Hi Barak,
Unlike the previous versions of OSX, Tiger doesn't automatically install Classic . However, it is still available- you just need to load it from the installation disk.

  • MPEG2 codec not working in Final Cut Pro on Mac OSX Tiger

We have been using the File-export-Quicktime Conversion-MPEG2 codec for exporting of files from Final Cut Pro to DVD Studio Pro. On the new mac system that was just bought, the option does not show up.
Currently the system is running Quicktime Pro 7.1.2/ FCP 5 and DVD Studio Pro 4 and it is a new mac system running Mac OSX Tiger.
This problem has happened before on a mac running on an older system, but that was solved by reinstalling FCP and then DVD Studio pro and making sure that the QT Pro was of the latest version.
Right now, we have reinstalled everything the same way, tried installing DVD Studio Pro after, we have also done a full software update of the software over the net.
The codec is still not working, all the macs in the office are supposed to be upgraded to Mac osx tiger, but right now we can't do so, cos then we wouldn't be able to burn any DVDs.
    Please help, thanks.

The installation of QT 7 is the culprit behind the missing MPEG-2 Export Component. But during upgrades, it doesn't always get rid of the file ... probably what happened on your older system when you upgraded to QT 7 or Tiger. Either the new system came with QT 7 preinstalled, therefore not including the Export Component, or if it was upgraded, the upgrade missed it.

  • I have a unwrapped copy of Mac OSX Tiger and i don't know what to do with it

    Hey everyone,
So i don't have a Macpowerbook and i have a copy of mac osx tiger. It was originally my mom's dad's. How ever he has passed away and my mom's mom wants us to sell the osx tiger. What should i do?

If it is a grey colored disc then it is machine specific and only useful to somebody who has the machine model for which it was made.  If it is black then it is a retail install disc.
2 years ago you could have sold a retail disc at a premium price.  Now I am not so sure.  Tiger is now 4th generation behind Lion, Snow Leopard and Leopard.  Apple stopped supporting Tiger years ago and fewer and fewer other software packages are being issued that still run on Tiger.  Firefox stopped supporting Tiger, Flash (used on just about every web site out there) is no longer being updated, etc.  I think the writing is on the wall.  One of my favorite web sites that uses Flash stopped working for me yesterday.
A machine specific disc is really handy for somebody who has that machine and completely useless to anybody who doesn't.
The best thing to do is go on e-bay and see what is actually being paid (not asked) for Tiger, remembering to make sure it matches the copy you have.  If you do decide to sell it, make sure you tell the purchaser exactly which model disc it is.  We've seen many people on here who bought a disc only to find it wouldn't install on their computer.

  • MAC OSx Tiger loses connection info

I am running a newly installed Mac OSx Tiger OS on my G5 and have setup Oracle Calendar to connect to the server. The connection is maintained for as long as I have Oracle Calendar open. When I close it, Oracle Calendar reverts to a "new installation" state forgetting the settings just made. Is this a problem/bug with Oracle Calendar or with Tiger? Is there a work around? This is not a problem with other clients (e.g. Windows XP).

    Hi
This is not happening on my G4 Powerbook with Tiger. I had Oracle Calendar installed before I upgraded -- not sure if that is relevant. I would look in your home directory in Library/Preferences and pull out any Oracle related preferences and start again. Other than that you could try using Disk Utility in /Applications/Utilities to repair permissions. Finallly if thats no good create a new User in System Preferences/Users and login in as that user and install -- if that works then you know there is some problem with your particular user setup.

Please help me find the correct link to download a version that will work on my Mac OSX Tiger 10.4.11. The links from the forums take me to a page that doesn't exist. Help me, I'm desperate.

  • Mac OSX Tiger 10.4.3 discs.

Hi, I bought a set of Mac OSX Tiger 10,4,3 Install Disc 1-4 from a market seller (cheap) including Xcode 2 Disc 1-2, but don't know if the set is complete enough for installation or not. Could you advise? Thanks

    camaway2,
just give it a try. You should have a complete backup before you try to upgrade anyway. If these are really the media exchange CDs then they are full retail versions since there are no hardware specific Tiger CDs anyway. Then follow this procedure: 10.4 Tiger Upgrade: Decision tree+Checklist

  • Going from iPhone 3GS to iPhone 5 and Mac OSX Tiger

    Hello,
I currently have one of the first Intel Mac Book Pro's running OSX Tiger.  I also have a 3GS running ios 4.1 which I'm about to upgrade to the iPhone 5.
What is the best way to back-up/transfer my contacts/txt's/etc from my 3GS to my 5?  I can't run the latest version of iTunes and eventually this year I will upgrade to a new iMac which would solve the problem...but for now I would like to transfer all my data over.
    Thanks,
    Mike

The problem with that is my current iphone is running ios 4.1 and my laptop is running tiger so I don't have icloud.  Without upgrading to snow leopard and then to lion/mountian lion to get icloud is there any other option?

  • Mac OSX Tiger on a Pismo 400mhz

    Hi there,
I am wondering if OSX Tiger can be installed on a Pismo.
Today I wanted to do a test with it, using the installation disks of a friend of mine who has got Tiger too.
It didn't work, the system said that it was not possible to install the software. On the actual CD it was written "For Powerbook 4" or something like that.
I wonder if that CD could only work on a Powerbook 4 or something.
Bear in mind that my Pismo is 400mhz fast and it has 256mb of memory. Looking at the Apple website, my configuration seams to be compatible with Tiger, but I am not too sure since I am a completely newby and I may have missed the meaning of something..
Can anybody there help me? I'd love to understand what is the newest OS that I could possibly install on this Pismo.
    Many thanks.
    Pismo   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   400Mhz PPC

    Gerrit,
Jaguar/10.2 will run fine with 192MB and 10GB HD. Apple recommends 128MB minimum for Jaguar and since your parents will be using the 'book probably for emailing and browsing, it should be fine. If you wish, adding a 512MB memory module in the top slot to replace the 128MB is easy and inexpensive.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/133SO512328/
If you have not done so, update to the latest firmware while booted to 9.x.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75132
After updating, check to make sure you still have 192MB of memory.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60839
If one of your memory modules has been disabled, it can be re-enabled.

Reduce the size of your 10.2 install by NOT installing all the printer drivers and foreign language translators. These are generally unnecessary and you can install them later if you wish. Then just download and install the printer driver for the printer they will be using. As you start the installer, look for a button near the bottom of each window that says 'Custom' or 'Options' (can't recall), then uncheck the two items I mentioned.
Now download the MacOS X 10.2.8 Combo Update and install.
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxupdatecombo10_28.html
After installing 10.2.8, run Repair Disk Permissions from Disk Utility while booted to the HD.
Next, run the Software Update and see what updates your 10.2.8 needs. I choose to download the items separately to my desktop, then install each separately and restarting when required.
You can choose to leave 9.x on the HD or start fresh and erase; I always check the option to Install the MacOS9 HD Driver in Disk Utility on a dual-boot computer. It cannot be installed after erasing with Disk Utility and installing OSX.

  • OSX Tiger / Mac Mini Disk Slowdown

Ok so I have a couple of Mac Mini's one for me and one for the wife. well hers suffers from endless coloured wheels and appears to be waiting on disk i/o to complete. Both systems are exactly the same spec, OSX Tiger is the same 10.4.6. with identical set of updates.
I suspect either a disk problem or perhaps fragmentation, has anyone else seen the same problem ?

You're most welcome. Glad to help!
The "up to 35 seconds" is for the hard drive itself to spin-up from Standby mode. The spin-up time varies somewhat by manufacturer, disk rotational speed (RPM), etc.
You wrote: "Only fly in the ointment is the fact that my mac mini was configured in an identical way and didn't exihbit the problem. I checked the disk firmware versions and they were also identical. Thoughts?"I suspect it depends on how you each of you use your individual Macs:
    • You may be performing activities that are reading or writing to the hard drive before it reaches the inactivity time limit for spin-down.
    • You wife may be performing tasks that require far less disk activity, with more of "the action" taking place in RAM, allowing the hard drive to spin down after ten minutes of inactivity if "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" is checked.

  • My volume isn't recognized when reinstalling Mac OSX Tiger

I am reinstalling mac osx on my mac book black, because I got a folder with a question mark whenever I boot up my computer. When I'm installing the disks there's no volume to install mac osx. What do I need to do?

From the Tiger installer you need to open Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. On the left side, see whether your hard drive shows up. If it doesn't, your hard drive has likely failed and you'll need to purchase another one or take your macbook to a service provider to have it replaced.
If it shows up, you should try to repair it or reformat it, depending on whether you're worried about the data that's on it.

  • Is Fireworks MX2004 compatible with Mac OSX Tiger?

    Hi all,
I guess the title really says everything...
I want to upgrade from OSX Panther to Tiger. Fireworks'
Technotes seem to say (as I understand them) that there were
originally some compatibility problems between MX2004 and Tiger but
these were fixed in a Fireworks update. Is this the case?
Thanks in advance for the help!

  • MAC OSX Tiger iLife Question

I just installed Tiger and so far everything is going great. I just wanted to know if the following applications were/are available to me after I installed Tiger.
    iLife, iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie, GarageBand.
It shows these applications in the manual towards the end of the booklet, but I cannot seem to find them in the applications on my MAC..
I was wondering if anyone could help me because I had iDVD, iphoto when I first got my mac..
    Thanks,

Hey Klaus Thanks for your reply. Oh so my original OSX disks that came with my mac would have the older versions of the iLife, iphoto, idvd, imovie. Now if I were to re-install these applications, would I be able to update them using the updates feature in mac? And if I dont have the original operating system disk, could I just download them from the apple website?
    Thanks again,

  • Re-installing Mac OSX Tiger

I am trying to get to the root of some kernel panics that I am experiencing. In dont think I have a heating, hardware, RAM, or logic board issue but I am not sure. Ran the applecare repair CD hardware test for 3 hours and it could not find a problem. I am about to do the same with Tech Tools Pro and will see if it finds a problem. But then again it may be a software issue as it just started to show up last week after I installed Missing Sync 2.03 and have since uninstalled this app.
I am thinking about re-installing Tiger and wondered if this would cause more problems as I am using the latest Tiger version and going back to 10.4.0 might cause even more problems. What do you say?
    John

When you actually use the entire OS X and applications, the computer will
multi-task and more resources are used; the system configuration will be
more stressed and any issues with RAM or some failing corrupted software
on the hard disk drive or damaged files are more likely to express themselves.
Sub-standard RAM can fail under a load; and in a computer with one chip
on the logic board you cannot replace, sometimes that could be a problem.
To troubleshoot the hardware verses software issues, takes time & patience.
SafeBoot mode disables several system functions and limits many things. Wi-fi
is unlikely to be enabled so long as the computer is running in SafeBoot mode.
With a load of processor activity, and the hard drive working to support Virtual
Memory to running apps and the OS itself, the computer will get hotter; also
the graphics chip would get a little warmer, too, when some programs run.
That test suite may not be adequate, to tell what may be weak under load.
Depending on the computer build and hardware configuration, some aspects
of the device may or may not work when started in Safe Boot mode; and it
may be that some of this may change some, too, depending on OS X build.

There are single-user and terminal startup strategies that may allow
different kinds of testing; but some of the better information regarding
what is going on in the computer may be found in Console utility logs
and also the software logs inside System Profiler.
Did you have an original install disc software packet with the Apple Hardware
Test on it, to run also? Some of those tests do different things. The pros have
other software they have invested in, so a quality shop may find a flaw sooner.
Not really sure which direction you could take for a certainty in this matter.
Kernel Panics can involve troubleshooting hardware & software.
    Good luck & happy computing!
