Mac Photoshop CS6 crash with NVIDIA GTX470 graphics card
Hi there,
I don't know whether this is an Adobe bug or NVIDIA driver problem.
I've recently upgraded my Mac Pro's graphics card from an Asus 256MB 8400GS to a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470. Everything seems to work fine in CS6 suite apart from a weird anomaly where, dragging the 'Depth of Field' slider on a Photoshop 3D layer, Photoshop crashes. All of the other 3D controls appear to work fine, just the 'Depth of Field' causes the crash.
I've tried disabling 'Open CL' and using the lowest settings, but I still get the crash. When I reinstalled the less powerful Asus card, I didn't get a crash and could use the slider fine. Would this be an NVIDIA driver issue, or Adobe bug with NVIDIA GTX cards?
Thanks in advance :-)
Thanks for both replies. I've sent an email to EVGA (who make the card) and I'll see what they say. Seeing as PS worked with my previous card, I guess you're right about it being a driver issue.

Photoshop CS6 crashes with nVidia OpenGL Error Code:3
CS6 13.0.1.1 64 bit is crashing from time to time with the nVidia OpenGL Error Code:3.
It most often occurs when waking the system if it entered sleep mode while Photoshop was running but I also get it without entering sleep mode and it doesn't happen every time which makes troubleshooting a problem. I have to go in and kill the Photoshop.exe process as it remains running and prevents relaunching the program. Fortunately in most cases I can recover the file due to the autosave feature but that just depends on when the problem happens.
I have installed the latest nVidia GeForce 8800 drivers without resoltuion.
I'd been using CS6 for some time before the crashes started and have rebuilt the system since they started. Before rebuilding the system I mainly used 32 bit but am now using 64 bit exclusively. It may have also started after a nVidia update that was carried in Windows 7 updates. I have changed out the graphcis card with anohter 8800 so am sure it's a software issue.
If anyone has run in to this, I could really use some help resolving it.
Thanks,
Darvin Atkeson
LiquidMoonlight.comYou're several updates behind -- please go install the Photoshop updates.
But it looks like the error might be in a driver (or something that jumps into unknown code) - so you might want to update your video card driver from the GPU maker's website. And make sure that any third party plugins you have installed are up to date. -

Does the fan on Macbooks with Nvidia Geforce graphic cards run less often?
I have a Macbook Core Du0 1.83ghz running 10.6.3. Each time I watch a video on youtube or watching Flash or other multimedia animations, my fan run super fast.
Is it the same with the new Macbook with the Nvidia Geforce graphic card?
Does the fan on Macbooks with Nvidia Geforce graphic cards run less often?Watching videos taxes the GPU and CPU. That's why the fan runs faster - to cool the computer. When you aren't doing much the fan slows down. This is true of all the laptops regardless of which GPU is involved.
Since you have the first generation MB model, it runs hotter than later models that incorporated some changes to the cooling system making the fan run faster during idle. You can accomplish a similar result using the third-party fan control software, SMCFanControl - VersionTracker or MacUpdate. It can be used to increase the fan's idle speed to 2000 RPM. This won't make the fan run any slower when the computer heats up. -
Photoshop CS6 crashing since Yosemite-States "Graphics Error"
Ever since I upgraded to Yosemite, my Photoshop CS6 has crashed my computer about 50% of the time.
Specs:
MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)
Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
RAM: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
Running Photoshop CS6 (Master Collection)That sounds a lot like one of the driver bugs Apple introduced in MacOS 10.10.2.
Apple is aware of the problem, and working on a solution.
Unfortunately there is now way for Adobe to work around this particular OS bug. -

I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it.
I have tried to go ( as I saw one person on you tube do ) --> Right click computer --> click on properites --> advanced system settings --> settings ( under performance section ) --> Data execution prevention --> Turn on DEP for all programs except the programs listes below. --> when I try to add photoshop in there, it wont allow me to. It says It needs to be turned on.
Ive tried to research why it's crashing, but at the moment I cant see where or how to fix it.
Really stuck, any help will be awesome.
Thanks

Photoshop CS6 running extremely slow after graphics card switch
My old graphics card died (a evga 8800 Ultra Superclocked 756MB 384 bit), so I replaced it with a (XFX HD-455X-ZAFR Radeon HD 4550 1GB 64-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 ). I knew this was a less capable card but from reading other forums it seemed that GPU performance was not as big of an issue in Photoshop and the 4550 was a supported card by Photoshop. However, I was previously able to batch open about 15 (ish) photos at a time to work on in Photoshop. Now if I open more than 1 everything is VERY slow and even that 1 doesn't open as fast. Bigger photos appear blurry (but when I zoom in they are not) many filters are slower. Very annoying. Nothing else has changed on my computer, just the graphics card. Here are my specs (I know I need more RAM and have been considering an upgrade there but am not sure if I need to ditch my current video card as well)
Asustek p5e3 motherboard
Core 2 extreme qx9650 (quad core at 3.0 ghz)
4 GB of DDR3 1333mhz ram
(3) 500 GB 7200RPM hard drives
Radeon HD 4550 1GB 64-bit DDR2
500 Watt Power SupplyI don't mean to be critical, but why would you upgrade to an outdated card like the 4550? The 4000-series isn't even listed under the cards Photoshop is tested with any more.
Tested video cards for Photoshop CC and CC 2014
That said, a problem that can happen with a video card switch is that drivers get left in the system from the old one.
Maybe it would be a good start in diagnosing this for you go to into the Help - System Info menu, copy the data in the whole first section, and post it here.

ThinkStation S10 problem with Nvidia GTS450 Graphics Card
Hi,
I have recently purchased this Thinkstation and decided that I wanted to change the graphics card as I will mostly be using it for media (ie DVD and Bluray on my LCD TV).
I purchased a Nvidia GT 440 originally but could not get anything to display through it and recieved 3 beeps (1 long and 2 short). I confirmed with the company I bought it from that it should be compatible, and had it tested by them to check the card was not faulty.
So I sent that back for a refund and bought a Nvidia GTS 450 thinking that as it takes separate power rather than through the motherboard maybe if it was an issue with power it might work but again got the 3 beeps and no display.
Both cards I tried also at the same time as the Quadro FX370 but still got no display even though the fans were turning.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Solved!
Go to Solution.First and foremost, the GTS450 is not a supported card. GeForce cards are not supported in Workstation class systems. This isn't just a Lenovo statement, but also the same response you'll get from Nvidia as well.
That being said, you're likely running into a ROM space issue in BIOS. With a known working card, try going into setup and disabling features such as PXE boot and the 2nd ethernet (assuming you're not using either of these). I know on the 20 series (non- Eseries) we made some BIOS optimizations that would sometimes allow cards like this to at least make it through POST successfully if you free up space by disabling unused features. Not sure if this same optimization made it into the S10/D10 series BIOS or not, but it's worth a shot. -
Photoshop CS4 Issue with NVIDIA 8800 Video Card?
I have an Mac Pro Intel 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Xeon with 6GB RAM running OS X 10.5.5 and an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT driving two monitors.
I just installed Adobe Photoshop CS4 fresh from a factory CD.
When I perform a Distort -> Lens Correction or do a Free Transform to rotate an image an arbitrary amount, and then follow that with a resize (tried 133% and 166%), the image ends up with a pattern of gray plaid overlaid -- especially visible in the darkest shadows. The pattern appears only on the rotated layers of an image.
This pattern persists if I quit and restart Photoshop, BUT -- there's no pattern visible if I open the same image in Photoshop CS3. It only appears in CS4.
This is easy to reproduce -- I just tried it with an image I created in Photoshop at 5x7" at 240dpi and filled with solid black.
I dropped a Bug Report to Adobe, and they wrote back suggesting "This is most likely an issue with your video card driver."
Anybody else out there having this issue? Anyone with an identical setup want to test this?

Transform Tool - Photoshop CS6 crashing on Mac
Is any one having trouble with the Transform Tool in Photoshop CS6 crashing when trying to resize on Mac?
I've got Photoshop CS6 Extended with software version: 13.0.6
Mac Software Version: Yosemite 10.10.2
Any help would be appreciated. What is your setup like? How much installed RAM, how much available hard disk space? Separate drive for Photoshop scratch?
Have you already tried trashing your Photoshop preferences yet and letting the application create new ones for you? Have you Repaired Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility? If not, do both at once.
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
NEW Video! Julieanne Kost created a video that takes you through two ways of resetting your Photoshop preferences. The manual preference file removal method is between 0:00 - 5:05. The keyboard shortcut method is between 5:05 - 8:18. The video is located here.
Mac OS
Important: Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If you require access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.

BOILERPLATE TEXT:
Note that this is boilerplate text.
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
A screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too,
etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster, who is not a Windows user).

I've installed the latest AMD catalyst driver, and still crashes occur.
Thanks,
SagiHello,
I realize this is over a year old post but as it comes second in search engine with keywords "atio6axx.dll crash" I wanted to answer my solution to this.
I was having same problem with Photoshop CS6 but with Windows 8.1. You can guess by .dll name that problem is indeed with ATI/AMD and drivers. In my case, I was using Microsoft version of graphics driver since AMD has not published Win 8.1 64bit version drivers. I believe this is the reason of crash. I know that OP has installed AMD Catalyst but it really easy to not notice that it installed everything else except the display drivers.
Solution 1
- Go to Edit -> Preferences -> Performance. Untick "Use Graphics Processor".
Solution 2
With this you can actually use GPU support. I know this is not ideal but I have not encountered any problems with this solution yet. Everything is working fine.
- Close Photoshop.
- Go ahead and download BETA version of AMD drivers for your GPU. (Win 8, 64bit)
- Open extractor/installer and let it extract files (default: C:\AMD)
- After extraction, AMD installer should open. Close it.
- Press Windows button + Pause and open Device manager.
- Expand Display adapters and doubleclick your device.
- Go to Driver tab and click Update Driver.
- Click Browse my computer for driver software -> Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer -> Have a disk...
- Browse to folder where you extracted file and navigate to AMD\AMD_Catalyst_13.4_Legacy_Beta_Vista_Win7_Win8\Packages\Drivers\Display\W86A_INF
- Pick "C8156445" (Make sure its C8 and not C7) from the list and press OK. Choose your GPU and press install. You screen will flick few times and you will hear plug in and plug out sounds. Give it a minute.
- Done. No need for a restart, photoshop should work now. -
Persistent Photoshop CS6 crashes
We've been seeing Photoshop CS6 crashes anywhere from once a week to more than once a day for weeks now. I've looked into suggestions for fixing the problem and have gone to the trouble of deleting Photoshop completely and reinstalling to the trouble of wiping out the entire main drive and reinstalling the OS and the few apps we use, and most recently installing a 250GB SSD HD dedicated to being the scratch disk for Photoshop.
Our normal use for Photoshop on this machine is taking large scans (often of several hundred megabytes) and cropping and color correction for art reproduction output.
I have several crash reports, but looking through the Exception Type and Codes it changes from one time to the next.
The Mac specs include the following:
