Mac OSX Installer Hangs During Installation

Macbook Pro 15"
Core 2 Duo 2.53Ghz
4Gb RAM
9400M
Erased Hard Disk,
Boot from CD
Mac OSX installer hangs during installation
Time remaining remains the same for >3 hours
After clicking get spinny beachball cursor.
What should I do?
Thanks.

The installer may actually not be hunging, in my installation on Win XP, I have seen it "pause" at this point for 5 min or more before continuing with the installation to a successful completion, I did not try to do anything to assist it. Try giving it more time and see what happens.
Regards,
Joseph

    Hi,
Any idea how to get another copy of Mac OSX installation disc? Mine has disappeared while moving house. My HDD is corrupted and i cannot proceed with repairs without the disc.

Phone AppleCare with your computer's serial no. and request replacements. There will be a charge for this service.

  • My MBP read DVD/CD but NOT Mac osX installation DVD (tiger or Leopard)

    Hi,
I read a lot of discussion but I didn't find the same problem.
So I have a MBP 15", 2.16Ghz intel core duo, and 2 Go RAM.
I have the 10.5.8 version installed, and I want to erase the disk and do a re-install of 10.5 because I've got some bugs :
    - my MBP starts really slowly (about 15min),
    - it bugs when I suspend the activity (black screen, nothing works... I have to push the "ON" button a longtime to stop the mac, )
    - and other ponctual bugs.
The problem is that my MBP don't read the installation DVD (leopard or even Tiger).
It reads the DVD, I heard that the DVD turns, but after 3/4 try, the MBP ejects the DVD.
But It reads Blank CD, DVD (many zone)... Only the installation DVD is not reading.
    I've already try :
-to begin in safemode (with SHIFT button => it is not ok)
    - to push "C" key" at the restart (it's not ok, the MBP eject before blue screen.. it seems that the MBP is waiting to eject the install DVD to start)
    - to create an other account (not ok)
    - to restart the V/P RAM 5 times (not ok)
So, Is there a solution ? If the Mac can read sometimes CD or movie DVD, that mean that the otpical drive isn't broken...
    I'm waiting your help
(sorry if there's some english mistakes !)

So, I've tried to start in target disc mod with a firewire.... Not lucky, I can read in the "information System" that my firewire is not recognized. It's weird because I can charge my ipod with firewire, but the target mode doesn't work !!!
    message in french :
    Bus FireWire :
Attention : Impossible de répertorier les périphériques FireWire.
(average Translate = impossible to index firewire's peripherals)
Do you have some solutions... I still not re-install MAC OSX... and I haven't an external HD (not in shop too !!)

  • Remove Mac OSX installation from external disk

    Hello,
I installed an extra max osx installation on an external disk. So i can starup from my HD or my ext disk depending on my start up disk choice. Everything works fine. Unfortunately i installed it in a partition with a lot off backup files in it, instead of creating a new partition dedicated only to the OS. I was wondering if there is a clean way of removing this installation without completely formatting the ext.disk again, so that i don't loose my data.
    Thanks

I hope you don't mind my jumping in. AFAIK, dumping the OS X files isn't a simple process because many of it's files and folders are hidden. It appears that the ext HD has more than one partition. If so, move your data to the other, then you can erase the partition, removing all of OS X's stuff. However, doing that looses your bootable backup. Details WRT to the HD, its size, number of partitions, how much used and free space, etc. should help to determine a strategy that saves the data and also provides for a bootable backup.

  • Mac Mini keeps hanging during boot

My ~3 year old Mac Mini keeps freezing during booting with the error message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button...". This happens every time. Booting in safe mode works.
This happened with Mac OS X Tiger but keeps happening even after I have completely reformatted that hard disk and reinstalled Leopard from scratch. There are no external devices connected to the computer besides the monitor and a bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
After reading some discussion forums I have already tried starting into Open Bootware and running "reset-nvram" and "reset-all" but to no avail.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
What you are suffering is a Kernel Panic, and given you have reformatted your drive and reinstalled MacOS, it would tend to suggest the issue is hardware related - most common culprit being RAM.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106227 explains what kernel panics are, and http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html and http://www.index-site.com/kernelpanic.html may give some assistance in working through the problem to determine the cause.
The one good thing is that your system appears sufficiently stable to allow you to boot to the Leopard installer and complete a full install. This makes it less likely there is a fundamental issue with the most expensive component of the system, the logic board.

