that I gave up months ago !

  • Printer driver for sony dpp-fp90

Searching for a sony dpp-fp90 photoprinter driver for iMac (leopard 10.5.1). Printer is recognised but no proper driver is available.

Well I've googled and yahooed but there's nothing as far as a driver to connect the printer to the mac..
But I came up with a quick fix that you guys can try instead...
Assuming you have all your photos in a nice library on iPhoto, do the deal of cleaning and dressing them up in the usual fashion..
Now, take a blank CF or SD or Memory Stick Pro and connect it to your mac... Simply select the photos you want to print in iPhoto '08 and drag them to the memory card.. The originals will remain in iPhoto so you don't have to freak out about loosing them.
Now eject and remove the memory card, insert it in the Sony printer and you can then print them out just fine..
Not exactly the most time efficient way of doing things.. but at least you can print them out and not have to kiss Sony's butt waiting for a special driver.

  • Sequence settings for Sony HandyCam video

I'm working with video shot on a Sony Handycam HDR-CX550.  I had no problem importing it into iMovie and then to FCP, however I can't figure out what sequence settings I should use.  It appears to be 16x9, but shows up as 4x3 in my FCP bin.  Also, the sequence settings I've tried all require rendering every time I make an edit, which obviously becomes a huge pain.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

My understanding is that IMovie works with DV streams (files with a .dv extension).  You need to convert these to DV quicktimes (with a .mov extensions).  Use Compressor (which comes with fcp) to do this.  There is an apple preset for this format.

No reason to assume they are locked. The library will be restored to the location it was backed up from, unless you specified somewhere else. Have you looked in your Pictures Folder?
