Mac/PC compatibility

I copied a site created on a Mac to a PC laptop so I could
work on it in other locations. In doing so, the templates I created
on the Mac ceased to function as templates on the PC. When I edit a
template on the PC and save the changes, it does not update the
other pages built from the template. Any ideas or suggestions?
George Rogers

There would be no problem doing this exchange of files
between Mac and PC.
While on the PC did you refresh the site cache (SITE |
Advanced > Recreate
Site Cache)?
Here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes
not propagating
from Template to child -
1. Rename the Templates folder
2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in
the site other
than root level
3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
4. Make changes to an editable region of the template (which
will not
propagate)
5. Assume that template changes can be uploaded to the server
without also
uploading the changed local files
6. Corrupt the site cache so that the link between template
and child page
is broken
7, Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the
template,
adding page specific content, and resaving the template with
an *.html
extension rather that its *.dwt extension. (you can tell if
this is the case
by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything
like <!--
TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done)
The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced >
Recreate Site
Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing
them. Have you
done any of those?

  • Mac / Adobe Compatibility Issues with Reader X1 & Acrobat X1

    I'm using Acrobat X1  11.0.10 and Reader 11.0.10 with Mac OS X ( 10.8.5).
In Reader, when I click the "show next page" down arrow, it takes around 5 seconds to jump to the next page. (scrolling to the next page via the scroll bar works fine).
In Acrobat, when I use the text edit tools, it can take up to 10 seconds before I can edit a word (remove or add a letter).Oftentimes, Acrobat will highlight the whole paragraph rather than just the word I select. (I think this is due to the lag time.) When I backspace to remove a word, nothing happens ... for several seconds. Then letters begin disappearing.
I reverted from Mavericks and Yosemite back to Lion (or Mountain Lion - I forget what they called 10.8.5) in the hopes of fixing this issue. When I say reverted back. I did a full install. Wiped the hard drive, loaded 10.8.5 and started this Mac as if it were new.
Is there a version of Reader and Acrobat that work with Mac OS X ( 10.8.5)?

    Hi,
Acrobat 11 is compatible with MAC 10.8.5. So, there are no compatibility issues.
Please let me know if this happens with every PDF or some specific one?
If specific, then please tell me what is the size of your PDF file.
You might also try repairing Acrobat from the Help menu.

  • Windows to Mac Software Compatibility

Finally converted #1 son to go from PC to Mac. Going to bless him with a 20" 2.66GHz iMac.
Question arises as to compatibility of a stock software called "Metastock" which he currently runs on Windows. Metastock does not offer a Mac version.
Anyone know if we use "Parallels", "Fussion" or "Bootcamp" with Windows XP as a viable route to take so he can continue with "Metastock".
    Thanks in advance.

You can run in any of the virtual machine environments as long as it doesn't need 3D.
Boot Camp means running natively and setting up a partition. A VM (try Sun's VirtualBox 2.1, which is free) may be better (Sun definitely has done more in 6 months than Fusion or Parallels has done in ovr two years I think).

  • Mac/Windows Compatibility for Word-Help!

I just recently got Office for my Mac. I created a Word document and emailed it to a business partner. He has Windows and when he opened it, everything (including jpg.'s) were out of place and everything was skewed. He thinks he's running 2003. Any ideas on how I can create my documents so that he is able to open them?

There is no assurance of 100% correctness between different versions of msWord. If you are using Word 2004, in the File--SaveAs dialog, Click on the Compatibility Report and run it (in the report window, you can select "Word 2003 for Windows" since your colleague is using that. That will give you some hints on what to change.
You can try saving (file -- saveAs) in the RTF format - and try the Word 4-6 RTF and other formats as well). Good luck!

