Mac OSX 10.5.8 Leopard & HP Photosmart 3180

I have a HP photosmart 3180 and recently upgraded to 10.5.8 "still leopard". I recently looked to install this printer again on network, so I went to hp site and downloaded latest driver (marked 10.4, 10.5) downloaded and installed. Hooked printer up and everything seemed to work fine, until I tried to restart. Upon restart the MOUSE FREEZES and the Apple bluetooth app launched looking for my mouse?? The mouse freezes in upper screen. I tried a different usb connection, nothing? I tried to restart again, zapping pram, nothing? starting to get anxious (computer is less than year old & printer is only three years old) unplugged all usb devices and restarted again.....ok everything works again...plugged in printer ok....restart same problem. So now I have narrowed it down to the printer which for all intent and purpose is still brand new, maybe printed about 50 pages in all.
Since I narrowed it down to be an HP issue, I called HP support. First they wanted $35 because my printer is TOO old for phone support, out of warranty. Was given an option to use chat support by operator. I tried Chat support and was told they do not offer chat support for Apple? (I was sent there by their operator that knew I was running Mac OSX) I was then offered email support, still waiting. During my conversation with HP representative I was basically told that they no longer support that model (because it's 3 YEARS OLD!) I could pay and upgrade to another printer. When asked about the HP policy and driver/hardware support for printers more than 3 years old, I was told " since they release so many new printers, they do not offer full support for hardware more than 3 years out."
Have I lost my faith in Apple? NO it just reaffirmed that non-apple products and support are crap.
They will not help you unless you pay another $35....in which case I was told again this is only "best we can do" help and will not guarantee that they can get things to work. Way to stand by your product, HP !!
So, I will never by another HP product again as they refuse to stand by their own hardware past 3 years!, by their own admission. I can use the printer as long as I unplug it when not in use. lol

  • TA48312 How can I download Mac OSX 10.6 snow leopard

    Hi ,
I use to Mac OS X v10.5.8 but I want to update to my MacBook and I need to Mac OSX v10.6 snow leopard... ???

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Mac OS X Snow Leopard is not free. It can be purchased in a DVD at the Apple Online Store > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Before upgrading, make a backup of your files onto an external drive with Time Machine. After upgrading, open  > Software Update to install Mac OS X 10.6.8, so you will be able to install iTunes 11.1.4.
If you want to upgrade to OS X Mavericks, see > http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade

  • Will Mac OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard work for a windows Computer....???

hi. i am wondering if i could buy MAC OSX 10.6 SNOW LEOPARD and put it into my windows Computer and erase windows and put MAC on it? i just bought an. HP Pavilion Slimline about 1-2 weeks ago. and it has. AMD Athlon II X2. With NVIDIA Graphics With Cuda.... Will it work??? please let em know....

Snow Leopard requires an Apple Macintosh with an Intel CPU. I doubt that even with extensive, license-breaking hacks you could get it to run on an AMD CPU.

  • Mac OSX 10.5.7 Leopard can not detect webcam

    Hello Support,
I am using Mac OSX 10.5.7 Leopard in Safari and FireFox however Flash Player v 9 and 10 does not detect my isight webcam (firewire). I can not even change my settings to choose a webcam because the image that I get when I go to the settings is just a screenshot but not interactive. I have attached the picture.
Does Flash player work in Mac OSX 10.5.7 Leopard Safari and FireFox? I get as far as the allow or deny button, then I get a error message saying that my cam is not detected.
    Can you please advise.
    Thanks in advance

    with this hack:

exposè is much MORE fluid so it is a driver problem (because with tiger there's no problem!!)

