Mac OSX install disc freezes!!!

Hi there, well when I try to install the Mac OS X. install disc 1 it freezes when it says "preparing installation.."
what can I do to solve this problem?
help me please
liz.

I have a new iBook. My install disk 1 seemed to read ok on my my internal drive but it had a hard time reading on my external drive. Disk 2 worked fine on both. I got a replacement install disk 1 from Apple and it reads fine on both drives. You probably have a bad DVD. If you try to install with the Tiger retail install disk the trackpad and airport will not work. To get the trackpad and airport to work update it with the 10.4.3 combo update.

Using Mac OSX Install Disc 1, I am not able to get any further than the Partition tab.  It allows me to select my hard drive selection, but will not allow me to make any other selections such as options.  Does anyone know their way around this obstacle?  Am I doing anything wrong?  Thanks

Hello, The Hatter, I read about the 'trick' of backing up, erasing, and restoring too, but I figured it would take longer than defragmenting the disk.
But the defragmentation process has just finished! so I'm gonna try to run Boot Camp again soon!
    Thanks for your helpfulness, anyway.
And P.S. I didn't clone my system onto the external drive, I just inserted the Mac OS X Install CD, rebooted holding down the "C" key, and installed a fresh Snow Leopard system onto the predetermined partition. I will use that in cases of emergency, when my main/internal system becomes unusable.

  • Mac OSX install disc 1 won't work, it says "no bootable device" and a black screen

My macbook came already with snow leopard, so I have the osx install disc and the applications install disc. So I'm meant to put in the osx (ie install disc 1) install disc which lets me install bootcamp, which I do, and click on "start the windows installer" and "start installation" in bootcamp assistant, however every time I restart the computer to try installing bootcamp it just says in white letters across a black screen "no bootable device" and "insert boot disc", which I have already done!!
Am I missing something really dumb here, or is my disc faulty?

    From this guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup_10.6.pdf
Step 4: Install the Boot Camp Drivers for WindowsAfter installing Windows, install Mac-specific drivers and other software forWindows using your Mac OS X installation disc.
The Mac OS X disc installs drivers to support Mac components, including AirPort,built-in iSight camera, the Apple Remote, the trackpad on a portable Mac, and thefunction keys on an Apple keyboard.
The Mac OS X disc also installs the Boot Camp control panel for Windows and theApple Boot Camp system tray item.
To install the Boot Camp drivers:
1  Eject the Windows installation disc.
2  Insert the Mac OS X disc.
You have to be running your Windows OS (not Mac OSX) when you add the drivers from the Mac Install disk.

  • Mac OSX Install Disc

    Dear Commnunitie,

Can i use the Install Disc of the imac, how can i now if the DVD are Generic, Solo or Family Install Disc
Can i install the Mac OSX on a second machine
    Already thanks  for your reply

No, install disks are machione specific. He will have to purchase an install disk:
If you are in the US call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775, provide the Serial Number and specifications of the Mac, and for a reasonable fee, they will supply a replacement set of system discs (if available).
The discs will be for the original version of the OS that was pre-installed when the Mac was manufactured.

  • Cannot access boot from Mac OSX install Disc-frozen cursor

Twice a month I do some housekeeping and clean up my Mac--run scripts, verify preferences, repair permissions, etc. Quarterly I boot from the installation disc to renew any start up info that may have become corrupted.
My IMACG5 won't allow me to do this now. I put the disc in, and shut down the machine. I start it up again while holding down the C key but when it is finished booting from the disc my mouse cursor is frozen on the screen and I cannot acess anything. I have a battery operated mouse and I always check to make sure there is sufficient battery life.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is up and how I resolve this issue? At this point I won't be able to wipe my hard drive and re-boot everything fresh from my installaion discs because the cursor is frozen.

Hello jaqueline & Welcome to Apple discussions
I put the disc in, and shut down the machine.I start it up again while holding down the C key but when it is finished booting from the disc my mouse cursor is frozen on the screen and I cannot acess anything.
I hope you mean Restart and not Shut Down.
Insert CD, under Apple drop down menu -> restart after/ at the chime hold the c key dowm till the gear/ wheel stops spinning .

  • Can't boot from OSX Install disc.

    Hello,
I am trying to restore my iMac from a Time MAchine backup and to do that I remembered that I had to boot off of the OSX install disk and choose Disk Utility. I thought that restoring from timeMAchine would be the hard and long part, but I am having trouble booting off of the OSX disc.
1.) I popped it into my iMac and it mounts and loads. Its runs fine so I know there is nothing wrong with the disc.
2.) I restarted my iMac and held C.
3.) The grey screen appeard and then the Apple logo and then the spinning icon underneath it. But it gets stuck there and doesn't boot off of the disk.
4.) I shutdown the machine by holding the power-button and when it restarted I held D. It ran the hardware test fine and I passed the hardware test.
5.) I shut it down again, same way in four, and held option. This time I chose to boot form the Mac OS X Install DVD. It again got stuck at the Grey screen with the Apple logo and the spinning icon.
Does anyone know how to or can help me get my iMac to boot from the OSX install disc or how I can use Disc Utility to restore my iMac from TimeMachine?
Thanks in Advance & Best Regards,
    theirf.