  • Mac Java Compatibility with Firefox 4

I am running Mac OS, with the new firefox 4 I am not getting access to my CCTV server anymore, while the older firefox runs smoothly, the version 4 firefox keeps on asking to install the plugins "Java", but Mac has its own java. Maybe it need to be compatible with the Mac Java plugins, and another thing is the version 4 of Firefox runs slower than the previous version.

i love channel hoppin on fox tv and not compatable with the new socalled better ff4 please sort it out thanks

  • Win/Mac font compatibility

I posted this at the bottom of a thread I started a while back about font substitution, but I guess it was too far
down the heap to be noticeable. So here it is again.
I had problems with two fonts being substituted in a packaged file sent to a Mac user. I have realised that while most
of the fonts used in the document are OpenType, the two that were substituted were Type 1s. So I have bought OpenType
versions which I am hoping the Mac will be able to use and so not cause the substitution problem.
But if I am right about the cause of the problem and my solution, I can't square that with my use of Dingbats in the
file, my Dingbats being a Type 1 but no substition having taken place on the Mac.
Is it possible that when the file was opened on the Mac there was some sort of automatic substitution for a Mac version
    of Dingbats?
    k

I have run tests that further complicate the issue.
I packaged a file and got the Mac user to make a PDF.
The original Type 1 Helvetica Bold, that had been substituted when a file using it was opened before, is now rendering
correctly. The new OpenType Helvetica Bold is being replaced.
When I look at the properties of the PDF, what I am assuming is the OpenType Helvetica shows as a TrueType font, while
other OpenType fonts specifically MyriadPro are described as Type 1.
Two versions of Garamond were included a Type 1 and an OpenType to check compatibility and as expected the Type 1
version was substituted while the OpenType version rendered correctly. But in the fonts list for the PDF, only one
Garamond is listed, described as a Type 1.
I made the test file on CS3, but I see the Mac user has made the PDF on CS4.
    Any clues?
    k

  • How do I know if my mac is compatable for airport express?

Stupid question I know but I have a minimac osx 10.3.9 when checking
under system profile this is the info I get: hardware: airport card: no information found.
I take it this means I cannot use airport express

Not sure about your question... The AirPort Express (AX) is a 802.11b/g wireless router.
...I have a minimac osx 10.3.9 when checking
under system profile this is the info I get: hardware: airport card: no information found.
I take it this means I cannot use airport express
That indicates that your Mac mini does not have a wireless card installed. Therefore you would not be able to make a wireless link to an AirPort Express (AX).
However... you could connect your Mac mini via Ethernet to a LAN port on a wireless router. Then configure an AX to join the wireless network as a wireless client. The Mac mini would then be able to stream music through the wireless router to the AX.

  • External hard drives and mac/windows compatibility - Need Help pls

I have an external Harddiskdrive with 200 GB formatted in HFS+ with my Mac.
    And here's my Problem:
A friend of me would have some of the MP3's on this HDD, but he is a PC user with Windows XP. So he could not see the drive in his Workspace.
Is there a way without buy MacDrive or something like that?
Or is there a App like MacDrive as Freeware or OpenSource???
What is with the "DOS" - format (FAT32)? Can I use this without an afraid of losing my Data on this Drive???

"am getting this error message on my Mac:
    SMART status not supported"
This is not an error. SMART status reports of hard drives are not passed through the chipsets of external enclosures.
"What is this FAT program and how do I make it work? "
FAT is not a program. IT's the format in which the drive is fomatted.
In the future, please start a new question about your issues, so as to not "thread-jack" and existing discussion. YOu'll recieve more repsonses if do so as well, rather than burying your question deep inside someone elses topic/issues.

