Mac OSX  look and feel

Hi, I just wanted to know if there is a pluggable Mac OSX look for Java yet. I can't seem to find one.
Thanks

Hello Lotus,
search the web for a file named macOS.jar. I downloaded it more than a year ago and it works alomst fine on WIN2000. I don't know whether there is an updated version by now. There are two drawbacks on the version I run:
- you cannot use JFormattedTextfields
- once you displayed the MAC-PLAF you cannot switch to other LAFs without getting traces of the MAC-LAF.

  • Hi how to create Mac os look and feel??

    hi
    please tell me how to create Mac os look and feel.
    thx.

    I've heard about a Skin look and feel, but I've never used it. Maybe you should look into that. It would probably be the easiest way to create a custom look and feel, but you won't automatically be able to use Aqua unless you're on a Mac. Sorry.

  • Mac like Look and Feel

    Can I find Look and Feel with Mac Style for Windows? Is it really? I found one, but it is very slow (and has bugs).

    How you seen the same program being run under Win default LookAndFeel and under Mac one. If you happen to do you'll change your attitude :p
    Yes, I've seen both looks and feels.
    If I'm using a Windows box I expect applications to look and behave like Windows applications, and similarly for Mac. A large number of users of each system have no experience with the other and there's plently who, like me, are perfectly familiar with Windows but only partially familiar with Mac interfaces.
    Let's take an example, from the Quaqua L&F:
    http://javootoo.l2fprod.com/plaf/quaqua/quaqua_filechooser_panther.png
    If I had that appear in Windows I'd scream. I'd have to try and remember what the coloured blobs in the title bar mean, I'd have to figure out how that file chooser works (like I do every time I use Gimp with its GTK file chooser that seems totally unfriendly to me). All second nature to Mac users of course, but it just makes life really difficult for Windows users, and probably simply because some stupid software developer somewhere thought that coloured blobs "look way more cool than Windows stuff."
    :o)
    Rule of thumb is that you'd better have a good reason for using anything other than platform look and feel, because if you do so without great care then chances are you're making life a lot harder for your users if you do.

  • Aqua Look and Feel

    Hello everybody,
    can someone show me how to use the Mac Aqua Look and Feel on Windows platform.
    Thanks very much!!!!!

    You can't since it uses calls to native APIs that are available only under Mac OS.

  • Setting the Brushed Metal look and feel for macs using Java.

    Hello,
    I am relatively new to Java and I am new to Mac-specific java stuff. Anyways, when I try to set the look and feel of my classes to the "apple.awt.brushMetalLook" look and feel, I am unable to. It works if I have System.setProperty("apple.awt.brushMetalLook", "true"); written before I create any swing component. This would be fine, except that means that it is impossible to extend any swing component, such as JFrame or JApplet. Is there a way around this?
    Thanks!

  • Bug: Data filter and "Mac OS X" look and feel

    I am running Mac OS X 10.5.5 and SQLDeveloper 1.5.1 (MAIN-5440). I have the "Look and Feel" set to "Mac OS X." When I attempt to use the "Filter" box in the Data tab of a table, the autocomplete of past values continually selects the whole filter after each keypress, making it impossible to type normally. I have to type the filter into TextEdit, then paste it into SQLDeveloper.
    This does not happen in the "Oracle" Look and Feel.

    I'm relatively new to OTN, and don't see any place to view/track this bug, or file new ones. I searched around & couldn't find anything - is there such a place? This bug makes using SQLDeveloper on a Mac a real pain the butt. I tried switching over to Oracle look/feel, but then I get weird errors while using keyboard shortcuts (which deserves to be a bug of its own).
    On a related note, in case anybody's listening, I've recently upgraded from SQLDeveloper 1.2.x to 1.5.x, and the font used by version 1.5.x Mac OS look & feel is really small & hard to read (and very un-Mac-like). The old font (1.2.x) was much easier to read, and I'd recommend switching it back, or making it configurable. (If there's a good place to officially provide this feedback, somebody plz let me know - thx!)

  • HELP !! XP look and feel ...

    how can i make my frame have an XP look and feel ??????
    please help me in details , cause i haven't done this look and feel thing before ??? thanks in advance ..

