Mac OSX question - not answered in FAQ or sea

Hi there. I did a search for this and looked at the FAQ. Either I didn't search correctly or it hasn't been answered, so here's my question!
I'm running an iBookG4 with Mac OS 0.4.8. Everything is fully updated and current. I love my Mac, but hate iPods.
I had a Creative Zen Microphoto which tragically died during a stupid human trick (read: dodged an SUV while cycling and ended up making out with the ground). This was before I got my Mac.
I'm wondering, does the workaround for the Zen Vision M (iTunes plugin) makes all iTunes files compatible with the Zen?
Thanks!

  • Installed New Internal HD, Mac OSX will not install...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I installed a brand new Hitachi 120Gb drive this morning. Put in Install disk that came with my 12" PB and ran disk utility. i erased the disk and set it up for Extended (Journaling)
It has a mount point of:
/Volumes/Macintosh HD and the S.M.A.R.T status word is not even there.
Anyone know how i rectify this as when i go to instsll the OS it says:
'You cannot install Mac OSX on this volume. You cannot start up with this disk'

    tripoli:
    Try this:
Formatting, Partitioning Zeroing a Hard Disk Drive
Warning! This procedure will destroy all data on your Hard Disk Drive. Be sure you have an up-to-date, tested backup of at least your Users folder and any third party applications you do not want to re-install before attempting this procedure.
Boot from the install CD holding down the "C" key.
    Select language
Go to the Utilities menu (Tiger) Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
Select number of partition in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
(Note: 1 partition is normally better for an internal HDD. External HDDs usually have more than one)
Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
    Select Erase tab
Select the _sub-volume under Manufacturer ID_ (usually Macintosh HD).
Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
Select on Security Options button (Tiger) Options button (Panther & earlier).
Select Zero all data. (This process could take several hours. If you want a quicker method, don't go to Security Options and just click the Erase button.)
    Click OK.

    Quit Disk Utility.
Open installer and begin installation process.
Choose to Customize and deselect Foreign Language Translations and Additional Printer drivers.

  • Mac OSX did not boot (on a Macbook)

Hello. I have what seems to be a serious problem with a MacBook. It just won't start. When I turn the power on, it stays a while in the grey blank screen, the a Folder icon with a question mark on it appears, and flash two or three time.
This MacBook have OS 10.4 installed. I try to boot from my Mac OS 10.5. Which works all the way, but when I take a look in the disk utilities, it says that the partition where OSX is installed is not mounted, and it is impossible to repair the disk.
I read the following support page :
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58042
Then, I tried to reset the RAM as suggested and described here :
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
It didn't worked, the OSX partition still not mounted. There also something else really strange. The computer is not ersponding to any booting command. I cannot hold the option key to choose the booting drive, I can't use cmd+S to acces a terminal windows, I can't press 'C' in order to boot from the CD, and I can't even get my OS 10.5 CD out of the computer ! (I really need it out of there !). The ony responding key are those I use to reset the RAM.
All I wanted to do is to be able to, at least, make a copy of this hard drive to save the data... but I fear the worse. I'm not really use to Mac system, but it looks a lot like a major disk failure
Thanks a lot everyone ! Any help is welcome, my friends is totally freaking out !

Ok, so, I hooked up the broken MacBook to my working MacBook with a Firewire cable. on my MacBook, it first detect the macOSX CD trapped inside the broken one. I eject it and take it back (yéé!). Then, the Windows partition come up, but the Mac partition still not showing up. This really looks bad I presume ?

  • CMIS connector save behavior on Mac OSX question

I've been working on implementing a CMIS compliant server and have a question about the behavior of Adobe Drive when saving files on Mac OSX. When an application saves a file to the network drive, Adobe Drive is sending a request to create a folder named "(A Document Being Saved By ...)" as part of the process. This only occurs on OSX and not on Windows.
Since a lot of the CMIS connector's testing seemed to be against Alfresco, I took at look at how Alfresco Handles the situation. Alfresco seems to work around this annoyance by allowing the folder creation but automatically removes the folder in short order. While I could implement similar behavior, I am trying to avoid as much client specific handling as possible.
Is this folder creation absolutely necessary on Adobe Drive's part?

