Mac OSX 10.6.2 messed up audio on FCP
I was just working in Final Cut Pro when a "software update" message came up. Mac OSX 10.6.2. I stopped working and updated. When I restarted and went back into FCP, my audio is ALL MESSED UP! Every clip that is played has an echo to it...the echo is slightly slower than the original audio. No matter what I do, the echo remains. I noticed that after restarting the computer after the update, my system audio settings had been messed with.
Can anyone help?

#44: FCP acting weird - Trash Prefs
Shane's Stock Answer #44: FCP acting weird or unusual. Just not like is normally should
If the program was working fine, and now isn't, or just isn't working the way it should, the first things to do are:
1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm
http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/trashing_fcpprefs.html
2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
3) Shut down for 10 min. Go for a quick walk around the block and get SOME exercise today. Come back, turn on the computer and see how things are.
4) (optional) Do the Hokey Pokey and turn your self about. Results may vary.

Mac OSX 10.8.5 with M-Audio ProjectMix I/O
I recently purchased an M-Audio Project Mixer from eBay to record acoustic drums. I am using a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.8.5...only to discover that the PM is not compatible with OSX 10.8.5. I've researched for the latest driver uploads and firmware to no success. Please, someone tell me that with all this technology in todays world that there is a solution to make these two work. I refuse to believe that I just waisted all that money on this machine and cannot get the work I need done. Every post I've read thus far are saying that that the ProjectMix will not work with any Mac OS past 10.7.4. This may very well be true, I just find it hard to believe that no one can come up with a way to make it work. But if not, I guess I'll have to take this one on the chin and be done with anything M-Audio forever!!! Very disappointing.
This link may help: http://community.m-audio.com/m-audio/topics/m_audio_project_mix_i_o_driver_for_m ountain_lion
I haven't tried it myself, but I do plan to in the near future, as I dont want to shell out major bucks for a new control surface/interface. -
Getting inputs on Digi 002 to be seen by Mac OSX Core Audio
My question revolves around getting step-by-step intructions for getting inputs to be recognized by Digi Core Audio. Microphone is not recognized when plugged into Digi 002. Working with a Digi 002, MidiMan 4x4, and Mac OSX Lion and using Logic Pro9. Can someone please tell me why computer is seeing the Digi 002 but is not seeing the microphone (inputs)? Do I need to set something up differently in the Mac Core Audio? Or did the PACE extensions I downloaded for userlok, or whatever that's called, mess up
the audio/MIDI configs?

How to reinstall audio drivers on Mac OSX 10.5.8?
On Mac OSX 10.5.8 i have a problem with not working sound. It does work on turning on my Mac, but it does not work in system. When I put F11-F12 it's grey and permamently mute. I ve tried everything, but nothing helps...
From options, which should I choose:
1. Install Linux on another disc?
2. Come back from 10.5.8 to 10.5.7 (sound works)? - and how to do it?
3. something else? no other ideas...
Mac has been bought at polish Allegro (something like e-bay) without CD with system, so I cannot reinstall system totally...Sorry, it's for 64 bit IntelMacs only...

I have a 3 year old MacBook Pro with MAC OSX 10.6.8, iPhoto ’09 version 8.1.2 and have downloaded two software programs: one is Aperture 3.2 and the other is Photoshop Elements 9 (which I got from a friend who didn’t need it).
I am totally happy with the way iPhoto organizes my photos and how I can work with iMovie to create slide shows with music from iTunes, etc.
I have been shooting mostly high resolution jpegs and I continue to learn more and more about photography, post processing etc. I realize that the small adjustments I can make in iPhoto are good, and are adequate most of the time. However, a have started to experiment with shooting RAW images and would like to go the next step, ie. post processing.I am totally technically challenged and need SIMPLE, INTUITIVE programs and am certainly NOT anywhere ready for Photoshop CS whatever!
After having these programs sit on my computer, I decided to try to see if I could figure them out. When I opened Aperture, this is what first comes up.
“Welcome to Aperture 3.2
Your library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of Aperture. Once upgraded, you will not be able to use this library with previous versions of Aperture.
Upgrading a library from previous versions of Aperture 3 generally takes a few minutes or less, though larger libraries will take longer. After that, Aperture 3.2 will upgrade your library's thumbnails, but you can use the application during that time.
Tip: To open a different library, quit Aperture and hold the Option key down while starting Aperture
Current Library Location:
Jadzia (home) -----Pictures------Aperture Library
QUIT UPGRADE”
I have heard horror stories about moving your entire library to Aperture, ending up with 2 libraries, etc. etc. hence my previous reluctance in attempting Aperture. In addition, many of my photography friends are saying: Go with Lightroom 3.....you’ll love it!
So here is my dilemma. I don’t want to mess around with my iPhoto library. All I want to be able to do, is to isolate a few photos, export them to Aperture, Elements, and work on them there, then bring them back into iPhoto.
Can I do this? Should I forget about Aperture and Elements and look at purchasing yet another program like Lightroom?Export those few photos via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = Original to the Desktop. Then import them into the Aperture library. That would keep one copy in your iPhoto library and another in your Aperture library to edit, etc.
You can use Photoshop Elements 9 from within iPhoto as your editor of choice. However, if you edit a raw file in iPhoto with PSE9 the resulting edited version must be saved outside the iPhoto Library and imported back in as a new file. For editing jpegs just do a Save (not a Save As) and it all will be kept within iPhoto.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always. In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note: to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