  • Mac OSX 10.5.3 Leopard STANDARD Server CHANGEIP questions

I am confused on how to check and change TCP/IP addresses via Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.3 server in STANDARD mode.
I watched the great Sean Colins Lynda.com tutorial on OSX 10.5 Server, but i still have a few questions with how to deal with DNSs and CHANGE IP
Here is the hardware & scenario:
-- G5 Silver Doors Tower with 1.7GB Ram and Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard 10 user server
-- Cablevision ISP with there BOOST service [that allows you to set-up a server and does not block ports 25 or 80]
-- NO Static IP from Cablevison [they change it once in a blue moon when they want so I rely on DYNDNS below]
-- Apple Airport TimeCapsule [with all latest firmware updates etc]
-- DynDNS account and client software installed on server to update the DYNDNS severs with the current Cablevisions TCP/IP address
    Problem and Question
    ===
Three times a year I will need to move this server. 1/3rd of year and at setup it is on residential Cablevision Account and Apple TimeCapsule Router, Then 2/3 of year server will be behind two funky large networks where I will have to set-up manual IP, DNS, and proxy info
I need to know what the proper process is when I want to move the Mac. When the 10.5.3 STANDARD Server is in STANDARD mode can I just change the TCP/IP address in SYSTEM PREFERENCES...NETWORK ? Do I have to run the CHANGEIP command Afterwards [or Before]
Also, for DNS config on server does it always need to have the loop back self reference [127.0.0.1] or can it just be configed from the Airport and/or network?
And, big problem for now... dumbly when I set-up the OSX Server on the TimeCapsule Network I forgot to write down the TCP/IP address used. Now I am on the second funky corporate network and can't use the command:
    sudo changeip - idon't_knowip 10.0.96.48 server.cmtenyoffice.com server.cmtenyoffice.com
Also, another question for the HOSTNAME... should it be HOSTNAME or FullyQuallifiedDomainName?
My HOSTNAME seems to be "CMTE-Server.local" but I specified the FullyQualifiedDomainName to "sever.cmtenyoffice.com"
NOTE: I do NOT have this domain registered and am not yet hosting a website or email server on this machine, but I may soon register the domain and then point MX records etc to the DYNDNS record that would point to server
    Anyhow, to wrap up,
1- What is the proper process for changing the TCP IP address with a Leopard 10.5.3 STANDARD SERVER?
2- What do I do with CHANGEIP command if I don't know what the STARTING TCP/IP address is?
3- For HOSTNAME should I be entering the unregistered FQDN or the "CMTE-Server.local"
Thanks for any an all info.

-- Professional Poet & BED VLOGGER

    Hi Eric
You use the one its using now.
If the Server is Standalone issue:
sudo changeip - oldIP newIP oldhostname newhostname
Even if nothing changes you can still issue the command, supply the system admin name and password and let it do its stuff. Prior to doing this you must change the address in the Network Preferences Pane. Although not necessary it does not hurt if you restart afterwards.
If the Server is an OD Master issue:
sudo changeip /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 oldIP newIP oldhostname newhostname
You will not only be prompted for the system admin name and password but also for the Directory Administrator name and password. With both command you will get feedback as to what is going on. Obviously you will see more changes made if its an LDAP Server. Hostname will be the fully qualifed domain name (FQDN) defined in the DNS Service eg: myserver.mydomain.com.
    man changeip
For usage. Actually prior to doing any of this and incidentally a good way of finding out not only the hostname but also the IP address associated with that name issue:
    sudo changeip -checkhostname
You should run this before/after making the change. If everything checks out OK it should report 'the names match, there is nothing to change'. This is a good a test that lets you know its worked. However its not the only test. I would run host, nslookup and dig also. Next set a client to use the Server for its DNS and then test connectivity with firstly the Server's fqdn and lastly its IP Address.
Ultimately the truest test is: "what impact has the change made on clients accessing the Server and its Services successfully?"
If the Server is a mature OD Master (possibly PDC as well) with DNS, Mail, AFP, SMB, iCal and any other 2-3 additional services configured and running then issuing changeip may appear - superficially - to have worked. Occsasionally - in my experience - serious problems begin to develop with the LDAP database to the extent where the only 'cure' is to demote to Standalone, sorting out DNS and re-promoting. This can have serious repercussions if you have not made preparations to limit the re-build time prior to changing the IP address and issuing the command. Equally it can be successful. However can you take the risk?

  • Dreamweaver 8 install on Mac OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard

    Hi all,
I have just done a fresh install of Mac OSx Snow Leopard (10.6) and am trying to install our copy of Dreamweaver 8 onto it. However I have now run into a few problems. Firstly it came up with an error message stating that some old format is no longer supported or something. I cant get the error message back up now, as now the CD will not mount within OSx!
Can anyone assist with this? Thanks.

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
OS 10.6 Snow Leopard is once again available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:

  • Mac OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) and D110 PhotoSmart Scanner not working together

My HP Scanning Software for my D110 PhotoSmart printer stopped working with the upgrade on my IMac from 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) to 10.9 (Mavericks).  Help!  I don't want to have to use something like VueScan and abandon HP.  I really need to be able to save scanned documents to disk, and right now my scanner won't let me save scanned pages.

    Hello all,
I see that you are having issues scanning in MAC OX 10.9. The problem is that there are no drivers available for the D110 for Mavericks at the moment. The first link below will bring you to another page in the forums that will show you an alternate way of scanning.
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-and-Copying/Problems-scanning-with-HP-printer-and-Maver...
This second link will take you to the download page for your printer. Keep checking back there to see if there are drivers available. There are still newer printers then yours that don't have drivers, so you will have to be patient.

  • Lightroom - print module not working on mac osx 10.5.1  (leopard)

When I switch to print module in light room comes up as error when changing modules but every every other module seems to work fine.

Jao, I tried it but no luck. As John recommended, I also uninstalled Lightroom, deleted the preference file as well as the print templates per your suggestion and reinstalled the latest Lightroom 1.3.1. Still no luck with using the left panel in the Library module.
One thing I just noticed was that if I open a very small catalog of ~200 images, everything appears to work fine. It looks like a problem with working with my 12,000 image catalog which always worked well before I upgraded my iMac to OS X Leopard. By the way, I've got the preferences setup to always check the integrity of the catalog at the start of every session. Everything is supposedly good.
Anyhow, thoughts and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I hate the thought of reimporting all my images and losing all my metadata in the process. Thanks.

  • Does my mac osx 10.4.5 leopard have 2.0 usb hubs or 1.1 usb hubs??

    Hello,
Are all of the usb hubs on my new imac 2.0? I just purchased an audio interface for recording music and it will not allow multiple tracks to be recorded simultaneously if the hubs are 1.1. I need to know if I should return this interface and get a firewire. thanks for any help on this (I tried to find the answer myself by clicking on "about this mac" but nothing there about whether the hubs are 1.1 or 2.0... thanks again

Hi billyw: Assuming that your information about your system is correct in your signature, it will be USB 2.0 All iMacs since Sept. 2003 have used USB 2.0 If you are using an external USB hub, that is a different story.

  • Installing LEGO NXT-G 1.1 or 2.0 on mac OSX 10.6

Hello LabView,  I recently did a fresh install of Mac OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard
Since then i'm unable to install the LEGO Mindstorms NXT-G 1.1 software (by LabView)
It appears that the same is true for the latest version of NXT-G 2.0
In both cases, a dialog box state that installation was successfull yet the application folder only has an Engine folder and couple other files but no App ICON
Any idea if a 10.6 patch is underway to install either NXT-G sofware on my mac?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I want to clear up any confusion of what software and versions referred to in this thread.  There is no version 2.9 for both LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT and the LabVIEW Toolkit for MINDSTORMS NXT.  The versions and supported operating systems are summarized bellow (Mac OS = 10.4 and newer; Windows = XP, Vista):
LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT 1.0 (1.1) - Supported on Mac OS and Windows
LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT 2.0  - Supported on Mac OS and Windows
LabVIEW Toolkit for MINDSTORMS NXT 1.0 and 1.0.1 patch
LabVIEW 7.1 - Supported on Mac OS and Windows
LabVIEW 8.0 - Supported on Mac OS and Windows
LabVIEW 8.2 - Supported on Mac OS and Windows
LabVIEW 8.5 - Supported on Mac OS only
LabVIEW Toolkit for MINDSTORMS NXT 2.0
LabVIEW 7.1.1 - Supported on Windows only
LabVIEW 8.5.1 - Supported on Windows only
LabVIEW 8.6.1 - Supported on Windows only
LabVIEW LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Module 2009 (Releases in October) LabVIEW 2009 - Supported on Mac OS and Windows
NXT-G blocks can only be created with LabVIEW 7.1.   LabVIEW 7.1 may work on Mac OS 10.6, but since LabVIEW 7.1 was developed well before Snow Leopard NI cannot guarantee it will function correctly.  The LabVIEW NXT Module 2009 does not support support the creation of NXT-G blocks.
To install LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT 1.1 on Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Copy all files from the MINDSTORMS CD to a folder on your desktop.
Open that folder and look under "Parts".
    Locate MindstormsUnivEdu.pkg or MindstormsUnivRet.pkg.
Right-click (control-click) and choose "Show Package Contents".
Navigate into the Contents » Resources directory and delete the "preflight" file.
Close this package and run the meta-package (LEGOMindstormsEngRet.mpkg) from the desktop to install MINDSTORMS NXT.
To install LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT 2.0 on Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Copy all files from the MINDSTORMS CD to a folder on your desktop.
Open that folder and look under "Parts".
    Locate MindstormsUnivEdu.pkg or MindstormsUnivRet.pkg.
Right-click (control-click) and choose "Show Package Contents".
Navigate into the Contents/Resources directory and delete the "preflight" file.

To install LabVIEW Toolkit for MINDSTORMS NXT 1.0 and 1.0.1 patch on Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
    Follow normal installation procedure
To install LabVIEW LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Module 2009 on Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
    Follow normal installation procedure
Please let us know if these address all of your questions.

    <Edited by Host>

That is only half the answer. What does it say the OS version is?
FWIW, build 10A380 is not listed either at Mac OS X: About This Mac "build" information or at Mac OS X versions (builds) included with Intel-based Macs, & is lower than the lowest Snow Leopard build number that appears in either reference.
This means that it is most likely a pre-release developer build, which cannot be upgraded at all, & that you have no licensing rights to use past its expiration date anyway. If this is so & you want to run Snow Leopard legally, buy a retail copy.
