Mac OSX 10.6.8 Brother Printer

I have a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.6.8 and I cannot connect to the Brother MFC 7860DW printer at work. I have installed the driver but when I click add printer the Brother printer does not appear.

See Linc Davis's advice here.   Obviously just exchange the Epson information for Brother information within that piece of advice.

Not sure which driver you mean when you say "the driver in the Mac's list". Apple does not provide a driver for this device, so if you mean one of the default printers that are included with 10.6, like the Generic Postscript or Generic PCL, then these will only work if the optional PS or PCL print kits were installed in the machine. Given your inability to print then it would seem that you have neither kit installed. So this would require you to install the Canon UFR2 driver, which you can obtain via this link.
With the UFR2 driver installed, you add the printer using IP > LPD. Enter the IP address of the iRC2380, leave the Queue name blank and change the Name to iRC2380. Leave the Location field blank and in the Print Using menu, browse to the "Canon iR C2380/2550 UFR II (UK)". Click OK and then Add to complete the queue creation. You should now be able to print. Please reply if it does not work.

  • Since OSX 10.10.3 Brother printer is no longer found

    Hi,
after updating OSX and then deleting all printers in system settings (had a problem with an Epson scanner/printer combo... different story but similar...) I'm trying to add my Brother printer again. But it is not found, it won't appear in the list. This seems to be a problem with OSX, because using the Brother Admin Tool (BRAdminLight) I can print a test page -  so technically a connection exists (over network). I also updated the printer firmware with the tool from Brother, but it didn't change anything.
    What can I do?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Select
              /var/log ▹ cups ▹ error_log
from the hierarchical list on the left side of the Console window. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages, if any, from the time of the last failed attempt to add the printer. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

  • Mac osx 10.8.1 update printer driver not available

We are getting a message asking to update the printer (HP Laserjet 1320).  If we accept it searches for the update and returns the message "...unavailable".
OK, so how do stop that message window from popping up?

Normally I do not shut down my iMac - rather I just let it sleep as per System Preferences > Energy Saver settings.   This morning I did a complete shut down and then restarted and the problem has gone away again.  Then I did a bunch of testing by launching all the usual applications I might have run since updating to 10.8.2 to see if one of these triggers the problem.  After each new application launch I turned on the printer to see if the problem would occur (and then shut down the printer before the next application launch.)   So far I haven't found what triggers this but once triggered it seems to then occur with each printer start (until I shut down the iMac again I guess.)  I will have to keep a close watch on what I launch for a while to see what I have missed.

  • How can I download a driver for a Brother printer HL2270DW for Mac OSX 10.9.1?

I recently purchased a Brother printer HL2270DW and am running Mac OSX 10.9.1.  The brother website has a download available, but in the process of adding the printer I get the error message that "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."  Any ideas?

Just found a solution which involves resetting the printer settings:
    To Reset the Printer Setting:
    1) Open "System Preferences"
    2) Select the "Print & Scan" pane
    3) Right click (or control click) anywhere in the "Printers" window (in the white space below any of your existing printers)
    4) Select "Reset Printing System..."
That will reset the printing settings, and should happen immediately. You'll know if it worked because any existing printers you had previously set up will disappear from your printers list. Once the system has been reset, click on the "Add printer" button and add the printer that you're trying to add.
As any other printers you had previously added are deleted you'll have to add them again.
    Hope that helps

  • How can I download a driver for a Brother printer DCP-J411ODW for Mac OSX 10.9.1?

How can I download a driver for a Brother printer DCP-J411ODW for Mac OSX 10.9.1? I go to the right place on the Brother website and instead of downloading a driver it says there is a problem. Also something I did download and stuff on the CD provided with the printer is for a PC not a MAc. Help please.

OK, connecting a Wi-Fi printer is a 2 step process.
    Connect printer to your network
Have computer to "see" printer on the network.
Follow Apple's steps for connecting a Wi-Fi printer in Printing in OS X. Read the article in it's entirety before installing.

After installing Mac OSX Snow Leopart 10.6.3 my HP Photosmart C5500 won't scan to computer.  The printer is working. What do I have to do to be able to scan again?

Often, you have to download updated vendor software drivers when you switch operating systems. HP doesn't list a C5500 on their web site, however, here's the link to the OS X 10.6 C5540 software.  If you have one of the other C55xx models, look for the updated driver/scan software on their software/driver download section of HP.Com.

  • How do I get my Canon MX860 back online so I can print wirelessly on my Mac OSX 10.8.4?

I recently installed a new and bigger Time Capsule on my MacBook Pro system and since doing so, I lost the ability to print wirelessly on my Canon MX860 printer.  I am using Mountain Lion OSX 10-8-4.
I note Pahu discussion in another group on this same issue but it pertains to Snow Leopard.  I don't know how much difference it makes but when I followed his instructions, I did not get my problems resolved.  I am inserting here his discussion and in bold my comments where my results differed.
Pahu comments follow (min results in bold):  Some of the new models of Canon inkjet let you set the network settings using the touch panel on the printer. I am not sure if your MX860 has this setting, called Easy Setup under Device Settings > Network. If it does then you can change the network settings and create a new print queue on the Mac.
If it doesn't have the ability to change the settings via the keypad then you will have to connect the printer via USB to your Mac, which will create a USB connected print queue. If you then open Print & Fax, select this USB MX860 print queue and then press Options & Supplies, you will see the Utility tab. I DID NOT HAVE THAT TAB  I FOLLOWEED HIS LEAD USING THE FOILLOWING:  MAC HD/Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter/Utilities With this selected then click Open Printer Utility. This will open the Canon IJ Printer Utility and within this utility you will see the Network Settings button. Select this and you can then enter the new network settings, such as the SSID, type of security being used and the password for the network. Save the changes, turn off the power to the MX860 and then disconnect the USB cable.
Now turn the printer back on and open Print & Fax again. For the USB print queue you just created, you can delete this. I NEVER SAW ANY PRINT QUEUES AFTER TURNING THE PRINTER BACK ON.  ONLY THING I HAD WAS THE PRINTER LISTED IN THE WINDOW SHOWING IT WAS OFFLINE.  And for the old networked print queue, you need to delete this also. You may also need to delete the networked scanner queue if you had one. So with all the old queues to the MX860 removed you can then add the new network printer. I DID TWO THINGS, FIRST LEAVING THE PRINTER IN THE WINDOW, I TRIED ADDING USING + BUT NOTHING HAPPENED.  THEN I TRIED DELETING THE PRINTER IN THE WINDOW AND THEN TRIED HITTINH + BUT NOTHING EVER APPEARED.  HAD TO RECABLE THE PRINTER TO THE MACBOOK TO GET PRINTER BACK.  Click the + and wait for the MX860 to appear as a printer - it will appear first as a scanner and you can either add that now or after adding the printer. NONE OF THIS HAPPENED AND I LET IT SIT FOR SEVERAL MINUTES.  Several seconds after the scanner appears the printer should also appear, showing canonijnetwork in the Kind column. DID NOT HAPPEN.  Select this and the Print Using menu should automatically select the Canon MX860 series printer driver. When it does click Add to complete the network print queue creation and repeat the steps to add the network scanner if you need it.  OBVIOUSLY, NONE OF THIS HAPPENED EITHER.
NOW IT IS ME AGAIN.  Can someone please help me with this mess?  I am so frustrated with dealing with this for three days and the only way I can print is using the RSB cable which is not so cool strung across my bedfrom the computer to the printer.  Any guidance would be appreciated.  I am an old man of 73 and way over my head with this mess.  Don't know why Canon has to make this so difficult.  Thanks in advance, Ron Wikoff

I too am experiencing the same problem, my Canon MX860 printer is no longer connecting to my Airport Extreme Router. I tried following the directions on Canon's website http://www.usa.canon.com/CUSA/assets/app/pdf/wireless/router_network_change_mx34 0_mp495_mx860_mp980_mp620_mac.pdf
I have tried uninstalling all of the printer drivers, as suggested in another apple discussion, then running the Canon IJ network tool.
    I tried PAHU's response above:
Okay. No facility to add the MX860 to an Apple wireless network using the control panel so you will need to use the Canon IJ Network Tool.
So with the Mac connected to the MX860 via USB cable, open Canon IJ Network Tool (which should be located in Applications > Canon Utilities > IJ Network Tool). If you are looking in the other path you mention above, this could be an older version so download and install this latest version of the IJ Network Tool.
With the IJ Network Tool open, the first window talks about adding the printer to the network. Ensure the setting "Use the printer on the network" is set. Click OK
From the next window, the MX860 should be shown and as connected to the Mac via USB. Select it and click OK.
The next window will show the utility searching for wireless access points. A new window will then appear asking you to confirm the connection to the access point and the text will show which access point was found - which should show "Ronald Wikoff's Network". Click Yes to continue. When a window appears stating that the Canon IJ Network Tool wants to use your password, click Allow. (I cannot make it past this step. The Canon IJ Network Tool does not aoutmatically find my password. Instead I am taken to a screen where I type in my password and then attempt to connect.)
Now the window will take several seconds to setup the printer and should show a Setup Completion window. Click OK. (I never make it to this window. I receive an error message that that says the printer cannot communicate with the access point and to check the password. I checked the password then tried again. I even changed the password in the airport utility to make sure I had the correct password and it still did not work. I am starting to suspect that this may be related a recent Airport utility upgrade to 6.3.1 a few days ago.)
This will make the Add printer window appear. In the list, the "Canon MX860 series (00.00.85.xx.xx.xx)" should be visible. If it is, select it. The "Use" menu should then show "Canon MX860 series". If it does, click Add. This will add the network printer to the Mac.
If you now open Print & Scan, the "Canon MX860 series (00.00.85.xx.xx.xx)" should be in the printers list, as well as the Canon MX860 series. This latter one is for the USB connection. You could delete this printer and disconnect the USB cable.
The last step is to print a document to this network printer.
I plan on calling Canon tomorrow but if you have any other options for my to before then I am open to suggestions.

  • Is it possible to Print a PDF as a PDF in Acrobat 11.0.06 on Mac OSX 10.8.5?

Is it possible to Print a PDF as a PDF in Acrobat 11.0.06 on Mac OSX 10.8.5?
I need this functionality. Adobe PDF doesn't appear in the printer list as it did on my windows laptop. I need to be able to print to the PDF "size" of 8.5 by 11 to shrink files down for e-mail. My workflow usually goes like this:  I import all the pictures or create a PDF from multiple files (pictures), I then put them in order  and then print to PDF, two pictures to a page. I can take a 50MB file down to a 1MB file this way. Makes it easy to view on smartphones and the like.
Is this functionality still broken in Acrobat 11? Did I just waste my money? This was the only reason I bought the latest version - It wouldn't work on 9 Pro either.
    Thanks,
    Jon

Thanks Tony. That is exactly the functionality I am not getting from the current product on Mac.
You can get a much better looking result that takes up way less space and opens faster for the end user by printing a PDF as a PDF and controlling the size of the PDF image. I can take - for instance, 6 or 7  10MP pictures and create a PDF out of them. The PDF will be 25MB or so. I can print that as a PDF which will allow me to put two pictures per page  - and that file will be about 1 MB. No crappy looking images, just much smaller size and multiple images per page.
It's a workflow I have used for years on PC.  Everyone keeps saying just save it as a PDF using the Mac print "save as PDF" functionality but that doesn't accomplish the same thing and you can not control how many pages to print on to each new page of your PDF.
I find it misleading that I saw a web page on Adobe's site that shows you can print as a PDF and it says you can print as a PDF on Mac and that is NOT the case.  Print to PDF Windows 7, Vista, XP, Mac | Adobe Acrobat XI Infuriating.
I have tried to optimize a PDF with 6 or 7 images and it just doesn't do the same thing. It wont reduce the size as much as I need, cuts it in half - but not down to a small fraction for being an e-mail attachment. I'm using XI Pro. Researched this for about 3 hours and it is not functionality that can be used on a Mac.
I even tried printing as a PDF in Parallels on XP with another licensed version of Acrobat Pro and it still wont let you. You would have to probably dual boot your machine to get the functionality by running windows flat out on the Mac with a separate Licensed copy of the software.
It amazes me that Adobe can't figure this out or make amends with Apple to get the functionality back into Acrobat.

  • HP Laserjet 4 printer driver for mac osx 10.8.5

Anybody know of a mac osx 10.8.5 printer driver for a HP Laserjet 4?

Yeah, looked at this list earlier - they've got v. 19.8 for a Laserjet 4 Plus but mine is a plain Laserjet 4 so I doubt it would work. I used a Gutenprint driver v. 5.2.3 with Leopard that worked OK. Mountain Lion doesn't seem to like it as much...

    Hi Stonesp85,
Is there any error message pops out on printer front panel or on the PC?
Are you able to print out any self-test page like Product Status Report or Network configuration page ( in Setup -> Reports)?
this is just a quick test for your printer hardware.
to fully validate you printer hardware, I suggest you download "HP Hardware diagnostic Utility" in below link and run it:

  • Officejet Pro 8600 will NOT print on MAC OSX 10.7.5

    I'm using Mac OSX 10.7.5
New Officejet Pro 8600 is set-up and wireless is connected with Bonjour.  When printing the printer utility opens and shows me that the printer is connecting.  For example: "Printing Microsoft Word - Document 1".  Printing page is shown as "100% complete". However, nothing prints.
I am able to print the 'Print Self Test Page' but nothing else (ie. word documents). I have the printer setup on an HP Laptop and it is working just fine over the network.
I have tried every solution under the following link and nothing worked:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02205477

HI, I also had this same issue and finally worked out a solution.
Just to summarise: I had two Macbooks 10.7.4, iPhone, iPad, airport express and netgear evg2000 router. They all worked wirelessly one minute then stopped. I could wirelessly connect to the printer, print test pages, view the queue, view supplies but any print would appear in the queue as 100% complete or 1% or 12% but never actually print out.
I logged in to the embedded web server (ews) on the printer, went to network, advanced settings-bonjour and changed the Bonjour Highest Priority Service to '9100 printing' instead of 'LDP'. I then deleted the printer from the print function in system prefs, re added it and it worked. I had to turn the iPhone and iPad off and on and they worked.
