Mac OSX Lion on a Retina MacBook Pro (2014)

Hi,
I need to install Mac OSX Lion on a Retina MacBook Pro (2014) on a second partition. I have the installer for Lion and everything, but I'm not sure if it will work on such a new mac. Any experiences?
Thanks
Marco.

It won't work. You can't install an older version than the Mac shipped with.

  • OSX 8.2 new Retina Macbook Pro won't wake from sleep.

Since upgrade to OSX 8.2 new Retina Macbook Pro won't wake from sleep. Tablet lights are on in morning and fans running like crazy, but it requires hard quit and start. Tried with no apps running, no change. It was fine before this last update. Wasn't the recent firmware update supposed to fix this issue? It seems to have started one for me.

I have the exact same problem with my Macbook Pro OS 10.8.4. What happens is: I work on the train, press cmd/alt + eject to put to sleep..pop it in my bag...get home or office... open the lid...and nothing! Battery indicator shows I have plenty of juice but it will not wake up no matter what key I press.
The only difference between use on the train and home/office is the plugging in of peripherals and mains power. It happens sparadicially, perhaps once or twice a week and I always send a 'panic report', so somewhere there will be approx 20 reports of this fault at Apple.

  • I have Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4, Quickbooks Pro 2010, Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac, Operating in Windows 7.  Are there any recommendations for running Quickbooks Pro 2010?

I have Mac OSX Lion 10.7.4, Quickbooks Pro 2010, Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac, Operating in Windows 7.  Quicbooks Pro 2010 is not responding or opening currently. Quickbooks does not support Parallels anymore.  I hear Apple Bootcamp is an opton.  Are there any recommendations for running Quickbooks Pro 2010 on Mac?

QuickBooks Pro 2010 for Mac is not supported in Lion. QB Pro 2011 will work, but I just got an email today that 2011 will not be updated to work in Mountain Lion. QB Pro 2012 will be updated for ML.
Be aware that the Mac version of QuickBooks is shamefully lacking in features compared to the Windows version. I do use the Mac version, but it has more features than I need for a small business, so it doesn't affect me. No one knows why Intuit seems to hate Mac users, but they show it every day.
If QB Pro 2012 for Mac can be downloaded as a demo, I would strongly suggest testing with it before making a final decision. You will be able to import the Windows data, but possibly not all of it, depending on the Windows version features you use.
Boot Camp allows you to install Windows on its own, bootable partition. When you boot to it, you are of course running Windows in every sense of the word. Just on Mac hardware rather than typical PC gear. Your Windows version of QB will work there without issue. The problem is having to boot back and forth between Windows and OS X, depending on what software it is you need to use at the time.

  • Wobbly keys on 13" Retina MacBook Pro (2014)?

    Hi there!
Is there anyone out there who bought himself a 13" Retina MacBook Pro in the last two months and who is experiencing the same problem with the keyboard like I do?
I feel that nearly every key on my device is very wobbly (see here http://youtu.be/2Rz4XCkl3Wc). I checked every exhibited MacBook (all produced in July 2014) in our local Apple Store this morning and those keys felt extremely strong compared to mine. I asked a Genius and Technician about it but they declined that Apple changed anything on the keyboards.
Now I am wondering: is this normal? Are you experiencing the same?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi!
I haven't decided yet. Thing is I got from work via our official computer distributor and I really don't know if they would replace it because of "wobbly keys"
And Apple won't replace it, because I haven't bought it directly from Apple... It would be helpful if this was a widespread problem so that I could point our distributor to an e.g. article about this problem...

  • Osx Lion memory leak: my MacBook pro is usable only 10 minutes after boot

    Hi all,
10 minutes after boot it works just fine, but then it slows down and take centuries to open any application. Checked with Activity monitor:
on a boot, no user applications running: Free memory: 2,35 Gb, Wired: 459,7 Mb, Active 3 Mb, Inactive: 1,18 Gb
In 10 minutes, idle: Free memory: 8,4 Mb, Wired: 468,1 Mb, Active 2,36 Gb, Inactive: 1,17 Gb
Somehow all the free memory leaks to the active one, without me doing anything. I tried launching several programs to see if the memory will get adjusted accordingly, but it does not. Time machine is stopped. Tried disk repair is CMD+R mode, fixed permissions, killed most of the user processes - no success.
I've installed Lion on top of Snow Leopard a month ago and didnt feel any problems so far... Now my MacBook pro 2,4 GHz is completely useless, finally, after 6 years of seamless work :( Thanks, Lion
Any ideas how to deal with it?
    Thanks,