    Hello,
The folder creation request depends on the specific application. If an document-based application in Mac OS X uses NSDocumentController to operate the document, a temporary folder "(A Document Being Saved by xxx)" will be created, this is the normal document saving process. If the document is saved, the temp folder will be deleted soon by this application. Please see this link: http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/Documents/Articles/ ObjectInteractions.html as reference.
So the folder create request from Adobe Drive is normal for this scenario, and after saving the document into the mounted drive by Adobe Drive, the delete request(deleting this temp folder) will be sent from Adobe Drive. I think Alfresco doesn't provide any workaround for this. For Alfresco server, it just handles the temp folder creation and deleting as the same as the normal folder.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Zhiqiang

  • Mac OSX will not boot, when I log in, it shuts down after grey screen and grey loading bar show up: PLEASE HELP (:

So here is a lowdown on my problem.
I start my mac OSX, I hold down the alt/option key and load my MAC osx drive (which is the only drive available; however, when i do not hold down the alt/option key it will go to a black screen that says "no bootable device, press a key when device inserted").  Continuing, it then goes to my login screen where I have my username, and I can enter my password like usual.  I enter my password, hit the enter button (like I always do), and this is where my problem begins.
After I enter my login and hit enter, the screen goes grey, with a little apple symbol in the middle and a different shade of grey loading bar underneath.  This grey loading bar shows up for about 10 seconds, fills up about 10-20 percent, and then shuts my computer down.
No matter what I do, this process repeats over and over, and heres where the problem gets worse, and this part is VERY IMPORTANT and is the most depressing, stressful part of the process.
NONE of the startup/boot commands work except holding the alt/option key.  I can't hold: Command plus r; command pr  to reset PRAM; shift to enter safe mode.
I really dont know what to do here :/.  I have files that I want on the hard drive, that are pretty important but not critical.  I gave up on wanting the files back but now I want to simply WIPE my computer and re-install a clean version of OSX onto the computer, but I CANNOT GET TO THE REINSTALLER :(.
More information that may be helpful:
I do have a partition on the HDD that I was going to use for Bootcamp, but it does not have anything installed on it (thus causing the "no bootable device" screen to load, and probably causing the boot commands not to work).
My version of Mac OSX is 10.8.4. "MBP 15.4/2.8/16GB/768 flash"
The last time I restarted my computer, my mac OSX RAM was down to 1.75 GB, with nothing open.  Usually when nothing is open the free RAM is around 10-13 GB (I know this because I have the activity monitor always open, and I use my computer a lot).
Again, boot commands will not work, except for holding the alt/option key.
So if anyone can help me fix my problem(s), which are:
1: using boot commands; 2: reinstalling mac OSX; or 3: getting my files,
I would love you forever.  I would really prefer 1 or 2.  Thanks for reading this.

Oh and one more thing, I do not have a disc drive in the mac osx.  The version I have comes without one.
I am very puzzled about what to do right now.

  • IPod OK on windows XP, Mac OSX, but not Vista

Just got a new (refurbished) 5th gen ipod 30G. It syncs fine to my mac OSX laptop. It also syncs fine (after restoring) to my Windows XP laptop.
But when I connect it to my windows Vista (the preferred laptop per the primary user of this iPod) it will mount in the OS and show up as a removable drive (F:) and I can click on the drive and see the default directories.
When I launch iTunes, I wait about 5 minutes then I get an error "iPod found but the name is not recognized. Try disconnecting the iPod and reconnecting" and it never shows up in iTunes.
I did get it to show up once in iTunes, and tried to do a restore, but after the restore ran for a while, it gave an error "iPod could not be updated. Device can not be read from or written to" (error paraphrased) and gave an error code 1437, I think.
I've tried restoring it on each of the OSX and WinXP machines before trying to connect to the Vista machine, but I get the same results each time.
All the messages I can find say that 5th gen iPods should work fine with Windows Vista but mine isn't working...

That sounds odd that one Windows OS is working, but the other is not.  Is there anything in your logic that could change the view states of these controls?  If you'd like, I'd be willing to also take a look.  Feel free to send your project or installer to [email protected] and I'll try on my systems.

  • Mac OSX - Certificate not found

Is SCCM 2012 SP1 supports Mac OS 10.9.1 version? If yes, do I need to install any updates?

    Hi,
FWIK, I think the Mac OS 10.9.1 is supported by SCCM 2012 R2, you'd better to upgrade to SCCM R2 to get supported.
Also, take a look in the blog below. There is a way to upgrade the certificate.