  • Installing Mac OSX Server hangs at Network Configuration

    Hi there!
I am installing my new Mac OSX Server (SNow Leopard) straight forward the assistant.
    Asking for Language: OK
    Asking for Country: OK
    Keyboard Layout: OK
    Entering License: OK
    Configuring Network:
    Ethernet: Static
    Airport: OFF
    FireWire: OFF
Clicking on Forward to continue: The assistant keeps telling me "configuring network". Nothing happens. It is doing that for hours now.
I tried to connect with Server Admin tool: OK works.
The network is up and running, but the assistant is not continuing.
    Any ideas?
Thanks for any help or suggestion

Smells vaguely of a DNS error or IP routing or a network connectivity problem.
What did you specify for your network settings, and particularly what was entered for the DNS server address? If you're not running DNS on your local network here, then enter no DNS servers as part of the prompting, and let Mac OS X Server establish its own default single-host DNS.
(You're not going to be able to use your ISP DNS here; those ISP DNS servers are not valid when you are establishing a server on a network behind a NAT gateway.)
I'd probably wipe the disk and boot from DVD and reload.

  • Mac Mini server hangs during periods of heavy outbound traffic

I first noticed this last night, when trying to set up Time Machine backups.
The backups will run for around 30 minutes on average, and then the Mini will go into a state where the mouse still works and most commands work, but no network-related things will work: the machine won't respond to pings; Networks preferences will hang when you try to open it; Server Manager will hang when you open it, and so forth.
This occurs regardless of whether I am using gigabit ethernet or wireless ethernet.
I swore it was Time Machine's fault, so last night I made sure it was turned off, and the machine was completely stable again in the morning so I thought things were okay.
But just now, I was watching a video over the network from a shared directory on the Mini, and it acted up in exactly the same way as before, and this happened twice in a row when watching two separate videos.
Interestingly, it seems to be okay to copy large amounts of data to the Mini, as over the past week I have copied around 1.5TB of data to the Drobo attached to it with no problems at all. It just seems like copying any amount of data away from the system dooms it to have a crash.
But there was a 10.6.2 update at some point during all of this, and I'm not confident that it wasn't the update which caused the problem.
Is anyone familiar with these symptoms? What can be done?

It's running Server (I cross-posted to the server forum after being advised to.) There is a gigabit switch on the way to a Billionton 7504VGO router/modem. The problem itself is separate from Internet connectivity though, as the computer becomes inaccessible from the local network when it occurs.
I think I am narrowing in on the problem though, as it seems to reproducibly occur on some files and not others. On the Time Machine side of things, if I exclude my home directory then it seems to work even for the initial backup which takes ages. On the sharing side of things, there are video files which crash it reliably and then others which don't. Interestingly it seems to be the newer files which work more reliably, which makes me think it's something about the files which were transferred to the Mac when the data was first brought over from the previous machine I was using.

  • Mac OSX just hangs/freezes, HELP!

    Hello,
My DP 2.0ghz G5, keeps hanging/freezing, meaning I can't move the cursor, it won't respond, the music in the background just skips. I've already ran disk utility which gave the message that it had an invalid leaf record count (should be 0 instead of 527), which it could not fix. I've also ran hardware tests and everything seems okay. I've also narrowed it down to when it hangs. Whenever I have anytype of music or sound, it hangs almost immediately. Does anyone know what this could be?

It sounds like a directory problem. If you format and reinstall it'll almost certianly be repaired. That's just an absolute step for me. If you erase the drive it will erase the corrupt directory. Really DiskWarrior can probably fix it. It's the one utility I wouldn't live without,,,,it's that good. DW has saved my bacon many times.

  • How do you retrieve a Hard Drive on a mac OSX?

ok, here goes recently my Mac OSX froze so i immediately turned it off , so when i turned it back on the loading screen had a file with a Question mark on it, then i went to my room to get my Mac OSX installer Disc and i put in disc one and waited for it to load, when i started to install it and agreed to the terms it said select a destination Volume to install The Mac OSX Software but their was nothing to click for the destination and i have no idea what to do, for the past couple of days i have been utilizing my PS3 to use the internet which is also what i am using right now.
So can some one please help me out and tell me what to do i cant take it to Micro where i bought it because my warrentee has expired
    please help me

It appears this particular Mac system has a hardware problem. The disk, the I/O controller (depending on the particular Mac box) or motherboard are the obvious candidates. Particularly given the installer and Disk Utility are not offering up any disks to work with.
You're now faced with the costs of having a repair service run some diagnostics, and/or swapping the drive or related component, up to replacing the particular Mac system.
Some Mac boxes are easier to swap drives than others. Depending on your familiarity with working on computers, you might first remove the drive out of the system and into a USB enclosure or such (about US$30 at various vendors), and see if the disk works over there. (If you're not comfortable or familiar with working inside a computer system, this might not the best time to learn. Accordingly, you might want to enlist a local Apple dealer or an Apple store.)
And how current are your backups? If they're not current, how much is your data worth? And if they're not current, don't re-install or otherwise damage your disk contents until you're sure you're ready to clobber your data.