Sorry, OE = Original Equipment - the grey discs that came with your Mac.
    SL = Snow Leopard - Mac OS X 10.6.x.
    theirf wrote:
What do OE and SL mean?
I think i understand though. You mean that any disc with a higher version of something will still work on a machine with a lower version of that thing right?
Not any disc. The only grey ones that will work are those that came with that Mac.
Any retail disc of a later OS version will work, and in most cases it would boot from an external HD with a later OS installed.
However, as Snow Leopard only came on two retail versions, 10.6.0 and 10.6.3, the choice is a bit limited.
The current retail version is available here.

  • How to install windows support software without mac OSX install cd?

I want to install windows 7 on my macbook pro 10.6.8 via bootcamp. I have a windows 7 install cd and I havn't got past the stage of installing the windows support software. I lost my mac osx install cd a long time ago so I can't install the software that way, but if i try and download the support software from bootcamp, I keep getting a notification that the windows support software is unavailable. What should I do?

Call Apple for replacement disks.  The Boot Camp drivers for OSX 10.6 and earlier were not available as a download.  Or upgrade to Lion, which you do download the Boot Camp 4 drivers.

  • Old IMAC with 10.5.6 OSX. Forgot Administrator password. Started up from OSX install disc 1 and selected password reset from utilies in Installer. But HD icon doesn't show up. (Only install disc and admin root available:no good). What can I do?

Old IMAC with 10.5.6 OSX. Forgot Administrator password (which I had already changed.) Followed instructions as per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274
Started up from the original OSX install disc 1 and selected "Password reset" from "utilies" in Installer. But HD icon doesn't show up. (Only install disc and admin root available:no good as the support website underscores: Important: Do not select "System Administrator (root)". This is actually the root user. You should not confuse it with a normal administrator account.).
    What can I do?
    Thanks for your suggestions. Antonio

Not familiar with that version of OS X but try using Terminal and type in resetpassword. If that brings up a password reset screen is your original username shown?

Is the AirPort Express a first generation?  I don't believe Mountain Lion can AirPlay to a first generation AirPort Express.
If it's not first generation, inspect it (the AirPort Express) using the current AirPort Utility from the MacBook Air.  Make sure it has the latest firmware.

  • Flash Player 9 mac osx install problem

For ages now I've been trying to install flash 9 on my mac (OSX latest version), and it doesnt work. I can download the installer, open it and run it. The installation works up until "4 items remaining" when the install bar starts showing grey and white stripes with a message above or below which says "searching macintosh hd". This goes on indefinitely, Ive tried leaving it for a while and eventually it just freezes. At the moment I have absolutely no internet video capability, not anything flash based anyway. help me please.

I have the similar problem on my iMac Intel Duo Core running OS X 10.4.9. The Installer told me that I don't have the access privileges to install Flash when the progress bar shows 1 item remaining (flashplayer.xtp). I tried repairing disk permission with Onyx and starting up from the OS X Install DVD but all these didn't help. I am using the correct installer (the Universal Binary one).

  • Using a Mac Mini install disc (10.4.6) to upgrade a Power PC G4 (10.3.9)

    Hello everyone,
I would appreciate a little advice if possible...
I am wondering if I can use the "system install discs"
(intel-based system 10.4.6) that came with my new Mac Mini,
to upgrade my older Power PC G4 currently running system 10.3.9?
I wish to have both computers running the same system.
I tried inserting the first (Mac mini system 10.4.6) install disc into my G4, and had a kernel panic...
couldn't reboot, and after many tries I had to manually eject the DVD.
Any advice and tips to lead me through this??????
    THANKS!!!!!!!!

    nipnkep,
No, you can't do it that way.
The install disks are system-specific, and Intel system disks don't work on PPC Macs.
Your software license also doesn't permit installation on multiple Macs.
You could buy the retail version of Tiger, or you could wait a few months and buy a "Family Pack" retail version of Leopard, which will allow you to install OS X on up to five Macs in the same household.

  • I need to order old Mac Mini Install discs

I hear I can order from Apple, i need a phone number.
    I have a 1.5 Gh 2005 Mac Mini

Be sure to have your product's Serial Number, & a credit card, handy.
If the unit is too old, they may not be able to provide you a disc set.
Some discs, likely for early intel-based Mac, w/ Tiger & Leopard OS X
originally, were said to be available from Apple support or applecare.
These were shown by those who got some, to be white label replace-
ment install discs, at about $16 each or so. Subject to availability.
    Good luck & happy computing!