    You need to change to the windows LnF which is not the default. The
    following code will do it for you. Note that it will only work if your
    using Windows XP.
    * LookAndFeel.java
    public class LookAndFeel {
        public static final String MAC_CLASS = "com.sun.java.swing.plaf.mac.MacLookAndFeel";
        public static final String METAL_CLASS = "javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel";
        public static final String MOTIF_CLASS = "com.sun.java.swing.plaf.motif.MotifLookAndFeel";
        public static final String WINDOWS_CLASS = "com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsLookAndFeel";
        public static final String GTK_CLASS = "com.sun.java.swing.plaf.gtk.GTKLookAndFeel";
        public static final String KUNSTSTOFF_CLASS = "com.incors.plaf.kunststoff.KunststoffLookAndFeel";
        public static boolean updateLookAndFeel(String currentLookAndFeel, java.awt.Component parent) {
         try {
             javax.swing.UIManager.setLookAndFeel(currentLookAndFeel);
                if(parent != null) {
                    javax.swing.SwingUtilities.updateComponentTreeUI(parent);
         } catch(Exception ex) {
             System.out.println(ex);
                return false;
            return true;
    }To get it to work do the following:
        LookAndFeel.updateLookAndFeel(LookAndFeel.WINDOWS_CLASS, this);where this represents your JWindow or JFrame.
    Hope it helps.
    James.

  • Why is my look and feel grey and not aqua blue

    Additional comment: long ago I saw Mac's with friends and the scrollbars were blue.
    On my MacBook however everything is grey.
    Quite different from what is shown on Wikipaedia: AQUA Look And Feel.
    How come?
    ;JOOP!

    I wouldn't suggest you count on Apple returning to colored scroll bars etc. That doesn't seem to be Apple's direction, though with Jonathan Ive taking over the direction of UI for OS X and iOS, that may change. You can express your desire to Apple via their feedback page, if you wish:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

  • Look and Feel

    Salutations,
    I am writing a simple swing program that when the user clicks a button corresponding to a look and feel name ie "Metal" etc. the Look and Feel is Changed, it works great except for one problem, it will not change to the "Metal" look and feel, I believe this to be the default look and feel, but when changed to another, it will not change back. Any suggestions?
    thanks,
    J

    Here's the code from the SwingSet2 Demo:
    // Possible Look & Feels
        private static final String mac      = "com.sun.java.swing.plaf.mac.MacLookAndFeel";
        private static final String metal    = "javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel";
        private static final String motif    = "com.sun.java.swing.plaf.motif.MotifLookAndFeel";
        private static final String windows  = "com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsLookAndFeel";
            try {
                UIManager.setLookAndFeel(currentLookAndFeel);
                SwingUtilities.updateComponentTreeUI(this);
                // where currentLookAndFeel is one of those Strings
            } catch (Exception ex) {
             System.out.println("Failed loading L&F: " + currentLookAndFeel);
             System.out.println(ex);
    // And as an (unexpected) bonus, it's the same as the code I once used:
    static String windowsClassName = "com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsLookAndFeel";
            try
                javax.swing.UIManager.setLookAndFeel(windowsClassName);
                javax.swing.SwingUtilities.updateComponentTreeUI(this);
            catch(Exception e)

    There is a word for this (not that one) - skeuomorph. Wikipedia defines this as 'a derivative object that retains ornamental design cues to a structure that was necessary in the original. Skeuomorphs may be deliberately employed to make the new look comfortably old and familiar'.
    Common examples are found in audio software with pictures of actual knobs that you turn, as here; and the leather-bound tear-off look of calendar and contacts on the iPad is the same principle: the intention is to make it familiar and friendly to people who might otherwise be frightened off by a modern look because they are not used to modern technology. The whole concept and look of the iOS operating system is being brought into use on Macs for the same reason, to encourage non-tech-savvy people not to be frightened of them.
    This is all very well in its way, but in these two particular cases the result is unfortunate, particularly for experienced users, and it really ought to be possible to choose between the looks (as you can with the Mail layouts), even if the skeuomorph is the default.

  • Modifying Quiz look and feel

    This question has likely been asked before, but I did a
    search of the forum and couldn't find a specific posting. My
    company has just purchased me a copy of Captivate 2, so some of it
    is a bit new to me.
    My question is....
    Can the visual components of a quiz slide (such as the button
    style) be modified directly in Captivate 2? I get how to modify the
    player controls, but can't seem to find any files where I can do
    the same to quiz slide components.
    If I can not do this directly in Captivate, would I be able
    to do this without breaking anything, by exporting a project to
    Flash?
    The company I work for would like to customize (think
    "branding") the Captivate generated controls and general look and
    feel of a finished project. This would be so that different, less
    technical developers, could create materials that had the same
    style.
    Any resources anyone can point me toward would be
    appreciated.
    Thank you,
    TPK

  • Get rid of that "blue" look and feel which overrides GTK?

    Since Java 5 when you run on a GTK system (or a windows system if I remember correctly) you get a pale blue look and feel in Swing rather than one which looks like your usual operating system's L&F.
    Can that be turned off? :)
    Cheers,
    Chris

    This is weird. I use getSystemLookAndFeelClassName() to set the LaF. It works on my Mac at home and I get the typical OS X Aqua appearance, but on my Ubuntu Linux system at work I just get the Ocean default LaF you mention.
    I'm guessing Ubuntu have done some irritating things with the package because someone who maintains the java stuff at Ubuntu decided blue looks nice or something. I'll see if I can track this down to a problem with the JRE on my system, rather than my code.
    Thanks for the help :)

  • Windows look and feel instead, in InternalFrameDemo.java

    Hi all, I am learning swing and I am trying to modify the
    InternalFrameDemo.java source from
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/uiswing/examples/components/index.html#InternalFrameDemo
    My idea is to add the line
    JFrame.setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated(true); in the constructor, but it doesn't work
    and I don't understand why.
    Could somebody please help me?
    Kindest regards,
    Lasse
    public InternalFrameDemo() {
    super("InternalFrameDemo");
    //Make the big window be indented 50 pixels from each edge
    //of the screen.
    int inset = 50;
    Dimension screenSize = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getScreenSize();
    setBounds(inset, inset,
    screenSize.width - inset*2,
    screenSize.height - inset*2);
    //FDoesn't work
    JFrame.setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated(true);
    //Set up the GUI.
    desktop = new JDesktopPane(); //a specialized layered pane
    createFrame(); //create first "window"
    setContentPane(desktop);
    setJMenuBar(createMenuBar());
    //Make dragging a little faster but perhaps uglier.
    desktop.setDragMode(JDesktopPane.OUTLINE_DRAG_MODE);
    }

    Uh I think you're mistaken. Whenever in doubt or something doesn't work as expected, check the javadocs. The link to the javadocs can usually be found really easily by typing "java 6 classname". In this case:
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/api/javax/swing/JFrame.html
    If you want to set the Windows look & feel as your thread title suggests, this was not the method you were looking for as the javadocs will tell you. That method controls if a frame is decorated or not (as the name suggests), which it is by default. Setting it to true will not change anything.
    So what then? You type into Google "java swing windows look and feel". Without quotes of course.

    I have download the new verison of the new 'Look And Feel' from
    http://sheikyerbouti.developpez.com/forms-pjc-bean/LAF/sources/v133/LAF_133.zip
    1- I defined a new section in formsweb.cfg named summit in the middle tier (AS 10g Rel2):

    baseHTMLjinitiator=basejpi.htm
    baseHTMLjpi=basejpi.htm

    2- then I put a copy of the file 'forms.css' in the middle tier in the folder :
    apache\apache\htdocs
    so as to be on the path and then modified PM$CSS_FILENAME in all forms to be 'forms.css' instead of 'c:\forms.css' and recompiled.
    3-I put a copy of the file 'laf.jar' in the folder : 'd\Ora_AS\forms\java' in the middle tier and added this path to the classpath environment variable.
    4- I restarted the middle tier and wrote this URL:
    http://test/forms/frmservlet/config=summit
    the customers form opened but with no background images,I added the following to the URL '&form=test_laf_color_scheme.fmx',the form opened with the default color scheme to 'purple',I changed it from a drop down list to orange and all buttons background color degraded to orange.
    My questions:
    1-where are the background images ?
    2- I cannot compile the 'laf.pll' file to 'laf.plx',when I compile I get this error:
    FRm-91507 -internal error
    P.S. I read this thread :
    FRM-91507 when compiling a library with Forms 6i
    and I didn't understand it,where do I change the Forms_Path? in the forms Home release 1 or Forms home release 2?!!!
    3-Is the 'forms.css' file properly located? if not? where do I put it?
    Sorry for the long scenario but I'm really confused?
    Thanks
    Mohammad

    Hello,
    I'm curently out of everything so I cannot answer this one. All I can tell is that images are read from the client machine or jar file. If you want read images from the application server, you need the http:// syntax.

    Does anyone knows how to change the default Caspian look and feel to, for example, Nimbus ?

    I´m using javafx 1.2.

    Canspian is not a look&feel, it's a skin.
