You cannot use Lion until you have upgraded to 10.6.8:
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
You received a coupon you can use and redeem on the App Store to download Lion. There is no App Store in Leopard.

  • OSx Lion for Canada

I recently bought my Mac so I am eligible for the free download of OSx Lion. The link given to download the OSx Lion for free requires a state of America but I live in Canada. Where do I go to download it in Canada?

  • How to buy mountain lion for more than 1 Mac

    Hi All,
I want to upgrade the system for more than 10 users from snow leopard & lion, how to use one apple ID to apply a batch license for mountain lion upgrading?
Is there anyway that I can get a solution?
    Jack,

I'm unclear on what you're talking about, because you keep on talking about users and clients... how many actual machines need the software? Note that the number of users on a particular machine is unimportant. There is no limitation on that based on the licensing.
To get volume licenses for Mac OS X for business use, see:

  • OSX Lion for Imac and macbook

Is it possible to install OSX Lion also on my macbook after installing it on my iMac? I bought a license and wonder if it's also possible to install it on my laptop as well...
    THNX!

Yes, you can pay for it once and legally install it on other Macs that are registered to you.
When you download it the installer is placed in your Applications folder - make a copy of it or copy it across to your other machine before running the installer because once you successfully run the installer it deletes itself. It'll save you having to download it again.
When you install it on the second machine you may be prompted to log-in to your Mac App Store account, but you won't have to pay a second time.

  • Is it possible to re-download OSX Lion for free from previous purchase

My husband downloaded OSX Lion but did not save it onto disk, we have 3 mac books at home. Can he re-download without paying again. Thanks

It would be easier to download it on one of the other Macs when logged into the same store Account.
There is a workaround to download it to the Mac upon which the original purchase was made- in the Purchased pane, Option - click on the OS X Lion app name to the left of the INSTALLED button. It takes you to the Lion description page with the Install button now available. Make sure he saves a copy of this before starting the install.
There are other tricks you can do with this downloaded installer, a search on "Lion installer USB drive" will give you many suggestions of what you can do with it.
    Best wishes. Joel.

  • CAN'T "SIGN IN" TO OSX LION FOR COMPUTER RESET

I'm trying to reset my Macbook Pro to its factory settings. I have already erased the disk and all that is left is "reinstalling Lion"; (when I purchased this mac, however, it was with Leopard). Anyways, I need to sign in with an Apple ID that has purchased Lion, and I have apparently not "purchased" it with my apple ID. What do I do? There is no other option other than Mountain Lion and I don't know where to buy it / update it (for what should be free?) / or at least "sign in" to Leopard.

Instead of reinstalling Lion per se, what you need to do is use OS X Recovery to restore OS X.
Instructions here >  About OS X Recovery
Basically all you need to do is startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to accces the built in utilities to restore your Mac.
That will reinsstall Lion for you.

  • OSX Lion for new iMac

    Thinking about a new iMac.
When OSX Lion is out (July?) won't it be pre-installed on iMacs from that point on?
The last iMac I bought was Oct 2007--Snow Leopard I think, or maybe it was Leopard.  Disaster.
I vowed NEVER to get the latest OS @ the time it comes out.

Expect the next OS in July. If you want a computer without it, you'd best hurry. But honestly, I would hope to get the newest OS in any case. If you  expect to take advantage of iCould, as an example, you'll need Lion.
If you buy a computer within 30 days prior to Lion's release, you should receive an offer to upgrade for free that will be valid for 30 days thereafter.
Apple is rumored to be holding at least one new model of laptop until Lion is out so as to maximize the hardware capabilities and showcase the new OS.

  • OSX Lion for icloud on olde mac

I have an older mac, that cannot take Mountain Lion, but since I never installed Lion, I cannot sych my desktop calendar with icloud.  Is there anyway that I can upgrade the software osx on my mac to be able to access icloud?

If you're in the US, it's been reported that if you call the Apple online store at 1-800-MY-APPLE, that they should have Lion available to sell from the legacy products list. This would be Lion on the USB memory stick for $69 (as I recall the price).

  • How can I retrieve and reinstall OSX Lion for Mac Mini

I inadvertently deleted my OSX 10 Lion operating system on my Mac Mini -- tried redownloading it but continually received an automated response saying something like ".... unable to download the software, try again later"   That is not an exact quote  but close.  I tried several times to download the software but always received the same message.  I did verify that WIFI was up and working properly on my separate laptop.   Would like help in rebuilding my Mac Mini Operating system.

If your Mini is the "Mac mini (Mid 2010)" you quoted in your question, that would make it a Macmini4,1.
These Minis shipped running some variant of OS X 10.6 and should have included OS on DVD.
You may find it difficult to get back to 10.8 if you didn't save a copy of the downloadable installer.
If you boot holding down the <Option> key, do you see a Recovery partition? If so, is it for 10.8?
    Inquiring minds want to know!

  • Why must I purchase OSX Lion for my Macbook?

I have an elderly MacBook that runs quite happily but wants to use Mobile Me. I also have a new iPad and iPhone bothe with OS 5.1 and which want to use iCloud. So how do I get to sync my MacBook with my other devices without having to buy a new OS for it??

iCloud needs Lion; there's no way around it.
It gets worse - an elderly MacBook may not run Lion well, if it all. This is just Apple dragging us into the future yet again, whether we like it or not.
You may wish to consider buying Lion until you can afford a new Mac, which will have it already. In the meantime download all your iDisk contents from Mobile Me because it is going away as of June 30:

Your @me.com email will still work no matter what.

  • Reinstalling OSX Lion for sale

    Hi,
I'm cleaning up a MB Pro for sale. It's from March 2011 and has Apple care for another 18 months. I can't remember if it had Lion or Mountain Lion as its original OSX.
The problem is; I've deleted the partition in disk utility but when I come to reinstall a fresh copy of OSX it tells me to reinstall Mountain Lion and it asks for my Apple ID to get the copy - if I do this, won't the machine then have an ID linked to mine? I just don't know how to proceed so help would be most welcome.

Revert the machine back to Snow Leopard using these instructions and your install disks that came with the machine or call Apple with your serial/model identifier to reorder new ones. The 10.6 retail disk will NOT work for your model.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
Make sure the ENTIRE internal drive is selected (drive makers name and size) at the top, and use the Erase with Security Option > Zero All Data or else someone can grab your deleted files using software.
All partitions on the drive will be erased, including RecoveryHD, EFI, MacintoshHD and BootCamp, so make sure your sure you have plenty of backups, do NOT only trust TimeMachine.
When OS X is done installing, it will reboot to the Welcome Video, press and hold the power button down to force a hardware shutdown, it will remain in that state for the new owner.

  • Does Moc OSX Lion use more battery than Snow Leopard?

Ever since I have updated my MBP Early 2011 (2.2 Ghz Radeon 6750) to Lion, my battery life has gone down tremendously. I used to be able to get a solid 7 hours in (light workload ei. web browsing) and now I'm only able to get 3.5 hours MAX. I'm currently running 10.7.2 and the problem is still there. I have gone through around 200 cycles so it's not like 1000's of cycles or anything. Is this just me or are other people exeriencing the same problems? I plan on going back to snow leopard soon if there is no fix to this.

I have had my MBP since July 2011, and am at 22 cycles.
You must run soley on battery charge, almost never plugged in.
Are you running your battery very much down (10%-20%) before re-charge , or recharging at about 40%?
Running Lithium-Ion batteries almost dead create a "memory" that can make your MBP unchargeable.