  • Mac Pro Compatibility With Older SATA Drives And DVI Connectors

I soon plan to replace my 5 year old G5 with a new Mac Pro and need two questions answered so that I will know what options i have for the transfer of older data and apps. The Apple web site for the Mac Pro includes the following paragraph which gives me reason for concern:
Your Mac Pro includes four drive bays, allowing you to configure it with
up to 8 terabytes of storage using 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s drives, up
to 2 terabytes of storage using high-performance solid-state drives, or
any combination of each type of drive. Configure each drive bay
    separately.
Does the phrase "using 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s drives" mean that the Mac Pro will ONLY work with 3Gb/s drives or that it performs best with 3Gb/s drives?
I currently have two internal SATA 250/300 GB Maxtors (Maxtor 7Y250M0 and Maxtor 6B300S0... both are 7200 RPM but I don't know the data transfer speed). Ideally I would get a Mac Pro with a single 1 TB drive, move one or both of these older SATA drives to the new computer, one temporarily and the other permanently in order to transfer data and Apps to the new machine. If this is not possible then the new machine will need to wait until after I get a new larger FW external drive to use as a data transfer medium (I had planned to do that anyhow). I need to do some advance planning for this so I need to know what to expect in advance. I noticed this possible wording ambiguity on Apple's description of the Mac Pro long ago, but now I need to find out the answer for sure. Apple, you need to be more specific with your words.
Can anybody answer this question for me?
My second question regards display connectors. Does the standard (no bucks added) display card include a standard DVI connector or only the newer Mini-DVI connectors. I think I see a standard DVI connector in the low res picture of the back of the Mac Pro but am unsure. My 5 year old Apple display bit the dust a year ago and I had to replace it with an HP 2009m display (mumble grumble) which does use a standard DVI connector. A new Apple display is too rich for my blood so I plan to continue using the HP display for now and need to find out if I will need a display adapter to go with it.
Many thanks to anyone who can answer these questions authoritatively.
For anyone who asks why I still run 10.3.9 on my G5, I can only answer response speed. New OS versions always act like a lead anchor on a machine with their added overhead and Tiger really does feel like a ball and chain tied to me... it just does not reaspond as fast as I do. I look forward to the speed of a new machine.

Does the phrase "using 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s drives" mean that the Mac Pro will ONLY work with 3Gb/s drives or that it performs best with 3Gb/s drives?
Any commercial sATA drive will do just fine. 7200 RPM is not a requirement.
WD "Green" drives have caused user complaints about "long delay until ready" when installed inside a Mac Pro, but are fine for backups.
You are making the leap from PowerPC to Intel Mac. Eventually, you should re-initialize your old drives to GUID partition table for best responsiveness.
Migrating your System will not be possible. Use the pre-installed System or Install a new System on a GUID-partitioned drive with the release DVD in the box.
Migrating your Applications is a Bad Idea. You should plan on re-installing all your third-party Applications from their release discs.

  • Bridge and  Elements / Mac Version Compatability

On a Mac I have Bridge which came with a CS3 suite, and on my pc I have Elements 8
If I were to get Bridge on the pc:
Would it work/imoprt/replace PSE 8 Organizer?
Could I move the inages and catalogs from my Mac to the PC and import/integrate those?
    Thanks!

bridge does not use catologs as elements does.
elements for me is a million times quicker at organising and finding pictures.
but if that catalog developes an error then it can be a pain to fix.
Bridge, updates its image database evertime its run, which is why its so so so slow....
yes it has a thumbnail database of the images but not an overal 'catalog' file.
lightroom works similar to elements and again is much better than bridge, but so long as your database in lightroom functions.
thats kind of why i personally use bridge, though i hate it as its basically so full of bugs and as said slow.
but you can drag and drop new folders without too much of a problem.
    in answer to your question.
i dont think you can just load bridge.
either way it will not effect your elements catalog, there treated as two seperate programs.
as said on your mac using bridge there is no catalog
so just copy your image directorys other to your PC.
and the next time you run elements it will find the images.
you will lose keyword data, though i think you can export keywords and then import them into elements.