Using a network-stored catalog with Mac OSX
Greetings all.
I am using Photoshop Elements 11 on Mac OSX Mountain Lion and want to store my catalog on a local network drive (FreeNAS). I have encountered many problems while attempting to do this. Then I noticed in the Elements Organizer help, under the section "Repair a catalog", the following: "Note: (Mac OS) You cannot access catalogs present on a network drive."
Is this true. or has someone found a workaround to the problem?
Thanks!
--JohnThanks, for that ( I assume we have to carry on in English due to forum policy even though we are both of German tongue I assume)
You mean the access problems are part of the "no network drive" thing? I suspected that. Took me a whole day in front of my computer to realign the mess. So should one better not use the network drives at all? Quite a pity in times where everybody seems to use network storage.
No, I did not use organizer to use the photos. So there is no way to reconnect them? Should I delete the catalogue and start with the photos from scratch?
Regards
Andibuch

Well, yes, these are part of the "no network drive" thing.
As for moving the photos, did you use organizer to move them? You will always have trouble if you move photos outside of organizer, even on the same drive--you have to let it manage your photos or it doesn't have a clue as to what happened.

Adobe Premiere CC 2014, regularly licensed (Mac Pro early 2008, Mac OSX 10.9.5, Graphic Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB).
Hi guys,
since the CC2014 version of Premiere has been released (on Creative Cloud) I'm experiencing - really often - the MEDIA PENDING (yellow background) issue... even if the clip can be found right clicking and selecting "reveal in finder" or "reveal in project", in the timeline the clip can't be played. Not to mention the many many problems the app is causing stopping working suddenly and obligating me to restart the system to have it regularly working again (usually it stops reproducing the video, only the audio stays alive, but the playhead seems freezes there where I left it).
One more problem: all the app (and customized) keyboard shortcuts are gone. Totally disappeared (this happened just after the last update, CC v8.1 Caravan. Synching from CC was unsuccessful.
Please don't suggest me to contact the adobe italian service to have an help... the last time (almost the same problem) they just made me lose time with some basic procedure checks that I knew were not leading me anywhere.
I ask sorry for my polemic tone, it's a few months that Adobe Premiere is not working anymore as before. And you can't immagine how many hours I've lost.
Thank you very much,
My best regards,

Also, a 512 MB VRAM GPU is really underpowered
Guys, would you suggest me a new graphic card (in case, which model on this Mac - would be great a 4 or 6 MB VRAM GPU) or a new Mac Pro? This is still a great machine, but it's starting becoming unusable due to this Premiere issue (that is day by day more severe).
Thanks a lot for any suggestion,
Stefano. -
How do you know what version Mac OSX is on ANOTHER drive?
How do you know what version Mac OSX is on ANOTHER drive without starting that drive
and seeing the system profiler? In fact, because the drive wont start up, Now I am wondering if it is pre-intel. ? CMD-I doesn't do it. ThanksWhy mess with this? Well, I got the HDDs and the enclosure from my previous PPC, so I'd like to make use of it all without $pending again.
I don't see any problems with using the card and drives on your new Mac. Hardware is too pricey to just leave behind if you can't help it. With the new drivers I suspect you'll be able to use your drives, I just don't think you'll be able to boot from them if the interface card requires drivers. They should still be very fast storage devices, and probably reliable due to the ongoing support the vendor has provided.
I went through the same type of issue when I bought my Dual G4 1.42 Tower (upgraded from a Quadra 840AV ). Several of my devices were SCSI (I was into SCSI Wide/Fast drive arrays at the time for video capture), and I was able to use an Adaptec card for scanning for several years with Jaguar and Panther. I'd spent quite a bit of cash to ensure high quality and performance and didn't want to loose all of the investment. Eventually the SATA hard drives and other USB and Firewire replacements became so cheap and performance improved enough that loosing SCSI with Tiger was not a big deal. I do think I should get about 5 years of hardware compatibility with most products and I keep older Mac's around for dedicated services as long as they aren't a costly maintenance issue. -
Mac OSX Yosemite crashes alot with random tasks in Photoshop CC2014
\Mac OSX Yosemite crashes all the time with random tasks in Photoshop CC. Now almost nothing works. Sometimes it stops working after doing random tasks like starting photoshop and i have to do a hard reset by putting the power off of my Mac pro retina (2014). After logging in again i got the message from Photoshop that graphics problem occurred sometimes a Problem report appears. I also cannot merge to HDR from lightroom to photoshop & also in Photoshop in the file menu > automate merge to HDR pro. It 8 of 10 times it stops working and I won't select one of the brackets. I have to force quit photoshop. I think these instability problems started after updating to Yosemite but become worser everyday. I also disabled the graphics driver, put it on basic and enabled/disabled open gl, sometimes photoshop disables it automaticly. My osx is up to date so I don't have to update my graphic driver because these updates or done within the OSX update panel.@

Is it possible to downgrade to Mac OSX 10.4.6?
I've just purchased a new Macbook and am expecting it to arrive next week. I assume at this stage that it will ship with Mac OSX 10.4.7 installed.
My problem is that a particular audio interface which I use for recording is not supported under 10.4.7, and no one is sure when this company will release a compatible driver.
Am I able to downgrade the Macbook to 10.4.6? Will this have any adverse consequences?
Macbook (White) 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo, 2 GB RAMActually, the version of Mac OS that ships with a particular model doesn't usually change right away when a new OS update ships. For example, the last model iBook G4s started shipping with 10.4.2 and that didn't change until after 10.4.4 was released. The iBooks never shipped with 10.4.6 even though it was available when they were discontinued.
Apple spends a bit of time putting the "image" of software that gets installed on each model computer and there's a long process to change it (including giving a new master to the factories). I haven't seen anyone here, yet, say that their MacBook shipped with 10.4.7 installed. I would guess they won't change the default image until 10.4.8 or later is released.
In general, you cannot install an earlier version of Mac OS X than what shipped with your computer. There is no retail version of Mac OS X 10.4.x for Intel available, since it's shipping with all the Intel-based Macs. The Mac OS X installer that comes with each type of computer is model-specific. For example, the Mac OS X 10.4.6 installer that comes with a MacBook Pro will NOT install on a MacBook or an iMac. Here's a couple of Knowledge Base Articles that may contain some pertinent information:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25497
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25784
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303315
The last article lists 10.4.6 as the version that ships with MacBooks and the list has been updated since 10.4.7 came out.

HP "another program has control of the device" Scanning Issue on Mac OSX 10.8.5
I am running an HP C7200 series all-in-one on a Mac OSX 10.8.5 system. Everything has worked fine for years. Suddenly when I got to fax using HP Scan I get the following message: The scan cannot be performed because another program has control of the HP imaging device. This may be the result of a recent Mac update, but I'm not sure. I have tried many solutions from forums, including: restarting the program, restarting the printer while holding down the OK and Help keys, and installing RC Default Apps 2.1 and disabling the bundle extension preference. I have not yet uninstalled and reinstalled my HP software because I'm afraid something else will get messed up.
Also, I can scan by doing the following tedious chore. Open up the Systems Preferences, click on Print & Fax, click on Scan, Click on Open Scanner, click on Show Details, then fill in the scanning details. It's a pain compared to opening up HP Scan and clicking on scan. I can also scan via Image Capture but it also doesn't offer some of the nice features of HP Scan.
Any other solutions?Hello NgnRoom,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with not being able to fax.
As you stated , this could be caused by a Mac update.
I suggest that we do an uninstall of the software and drivers and then while the unit is uninstalled, we then reset the printing system. Here is a link on How to reset the printing system. Once the reset is complete, I also suggest we Repair disk permissions.
The next step would be to reinstall the printer on to the Mac. Here is the link for the HP Print Drivers v3.0 for OS X.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
Thanks for your time.

Can't install windows to mac osx partition!
Hi, I had 2 partitions in my macbook pro, 1 for mac osx and 1 for bootcamp, and I wanted to install mac osx to a firewire hard drive, but i messed it up and installed mac osx OVER the bootcamp partition.
Now I have 2 mac osx partitions on the macbook pro, and can't reformat the partition to reinstall bootcamp.
Is there a way to reformat that partition and reinstall bootcamp (windows)?
Thanks in advance! That is why backup should be #1 and last.
You have to return (ie, reformat) your drive probably back to one partition with just Mac OS before you can use Boot Camp Assistant.
While at it, just clone one of your Mac OS volumes over to FW now. Later, with Windows installed, make an image of that (WinClone) while in Mac OS to your FW drive also. -
1. Cd wont eject, tried everything. 2 Item is being used by Mac osx.
Just before my cd refused to eject I ended up with two folders that have what I would call a biohazard logo on them (Three evenly parted triangles with all the points in the center). The cd that's stuck can be ejected from the desktop n finder, but won't dislodge from computer. So the computer thinks I keep putting it back in. There's another file with the same name as the cd in the tray. That item is apparently being used by Mac osx, and I can't do anything with it. This is all quite bizarre. Everything else works like lightning (downloads, apps, uploads etc.)