  • Mac OSX Discs Not Installing Drivers

    Hello,
I just installed Windows 7 on my brand new 27" iMac. I had many issues getting it installed, but I finally got it done. Now, I want to install the drivers for boot camp, but when I insert the disc, it thinks I am using a Macbook Air and has two options:
    1. Remote install Mac OSX
    2. DVD or CD Sharing
These two mention Macbook Airs (which I have never used and these discs were from the iMac and are labeled so. I cannot use the volume or eject keys on my keyboard, and cannot scroll with my magic mouse. How can I manually get these driver updates?
    Thanks!

Open the disc manually in "My Computer" or "Computer." From there you should be able to navigate to the installer package. I had some trouble getting the drivers for my new 21.5" iMac as well. You may have to find the package and install as an administrator. Once you have the main Boot Camp software installed, you still may not have all the correct drivers. This is because they drivers were not shipped on that OS X disc. You will need to open Apple Software Update and download the new Boot Camp update that adds compatibility for your Mac with Windows 7.

  • Mac OSX server not supported behind Airport Extreme NAT router?!!

For a customer, I recently installed a new XServe, within a local network with an Airport Extreme (n) with FW 7.4.2. Mac OSX Server manages the router (which has a fixed IP from the ISP). Because the Mac OSX Server runs a DNS server (supporting a local domain), OSX Server reconfigured the Airport Extreme, so that it would forward DNS queries to the server. The server's dns server will forward queries for non-local domains to the ISP's dns servers.
All clients get their IP configuration using DHCP from the router. You can't use the DHCP service of the server, as you can't disable DHCP on the router (in NAT mode).
All clients get the router's IP as the dns server.
    HOWEVER:
The Airport Extreme can't connect to the internal DNS server! *It doesn't seem to be able to route dns requests to the internal network* (verified using nslookup). Any dns queries sent to the router will time out.
Come on, Airport Extreme team.. you can't claim the Airport Extreme to be the ideal router in combination with an OSX server, if this simple and very common setup is not supported! How hard can it be to either:
...*Allow us to disable DHCP on the router* (even when in NAT mode), so we can use the OSX server for this (which will dispatch the correct DNS settings)
...*Allow the router to route DNS queries to the local DNS* (OSX) server (which should be working anyway)

blackbit, Welcome to the discussion area!

    That is true.
This is a user to user discussion area so Apple will not see your suggestions here. Instead go to www.apple.com/feedback/airportextreme.html and send them to Apple.

To echo what Michael has just said we're all just people like yourself trying to help each other out.
I normally display 30 entries per page and if I want to go back to yesterday I have to page back to round about page 30 - that means that many questions are disappearing from the front page. • Mac OSX does not recognise CS6 vs CC!

There is something wrong with the info.plist for Photoshop CC. Mac OSX Mountain Lion at least does not understand they are different applications. You cannot set files to open in CC instead of CS6. The OS believes they are the same application.
    Annoying.

The plists show them as different versions.
More likely is that your MacOS launch services database is corrupted.

  • Question not answered

    hi,
i have a post (sound output problem) that was not answered, i really want to solve this problem, so what should i do next? can i report this problem to apple?.
    thanks.

Hi, Ko be. It would have been helpful if you had posted a link to the question you asked (though strictly speaking, this is not the intended use of this particular forum).
Perhaps there is another forum in which you might ask the same question, or, if the hardware it refers to is still under warranty, you could call Apple Support to see if they can help you.

  • VERY SPECIFIC RAM QUESTION (not answered in prior topics)

I have a very specific RAM question. I've been pouring through the discussions and I see TONS of stuff about the proper way to upgrade RAM. I've done that before without incident, but here is my dilemma:
I'm using the 3.0Ghz, 8-core, MP currently with 8GB of the 667Mhz RAM (8x1GB). The memory is all matched from OWC and I have had no problems.
I just bought 16GB of new RAM from OWC (4x4GB).
I'm going to remove all 8 of the current 1GB DIMM's, and place two of the 4GB DIMM's in slots 1 & 2 on riser A, and two of the 4GB DIMM's in slots 1 & 2 on riser B. That will give me 16GB's in matched pairs on slots 1 & 2 of both riser A and B.
My question is this: Should I install two of my old 1GB DIMM's in slots 3/4 of riser A, and two of the old 1GB DIMM's in slots 3/4 of riser B (for a total of 20GB's)?
I've read that having all 8 slots filled = better performance but I'm not sure the mix of 4GB DIMM's and 1GB DIMM's.
    Any Thoughts?
    Thanks So Much,
    Tom

Optimally you want matched quads in each Riser. However, Bare Feats did some memory benchmarks that you might wish to read regarding memory performance versus different configurations. As for proper installation see the following:
