Mac osx update combined cannot save 10.6.8

I keep getting this message when I try to update using "Software Update".  Any ideas?  I'm new to OSX. Thanks

Try this instead: Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo.
This is a direct download from Apple. If you still have a problem then it could be permissions related. In any event do the following before you install any OS update:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Can not install Mac OSX Update Combo10.4.5 PPC

I have a clean installation of Tiger on a Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics) with Sonnet 1 ghz processor upgrade, updated to 10.4.3 by running Software Update. No other updates available at this time.
So I downloaded MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.5PPC.dmg and it stops at "Select a Destination."
"You cannot install Mac OSX Update Combined (Power PC) on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
I must have installed this update previously, to get to 10.4.6, to install Adobe CS3 which REQUIRES 10.4.6.
Now I can't figure out how I got this update installed - sorry if this has been posted previously.
This isn't my main machine, thankfully, but I use it as a spare in the studio to transfer images to.
Can anyone help me get this OS updated to 10.4.6?
I don't have the original processor, so re-installing it isn't an option.
    Thanks.

No, I wouldn't ignore them, I think we really have more messed up than just this, and if any of these steps fix it, we'll likely need new downloads.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.
May even need to do an Archive and Install if you have room on the HD, but saves all your files and gives a new OS...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.
If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for an Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.

I have a MacBook Pro running mac osx 10.8, Screen saver keeps reverting to national geographic photos.

Just found this solution on another website. I tried it and it works. No more polar bears and Savannahs!
Apparently if you put it in the folder called "Desktop Pictures" it will work.
So, copy whatever folder of pictures you would like to use as your screensaver and then go to:
    Macintosh HD>Library > Desktop Pictures
Paste your folder into this folder called "Desktop Pictures".
You may have to enter the administrator code (the password you use to open your mac usually).
Then, go back to System Preferences, go to Desktop and Screensaver, click on the Screensaver tab on the top, go to the drop down menu beside "Source" (under the picture) and click on "Choose Folder". Navigate to the Macintosh HD>Library>Desktop Pictures and then click on the folder you just pasted in there. Click "Choose" and you're all set.

  • Mac OSX 10.6 cannot be installed on this computer

Hi everybody - this is my first post on here so please be gentle!
    My kit:
    13" MBP, Intel core 2 duo @ 2.26GHz. 2MB DDR3 RAM.
    Current OS 10.5.8
I've been getting the "Mac OSX 10.6 cannot be installed on this computer" error message repeatedly whenever I try to upgrade to SnowLeopard.
Having spent a lot of time scouring these forums, I've tried pretty much every trick I spotted:
Formatted the disk and partitioned using GUID.
Resized the volume to be 130MB smaller than the partition size.
Tried booting from a USB image of SnowLeopard.
All of the above just take me back to the error message (which is now burned into my brain!!).
I do have a full TimeMachine backup which has been very handy with all of this experimentation.
Now here's the thing - my copy of 10.6.4 is a 'grey' label one. It is for the 13-inch MacBook Pro (which I have), but wasn't issued specifically for my machine. It's labelled "(c) 2010" which suggests it was made for a more modern MBP as my machine is from 2009.
From other threads, some people say that the disks are 'hardware locked' to specific machines. Others say that the more modern installation disks aren't so fussy. Do you think this could be the source of the problem? Having bought these genuine 10.6.4 disks, I'd hate to shell-out for the retail version of SnowLeopard only to find it hits me with the same dreaded error message!
Many thanks for any light you can shed on this for me.

Actually I bought the disk off eBay, but it is definitely genuine and since it was for the 13" MacBook Pro (which I have) I thought (having read the caveats about disks being hardware specific) it ought to be useable.
It's definitely a genuine set as it came with the full "Apple" packaging, booklet, wallet and even the two white Apple-logo stickers that they stick in there for some bizarre reason. Yes, I did notice (having received the disks) that there's a statement on them regarding them not being for resale, but the seller didn't happen to mention that on his auction (yeah - go figure!).
At the time of purchase I thought they were specifically for my hardware. Seeing the "2010" mark on the disks was a bit of a 'raised-eyebrow' moment, but I just find it hard to believe that the discs are being so 'touchy' given that they are for the correct model MBP, just separated by one year.
In fact, as I touched-on in my original post, some contributors to this discussion forum went as far as to say that you could even install cross-platform with the discs for more-recent hardware. I know that not everybody gets these things right when discussing stuff, but I'm just surprised that there's such a wide range of opinions regarding this.
If there are no further ideas, I'll have to put it down to experience and go buy the retail version. If anyone has any further advice or experiences of this issue, positive or negative, I'd still be glad to hear from them though.
Thanks all for the input so far.

    Hi Everyone,
It is a macbook not ibook, sorry my mistake.
I did not know it would be breaking or violating anything, if so I apologise!!
I will obviously need to buy the software specifically for my macbook is the answer, thank you for all your answers.
If i buy the software do I still have to ask for macbook or is the retail version for any mac machine?
Sorry - I wasn't trying to be harsh. The software on the restore discs is licensed (or should I say licenced) for use on one computer. I think a lot of people might dispose of or sell them after their machines expire or they upgrade to a newer version of OSX.
    This gets really complicated.
There are currently 6 different iterations (all the machines at the same issue date should use the same install version) of the polycarbonate shell MacBook. Each one would require a different set of install discs. Several of these came out before Leopard (10.5) was on the market and the install discs have Tiger (10.4.X). If your machine was of a vintage before Leopard was on the market, you can install using any retail version of Leopard. I have a copy of Leopard with the original 10.5.0 version. The current retail version of Leopard is 10.5.6. This should install on any MacBook which came standard with any version before 10.5.6.
    Are you confused enough now?
If you could identify which iternation of MacBook you have, I think people here could give you a better idea of what your options are for installation of the operating system. You could put your old drive back in, run System Profiler and find out which MacBook version you have. Mine says MacBook 3,1. My guess is that any retail version of Leopard should work since you identified your OS as 10.4.11.

  • Bridge will not open after Mac OSX update

Hi, I updated to Mac OSX 10.9.5 yesterday, and now Bridge CC will not open.  What should I do?

I'm not familiar with Lr, not having used it since trying it and thoroughly hating it when I tried when it first came out, but…  I'm not quite clear what you mean by "open in Bridge".
Bridge doesn't "open" anything, so I suspect you mean open in Adobe Camera Raw hosted by Bridge.  Bridge is just a file browser, and as such it doesn't open, edit, manipulate or save anything; it just hands the file(s) to the appropriate application, whether that be Photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw (ACR), Adobe Illustrator, InDesign or even something like MS Word.
Perhaps you need to re-establish the file association at the OS X level.  What happens when you bypass Lr altogether and just double-click on a raw file in the Finder?

  • IPhone not updating due to lack of iTunes and Mac OSX update

    Hello,
I have an iPhone 3GS running software version 4.1 and am needing to update it to the next version. When I click on the 'update' button when the phone is connected to my MacBook, a window pops up that says 'This version of iTunes (9.2.1) is the current version'. I realize that iTunes needs to be updated as well, but in order to do that I need a different version of Mac OSX. I have an older MacBook and am currently running Mac OSX 10.4.11
My question is: is the only way to update my iPhone at this point to purchase the OSX Leopard 10.5? I seem to be caught in a dilemna of not having the most up-to-date software on my computer, but I wish it didn't effect my iPhone performance.
Any information would be helpful. Thank you!

You can upgrade the MacBook directly to Snow Leopard for $29.00

I don't know the first word about MySQL, but when porting

Does MySQL install its own signal handlers using 'sigaction'?
If so (and this was the problem with my proogram), I found
the following note useful. That problem went away after
I added the SA_64REGSET flag in the call to sigaction.
This is obviously a work-around as sigaction should operate
properly when called from 64-bit programs, but be that
    as it may...

  • After Mountain Lion update I cannot save iMail photos to iPhoto anymore, how do I solve this?