  • Cannot install Mac OSX Snow Leopard on Macbook Pro Unibody with a new SSD

Hi, I just bought a SSD (OCZ Vertex LE 120GB) to replace the stock SATA HDD. The problem is that the Mac OSX installation fails. I tried a lot of times with no success. Both clean install from DVD or restoration from a Time Machine backup fails.
The problem doesn't happen if I put the same SSD into a PC to install a Linux or Windows. I've read something saying the problem to be at EFI 1.7, SATA bus and even SATA cable in the Macbook Pro. Can anyone help in this issue?

    IgorOzz wrote:
Hi OrangeMarlin, thanks for answering and trying to help me in this issue. Well, The SDD is well formated by Disk Utility and GUID partition as well. I tried to clone my HDD to the SDD by using the Disk Utility RESTORE option. By doing this I could boot up from SDD but somethings didn't work well (iPhone crashed at every start), Finder sometimes, and other apps...
Maybe the disk utility restore option isn't the best way to do that. I'm gonna try the following steps:
    - Carbon Copy to clone my HDD to SDD;
    - Update SDD FW to the last one (but I need to install it on a Windows machine first);
    - Downgrade EFI FW back to 1.6 (not sure if I'll proceed to this step).
I was thinking about SATA bus and cables because I've read some issues pinpointing to this as the culprit, since the Macbook's SATA wouldn't be able to handle 3Gbps SATA II speeds.
Now, a little question: Why you say to be not recommended to install the new drive internally? What if, after using the SSD or HDD for a while and the system crashes I need to reinstall Mac OSX? I think it's supposed to be installed from the scratch by the DVD installer. Isn't it?
Again, thanks... and waiting more replies...
Do one step at a time, and I highly recommend not "downgrading" the EFI. The unintended consequences might make you throw your MBP out the window.
Yes, use Carbon Copy Clone. Then try to boot from the cloned drive. Hold Option at startup, and it will give you a choice.
If it works, then put it in your MBP. If it doesn't boot, then go to step two, repeat clone, and try again.
My 2010 MBP runs at 3Gbps. I think prior to the 2010 models, Apple had not qualified any drives, other than the ones they put in the MBP's, that could work with 3Gbps drives. You may have one that doesn't.

It installs logic pro but at the end it gives me an installation error. Someone stole my mac osx cd at school so im unable to reinstall or repair osx. In the disk utility it doesnt let me repair my disk. Some help would be much appreciated.

Shut down and reboot holding the Command + S keys. Allow the black screen with white text to fully load, then type fsck -yf and hit return. Wait until you see "Disk has been modified" or "Disk appears to be okay" then type reboot and hit return.

  • Creative Cloud Desktop App installer crash (Mac OSX)

I wanted to update my existing CC Desktop App, but that didn't work out, so I uninstalled it, and tried to reinstall. But that brought me into a whole other world of pain and tears.
Basically, when I finally worked out where I could download the .dmg (hint: if you try to download the desktop app installer through chrome on mac, you'll get the .exe), and I ran the installer, and just says this: "Downloading Creative Cloud Desktop App" and then promptly crashes, leaving no trails behind. I cleaned my mac from old logs and whatnot, did not work. I ran Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, that just deleted all my existing CC programs so I can't even work with those anymore, but the cleaner provided nothing to let the Desktop app installer actually work.
I have a Mid 2012 Macbook Pro "13, Mac OSX 10.9.5, 2.5 GHz i5, 8GB RAM. I've had virtually no problems with Creative Cloud, except After Effects 2014, which could never complete an update.
I suspect I need some kind of "offline" installer for the Desktop app.

SkyOtic if you are being offered an exe by Chrome then I would recommend reviewing your web browser settings and add-ons.  It appears that Chrome is currently identifying your computer as utilizing a Windows operating system.
Please download and install the Creative Cloud Desktop application from Creative Cloud Help | Creative Cloud for desktop.  I would strongly you recommend the use of a different web browser unless you have corrected the behavior occurring within Chrome.
If you continue to face difficulties then I would recommend reviewing Error "Failed to Install" Creative Cloud Desktop application - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/failed-install-creative-cloud-desktop.html.