I do not see anything like this on my system which would lead me to believe you may have a defective installation. So, my suggestion:
Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • 13" Retina Macbook Pro 2014 slight trackpad lag + keyboard lag too

I am noticing a slight lag when i move the trackpad.
It only occurs, sometimes, if i let go of the trackpad for approx. 5 seconds or more, and i have to say that it is a very brief (<0.5 seconds) lag, but very annoying over time when you start noticing it.
This apply for all trackpad action so even 2 fingers scroll or just 1 finger mouse move.
This also apply for keyboard as well. After you don't touch keyboard for some short period of time like 5 sec or more than after you press some key there is small like <0.5 seconds delay after i see the char. I have no idea why this happen because on MBP 15" 2014 i own there are none of these issues.
This is VERY VERY annoying especially if you own a Macbook Pro 15" where everything is working well.
Fail on you APPLE on this one...

    Hello,
I just bought a new Macbook Pro OSX Yosemite this week. Retina, 15 inch, Mid 2014. 2.2 GHz i7. 16GB RAM. 256 GB HD. I've been noticing a lag when I use the trackpad and the bluetooth mighty mouse. It seems to happen completely randomly. If I don't use my computer for a long time and then start to use it again it sometimes lags for a second and then works, and then lags again, and on and on...
Sometimes the lags are 2 seconds long and sometimes they're less than 1 second long. It seems my mouse, trackpad AND keyboard are all affected by this problem. I'm pretty upset, seeing as how I paid over 2 grand for this computer. Does anybody have ANY idea at all what is causing this AND what I can do about it?? I'm not a huge computer guy.
The problem doesn't seem big enough to get a whole new computer. It seems like an Apple technician could fix this in 2 seconds. Wouldn't you agree? Please help. Thanks

  • Hdcp problems on retina macbook pro 2014

Hello, with the new Mac Book Pro Retina (latest software updates) I can't play within iTunes any videos / previews. "Missing HCDP support of the display" stated, but no external monitor attached.
    Any solutions?

Okay, it gets weirder. If I streamed the TV episode before downloading it, it plays, however, if I download it, I can neither stream it or play it from the file.
The selected movie won’t play on your display.
This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection).

  • I want to transfer Logic Express 9 from my old macbook to my new retina macbook pro???

When I try and transfer Logic Express 9 from my old macbook running mt lion to my retina macbook pro running mt. lion I get the message "You can't use this version of the applicaiton "Logic Express" with this version of OSX."
The version of Logic express is 9.1.8. Both mac's are running 10.8.2. I don't get it.
Can anyone help me on this?

    Hi
    How did you "transfer" Express?
It might be better to re-install Express 9 from scratch, though without an Optical drive you would need to:
    a) Use an external Optical drive
    b) Make a disk image of the installer on another computer and then copy that image to the rMBP
    c) Make use of Apple's Remote Disk

  • MacBook pro late 2011 i7 8GB 750GB MAC OSX Lion freezes on wake up

    Hi,
My MacBook pro late 2011 i7 8GB 750GB MAC OSX Lion (up to date) 1 week old freezes on wake up.
Plugged on power or not, same issues.
    No apps running.
When it goes to sleep itself i wake it up it freezes for few seconds
When i put it to sleep mode same issue.
    With the lid same issue...
I already try setting up the sleep mode from 3 to 0 with terminal command it didn't work.
Can it be an hardware issue ?
    Any ideas ?