I just did the update for Mountain Lion and now I cannot save attached photos directly from an e-mail into my iPhoto.  I was able to do it before without any problems.  Is there a fix for this.

As of 2012-10-11, with all the available fixes installed (10.8.2 + supplemental update and iPhoto 9.4.1), this problem is still present. I have confirmed it on three different machines, all of which had all of the latest updates installed.
Hopefully Apple will address this soon enough — I have no problem working around this issue myself, but my mother found it much more challenging.

  • Kernel Panic Error after last MAC OSX update

    Hi all,
    My first post here.
Last week, after install the last update of MAC OSX on my intel IMac (last of 2009), when the computer was restarting, a kernel error screen appears...
I've launched the safe mode, and the computer starts fine and I've execute the disk utility to repair HDD and rights. I've done the same initializing from the installation DVD, but the kernel error appears again...
I leave only the usb apple keyboard plugged, and I don't understand why this error still happening, and of course why it occurs after a MAC OSX standard update (no new hardware or software installed in the las month).
I'm little desperate with this issue

Hi Hugo, & a warm welcome to the forums!
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport in 10.4 & below, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
    /private/var/run/StartupItems
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
It does look like the com.metakine.handsoff.driver, whatever that's about.

  • HT4993 Since I did the ios update yesterdayI cannot save photos (ie from facebook) they will not save in my camera roll)

Since I updated yesterday to the iOS6 day I cannot save photos (ie from Facebook) to my photos.. any help from anyone would be great.

I've noticed that with the iOS update, you're not asked if you want to allow the app to access photos or something. I said do not allow on Facebook thinking that it would upload pictures without my permission. Really this allows you to save photos to your camera roll. Now I have to figure out how to undo this....
You've been able to save photos from Facebook since at least the last update. You just touch the picture for 2-3 seconds and a menu will pop up asking if you want to save it/make profile picture/cancel/etc.

  • Spotify is a problem for the Mac OSX update Yosemite 10.10

    Hello,
When i downloaded the new update for the Mac: OSX Yosemite 10.10 - my macbook could'nt be shut down anymore.
I've called the Apple helpdesk and we both tried to figure out what was causing this problem. After some tests it seemed that Spotify was the problem of all this. (Something that is called Spotify manager? was failing with the start up of my Mac).
So i hope this problem can be fixed, because i had to delete Spotify for that my Macbook could work normally again.
And it's ashame, because i can't use Spotify anymore now.
I hope that this will be fixed, so i can enjoy music again.

Same here, tried to install first time on 10.10.4, gets a black screen and can't quit app. Looks like this app is not compatible with OSX 10.10 That's awesome, how do you expect Mac users to stick with your company when there is an alternative for the same price. Even more so when your app does not even run properly on OSX updates. Get it fixed, fast or I'm leaving. I'm a premium user, not a freebee.

  • Mac Calendar (Mountain Lion) cannot save to Exchange Server

    Hi All,
My boss use iMac Calendar (Mac OS 7.8) to sync with Exchange Server. When he saves the modify to Exchange server, There following message appear :
Calendar can't save the event "xxxxxxx" to the Exchange server. The account "Exchange Server" currently can't be modified. to discard your changes and continue using the version of your calendars that's on the server. click Revert to Server.
This message is randomly. However, iPhone, iPad and MS Outlook without that issue.
    Could anyone help to solve?
    thanks

Started experiencing this same issue with new Macs on Moutain Lion connecting to MicroSoft Exchange Server.
    ERROR Says:
Calendar can't save the event "event name here" to the Exchange server.
The account "describes calendar name" currently can't be modified. to discard your changes and continue using the version of your calendars that's on the server. click Revert to Server.
Then gives the buttons "Revert to Server" "Try Again" or "Ignore"
!!! Somehow it seems like this is a known issue, otherwise WHY would Apple have given us those 3 buttons to click on?
Needless to say this is causing productivity problems as it disrupts the very busy schedule of many users. Apple needs to provide some workaround for this.