  • LED monitor and a 2007 mac pro compatibility

My mac monitor is busted, I need to get a new one, though this time it won't be an apple one.  I have a 2007 mac pro, what I need to know is a LED monitor compatible with my mac pro.
    For instance, this one,
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005MHMFJA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid =A3P5ROKL5A1OLE
I need a monitor with lots of USB ports though am not sure about compatibilit, when it comes to LED.
    Thanks

That one will work.  You will need a DVI cable.

  • Mac mini compatibility with 1600x900 Samsung monitor?

I have just purchased a Mac mini Z0FW-2GB (2GHZ 2GB DDR3 RAM/120GB drive) and would like to pair it up with a Samsung 2033SW 20-inch with a resolution of 1600x900
Does anyone know if this monitor / resolution will work natively with Mac mini? Does the necessary connector ship with the Mac mini?
    Thanks.

A Mac can automatically configure itself for any resolution on-the-fly based on whatever EDID (display driver data) it receives from the monitor it is connected to. That is, for example, why all Macs, even older ones, are successfully running monitors like the new 2048 x 1152 ones that have recently come into the market. Even though older Macs may pre-date the existence of that new and never previously existing format by several years, they are still able to read the EDID and self-configure their graphics output into any resolution. For this reason, I doubt you will have any trouble with a 1600 x 900 monitor.
And, yes, everything you will need comes with the Mac mini (Mini DVI to DVI Adapter) or the monitor (DVI cable), so you won't need to buy anything extra.

  • IPhone 5 and Mac OS compatibility

I'm thinking of switching from Android to the new iPhone 5 since I'm all Mac at home.
My Mac is running on 10.5.8.  What benefits or problem might I expect?
Will my iCal (3.0.8), iTunes (10.6.3), Address Book (4.1.2), etc. sync correctly?
Appreciate any advise, haven't posted for a while.

An iPhone 5 will not sync with your Mac. You would need 10.6.8 & iTunes 10.7.

  • Office for Mac X compatibility with Lion

    Hi guys,
My company is equipped with Office for Mac X (came out in 2002, fairly obsolete I know), and we're trying to know whether we'll be able to use the software on the new OS Lion (until now, we've been able to use it no matter what new OS we have been using)
    Any clues?
    Thanks

Ask Mircosoft seeing as how they are the ones that produce it?
IMHO the chances are probably slim at best.
I always love companies that are so cheap as to not upgrade their software until forced to do it. Then they whine and moan about the expense and difficulty to do it a decade ot so to late.

  • Mac Mini Compatibility

I am considering buying a used Mac Mini off of ebay because they are so reasonable. All I'm want it for is to run my home automation. I have 3 other Macs and don't want them to be tied up. I'm not familiar with the Mac Mini at all. Are there any issues with using it with today's monitors, wi-fi, software, etc? I know this question is pretty vague, but now I'm looking to try and understand better what I don't know to ask the right questions. Thanks in advance!!!
    Greg

I'd avoid a PPC G4 Mini for several reasons:
    1) They can't run the latest OSX
    2) Likely will have lots of "miles" on the components
    3) Limited RAM capacity
    4) Only 2 USB ports
    5) Some early models didn't have Wifi
Generally a Core2Duo Intel model will be a better choice than a CoreDuo or CoreSingle. RAM can be up'd to 3 or 4 Gig on the Core2Duos, vs only 2 Gig on the earlier Intel chips.
Mini's can be a chore to open and work on the components. But it is doable if you are patient and careful. I recommend the guides at www.ifixit.com since they are clear and provide necessary cautions at just the right places.
Personally, I wouldn't buy a *bay Mini. I've seen so many people come to this forum trying to fix mysterious problems of their second-hand Mini -- generally one that the previous owner couldn't fix either and had dumped on *bay.
Apple's official refurbs from the Apple online store have more value IMHO. They look brand new and have full warranties.
(BTW, if you are looking for a computer for home automation, I'd personally choose a MacBook with similar specs to an Intel Mini: the notebook computer's battery means that you will have power backup without having to use a UPS.)