Dear TheSmokeMonster, Dear all MacBook pro 13'' late 2011 users,
    Here is the update.
As TheSmokeMonster mentionned (above) they asked me to reinstall MAC OSX Lion by shutting down the computer and holding cmd + R while switching it off. Then you choose the language and you are good to go for a looooonngg 4GB download (it took me 8hours yeah chinese ADSL :-/ )
Lion reinstalled itself automatically and restarted. - it did not solve the issue.
I called Apple Care again and we try to run the hardware diagnostic by restarting the computer and holding D. FYI do not try it as this command does not work on the new version of macbook pro.
Here is the intersting part! As the Apple Care already did everything they could to help me. We booked an appointment the my local Apple Store in Shanghai (a real one )
The Genius remake again the SMC and PRAM reset - same issues and he also tried to boot Lion from his own external hard drive - Same issues. So we started to think that it was a Hardware problem.
We tried another MBP 13'' late 2011 (last hardware update) in the shop to see if it works properly and it DOESN'T!
Yeah you heard me. I have been trying more than 10 MBP 13'' (2.4Ghz 4GB and 2.8Ghz 4GB) put them asleep and they all freeze on wake up!! it also does it on Mac book air 13'' it seems to be a global issue on all the new 13'' machines. A compatibility problem between Lion and the new hardware architecture of the 13'' ? just my guess.
Anyway FYI this issue doesn't occur on MBP 15 and 17"
I was just amazed by this global problem so was the genuis. We could not find any solutions cause even a replacement one will have the same problem. They told me i could change for a 15" but i had to go back to the Apple shop where i bought it which is 2000Kms away not really convenient So i file the cas and i took my MBP 13'' back with me.
They will contact me later for further explanation.
    To be continued.

  • Mountain lion on iMac compatible with retina Macbook pro?

My late 2012 13" Retina Macbook pro running Mountain lion 10.8.4 is suddenly paralysingly slow due to kernel_task hogging my CPU. I have not been able to find a definite solution to this problem yet, but I am guessing some software installed is causing the sudden meltdown.
I ran Apple Hardware test 3 times.. the first time it spotted an error "4SNS....ICOR..." but after cleaning out the vents on my mac, it hasn't shown up again.
Now I read online that a clean fresh install of Mountain Lion may solve the kernel_task problem... however my rMBP is so slow, that I cant even manage to open the app store on it.
    So my questions are:
    1) Is there any solution to fixing the kernel_task hyperactivity on the rMBP that I am not aware of?  (Tried rebooting, resetting SMC, PRAM multiple times, repairing disk, repairing disk permissions -- all to no avail - the problem recurs after a short period of normalcy and then goes back to becoming unusable)
    2) I have a 2011 iMac... Can i download mountain lion on it via the app store, make a bootable disk from it, and use it to perform a fresh reinstall of mountain lion on my 2013 rMBP? Can OSX downloaded on app store of iMac be used on a totally different device like rMBP? Should I be worried about device incompatibility, drivers going out of whack, etc?  Or is the mountain lion installer a global software and can figure out the device make on its own and install itself correctly?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Oogamous

    1. That's a known problem in portable Macs. There's a fix but you have to follow the steps carefully > http://www.rdoxenham.com/?p=259 Make a backup of your files before doing this.
    2. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display was launched with a special OS X version, but as the most recent OS X version is 10.8.4, you can download OS X Mountain Lion from the iMac and use it in the MacBook Pro without any problem. Just download OS X Mountain Lion in the iMac and use Lion Diskmaker to burn it to a USB drive or DVD > http://liondiskmaker.com

  • Mountain Lion FREE update for MacBook Pro Retina 2012

Hello, looking for an honest support.. I bought my Macbook Pro Retina 2012 on this 15 July 2012 from Apple's authorised premium reseller of Bangladesh (Executive Machines Ltd.).. I just knew & saw yesterday that Mountain Lion was published & it is FREE for the buyers who bought the new qualifying machine (as my one is!).. so I just followed the apple.com eligible link and provided my details (address of my current residence which happens to be "Bangladesh", country, city & my valid macbook pro "serial number"..).. after that received a claim reference number mentioning that the FREE redeem code will be emailed to me after checking my claim has been validated.. but after carefully going through that eligibility link I noticed that claims are not eligible for outside US/ Canada.. and now I've provided my serial number & it has been used! and moreover, I did not recieve any email notification from Apple even after 24+ hours!.. what should I do now? .. do I need to buy this Mountain Lion once again even after I am eligible for the FREE update as Apple mentioned before or I just lost my free redeem opportunity as I bought it from outside US (event though from Apple's authorised reseller!!)?? please need honest suggestion..

As you can only get OS X from Internet Recovery, you can't get the OS X Mountain Lion stored on the HDD and make a bootable volume with it. Also, you can't install the OS X version you have on your other Mac because the hardware of this MacBook Pro with Retina display isn't compatible with that OS X version.
In your case, reinstall OS X and see what happens. If you can't reinstall OS X, take the computer to an Apple Store because you can't do anything with that MacBook Pro now
